Wednesday, August 20, 2008 (8/20/2008 11:51:00 PM) - Al Weeks walked three times and scored three runs.--JS He's the best leadoff hitter the Crew has had since Molitor, and while I'm the first to say he has warts, the guy simply is an outstanding baserunner. The only players on the current team that is half the baserunner Rickie is are Cameron, who does it with guile, and has lost a half-step; and Hart, who is speedy but seems to be much more of a risk taker. It puzzles me why I'm seemingly the only person that realizes that while his numbers are down slightly in '08 from his career, he's like a 4-4 game away from his norms: 2008----.335/.380 career--.350/.402 Sadly, casual fans do not notice this, and sadly, they still use BA, though I have no clue why. Rickie's BABIP (BA on balls in play) is remarkably low, considering how many hard hit balls he has and his great speed, which should result in IF hits), so in truth, most of his "troubles" is just bad fortune. Heck, look at the names under him on that list...Jeff Francouer, who is supposedly "struggling", Jason Kendall, and so on. It's a who's who of guys hitting lower than they should be. Although, look where he is on this list...Rickie works the count very nicely, even when he's not putting up other numbers. 8/20/2008 11:51:00 PM |
