I was just reading that a fan said the Brewers should offer Gagne arbitration, and if he gets too high of a salary, just release him.
Can they do that, or is this a person who just doesn't get it?
Greg
Kind of. If Gagne were to get $8M in arby, the Crew can release him before approximately March 15th and owe him only 1/6th of that amount. However, I do not see the Brewers risking $1M+ on a lower arby judgement when there are many similar relievers on the market with no strings attached.

Whatever strikes me as
interesting, and serious Milwaukee Brewers thoughts. If you are a believer
in respecting OBP, throwing strikes, and keeping the ball in the park,
you may have found the place you've been searching for. I don't
believe in paying a no hit/good field SS $7 million per year (Jack Wilson, I'm talking about you). I don't think
it's a good idea to "play for a run" early in the game. Build up your
minor league system, and watch success follow.
