Friday, January 09, 2009 (1/09/2009 02:18:00 PM) - Al Adam wrote to inform me of Redding to the Mets for $2.5Mish. He asked if I felt he was worth that...heck, I think he's worth twice that, especially for a single year. I would have happily given him 1y/$4.5-5M. He doesn't have much upside, but he's a solid arm who should give you 175 innings of 4.50-4.75 ERA...that has plenty of value. This might be the impetus of signings for some other pitchers as well...if Tim got $2.5M, and Braden Looper is asking for $9M, it would seem Looper is way too high, for example. A pure innings-eater has set the lower end, and a solid #2 like Lowe will probably end up with $12-14M per...everyone else should settle in there somewhere. UPDATE: Adam with a follow-up that says Redding was a Mets' fan growing up...that makes you think he may have signed for less with them. The market will have to work that out, I guess. 1/09/2009 02:18:00 PM |
