I wonder if Gamel will work in the LF/RF spots with Ed Sedar while he is up as well. If he can play a passable, Adam Dunn like corner OF, it could well be Escobar is the reserve 2B/SS, and Gamel is the reserve 1B/3B/LF/RF.
I doubt very much this is a permanent move, but there's no doubt Gamel on the bench makes this a better team (though it may retard his development a bit, not playing every day). He might well be brought up to DH in June, and then for good in August at some point, assuming everyone stays healthy.
Remember, Prince came up to DH and stayed with the team a bit longer, as they eased his transition somewhat. Gamel is said to be a bit of a free spirit, and this might be meant to both strengthen the bench and to allow him to see how the team prepares itself and is professional on and off the field.
UPDATE: Nelson has been taken off the 40 man before, so he can become a FA if he wishes, as he is out of options. I don't see him having much value, as a LH 1B/LF with a career 800 OPS at AAA...almost every team has a similar player. His "build" alone will make many teams shy away from him, as they will look at him solely as a 1B.

Whatever strikes me as
interesting, and serious Milwaukee Brewers thoughts. If you are a believer
in respecting OBP, throwing strikes, and keeping the ball in the park,
you may have found the place you've been searching for. I believe in low taxes, small government, and am not afraid to be labeled patriotic.
