Alabama/Auburn is why cable will be successful, at least until live sports and the channels that carry them make deals with Roku and other streaming devices.

As good as it gets.

I may be missing something here, but why is everyone so sure Alabama won't be ranked as one of the top teams and still play for the national championship?

9 of 12 Big Ten teams should be bowling this season...Penn State is being punished for sins in the late 90's, when their student athletes were still in single digits (the NCAA is the king of poorly thought out punishments), while Indiana has won every game in which their opponent will not be going to a bowl...but have only played five of those teams, having scheduled Missouri and Navy as nonconference games.

More importantly, neither Obama or Clinton have answered the obvious questions, even pretended they care, and fought every attempt to get at the truth.

The difference is, Josh Romney actually believes in something.

This chart is worth a million words.

1. Just coincidence, I'm sure.

2. Note those W years...the worst since the Great Depression, we were told...don't look bad at all, do they? Especially since the left now claims "full employment" is right around 95%...or 5% unemployment.

The irony is, the W years weren't bad at all, and were not nearly as bad as the Carter years, never mind the Depression. It's just math, and, not surprisingly, just lies.

You'd lie too if your truth looked like the Obama years.

Heh. The only thing she accomplished was Benghazi, which was so successful, no one will talk about it.

Well, they brought it on themselves. They've allowed the left to get anyway with anything and everything, and let it go unreported...remember John Edwards and his long affair that they ignored, and even scolded reporters for trying to report the facts (the LA Times issued a memo saying they would not report on the private lives of politicians...I'm sure they would have done the same with Palin...meanwhile, the New York Times ran a years old, completely unfounded report that McCain was involved with a woman he had flown on a plane with).

Diamondbacks not only infatuated with "grit," they do not want any player associated with PED's.

I certaionly have no problem with that, but eventually, one has to think ARI will be very limited when looking to improve certain positions, if they eliminate any PED players and those known to have "issues" in the past, such as supposedly not hustling, or supposedly taking longer than necessary to rehab or return from injury. To be honest, that's why Willie Bloomquist, a decent utility guy mind you, was often starting for them.

Talent is talent. Doug tends to avoid players known to be a distraction, the Dennis Rodman types, as well. Still, KRod had domestic issues, and Yo had a DUI. Would you rather have choir boys, or would you rather win?

with Rodgers--5-2, average score, 30-23
w/o Rodgers--0-4-1, average score, 16-29

While they may not have a top defense, they didn't before either. No one noticed because Rodgers scored a ton of points. Don't forget, some of those six extra points a game have been given up while the defense was on the bench.

As I said today, good thing ARod is signed long term, as he's shown he's worth 6-7 wins a least over a QB's that can be best described as "filler."

Just a note, had the Packers scored 30 points a contest in each of the past five weeks, they'd be 9-3. Just sayin'.

The Rambling wife just called to see if I saw any good deals...they are heading out in the Twin Cities...Wal Mart, Target, Michaels, and JCPenney. Stunningly cheap prices on clothing, especially for the Rambling son. Old Navy's entire store is 50% off. I'll probably go there tomorrow, along with Menards.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.
Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best. - George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation, 1789

First of all, since he mentioned God, we'll have to scrub that out of the history books, as to not offend anyone.

Secondly...why Thursday? I assume it was because the USA was a agricultural society in 1789, and Sunday was the traditional day to "take it easy." Thursday gave you a couple days to catch up before Sunday.

Today, I'm sure they'd make it Saturday or Sunday. Of course, they're too busy not building web sites, covering up scandals, and telling fibs to bother with such things.

KFC saves the day for an American in China on Thanksgiving.

By the way, how do I know 99% of those who claim to be bothered by MSG are fictional, or in their heads? Because KFC is loaded with it. The "11 herbs and spices" is a nice tale, and at one time, may have been true. But today, if you take a piece of chicken to a lab and have it tested, they will find six things:

Salt, pepper, flour, oil (what it was fried in), chicken, and MSG.

And that's why it's so good.

Almost everything we know about Thanksgiving is false.

It's similar to the civil rights movement, which the left fought every inch of the way. History has been rewritten because the truth isn't nearly as interesting, and in the case of the 60's, very damning.

A quick thanks to all the people who are working this holiday. While many have commented on the fact it's a shame retailers are open today, they wouldn't be if no one shopped.

Mostly though, thank you to the police officers and firefighters, those in the medical profession, as well as those who work in convenience stores, movie theaters, and in some parts of WI, the road crews who keep many traveling safely.

Pizza Hut manager let go after refusing to open store on Thanksgiving.

I'm sure he's one of many who decided to find other employment after such a decision. He doesn't seem like he's looking for publicity, so good luck to him.

Sure enough, I got an email today telling me about specials Pizza Hut is having tomorrow. Back ion the old retail days, when it was just me and the Rambling wife, we started a tradition that on Thanksgiving, we'd just take it travel, but we'd order pizza and go to a movie. We enjoyed it immensely, but when the Rambling son showed up, we switched back to going to family.

The Rambling son has been gone hunting since last Friday, and today, the Rambling wife left too. Tomorrow, they'll go to the Twin Cities for dinner, and I guess the plan is for the wife to stay in MN and shop Friday, while the son will probably go back to his grandparents, though I guess that's up to him. I made the decision years ago that I wasn't going to make the Rambling dog go to a kennel anymore.

Not sure what I would do if we no longer had an elderly cocker spaniel, driving three plus hours for a meal doesn't sound like fun, nor does spending several days away from home and feeling out of place, as I'm not much of a shopper, and I don't hunt.

Of course, my nieces and nephews do love me, because they think I'm hilarious. My goodness though, even the Rambling son gets tired of watching G rated movies when he's there. And besides, where would I nap?

Of course, if Ryan said nasty things about me, I'd still have him over to ogle his fiancee (she's a model you know), without a doubt.

EDIT: Let it be known, I'm all for scantily clad. I'm just honest enough to admit it, and would not lie under oath either.

If it were me, I'd be all for adding most any business downtown, as, to be blunt, that area is, at best, in need of some fresh ideas and investments.

Of course, I understand why the left despises the tea party, as tax and spend folks rarely get along with fiscal conservatives, especially when this administration has almost doubled the debt in five years of entitlements and handouts, with no end in sight.

That only makes sense if you are a grandparent, I guess.

I copied and pasted a post from Thanksgiving 2007, with a couple extra thoughts....

Dr. Schullman's Thanksgiving story. By far the most requested link in Ramblings' history, someone e-mails for this several times a year.

Bobby Warns' tribute page...we should all be very thankful that we have a military full of men and women who are willing to take on evil and kill or be killed. Regardless of how many times I link to it (it's on the sidebar too, mind you), someone always writes to say they watched it for the first time and how well it is done. If you wish, there is a donation area on there for a trust fund for Bobby's daughter, who was born after he gave his life to protect ours. I promise you, no other gift this holiday season will go to a better cause.

Ben Stein wrote this nearly 5 years ago, and it's just as true today, as we celebrate Thanksgiving, a true American holiday.

Allow me the first of many thank yous for the United States' military, many of which will spend the holiday far from home and with a sense their commander in chief has no respect for them at all (denying that will only lead me to the facts, which are not on your side, so please, shut up). Set an extra plate at the table and when someone asks, tell them that's for those who did not make it home this year...or maybe, never will.

Just called Charter and added the sports tier for the month, as several Badgers Basketball games are on lesser known channels, such as CBS Sports and ESPNU.

Cable takes a lot of knocks, but you can call and order a channel (even HBO) for a day or weekend and only pay X/30th's of the monthly fee...that's as good a deal as one can imagine.

I even get the Tennis Network. I'd watch that all the time if I was willing to pay for it, but I can't just add that channel for like $1/month, I have to add the entire sports tier for $10. That's like 20 channels I'd watch 2 of an hour or two a week. I think they have both Davis Cup and Fed Cup. Funny, one of the added channels is...The Fishing Channel, which I didn't even know existed.

Maybe I'll tune in later...some guy will be baiting his hook!

With Obama, almost his entire life story is a lie, a fabrication, or a gray area.

Of course, the old media's refusal to bring up this plethora of examples of his dishonesty (the fibs involving Bill Ayers, convicted terrorist, are both legendary and obvious) make his lies about health care seem almost surprising.

These constant lies are why he's never had to actually tell us he believes in government running much of the private sector, because the free market is overrated and too hard to understand.

White men least racist?

1. I would have happily dated a woman of any race back when I was single. Lisa Turtle of Saved by the Bell was a particular favorite of mine.

2. I must admit, I do see very few black women with white men, especially when compared to black men and white women.

3. I worked with an Asian American guy last year, who said over and over that in his experience, blacks were far more racist than others, followed by Asians. He's also the one who agreed with me that in the future, racism will be a thing of the past, as almost everyone will be various shades of brown.

4. Back in college, I dated a woman I worked with off and on for a year plus. After we had split up for the final time, it made it through the grapevine that she was dating a black fella. This was twenty years ago, so a few people did not think a whole lot of it (I was told, I guess they avoided talking about it to me). The one guy who would talk to me about it asked me one day if I had heard this, and I said the same thing I would say today...that I wished her the best and had no concern about who she dated. I did add that I did find it somewhat touching that she had to go outside her race (and the vast majority of men in Eau Claire) to find someone who matched up to me.:)

McCann is very good, of course, but is unlikely to be in 4-5 years, and though they have the DH as a fallback, guaranteeing $18M per to a 33/34 year old, who is already showing signs of regression? Had to call Charter because I could not get logged in. Did not know password Rambling wife picked out. Guy gave me my own special Charter email account that can only be used for online viewing, that's connected to the family Charter account. Could not use my password of choice, because Charter says it's a "pattern"...had to take a character off. For example, it won't take have to make it Jimmyab. Somehow, in Charter's world, less makes it better.

Had to go through a sitcom moment, it asked what I wanted to do, so I said "reset email on Charter account" and the voice recognition software said, "Did you say server settings?"

Badenhop to Red Sox for young pitcher.

I assume Burke was going to be nontendered anyway. He's a quality, albeit generic middle reliever which small market teams struggle to pay $2M+ like he'll get in arby. He seemed to give up a lot of cheap hits, which I suppose is common for guys who pitch to contact and do not miss a lot of bats.

Good luck to him.

He is at the valley of his value, though a smart GM would swoop in right about now, and it sounds like some have.

One thing we'll never know if the Crew signs Hart or pick up another 1B is is they asked him about playing there. He was a very weak 3B, but most of his issues were throwing related.  As he ages and slows down, it seems like a natural fit for him.

I recall reading years ago a political strategist that said whenever he had a district he considered "almost impossible" to win, he'd tell the party to recruit an attractive female. They didn't win often, but they always seemed to do far better than expected.

Fielder for Kinsler?

Ian's deal is superb in comparison, and he plays a far more demanding position on the defensive spectrum. Obviously, TEX is going to get more back than Prince, if such a deal goes down.

EDIT: Done deal. Huge win for the Tigers, for getting out of $100M guaranteed. This might be the first sign of desperation from the Rangers, who have been solid for so long, appear to be "going for broke" and worrying about later...later.

This might free up Moreland for MIL if they are unable to sign Hart.

Congrats to Orlando on being a MLS expansion team.

Milwaukee isn't ever going to pony up to build a stadium for soccer, so this is a nonissue for us WI residents...unless Bill Gates or someone with his wealth decides to make the Milwaukee area his home and uses the soccer team as an expensive hobby, we'll never have to think about it. It allows me to have Sporting KC as my MLS team and Newcastle United as my EPL team, without being accused of lacking loyalty.

I'm a big fan of soccer just because normal size people can be a solid player, as well as the fact women play an enjoyable version of the sport (as they do golf and tennis). It also is, as they say, the beautiful game. As an American, I do wish they would make the goal bigger, as I do with hockey, because I just think a 7-4 game would be more fun for the casuals (like me).

I have said this before, but I have no problem with hunting...for the most part, everyone either hunts or just pays someone else to kill stuff for them.

I will say this...hunters seem to enjoy themselves a lot more than the anti hunters on the left...who only seem to enjoy one thing...taking freedoms, squashing them with their smug, know it all attitude, and then proudly taking the reduced freedom world they've created and telling the rubes, "There, I saved you from the evils of yourself and your decisions. You're welcome, even though you're too dumb to appreciate it."

As I often say, I can usually decide what side of an issue to be on based solely on the people who agree and disagree. I'm proud to stand with the hunters who provide meat for the table (and donate lots of it to the needy, something the left hates...because as we all know, only the government is allowed to help anyone), reducing auto accidents and insurance rates for all, and heaven forbid, acting on their right to own a gun...the nerve of them.

I'm wondering if being a Packers' fan means you lose a part of your brain. I'm reading "fans" say their defense is horrible and has to take most of the blame...they gave up 20 points, and the offense scored 13 (and had a net of +6).

The problem is obvious...they are beat up and are playing a QB who is not in the top 100...that's quite a fall off from the top 5 guy they usually send out there. They chose not to have a decent backup last season, and it worked out...not so much in '13. I have often said I think the 2nd string QB is probably somewhere in the top 15 most important players on a team...ignoring it is just asking to lose games when the starter invariably goes down.

The irony is, the Vikings have 3 better QB's than the Packers do without Rodgers, the Bears have 2 better, and the Lions have 3. Tolzein is probably doing just about as well as any undrafted QB without any experience in the NFL can do. Let's not pretend that makes him worthy of playing time.

I've said it before, but college football's overtime is so many times better than the NFL's, it is almost impossible to believe the NFL has not copied it.

MLB should look into a similar method to end extra inning games quicker as well. Having the leadoff man go to 2B beginning in the 12th inning is a quick and painless method of ending those devastating to the bullpen 15+ inning affairs. It would be so popular, many would want to continue it even in the playoffs, although I would disagree.

Oprah fails to understand that the free market and capitalism made her successful and wealthy beyond anyone's wildest dreams, and yet she pushes for entitlements and "spreading the wealth," which has failed throughout history, every time it has ever been tried.

You know, I'm sure there are racists out there, but I haven't heard the "n word" spoken (except by blacks who insist on keeping the word alive) in 20 years. No business is even going to have mild success promoting unqualified whites over any minority.

The odd thing is, this subset keeps promoting a failed entitlement society...poverty rates are identical to what they were when LBJ declared a "war on poverty" 50 years ago, and they have thrown $15T at the problem. It doesn't work. It will never work. They keep insisting on trying to prove history is a fluke. Facts is facts.

{As Ronald Reagan brilliantly put it, "They declared war on poverty, and poverty won."}

What we have is a complete failure of the entitlement state...Detroit is bankrupt, IL and CA will be soon. The only idea they have is to double down on the failed ideas. It's ECON101, but they insist they know better. By the end of this presidential term, the debt of the last eight years will be equal (or more) to that of the first 233 which we fought two world wars, explored space, and created a nation in which the average "poor" person has an apartment or house, a car (or two), dishwasher, AC, cable/satellite TV, and a video game system.

In their quest to build a utopia, they failed to notice we already have one.

Shut up and allow people to have success. Poverty is not solved by sending a check out the 3rd of each month...if it was, we'd have no poverty and the streets would be paved with gold.

It isn't racism that Obama lied to the American people for five years. Obamacare remains 100% unfunded, and just like $1T stimulus, is a colossal failure, before it even begins. They spent $1B on a website that not only doesn't work, but that three nerds put together in their spare time for pennies.

It's not racism, it's a lack of leadership and common sense. And yes, crying wolf about racism when it does not exist lessens any real racism that should be reported and dealt with.

One thing I cannot figure out with the new law is if the coverage is still the same, why are the premiums going up at such an exponential rate?  $350/month has got to be > 33% increase in insurance costs to these people, how the hell are they going to survive? Is it because of the requirement of insuring the high risk at the same rate as the low risk?

The sell story was that if you put all of those uninsured into the pool it will make the pool bigger, and by econ-101 you are supposed to get lower rates with more participants, right?

Is it the providers that are driving that price up based on speculation of costs to cover the high risk or is it the higher levels of regulation that are the largest contributing factor to the increased premiums?

Is it possible that rates come down after more people sign up/had a year to work out the assumptions vs actual cost of coverage?

I'm one of the lucky ones, my employer's plan already met Obama's criteria and they only raised our rate a nominal amount...  I'm counting my blessings to not have to be extremely knowledgeable about this.... yet.

They have to cover everyone...but they can sure raise everyone's rates.
Simply put Burt (by the way, I loved the work you did with Ernie), most everyone was covered before...sure, we had about 30M uninsured, but that's 90% of the population. The uninsured were almost entirely made up of three groups:
1. Young adults, healthy, and broke
2. Unhealthy adults and broke
3. Illegals
So, in order to "fix" things, 90% of the people must suffer...welcome to the USSR having record wheat harvests and then having it all spoil because they only had a few factories that made know, the government knows best.
Let's say you were in your 50's and owned a business worth $ risked bankruptcy if you did not buy insurance, so you bought what you could afford, a major medical, $10K deductible.  Now, you need better coverage, because Obama thinks your plan is icky.
Dakota and his girlfriend Dakkotta (alternate spelling because her parents are cooler than you and me) just graduated college (paid for with grants from the government, because Belgian Women Literature Studies majors are worth subsidizing), and shockingly, can't find jobs. These two barely know where their next meal is coming from...why should they worry about insurance? They are broke now, they can't be more broke. They are not going to buy insurance, because they can't afford it, and oh by the way, they don't pay taxes.

Illegals are probably not going to bother with insurance either, because the USA law says everyone has to be treated. They also pay no taxes (cough, Fair Tax, cough), so the penalty is not a penalty.

So, the insurance company has to take everyone, even though they do not have to sign up until they are sick. So, healthy folks can not buy insurance if they have nothing to protect. Unhealthy folks can't afford this platinum coverage, so they go from bare bones coverage to none.

Supply and demand does not work the way Obama set it up, because he has no understanding of basic economics. Insurance companies have to charge more if you take away their right to choose who they want. The pool is not bigger, because many will wait until they are sick to get coverage, and then, those covered will have more illness.
It's Obamanomics 101...and, stop me if you've heard this before, the math doesn't work.

JFK sounds a lot like a...conservative, doesn't he?

The irony is, I've seen it reported numerous times that Reagan and JFK are the two biggest tax cutters in the past century. That alone would make the Dems abandon him in droves today. If you listen to revisionist history, you'd also think the left were all for civil rights...Al Gore Sr. fought it every step and was a KKK member, as was Robert Byrd. Many others, Jesse Jackson, Dan Rather, Al Sharpton being a few, have made many racial slurs, and had the old media cover them up or forget them in a day or two.

A couple years ago, I corrected a popular liberal blogger who kept referring to George Wallace as a Republican...he was a Democrat, and later ran as an independent. The blogger handled this very well...I was banned from leaving comments. There is no room for the truth when you're changing the facts from five decades ago.

The fact is, the fact blacks vote 95% for Dems is incredible marketing and the ability to take the fact they spend money foolishly and make that a positive.

Don't be afraid of the truth my friends. Palin was torn apart for speaking the truth, and is now being proven to be Nostradamus like in accuracy.

The answer to most everything Obama says is freedom. I'm all for some kind of federal HIRSP program for those who can't find insurance due to poor health. In fact, I could have created that in a fraction of the time and for a fraction of the price that Obamacare has already wasted.

This is what happens when you vote for a guy who is unqualified and a liar. And has no plan. Except to change the wealthiest nation in the history of the world into a socialist utopia.

New Braves' stadium to be built with two taxes being raised...rental cars and hotel...if that sounds familiar, it's pretty much a painless way for an area to build something and have it almost entirely financed by tourists.

Capitalists, entrepreneurs, and forward thinking dudes like me think alike.

The only thing stopping Milwaukee from doing this exact same thing to replace the Bradley Center is that Milwaukee keeps getting in Milwaukee's way from doing anything except insisting there's nothing wrong with the outdated Bradley Center...which they got for free, you know.

Obama lied, ice cream dates died. Remember when some scoffed at me for saying he'd make everyone a have not? For many folks, any extra cash will be going to their health plan. Lack of discretionary income hurts everyone. I believe they call that "spreading the wealth"...or maybe in this case "spreading the misery."

I don't know how they sleep at night. They bungled it so badly that 3+ years wasn't enough time...but 365 more days, and they're gonna nail it!

I had one more person tell me today this is all part of the plan...there's no way the left is this incompetent, and it was all a plan to get socialized medicine. I told her she was underestimating how unqualified our commander in chief is.

Benghazi, the IRS, the NSA, going after old media types that, sigh, don't just print their lie of the week as fact...that stuff never happened until '08. We're talking about pure evil and ineffectiveness.

The rest of the plan remains basically unchanged, including a manager retaining the challenge if he wins his appeal.--USA Today

This is a vital part of the proposed replay system, which now allows for two challenges a game. If changed to "two incorrect challenges," it sounds like a time saver. I think we'll already see a lot of stupid challenges in the 8th and 9th, just because they can.

Obama: Guess what? You can keep your plans another year!

2. Apparently, the wind changed directions again.:)

3. May you live in interesting times. This stretch of history will have a chapter in the history books...sure, it'll be called, "the indecisive years" or "the back and forth administration," but it will be mentioned.

Hey, I didn't vote for him. I knew he was incapable of any type of leadership position, and that he was a dishonest, back alley Chicago politician. But, we were all racist fools for not seeing that he was the messiah, the savior who would provide everyone with free, perfect health care; all the cash you'd ever want without having to work for it, and, in a new development, every street and sidewalk will now be paved with gold.

Mets, Brewers talked trade, made no progress. Crew likely to keep Aoki.

As much as we've heard about asking Braun to switch to RF, and that Aoki is a FA after '14, I think it's probably very unlikely Aoki is in MIL after 7/31 of next year. Adding in the fact Gindl/Davis proved they can at least be passable in a platoon/everyday role, not to mention Schafer is excellent on D...that screams trade to me.
