Plenty of tickets available for GB playoff game.

No one wants to say it, of course, but the weather has simply been too cold for most to want to spend several hours outside. The irony is, Sunday is supposed to be warm, comparably, 15-20.

If you believe in capitalism, the free market, and small government with minimal regulation, let's hope 2014 is a better year...can't get much worse.

Fight for your beliefs, we're not outnumbered, but we are outvoiced. The other side hates freedom, black kids being adopted, and responsible fiscal policy.

Today is a holiday, it would appear. Sports on TV in the afternoon, little local grocery packed (had to sit and wait for a car to leave to get a parking spot), and so on. I took the whole week off (but I did talk to a client on the phone this morning, so there), as many people do. I just mentioned on Facebook last night how many people could have taken two weeks off (16 days in a row!) by only using 3-4 personal days.

I really should open a vacation consulting firm on the side, as I am always amazed how people miss opportunities like this.

Once again Oprah was spot on a while back when she spoke of people like Melissa Harris-Perry being stuck in their ways for good.--Dennis Miller

The left is bursting with fools like this and unrepentant racists. It's a shame, but I'm glad they are not on my side.

By the way, this is a very unscientific statement, but an incredible majority of people who have hyphenated last names are very hard to take. Pick a name and shut the hell up.

Actress who made fun of black child says she's not guilty of anything, but apologizes anyway.

You see, racist liberals aren't used to being held accountable...

Hill, who has been proven to be a racist a dozen times, doesn't think mocking a child is wrong anyway...

The irony here is how bad these idiots are at lying. They are racists, they got caught being racists, and are now saying they are not racists even though they have said racist things...that's the dictionary definition of what a racist is.

Romney mocked by MSNBC in 2012 for tax returns showing his charity donations. Mocked in 2013 for having black adopted grandson.--Eddie Scarry

MSNBC has become a club where the smug go to exchange hateful opinions and reassure each other it's acceptable.--Stuart Stevens

Don't get me wrong, they have every right to be racist bigots at MSNBC, just like Duck Dynasty people have every right to quote the scripture and say they don't understand gay attraction. The difference is, the old media jumped all over one and ignored the other (of course, no one watches MSNBC).

Picture of black lady's family who made fun of Romney having black grandchild.

Looks like someone is ashamed of her heritage. It's like that A Different World episode where they make fun of the light skinned blacks. Funny how the left likes labeling everyone and making race an issue...while most of us just see people.

Tough keeping up with these MSNBC rules...Obamacare is racist, but making fun of a child for...being not.

I'm so glad they are not on my side. As the author points out, mixed race marriage is so commonplace, no one even mentions it anymore...except the left, who is so caught up with race they are blind to common decency and a child's feelings. I don't recall any youngster being made fun of since Trig Palin...note the theme that is repeating.

EDIT: Picture is here...I had to look at it for 15-20 seconds before I even found the black grandchild...of course, I'm not a racist either like the MSNBC clones...who, by the way, get microscopic ratings for a reason.

Funniest part of Hugh Hefner's Xmas photo?

The fact that after his now wife broke up with him, he went on Twitter to tell everyone how unhappy he was...because not only had his beautiful fiancee left him; she had taken their dog with her...and he really missed him.

There's an old country song with the title, "My Best Friend Ran Off With My Wife...And I Miss Him." (I'm not kidding, google it.)

The Rambling son, 11, and the Rambling dog, 17; Xmas 2013.

Santa showed up at our house while I was napping, the Rambling wife was at church playing bells, and the Rambling son was playing computer games.

(12/23/2013 04:33:00 PM) - Al

Took Xmas cards to my old store today...same two people still there that were there last year. After looking like a disaster for ages, it looked pretty passable today. Finally recovering...:)

Also took the Rambling dog in for a odd to not to worry about leaving food out and subconsciously looking over at him resting only to not see him. He'll sleep well tonight, as there's only two things he hates...vets and groomers. The last dozen times we've taken him, we've wondered if it will be his last trip...knock on wood, he's still kicking.

Stopped at the Evil Empire, picked up a few stocking stuffers for the Rambling son, most of which are dark chocolate related. Busier today than it was Saturday late morning...parked over a quarter mile from the door, so got my workout in. Picked up a couple things for the Rambling wife too, in addition to the gift card I get her so she can verify the fact I have no idea what she wants (nor does she, as she never requested a single item this year). Bought a couple things they had been out of Saturday (apparently, the mammoth retailer is clueless to the fact people go through a lot of meatballs during the holidays), and even treated myself to a new pair of sweats (which I think I'll wear to at least one Xmas dinner this year, as they stretch out dutifully).

While there, several times people darted out in front of me, to which I smiled and would say "Excuse me." One pair of women were not watching where they were going at all, and banged right into my cart. Both were in their late 20's/early 30's, and after they profusely apologized, I replied, "No problem, beautiful." I walked happily away on my quest for green onions and fresh mushrooms, one of the gals said to the other, "Hurry up and get in his way again, no one's called me that in years."

That, my friends, is how you marry up.

Wait 'til the bill for Obamacare comes due, and the meddling little fact that fewer people are insured than before, and paying far more for it sees the light of day in the old media.

2013 will seem like the good old days. 2014-2017 has all the indications of a disaster previously never seen. Don't forget, this is the guy who said Syria had to be bombed...and then, after seeing a poll, never mentioned it again.

When you believe in nothing, it's easy to not be able to set priorities and change your mind haphazardly.

Cracker Barrel caves to public outcry.

I suspect A&E will soon.

It occurred to me yesterday why, despite not really agreeing with what he said, I disagree with punishing him. He didn't say he would not hire a gay person, or that they were evil, or that they were bad. He just said he didn't "get it" or understand how a gay guy can look at him and a beautiful woman...and prefer him. I don't either, but I truly find nothing more boring than talking about someone else's sex life.

What a lying miscreant -- tell that to Amb Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Ty Woods, and Glenn Doherty. Barack Obama has no shame, no honor. Much of this is a direct correlation of the nanny state we've allowed our "tax it until it's a utopia" government to try and create. People can still believe what they wish. Punishing someone for said beliefs (my beliefs are OK, yours suck) is immature. Apparently, over 70 unions consist solely of evil, Hitler like members.

Chuckle, guffaw, hee hee.

The obit for unions has been written, but because they are a money laundering arm of the Democratic party, it has not been reported by the old media. That said, they are still dead. Even the president's attempts to give them special benefits and rights have not strengthened them...however, that has made them even more despised by the independents who voted for the lies and have to suffer the consequences...while watching the unions get a free pass.

Oh that 2014 election is going to be a joy. The backtracking and revisionist history will be a delight to witness, as I laugh at the fact that the left simply does not believe math a concept they have to deal with.

I'm having trouble figuring out why Luke Scott would sign a deal in Korea for $300K when it seems likely he could have made twice that as a bench player in the USA.

Scott has been outspoken in his traditional beliefs, and maybe thinks he'd have a hard time finding a job because of that.

I just learned today that childless women in their 20's make about 20% more than men in the same situation.

This is mainly because far more women go to college (many schools are 60/40 female), and far more women finish college. Much is made, of course, of the fact women make less than men, leaving out the nugget of fact that women take time out of the work force to have children and raise a family.

Note the complete lack of discussion about how unfair it is to young men to be making less, by the way. It's as if everyone suddenly understood supply and demand is not the same thing as discrimination.

It allows the GOP to pass a budget that's mostly devoid of the increased taxes and increased spending the left pushes through in any budget. It also delays most crappy decisions to 2016 or beyond, when we can hope the GOP can win both houses in '14 and/or '16, and/or the presidency in '16.

Juan Francisco is probably better than you, and the Brewers think.

Juan's problem is he was not a good fielder at 1B, and struck out a lot, two things casual fans notice whether the score is 10-1 or 2-1. Also of note, to even more sophisticated fans is he is simply horrible versus LHP, making him, at best, a platoon player, who are usually underrated by many fans, who don't really understand the idea of utilizing a player's strengths while minimizing his weaknesses.

I would not have any problem with a Francisco/Halton 1B platoon to begin the campaign. Ironically, they will probably have a pair of 1B in Nashville as well, in Hunter Morris and Jason Rogers, though Rogers will likely play some 3B and LF, in addition to the obvious DH use when playing an AL opponent.

Unlikely to stick, unless MIL is willing to go with a 13 man staff part of the season. He was dominant in rookie ball, but that's quite a ways from the NL. $50K is a small amount to spend to look at him for six weeks, I guess.

James Loney, 30 next year

.340/.421, 761 OPS career
.329/.398, 727 OPS 2011-13
.354/.465, 819 OPS career on the road
.351/.442, 793 OPS career versus RHP
6.1 UZR/150 last three seasons
MLBTR predicted he'd receive a 2y/$16M contract

Loney has always played in pitcher's parks, and his road numbers indicate that. .308/.361 career vs. LHP, so passable, but weak, .339/.390 vs. lefties in '13, may be improving, or a small sample. Solid defender, lefty hitter, Miller Park may help him as much as any player.

Mitch Moreland, will be 28 next year

Currently with Rangers, would have to be acquired in trade
.318/.440, 758 OPS career
.305/.435, 740 OPS career on road
.325/.463, 788 OPS career versus RHP
3.4 UZR/150 last four seasons
MLBTR predicted he'd get $2.7M in arby
team controlled through 2016

Moreland is also a passable LF/RF.Numbers in offensive paradise of Arlington not much better than on the road.

Ike Davis, will be 28 next year

Currently with Mets, would have to be acquired in trade
.334/.434, 768 OPS career
.356/.471, 827 OPS career versus RHP
.337/.457, 794 OPS career on road
2.5 UZR/150 last four seasons
MLBTR predicted he'd get $3.5M in arby
team controlled through 2016

Personally, I like all three, not knowing what it take to bring them aboard, of course. My preference would be Ike Davis, because he has been hurt the most playing in both a pitcher's park and a huge media market, which tends to dwell on the negative...I think he would be the most likely to bust out. He also has superb numbers versus RHP, and is probably best suited for a platoon...though he does have 12 homers in 400 career PA's against southpaws.

Hart will sign with SEA, 1y deal, thought to be about $8M.

Good luck to him, it would certainly not be where I expected, as SEA is a pitcher's park, and their travel is the worst in baseball.

Barring a no trade, of course, Loney could be dealt even if he signs a 2-3 year deal, if Hunter Morris does develop as expected/better than expected.

(12/11/2013 02:13:00 PM) - Al

Logan Morrison also ends up with SEA. Doug meeting with James Loney's agent, Loney is said to have a 2-3 year offer on the table, but Doug might go higher for a single season...and possibilty, might go longer...James might accept a one year contract to finally play in a hitter's ballpark as well. oney is also an excellent defender.

No idea how the 1B situation will play out, but let me throw these numbers at you:

Hart, career OPS---------------824
Davis, career OPS vs RHP-----827
Davis, career OPS on the road-794

Ike will almost certainly require a platoon partner, as he has managed only a 602 OPS versus southpaws, but those are plentiful and cheap (Sean Halton is probably giddy with anticipation at such an opportunity, it might also be a way to use Lucroy at 1B once a week).

I read a report a couple hours ago that, if memory serves, had Doug saying he has not talked to either KRod or Axford about a return to MIL. I took that to mean, well, what he said...I doubt Doug has talked to hardly any relief guys, as he does not know what he has to spend yet.

However, since then, many are reporting Doug said he has no interest in bringing back Axford or KRod...that's not what I read, but I cannot find an actual quote.

Also, "a source" reported the Brewers had talked to the Mets about Ike Davis, or possibly Davis and Len Duda...right after Doug said he touched base with the Mets.

Hart has to decide if he wants a one year deal with MIL, or maybe a one year deal with a vested option for '15, or a 2-3 deal elsewhere. MIL cannot take chances on injured players like bigger markets, and AL teams can. Fact of life.

Doug says nothing close on Logan Morrison.

Crew and Red Sox supposedly in on Carlos Marmol, along with 1-2 other teams.

I've always liked Marmol, though at some point, you'd think someone could convince him to throw strikes. Much like Axford, I think he was affected by pitching in a small, HR happy home ballpark.

Here's how the expanding government ideas are going across the big pond.

The Dems are on the wrong side of history. They just aren't smart enough to believe the rubes get it. It should be utopia all over the world if that style worked. It doesn't. That's why we study history in school, instead of getting high and protesting the free market.

I don't mean to, you know, use basic economics to dispel the myth a higher minimum wage will somehow boost the poor into the middle class.

That said, if a $10 minimum wage will be good, why wouldn't a $20 one be better? How about $50? Those would be laughed away without debate, but in reality, any type of fiddling with supply and demand is every bit as goofy. You create artificial inflation, and businesses simply cut back...can't afford twelve people anymore...down to nine. Three families lose financial support. Three more onto the government entitlements.

It's almost as if that's the idea...

The irony is, up until a few years ago, the KC franchise played in a minor league baseball stadium that held 10K...and they averaged 8K. They built a soccer palace, known throughout the world as the nicest stadium in the world with a 20Kish capacity...and they sell it out every game.

According to many, this is impossible and never happens...

Who would have guessed a few years ago the main problem MLS keeps having is their brand new, soccer specific stadiums that hold 18-22K...are not big enough.

A government program loaded with waste? The hell you say.

This is why Reagan correctly said churches and charities were far better at helping the needy...if you give $100 to the Salvation Army, about $90 ends up helping. The government spends it on pencil pushers, platinum benefits for said pencil pushers, weekend conventions and luxury travel for said pencil pushers...and might get $15 of assistance out of it.

The math says the poverty rate is still the same as it was five decades ago...before we spent $15T on programs to eliminate intelligent individual might come to the conclusion that a certain fraction of the population is destined to be poor because of bad decisions, bad judgement, and bad luck.

We declared a war on poverty, and poverty won...but sadly, the only response has been to double down on the same, failed policies of the past.

Sad to see George Marshall transferring.

That said, he likely realized Bronson Koenig is a star in the making, and knows he can get 30+ minutes a game in the Horizon or maybe even the Missouri Valley.

I would assume Bo and his staff will add another recruit this season, as they only had one, and were expected to carry it over, having held it for top ten nationally ranked Kevon Looney.

Also, note that Doug keeps mentioning Gindl as "getting some starts" in LF. I would think, barring the unforeseen, Caleb and Logan will be the backup OF's (assuming they carry two, though they have some "utility" guys who have played some OF, as has Bianchi), and Schafer will likely take Davis' spot in LF on many nights in the 8th or 9th inning.

Take a gander at how early man caves, foraging for prey, berries, roots...not exactly an idyllic, Paris Hilton at Club Med, one bikini in the morning, another in the afternoon, designer sundress in the evening existence. Most were nomads, and those who stayed in one spot were simple farmers...their main tool being a sharp stick.

Will Smith, the young pitcher acquired for Aoki, may well end up being far more than a reliever...he has had success as a SP in the minors and is still very young. He projects better than Nelson or Hellweg, and is a big lefty, who averaged 90.6 mph with his fastball last year (for comparison, Estrada averaged 89 last yar and 90 for his career).

A 3.85 AAA ERA compiled as a 21-23 year old speaks volumes 3.32 ERA as ages 22-23, in the hitter friendly PCL is superb, as does a K per inning.

His floor is as an effective relief pitcher. This kid can certainly be an effective #2/3 SP. Aoki is a nice player, but he's only signed for a single season, and while a good all around player, with a very solid OBP, obtains much of value from being signed to an obscenely inexpensive contract. He'll also be entering his year of 32, an age in which many corner OF's have fallen off a cliff.

I wish him the best of luck, and enjoyed watching him. Thrilled to get a young pitcher who is locked into team control until after the (gasp) 2019 campaign for him.

Repeat after me...nothing is less important than batting order.

And if you're someone who talks about it, you're just embarrassing yourself. If you would bat the P leadoff, your best hitter 9th, and so on, you'd score about 5% fewer runs...about 35-40 over the course of a season. Some days, you'd score more that way. It's just baseball. My guess is Segura will move to the top spot and the #2 spot will probably be handled by either Gomez or the 2B platoon (which, of course, no one will admit will be a platoon, though it's very likely to look like one).

However, I do know it makes no difference. Well, actually like strikeouts, it does make a minute difference, but not nearly as much as good luck and good health.

Obama has a web site that doesn't work and drones that kill people. Amazon has a functioning web site and drones that deliver gifts.--Robert Stacy McCain

And, Amazon's incompetence did not kill anyone in Benghazi, nor did they have the NSA spy on Republicans, nor did they have the IRS go after conservatives.

Amazon will still be around in three years too.

I mention this every year, but if people would stop spending money on ugly Xmas sweaters and other incredibly stupid things, maybe they could, you know, actually make more charitable contributions and, you know, actually be something more than a remarkably self important oaf who, at the end of the day, thinks that wearing an ugly Xmas sweater is something to be proud of.

The minimum wage, like many entitlements, was created to keep the lower class from moving up.

It's anti freedom. If I want to do some work for a neighbor in the evenings, and we agree to a pay rate of $5 an hour, the government should not even dream of preventing that because they deem the rate as too low.

As we've seen with health care, the government has no idea how supply and demand works. They've fiddled with the premiums so much, folks who want insurance can't afford it. They simply do not understand the free market, and how it has created the richest nation in the history of mankind.

The Rambling dog, who wraps himself around the deck at least once a day when out on his cable, just ate around his medicine in his bowl of kibble.

Selective intelligence.

Last night, around 2AM, he was whining, and for whatever reason, I did not hear him, and for the first time all year (since he started getting up in the night in March or so), the Rambling wife did and got up and let him out. That did not go over well this morning, needless to say.

Badgers defeat a very good Virginia team. Hard to believe this group lost 80% of their frontcourt minutes from last season. Gasser's return makes that number kind of moot, but if they hit 3's, they can beat anyone in the country.

Adam reports a pair of minor league signings...I've heard of them both, so that's a good sign.

Pagnozzi is almost certainly penciled in as the everyday C at AAA. Has decent CS% numbers, and is not a complete black hole offensively. Falu is a speedy switch hitter who can play all the infield spots, and has even played 100+ games in the OF. He's in his year of 31, but given the fact most middle infielders hit like I run after a big meal, that's a nice depth signing. Hits pretty evenly from both sides.

The Brewers are expected to pursue Logan Morrison as a trade candidate this offseason, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reported earlier in the week. He notes that other teams like the Rays and Red Sox could jump into the mix as well.--MLBTR

Beltran, who is 37 and a terrible defender now, has a 3y/$48M offer on the table.

Has to be an AL team, and the fact he didn't accept it seems to indicate it's not a popular destination...SEA would be my guess.

12/03/2013 01:27:00 PM

(12/03/2013 12:18:00 PM) - Al

They don't care. Remember, it's all about the power. First health care, then this, then that. Soon, the government runs everything, and the rubes don't even realize it.

Anyone wondering how the USSR could have had record wheat harvests annually and then watched most of it rot in warehouses hasn't been watching Obamacare. They spent $600M on a web site with no security and that doesn't work. They didn't test it. The health care part doesn't talk to the subsidy part. The only goal of a government worker is to have a job at the end of the day. They're not going to work long hours to ensure something works. They're going to take another break and point fingers elsewhere.

That's why capitalism works, and why it will always work.

That's why Obama's entire presidency has floundered...they don't understand why that is true.

They don't grow up because they are not forced to grow up. Keep being a bum until you're 26 and stay on your parents' insurance is just a "continue to be immature card" that Obama handed them in exchange for the votes of those who didn't "zone out" and forgot to vote.

Orioes trade $10M closer to A's for Jemile Weeks, who is either a platoon 2B or a weak fielding utility guy at this point.

It's funny seeing Beane picking up overpaid closers, but he can since his young arms are so cheap. That said, Johnson had next to zero value. Very few teams seem to be overpaying for saves these days.

JFK and Reagan both cut the bejeebers out of taxes...the left of today, that reeks of Marx, would do well to understand that their brand of tax and spend silliness has never worked, and will never work. Kazmir gets two years after sucking from 2009-'11 and not pitching in the bigs in '12.

And from Beane, who I would think would be hesitant to guarantee more than a single season to a pitcher with one effective campaign in the past half decade.

Crew debating whether or not to tender Francisco.

I would not think it would be much of a question, as he's only projected to make $1.4M. I'm not sure if this means I may be overrating him or if money is that tight. At worst, I view him as a 1B/3B reserve with power.

Sales down 3% over Black Friday weekend. Though 90% of shopping still takes place at brick and mortar locations, online shopping goes up every year. Hence, I would say breaking even should be looked at as a gain. Down 3% is probably down about 1.5% in reality.

And, as you would expect, Thursday business just stole from Friday.

I would expect huge discounts on clothing and "gifty" items (GPS, electronics, jewelry), as retailers cannot afford to carry that over. The week before Xmas might be extraordinary, as I assume stores were projecting 2-3% increases this past weekend.

(12/01/2013 07:12:00 PM) - Al

Most teams, including the Brewers, want Corey Hart on a one-year deal.  However, because there are a number of teams in on him, he might get two.--Boston Globe

If he's getting two years, he won't get two years and a huge discount or incentives.
