The Rambling family left for the weekend, and left me home...without the Rambling car, which picked an inopportune time to start making such a terrible noise I did not know if it was safe to drive home from across town, when I took the Rambling son over to meet his mom after work. Of course, it could have happened at a client's house 90 minutes away from home, so sometimes, you just have to be thankful for small favors.
Hence, it's sitting in a parking lot for the weekend, and I guess I'll be pretending I'm a New Yorker.
Don't feel bad for me, the fridge and freezer are stocked, and as of now, the cable and internet are working. I'll be OK.
EDIT: Since I pretty much was able to diagnose my knee injury via Google, I just did the same with my car symptoms. I get a lot of "wheel bearing" responses, but those were replaced years ago (of course, maybe I wore out a 2nd set), and sounded nothing like this, more like a helicopter. Finally, I found a message board when a guy asked about a metallic, high pitched sound from his right fron wheel. He said they had told him his brakes were wearing out a year before, and he had just kept driving.
As I just told the Rambling wife, it sounded like I had written it...metallic noise, they told me the brakes "should be replaced" when we both got new tires...that was 18 months ago. When I asked what percentage of the brakes were left, I was told the guy had not written it down, and he had gone home for the day. So, I kind of forgot about it, just kept thinking, I probably need new brakes at some point. On the message board, the guy's brakes and rotors were both shot, and something was rubbing. One person said you could probably go 50 miles before the wheel was destroyed.
EDIT 2: When I called her, the Rambling wife had stopped at Wal Mart about halfway to her destination for a bathroom break and to pick up coffee creamer/flavoring for the weekend. I'm married to an addict. I keep telling her, caffeine tablets are far cheaper and just as effective...I keep some in the car in case I get drowsy and I'm a ways from home.
