I know about 1M guys who would have paid to do this every day.

(4/26/2017 03:30:00 AM) - Al

Preach it Rand.

Considering 45% of the citizens pay no income tax at all (more than that when you consider illegals and those who work for cash), it's time to "share the wealth" with those paying all the bills.

It works until they run out of other people's money.

If you think something is expensive now, wait until it's free.

The irony is, they're always surprised when it it has every time since time began. But the next time, we'll do it right.

I'm not surprised at all Thames is hitting. If all his HR's were doubles, my Adam Lind comparison would be looking genius. That said, I don't think I said it on air, but I had in my notes I thought he'd hit 20-25 HR's and a lot of doubles.

Looks like I may have underestimated his ceiling a bit.

4/25/2017 09:01:00 PM

(4/25/2017 06:50:00 PM) - Al

Gunkel has a very good BB/K ratio , low HR/9, and a good ground ball rate. He would seem to fit the Stearns "type."

Move a little further left, ESPN.

That's a shame. And since they've already rid themselves of their conservatives, guess who's next?

They fail to understand if discrimination is legal against whites, it will soon be legal against everyone.

4/25/2017 04:16:00 PM

(4/25/2017 02:34:00 PM) - Al

A wise man has said something similar.

When they've been wrong for half a century and every idea requires more cash from the successful, you'd think folks would figure out it's just simple income redistribution at some point.

They hate the free market because it works.

When $2B in cash just isn't strong enough leadership...

4/25/2017 12:30:00 PM

(4/25/2017 10:00:00 AM) - Al

Why do they hate free speech so?

Money quote: You see, the words “Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech” were too expansive for liberals’ tastes because they prevented Congress from making laws abridging the freedom of speech.

It's not funny because it's true.

Jenny McCarthy is sitting somewhere saying, "500K kids in Africa? So?"

Of course, back when they used DDT, it was a fraction of that. We've probably lost about 50M in the past 3+ decades because of the asinine, shortsighted banning of DDT.

(4/24/2017 08:00:00 PM) - Al

Walking back into the living room, my lower back suddenly spasmed. I paused a sec and it kind of slipped back into place. However, as I sat, it continued to hurt, so I gutted it out, walking to the bathroom and putting on a pain patch.

I don't recall the exact day I got old...but it sure must have happened a while back.

For those keeping track, these sanctions are for the chemical weapons that Rice, Obama, and Kerry insisted Syria did not have, because they're smarter and more honest than the rest of us.

(4/24/2017 03:40:00 PM) - Al

Newcastle United has played their way back into the English Premier League by finishing in the top 2 in the regular season of the Sky Bet Championship, after being relegated last season.

I realize this means nothing to just about everyone, but as a proud Magpie fan, I can look forward to watching them next year on the NBC Sports Network on SAT/SUN mornings (or, when I get up after DVRing them).

(4/24/2017 01:51:00 PM) - Al

I believe this moment will be remembered as the moment the Times tried to move further to the left yet found themselves up against a mythical but real far left wall of "what the hell are you talking about?"

4/24/2017 01:51:00 PM

(4/24/2017 01:00:00 PM) - Al

Does anyone ever actually buy no-show socks that don't slip under your heel when you're walking?--Dana Perino

Nope. I've had the next size up, usually called "ankle" socks slip, though I've always just blamed on my size 12 feet.

4/24/2017 11:00:00 AM

(4/24/2017 09:00:00 AM) - Al

It's almost as if a half century of lies, exaggerations, and sky is falling rhetoric, none of which has come to fruition whatsoever, has hurt their cause.

The boy who cried wolf wonders why they keep doing this.

(4/24/2017 06:30:00 AM) - Al

I'm not saying all hate crimes are fake.

I am saying, however, that when you remove all the fake ones, the amount remaining is either zero or very close in proximity to zero.

Somehow the left twists tax cuts as a "gift to the rich." If we're going to cut taxes, we must cut them for the people who actually PAY them.--Trish Regan

True that. When almost half pay zero, complaining about those that do seems especially selfish.

This is why a sales or consumer tax is vastly superior. Not only is saving and investing rewarded, those who normally avoid taxes suddenly are contributing and have skin in the game...lower income, illegals, drug dealers, those that work "off the books" for cash, and so on.

If one were cynical, one might believe the reason we do not have more consumer taxes is politicians realize they are more fair, and fairness is not the goal, but sticking it to the successful is.

Socialists do not understand math. Imagine that.

50% are cheaper than the median, by the way. Should we make housing free?

I suppose all apartments should be above average...

(4/23/2017 10:00:00 PM) - Al

I hope they keep this up until NOV 2018.

(4/23/2017 08:00:00 PM) - Al

The smugness against those who work for a living is quite apparent.

And, they look like very nice uniforms to me, though I like gray and black more than most.

4/23/2017 08:00:00 PM

(4/23/2017 06:44:00 PM) - Al

Nieuwenhuis clears waivers and accepts an assignment to Colorado Springs.

Maybe he and Suter can catch a flight to Denver together. While that's romantic, I assume Kirk probably flew home FRI to spend a few days at home, awaiting his fate.

4/23/2017 06:44:00 PM

(4/23/2017 06:37:00 PM) - Al

Suter back down, Garza activated.

As Counsell pointed out, if Broxton is able to run that fly ball down (and left unsaid, the bad luck of Hughes allowing a blooper and a ground ball that both ended up being cheap hits), it's probably a different outcome. 1 and 2 run games almost always have a play or two that determine the final, and it's often simply luck. They often say good teams win close games, but they win them at a rate far lower than they win blowouts.

4/23/2017 06:37:00 PM

(4/23/2017 03:29:00 PM) - Al

Suter being called on again today after going 3 frames FRI night tells me he's almost certainly the guy headed back to the minors to make room for Garza...barring an injury, of course.

You could argue Marinez, Milone, or Hughes, as they are limited due to lacking options.

4/23/2017 03:29:00 PM

(4/23/2017 01:55:00 PM) - Al

I like Nieuwenhuis making $550K far more than Martin at $4.75M. Stearns is not a believer in a .300 career OBP either.

Never say never, but I doubt it.

4/23/2017 01:55:00 PM

(4/23/2017 01:45:00 PM) - Al

Adam says many are wondering when Brinson will come up.

One has to keep in mind, if Brinson would go 0-4 in his debut, those that do not understand small samples would insist he needed to go back down.

Those that wonder why Broxton is off to a slow start wondered the same thing last year. Casuals gonna be casual. He's hitting almost exactly as one would expect a guy to hit with a .240 BAbip. Good fortune does not balance out in 53 PA's.

As if on cue, while I was digging for that link, he smacks a double.

4/23/2017 01:45:00 PM

(4/23/2017 01:00:00 PM) - Al

It's almost as if being called names has only strengthened their beliefs. Mostly, they seem to love the fact he's not Obama.

Imagine that. I seem to recall a wise man saying this numerous times...

Here's how it will go:

NOV 2016--You are all idiots.

JAN2017--Fools I tell ya.

APR 2017--Total nimrods.

SUMMER 2017--They should all be rounded up and killed.

FALL 2017--If I could kill them and not get caught, I would.

SPRING 2018--The devil himself.

SUMMER 2018--The hell with them.

FALL 2018--Hi. I wanted to talk to you about your vote. I respect you and would really appreciate it if you would consider coming over to our side.

Remember, the minority party always gains in the midterms. How much they gain, however, is directly related to their message and likability.

4/23/2017 01:00:00 PM

(4/23/2017 12:30:00 PM) - Al

Glenn Beck and many others may disagree, but there's plenty of pro choice people in the Republican party.

However, that same "agree to disagree" sentiment appears to have no place in the Democrat party whatsoever, at least at the top.

That's fine with me. Trump won because of independents and moderates, and many of them are either pro life or agree with limits on abortion as well. Push as many folks away as you wish, there's plenty of room in our tent.

(4/22/2017 06:24:00 PM) - Al

I forgot Garza had to be activated MON when I was discussing that 25th roster spot. Suter is likely to return to AAA, barring injury to another.

4/22/2017 06:24:00 PM

(4/22/2017 05:14:00 PM) - Al

No one has claimed Nieuwenhuis yet I guess, as Stearns says they hope he makes it through and will happily make room for him at AAA if he does. I would assume they would just send Wren down to AA to play every day for a while.

Even if he does clear, he could become a free agent and have a clearer path elsewhere. At the very least, he will likely get an opt out and an agreement to be brought up or released if another team offers to put him on their 25 man roster.

4/22/2017 05:14:00 PM

(4/22/2017 05:00:00 PM) - Al

Funny, they never have any "security" issues for the riots.

(4/22/2017 04:46:00 PM) - Al

Always interesting to see a terrorist event in France. As Newt Gingrich pointed out, France has very strict gun laws...except for terrorists, who have no problems obtaining weapons. Funny how that works.

No one dare mention the actual problem, for fear of offending someone. This criminal served 20 years in prison for trying to kill cops, but was turned out onto the street to kill again...because shut up. He was detained two weeks ago in a terror investigation...but let go.

As long as you're treating it like a criminal investigation instead of a war, the USA and their allies will continue to lose.

4/22/2017 04:46:00 PM

(4/22/2017 03:44:00 PM) - Al

I would tend to agree.

Fight back where it hurts...not only not show up at the opponent's celebration of self importance, but completely ignore it.

4/22/2017 03:44:00 PM

(4/22/2017 03:30:00 PM) - Al

The hell you say.

Selfish potheads gonna be selfish potheads. You can make it legal at the state level if you wish, but that doesn't make those who use it suddenly give a damn.

Heck, I consider it a win no pets or rape tents were left behind.

4/22/2017 03:30:00 PM

(4/22/2017 01:00:00 PM) - Al

I disagree.

More Chelsea, please.

The mere fact so many on the left adore her makes me feel better all by itself.

EDIT: The article has several laugh out loud moments, including a guffaw about a 5 year old Chelsea writing a letter to President Reagan. She doesn't even realize she's a parody of herself.

4/22/2017 01:00:00 PM

(4/22/2017 12:00:00 PM) - Al

4/22/2017 12:00:00 PM

(4/22/2017 11:00:00 AM) - Al

Why is this sweeping the planet? Because it makes perfect sense.

Citizenship ain't a right, it's a privilege. Behave or go back to the craphole you left behind. That's not mean, that's the way it is.

4/22/2017 11:00:00 AM

(4/22/2017 09:00:00 AM) - Al

The "bad luck" continues wherever socialism reigns.

Go figure.

When everyone is "equal," no one wants to unload the truck, work the overnight shift, or, you know, much of anything.

4/22/2017 09:00:00 AM

(4/22/2017 06:30:00 AM) - Al

I hate to, you know, bring common sense into a good rant that doesn't make any sense, but considering every player in MLB history has been male, the fact there ain't that many women in front offices ain't even a mild surprise.

As a firm believer in the best person for the job, the whole idea of pushing certain races or genders is pretty much offensive to me. It reminds me of the days of "there aren't enough black QB's." As long as one insists on prefacing a noun with an adjective that describes race, you're part of the problem.

Condi Rice was not the Sec of State because she was a woman, because she was black, or because she was a black woman. But when Hillary Clinton was given the same job, her gender was suddenly very important, because it fit the narrative the old media wanted to sell. The public sees right through it, luckily. They think the rubes are deplorable and uneducated rednecks, but they ain't.

As Jeff Foxworthy points out, those people that are made fun of all the time are the same ones that join the military, start their own businesses; build the roads, bridges, and buildings we all depend on; and serve on the police force and as firefighters. That ain't because they're too dumb to do anything else, it's because that's what they choose to do.

Suffice it to say, if the house is on fire, I don't want the person going in to try and save me or my family to have been hired to fill some liberal's politically correct quota.

4/22/2017 06:30:00 AM

(4/22/2017 03:30:00 AM) - Al

This is why I laugh when folks say we don't need to keep improving our military equipment. Imagine going up against this with your rifle.

In reality, it's just their ignorant way of saying they don't care about anyone defending our country.

4/22/2017 03:30:00 AM

(4/22/2017 01:30:00 AM) - Al

The internal concern should be why it's not in his contract that he cannot ride dirt bikes.

That's not just a no brainer, it's standard. Not only is it silly, but I assume no insurance company will cover that contract without that clause.

4/21/2017 09:55:00 PM

(4/21/2017 09:13:00 PM) - Al

Proof the future is in good hands with young conservative women.

Read the author's bio at the bottom. Very funny and exactly what the left says as they proudly demean females who believe in fiscal responsibility.

4/21/2017 09:13:00 PM

(4/21/2017 09:08:00 PM) - Al

If this is true, I would say it's Reaganesque.

Highest corporate tax rate in the world..and the left insists it's not high enough. This is why I'm a Republican, all the other stuff, patriotism and strength of the military, is just a bonus.

4/21/2017 09:08:00 PM

(4/21/2017 08:02:00 PM) - Al

Garza starts MON, Milone to the bullpen.

With the Nieuwenhuis move, I would assume they will begin using that 25th spot as a depth piece...keep a reliever fresh, if there's a couple days off in a week, add a position player, and so on. Suter, for example, should rent, not buy.

4/21/2017 08:02:00 PM

(4/21/2017 07:00:00 PM) - Al

I'd say they were just operatives of the Dems that are on TV, but I think it's safe to say no one even argues that anymore.

4/21/2017 07:00:00 PM

(4/21/2017 04:38:00 PM) - Al

If you haven't noticed, the excitement over the Bucks mild success...winning a couple playoff deafening. Those who opposed their new arena, much like those who fought Miller Park, are suddenly very quiet, and those that do still tend to rewrite history, pretending that losing a team would never actually's all a bluff.

The folks who live in Seattle, St. Louis, San Diego, and Oakland say howdy. And despite fighting tooth and nail since they lost the Sonics, SEA is no closer to having a team than they were the day after the Sonics left.

Many folks simply lack the pride to say their city is better off with professional sports. My favorite is the "they should spend that money on education" argument, never mind that that money would not exist without the performer tax and a team to host the games.

4/21/2017 04:38:00 PM

Crew DFA's Nieuwenhuis, brings up Suter again.

Nieuwenhuis has never cleared waivers despite being DFA'd several times in the past, and I doubt if he will this time, so hopefully the Brewers can work out a trade for him. He's a very good option for several teams as a lefty OF who can play all 3 positions, either in a platoon or reserve role.

Stearns must feel Franklin has more of a future, or at least a higher ceiling. Perez and Santana have played CF, and Thames and Franklin can play the corner OF spots. It also gives a long leash to Broxton.

As Stearns said a couple weeks ago, taking guys off the 40 is painful at this stage. This will also create a 40 man spot if they need to add Blazek or another player not currently on it, or, of course, allows them to claim a player as they did Drake and Franklin (Drake was then dealt for).

EDIT: That piece at MLBTR says he will have the right to be a free agent if he does clear waivers, so he must have cleared them once before, though he has been claimed several times as well.

EDIT 2: I feel the need to point out that the Brewers preferred to protect their prospects rather than Kirk. Phillips, Brinson, and Cordell are all at AAA, and Mike Reed is at AA, dominating as one would expect (14 walks in 55 PA's) him to. Wren is also at AAA and while he and Reed probably project more as reserves, he's far younger and cheaper than Nieuwenhuis.

4/21/2017 04:06:00 PM

(4/21/2017 03:30:00 PM) - Al

Good for her.

As far more important people than me have pointed out, they have had seven presidents and several heads of state from all over the world speak there, and the only ones they pretend to have "security" problems for are conservatives...unexpectedly.

The silencing of thought on college campuses should result in a loss of all financial aid into their coffers. It'll end in about a millisecond. They are extremely high minded as long as their coffers are full.

When the Marxist Onion starts piling on to the snowflake teasing brigade, you are left to realize that the "mainstream" left is suddenly so far to the left, that moderates and independents are closer to Trump.

In case you missed the exit polls...

92% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents say Trump has done as well or better than they expected.--Christian Science Monitor

I've been told by many that he's doing a terrible job. The irony? If he would have solved world hunger and brought about world peace in his first 3 months, they'd be talking about his tax returns.

Negative people gonna be negative.

Nothing is her fault. Her lack of responsibility is why it was always so difficult for her backers to name a single accomplishment.

Once again, those who underestimated him are left puzzled and insisting that, damn it, he's nothing but a darn dope who has been successful at everything he does despite himself.

Note the left's continued belief that if they do not report it, or hide it on page 10, no one will found out. The Times is still living in 1950, and it shows how out of touch they are.

Good to see others saying what you are thinking.

The royals complaining about anything is very reminiscent of Chelsea Clinton doing never ends well, and they seem completely out of touch. It's one thing to be concerned about mental health, but yet another to tell folks how rough you've had it in your life of extreme privilege.

Reminds me of that Ranger Up design.

I loves me a feisty Meghan McCain telling it like it is on giving Iran $2B in cash on pallets and pretending that'll be remembered as "strategic patience."

{Don't forget, they insisted they eliminated all the chemical weapons in Syria. They lied. It's what they do.}

What did the wise man say?

It's not a coincidence that strategic patience looks a lot like not doing anything.

Bucks not only jumped out to a 20 point lead in the first quarter, but never let TOR back in the game, never letting the lead fall below 20 the entire second half. The Raptors not only looked flabbergasted, they committed several rough fouls, and the Bucks never once retaliated.

Often times, good teams simply play much better when their backs are against the wall, and it would not surprise me at all if TOR does just that starting SAT. That said, their inability to mount any sort of run and keep it clean speaks poorly of their mindset.

As I expected, Knebel and Feliz both rested tonight, but Drake, Marinez, Torres, and Barnes piece together the last 11 outs.

I read somewhere that the Brewers are on pace to hit about 300 homers, which would destroy the all time record by about 30 or so. I don't see that happening, but Stearns does love extra base hits. He's never been a GM anywhere else, so maybe he's just playing into the home ballpark, but he chases SLG just like Doug did.

If the NBA did not have such a ridiculous roster system, in which Jabari Parker counts against their 15 man roster, the Bucks could still have Novak.

3 cavities filled today, all on the bottom. I almost tripped on my lip walking to the car.

I picked up the Rambling son, and then stopped at Wendy's to get him a snack.

Al: Yeah, a crispy chicken sandwich without mayo or lettuce, and a free  junior chocolate frosty (we have the little keytag we bought for $2 last DEC).

Wendy's dude: Crispy chicken and (pause) 3 chocolate frosties?

Al: The chicken and a FREE junior frosty.

WD: Oh. Pull ahead.

Al: (to Rambling son): Dino why e can unnesten me.

RS: (rolls eyes, shakes head, looks for hole to crawl into)

By the way, he numbed me at 1PM. He filled the first one, and then went off to do a couple consults, came back about 1:45.

Dentist: Are you still numb?

Al: Oh yeah.

Now a little after 4, still numb as ever.

Mildly disappointing loss today, but the Cubs simply take walks and make pitchers throw a lot of pitches. I do wonder, however, if Feliz is 100%, based on his velocity being 95-97 today and his plethora of breaking stuff he threw today...I don't think he has thrown over a handful of off speed pitches all season, and today, looked like he threw about 50% of them. That sudden change is often a sign of discomfort, lack of confidence, or both.

Making Knebel and Feliz each throw 30+ pitches simply deserves a tip of the cap, and they only got 5 outs as well.

No one's going to complain about a 6-3 trip, however. Time to get home and keep being productive.

Milone pitched very passably today, so if Garza returns soon, it may be interesting to see who is removed from the 25 man, as only Barnes and Knebel (and the catchers) have options. Milone is far from a star, but his ability to put up a 4-4.50 ERA while a member of a rotation seems pretty well documented.

I would guess Milone and Marinez would be the low men on the totem pole, barring injury. Of course, we're not sure how much they think of recent pickups Drake and Franklin either.

I'm not as surprised about the bullpen, as other than the Feliz/Thornburg swap, it's very similar to the version they had after 8/1, and it is not nearly as tough to find 70 inning guys as it is 180 inning guys.

Parody site with an amusing take on Easter church attendance.

I read a year or two ago that the weeks after Easter is the most popular time for a pastor or minister to take a Sunday or two off, as often conventions/meetings are held and because church attendance plummets as people choose to work on their lawns/homes, enjoy the spring weather, and often make their first trip to their cabin/cottage. It is known as Low Sundays in the industry. It's also jokingly called a "second string" or "backup" service, as usually, an assistant pastor or deacon gives the sermon, and even the choir and organist often take the day off.

Years ago, I remember my brother in law (technically, my sister in law's hubby) complaining his family went to church every Sunday growing up, and on Easter and Xmas, it was always packed, and since they often ran late, would have to stand. He was a victim of CEO's (Christmas and Easter only).

The military's job is to kill people and to complete their mission.

Putting artificial restrictions on them is not only hellishly ignorant, it prevents them from accomplishing their only goals.

As I pointed out on numerous occasions, the previous administration never seemed to even comprehend that if they did not allow the military to go into churches and schools to kill/capture enemy combatants, enemy combatants would, wait for it, hide in churches and schools...or worse, lie in wait and ambush them as they congregated to determine their next plan of action.

This is quite possibly, the confirmation of just how badly the Obama administration hindered the American military and led to the loss of untold life and limbs. Why? Didn't want to offend terrorists that want nothing more than to destroy the USA.

Note what Trump said in the article...that he gave the military permission to do what they needed to do. Not tell them what they could not do. That alone, those two sentences, perfectly sums up the difference between the two. And why one left the other a disaster in every foreign land.

One delegates and lets the experts decide what the best way to accomplish something is. One insists they know better.

Imagine that.

Finding out many on the left are very concerned that we may have killed "too many terrorists" with our huge bomb.

1. Too many terrorists?

2. Would 10 or 20 small bombs make them feel better?

I guess I just don't get it.

Moreover, the very swiftness of the response carried a message to the wider world. Obama is gone. No more elaborate forensic investigations. No agonized presidential handwringing over the moral dilemmas of a fallen world. It took Obama 10 months to decide what to do in Afghanistan. It took Trump 63 hours to make Assad pay for his chemical-weapons duplicity.

For now, however, the traditionalists are in the saddle. U.S. policy has been normalized. The world is on notice: Eight years of sleepwalking is over. America is back.--Charles Krauthammer

1. Common sense is two words, Jenny.

2. Perhaps we should enact a law that would make it against the law to possess a firearm if you are a felon, or break into a gun shop, or steal a plethora of weapons. mean all these laws already exist?

This stupid broad can't name a single law that could have prevented a criminal loon from taking things that do not belong to him. We can, however, actually give these thugs lengthy sentences when they are caught...sometimes, that's even a deterrent!

Many complaints online about picking up Oliver Drake...just like there were when they signed Torres and Hughes...for nothing mind you. Drake has had plenty of success in AA/AAA/MLB, and considering Stearns' track record in finding gems (Villar, Torres, Pina, Broxton, Nieuwenhuis) that other clubs had either released or happily included as throw ins, I'm more than happy to allow him to bob and weave and see what he can find...they certainly are not all going to work out, but those that do can either fill holes or be traded to fill holes.

The one thing that is very apparent when you look at what Stearns has done...he has no biases. Teams prefer younger, high ceiling players with options, for obvious reasons. In fact, teams often DFA players without options because they are more likely to sneak through, since they will require a 25 and 40 man spot. Picking up older guys with no options is a way to bring in talent, just with little flexibility.

Drake has no options left. Stearns almost appears to be targeting players without any options, but that is absurd. However, it would appear he does not have any qualms about bringing in talent, regardless of if they cannot be sent down without clearing waivers.

Drake was outstanding in the minors and majors in 2015-16. High K's, low HR's, lots of ground outs. Too many walks, but he made it work with K's and DP's.

We've been losing physical retail locations since 2009.

But now, it's OK to notice it.--Instapundit

Folks have been blaming Wal Mart for years, but Amazon and other online retailers have actually landed the death blow. After buying from, I had to go there today to buy some refrigerated items for the Rambling wife's weekend at the waterpark with the inlaws. The parking lot was packed, and I suppose the pre Easter rush made it even moreso. Going there and having to fight the crowds and wait for checkout, then take it to the car and bring it in the house...instead of just bringing in a box off the step, made me appreciate online ordering even more.

Then, the Rambling wife stopped at our local grocery deli to pick up chicken for supper on her way home from work and the deli gal yelled at her and was rude because she had the nerve to ask for extra wings instead of drumsticks (you realize, the wings are actually cheaper by the piece) because "They gotta take what they get." Seriously.

This is why I hate people so.

Saw a meme on Twitter last night that I can't locate now (pulled due to trademark violations?) that said:

This is what happens when Hotch and Morgan leave Criminal Minds. Can't find anyone!

It was a double pic, the Criminal Minds characters on top and the Janesville fugitive under them.

I have noticed there is some soft, quiet musings about "how long are we going to have all these people in Janesville?" looking for of the papers actually ran an editorial complaining about the law enforcement presence being so scary and  the if a goofball threatening to pull a Tim McVeigh would be no problem.

A nice recap is here, with some new info I had not read before...the FBI seems to be by far the most involved, which tells me they are very concerned about specific threats to...someone or some thing. They have had agents sitting in Paul Ryan's driveway since this began, as well as "others on the property" per reports.

My abortion views almost exactly mirror Tomi Lahren's, so I guess I'll never work for Glenn Beck.

Considering I'm twice her age, more gray than blonde, and not nearly as attractive, I doubt if that problem will ever come to pass.

The irony is, as Glenn Reynolds has pointed out many times, many conservatives feel the "classic" position for those that believe in small government is to be pro choice, at least until the child is viable. I think it's a shame some folks use abortion for birth control, and even worse, abort children for what I would call incredibly selfish reasons ("wrong" gender, mild birth defect, bad time because of career). However, one cannot govern reasons, only acts.

However, part of the reason for the USA map's redness is because of the strange bedfellows coalition (no pun intended) between Libertarians and the social conservatives on the right, and all those in between. Most are fiscal conservatives that have an opinion, but many would gladly vote for a tax and spender, if they would protect the unborn, as many pro lifers are proudly single issue voters (as are many vehement pro choicers).

Bucks opened as a 8.5 point dog, and are now a 13 point underdog, over/under at 213, now at 206.

Almost every line has changed by 5+ points, as teams rest regulars. The Nets are only dressing 9 players and left several of their main cogs at home as well.

Bucks resting 4 players tonight...Giannis, Middleton, Snell, and Delly.

Not sure if the two guards are beat up or if they are just taking the night off...I would assume even the "healthy" players are less than 100% after playing 81 games in 165 days. They said Brogdon will play because he needs to "get back into the flow" of things after missing time with a stiff back.

I'm sure the Cavs are less than thrilled, as they are a game behind the Celtics for the #1 seed, but, they rested players Monday and still won, so you never know. The Bucks actually would probably like to avoid CLE in round two if they could upset ATL in the first round, but do not feel it's worth risking injury and having the 4 play. They did not even travel with the team to BOS.

Jordan Hill will graduate and transfer, being eligible to play his senior season next year.

I had penciled him in as starting in the backcourt with Trice, so this is a tough loss. Gard seems far more open to adding a graduate transfer than Bo Ryan was (Bo only did so when the other program had little interest in keeping the player), so that is a strong possibility.

I assume Hill will look for a lesser program and hope to play 30-35 minutes and launch himself into a pro career in Europe, Asia, or Australia/New Zealand. George Marshall, who left and went to South Dakota State and is now playing pro ball in Holland...probably making high 5 figures or low 6, but, to many, it beats working for a living.

No complaining from the casuals on Broxton scoring from 3B on an infield single. You always see complaints when a runner gets thrown out on that, commonly called "going on contact" or "the contact play."

Usually, the runner on 3B will stay put with no one out, and will try to score with 1 out, though that's a bit of a simplification. Folks seem to think the infielder always makes a perfect pick up and accurate throw, and the catcher always makes a good catch and tag. In reality, if any of those 4 things are less than perfect...grounder is bobbled, throw off target, catcher drops it or misses the tag, the runner scores; while of course, happens at times, as infielders do not throw home nearly as often as they throw to 1B, and they tend to rush a bit.

These are the same people who ignore the shift when it works and complain when it doesn't. Math, my friends, is just an evil hoax.

Perez hit 101 tonight. Has a Brewers' pitcher ever hit 101 before?

Bullpen pitched nicely, but it usually does when it's well rested and the SP goes 6. That's why many teams only bother having 3-4 good relievers and fill the last 2-3 spots with whoever. Bullpen help is easy to pick up at the deadline too.

Surprised to see Shaw DHing and not Braun, even moreso because the game was on turf, which feels like cement. Many players refuse to even consider playing in Toronto because it's so tough on the body.

Villar and Arcia have struggled the most this first week. Villar has hit in bad luck, Arcia has trouble laying off the breaking ball low and/or outside.

Who do you see as the 40th man on the 40 man? Surprised Magnifico was DFA'd instead of a few other choices, such as Rivera, Reed, Lopez, Jungmann, or Houser.

At this second, I would say Goforth. Others on the 25 man, Nieuwenhuis and Milone for example, could be close too, because while they might have some value, their ceiling is just what they are now. The 5 you mention are certainly all in the bottom 10, but Lopez and Jungmann (and Houser, if he gets healthy) have SP ceiling, while Magnifico did not. SP's are worth far more, because they throw 200 innings a year rather than 70. Also, if a SP fails, he can always try being a reliever. If a RP fails, he's looking at job in the real world.

Damien has one skill, and that is he throws really hard. If you have a single skill as a pitcher, that's a great one to possess. However, his breaking ball is pedestrian, and only works because his fastball is 97 mph. If Suter went out there and threw that breaking ball, he'd have topped out in AA.

Not only didn't United do anything wrong, they handled the situation perfectly. Some self important clown was unhappy, and pouted about them overbooking the flight, which is very common in the airline industry. If you do not want to bumped, you should purchase a first class seat. United can deny service to anyone they want, they are a private business. If you do not like United, don't fly United. If you do not want to be dragged off a flight by security, get off your butt and walk off the plane when asked. I am a bit surprised, as I thought someone would give him a 40 man spot and send him to the minors, as he still has an option to use for 2017. Tough time for teams to find a spot, as many teams have 40 man rosters packed with 2-3 utility players/relievers that would not be on a 40 in the offseason...also, have not had much time for players to end up on the 60 day DL either.

These people are looking for plants to sell their milk to. Apparently they are hard to find, leaving farmers with the idea of going out of business--LaCrosse county rep, WI crop report

I talked about this last week, and was surprised other dairy plants were not interested in adding more producers. However, I have to wonder if these are very small or "lower grade" operations that are struggling to find a home.

We always knew Syria likely squirreled away some residual undeclared stocks and/or production capability, now proven by Idlib strike.--Dan Shapiro, Obama's ambassador to Israel.

Emphasis added by me, because it's so damn maddening.

Funny, they kind of forgot to mention that little nugget of info while bragging they had singlehandedly saved the world by agreeing to a meaningless treaty after issuing an empty threat.

Just when you think their foreign policy could not have been worse, we're proven incorrect.

Finally googled how long do you wait before going to the doctor with a GI problem. Pediatrician said 2 days, also that is why Pedialyte says to throw it away after 2 a precaution that it is not being used as medicine. Doc also said that is on the bottle "so you buy more."

Electrolyte water would probably last unopened until the plastic bottle breaks down, but like any uncarbonated beverage, certainly does not "go bad" in 48 hours after breaking the seal.

Plenty of discussion today on Syria, as Trump's subordinates continued the tough talk this morning on the Sunday shows. Two distinct camps on Twitter, one saying to avoid conflict at all costs, the other saying it is long overdue to take care of business.

As is usually the case, there's probably a middle ground there as well, but middle ground is tough to find online. One must remember, we live in an age where the world is extremely small, yet many find an extraordinary ability to ignore atrocity, because they know the only way to stop such heinous acts is to kill the abusers. More than one person has openly wondered if the USA has the stomach for any sort of undertaking that involves more than drones, bombs, and missiles.

As often stated by experts, and repeated by me; you can do a lot of damage from long range, but in order to make any sort of lasting change, you need to hold those gains with troops on the ground. If you take out a bridge, for example, a new one will replace it in a week or month. If you remove a bridge and station a squad or platoon there, it will likely not be rebuilt...if it is, it will be elsewhere, likely at a less strategic location.

So, does it matter if half a million civilians have been killed or allowed to waste away since the infamous red line was crossed and the result was fictional diplomacy and leaving the problem for the next guy? Depends on your point of view. Would the USA react to Hitler's holocaust the same way today as it did then? More than likely, no.

{When one studies WW2 history, one learns that those horrors were either little known or not believed until after the war ended. Many Americans were German immigrants and/or had family still there. Hitler's Germany was a bastion of economic success and his regime was very popular among Germans at least up to and into the war, until it became painful to accept all the destruction the allies inflicted to roads, factories, and the inevitable collateral  damage that is a side effect of perpetual war...something the US has never suffered, except for unprovoked terror style attacks like Pearl Harbor and 9/11, a result of geography and military strength.}

I am not a believer in sitting back and pretending not see a a tumor, toothache, or other medical issue, that almost always leads to a significantly larger quandary at a later date...hence, what we are seeing now in Syria. Is there a magic, easy way out? That entire region is an enigma wrapped in a riddle...ISIS has gained strength and despite assurances they were less viable than a liberal in rural Utah, they continue to do kill, maim, and torture all over the world in the name of...well, your guess is as good as mine.

David Goforth gets the call up, Magnifico DFA'd.

Adam reported the 10 day recall rule starts on Opening Day, not when said player was actually sent down, meaning no player on the 40 could have been brought up (unless someone was DL'd).

As many others have pointed out while I caught up on sleep, they basically exchanged two guys on the 40 that are extremely similar...hard throwers, HR prone, mediocre breaking stuff. I would say Dave has better off speed stuff but does not throw as hard as Damien...Magnifico has hit 100 on the gun numerous times

{Goforth has averaged 93.7, Magnifico 96.7 in the bigs.}

Because of his velocity, I would not think Magnifico would get through waivers, but I said the same thing about Goforth. Damien is younger, however, so again, I would not expect him to clear, but I can hope.

As Stearns said, removing guys from the 40 right now is painful. It's a curse of having a deep, talented system. Two very passable relievers, Blazek and Magnifico, have been DFA'd this week, and it's only would think there would be at least 3-4 more moves made this season involving the 40, and unless older players are dealt or someone is forced to go on the 60 day DL, guys like Yadi Rivera, Mike Reed, Adrian Houser, are all at risk.

The Magic had a couple Bucks on their white board that could have offseason targets on it, Maker and Teletovic.

I don't think Thon is an option, barring the Bucks trading for what they would consider a piece to put them in the top 2-3 in the conference. They were said to have told teams at the deadline they would consider moving anyone except the "young core" of Giannis, Maker, Parker, and Middleton...of course, Jabari had just been injured, so his value was very limited.

Crew sends Brent Suter down to get a fresh arm up.

Folks always wonder why teams go with 8 relievers, because they fail to understand extra innings or short starts do happen. I thought they'd try and get through tomorrow before the day off MON, but, of course, I have no idea if their entire bullpen is healthy either.

I assume it will be Cravy or Magnifico, as Jungmann has to stay down 10 days unless someone is DL'd.

Everyone insists the Bucks clinched a playoff spot with a win tonight, but they have 41 wins, and is they lose out, they will finish with 41. Meanwhile, the Heat have 39 wins, and if they win out, they would have 41 W's, and MIA won the season series 3-1.

I must be missing something.

EDIT: Must be related to the Bulls and Pacers being in the mix as well. CHI, IND, and MIA do not play each other, but CHI/MIA would both have to win out as well, and 3-4 way tiebreakers must be friendlier to the Bucks.

EDIT 2: ATL is still in that general area as well.

I cannot tell you how wonderful it is that, no matter what, you can always count on the left to underestimate the opponent.

As pointed out, at some point, you would think the constant put downs and insults would stop, if for nothing else, to realize than when they call who they lost to a dope and an idiot, they are admitting they are so inept they could not defeat a dope and an idiot despite spending about $1B.

Obama had too many faults to mention here, but he was a brilliant speaker and had a simple yet effective message, even though it was just marketing and message. He also introduced the perpetual campaign, which was unheard of before 2009. His success was based on his ability to have voters separate himself from his policies and failures. That's why he lost 1000+ Dem seats nationwide over his tenure...people said, "Obama, yep, has my support. Those other Dems, nope, need to replace them." As soon as he was off the ballot, the next person lost, because she was hellishly unlikeable in comparison and her ideas were met with a resounding "been there, done that."

Considering we had 26K bombs dropped last calendar year, all without a single congressional vote, without a peep of complaint from the GOP; I will just come out and say it...the Dems agree with the action, but still have to bitch about something. Because, that's what they do.

I would agree if President Trump wanted to send 25K ground troops in to eliminate the regime, he should probably get Congressional approval. However, blowing up a military base, after telling Russia to move troops to make the death toll smaller, that just released chemicals into the air to kill their own citizens, is far from "war," it's just a reminder that they are a cesspool of filth and sand, and the United States of America remains, the only world citizen that does anything except say a prayer and get out of the way so someone who actually cares can take care of the business of ridding the globe of evil.

The United Nations

I'd compare the UN to Neville Chamberlain, but I wouldn't want to offend the memory of Neville Chamberlain, who may have ignored the fate of millions of Jews, was rarely late for afternoon tea, which is one more positive thought than I've had about the do nothing organization in several decades.

Considering Obama, Kerry, and Rice (taking a gander at that trifecta of deceit and ignorance, I've never been so confident I was on the right side) all proudly said, repeatedly mind you, that their brilliant diplomacy had eliminated all of Syria's chemical weapon stockpile (which lefty site Politifact said was "mostly true" until, red faced and like a dude holding a deed on a bridge; they quietly changed it after the death of a plethora of civilians); suffice it to say, I would be shocked if the facts indicated we have been informed of the truth on a single matter involving foreign policy since W left office.

I'm sure the phrase, "The rubes will never find out," was not only a common statement, it may well have been on one of those custom made wooden signs you can purchase at farmer's market or festival; hanging on the wall in their secret lair.

All those times I talked about "kicking the can down the road" was not just me practicing my typing. It was a view into the future that was apparent to anyone not under the spell of "ignoring the problem will make it go away."

Sam emails to say his thought while reading Hillbilly Elegy was "anyone can grow up and be president."

Very true. We tend to blame society and circumstances for the results of people. In reality, if you avoid poor decisions (what did that study's almost impossible to live in poverty if you did not have children before age 23, married or not?), you can overcome a bad start and live the good life relatively easily. After all, it is the USA, and we are still the land of opportunity...some folks just spend their whole life wishing other folks would pay for it so it would be "free" to them.
