(5/25/2017 07:17:00 PM) - Al

It's almost as if the best way to eliminate poverty is to create a better economy for all.

Yes, that is the exact opposite of what the Dems insist works. Just a coincidence.

(5/25/2017 05:04:00 PM) - Al

Writers talking to Counsell about how well Paul Goldshmit hits at Miller Park.

Writer: Did you hit anywhere? Especially?

Counsell: No, I played good defense in a couple stadiums.

(5/25/2017 04:30:00 PM) - Al

She has taught us one thing...no matter how many bad decisions you make, you blame it on an illness or addiction. Them you insist you are awesome except for that little snafu.

PR firms will be learning from this for the next 100 years.

5/25/2017 04:30:00 PM

(5/25/2017 04:10:00 PM) - Al

You realize, in many states and locales, the mere sight of a military uniform would have drawn boos and many college students would have had to have gone to their safe space.

Because they're smarter than us.

5/25/2017 04:10:00 PM

(5/25/2017 03:48:00 PM) - Al

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to figure out how I can ban your guns, but allow my bodyguards to keep theirs.

Because shut up.

5/25/2017 03:48:00 PM

(5/25/2017 03:29:00 PM) - Al

If only someone would have warned them of this, over 5 years ago, and almost daily since. On a public site.

It's working as planned. The only thing that did not happen as expected is Trump won and the left is unable to spin it as the GOP's fault. Daily, the Dems sit there and wonder how they can keep defending a train wreck as it becomes apparent it will die on its own lack of merits. Every day, they are looking for a way out.

5/25/2017 03:29:00 PM

(5/25/2017 03:13:00 PM) - Al

16 new emails in my business account. 14 of them are companies telling me their holiday hours.

While there may be a couple that said they are closing at noon or 1PM Friday because of the holiday weekend, most are simply informing me they will be closed Monday...Memorial Day.

Thanks for the heads up.

Imagine lacking backbone so much that you are swayed by the pro child abuse lobbyist group.

Help me Rhonda.

Two of the Rambling neighbors have spent more time on their lawn the past 2 days than we have in the 15 years we've lived here (except for mowing, of course).

I wish them luck.

The International Space Station is visible many of the next few nights, often several times in many parts of the state and upper Midwest.

Google it my friends.

(5/25/2017 01:00:00 PM) - Al

And Hillary lost white women 52-42.

It's almost as if the barely veiled hatred of conservative females is noticed by the rubes.

5/25/2017 01:00:00 PM

(5/25/2017 12:53:00 PM) - Al

This is pretty much how many of us see the old media these days.

When you get caught crying wolf as often as they have, one tends to start to root for the wolves.

(5/25/2017 12:15:00 PM) - Al

Tough not to like Outnumbered.

Beautiful women that feel just like most of us, and aren't the least bit hesitant to say it.

(5/25/2017 11:40:00 AM) - Al

Some of us fiscal conservatives are wiping a tear from our eyes after hearing this quote.

It's as if we have been transported a kijillion miles in four months.

While we're on the subject, the USA should pay far LESS because of the military might and forces we bring to the table.

5/25/2017 11:40:00 AM

(5/25/2017 11:30:00 AM) - Al

I truly feel sorry for those still defending Obamacare, and even moreso when MK Ham publicly embarrasses them.

It's dead. Insurers lose money by the millions, and are leaving the market. Many argue it's working exactly as planned, as step one to single payer (healthcare as efficient as the DMV).

The strange thing is, why the insistence to insist it's wonderful, as it implodes before their eyes.

5/25/2017 11:30:00 AM

(5/25/2017 11:00:00 AM) - Al

The answer to this is yes.

If the questrion is what should they have done with ISIS years ago, the answer is also yes.

(5/25/2017 10:37:00 AM) - Al

Friend of Ramblings Jason writes to tell me Nevin Ashley was a man among boys when he played in Eau Claire, just like Yost was here.

Ashley got a few games in the bigs with the Crew a couple Septembers ago.

We forget that even the worst in the bigs are really, really good.

5/25/2017 10:37:00 AM

(5/25/2017 10:23:00 AM) - Al

Amen.

Even on Facebook, folks are reluctant to do the "same old thing" of changing their profile pics for a day or two to "show support."

One almost gets the feeling this is a 9/11 on a far smaller scale. In the days following 9/11, when we realized that we had been attacked out of pure envy, for no reason at all, except to kill as many innocents as possible; those calling for "a measured response" were almost nil.

You don't destroy evil with hugs. No one calls an exterminator and asks them to get rid of the unwanted pests by reasoning with them.

Dakota Meyer has the right idea.

5/25/2017 10:23:00 AM

(5/25/2017 05:30:00 AM) - Al

Yep.

Why are all these liberal sites so racist?

It's different when they do it.

Waters is right.

It's almost as if the networks keep stock footage labeled "in case of Islamic terror attack" that they can quickly grab, ignore the bloody aftermath like the previous administration, and smile like the bubble headed bleached blonde in Don Henley's Dirty Laundry song.

Because one side insists terror is awful and the other insists the death of innocents in a violent manner is just part of the peaceful awesome life we all desire. With plenty of immigrants, completely unvetted. Because that's just awful.

(5/24/2017 10:00:00 PM) - Al

My Facebook is full of people that insist 200% does not mean the premium tripled, it means it doubled.

I need to find smarter friends.

UPDATE: I linked to a site explaining what 100% and 200% increases meant. The reply called me Mr. Know It All.

This is why I hate people so.

(5/24/2017 09:25:00 PM) - Al

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened had I become an FBI agent.

1. I would have never passed the physical requirements. I was lighter then, but at some point, my sprained foot would have turned the wrong way again and I'd have had to been "retested" later. It's been 24 years, and I still can't spend more than 2 minutes on a ladder without extreme pain.

2. That said, imagine they would have waived the requirements for me...this kind of thing would have been a daily Al moment. Heck, they probably would start a pool to predict when I was fooled by a line from Bullwinkle's Boris and Natasha.

5/24/2017 09:25:00 PM

(5/24/2017 08:00:00 PM) - Al

Because nothing is free. But if we let the market create a Walmart and Amazon of healthcare, it would be cheap for all working families.--Charles Payne

What a novel idea. The medical lobbies refuse to even consider this. Why?

Right now, a cute short gal married to me has knee surgery; she has no idea how much it will cost until her insurance pays some, and she pays the rest.

Unlisted prices lead to higher costs. Not caring how much something costs leads to higher prices. If we could go to EZSurgery because their price list online was far cheaper than Midwest Surgery Center and Bicycle Repair, we would.

Why do you think lasix treatment has gone down over the last decade, and every other type of health care has skyrocketed?

Because lasix is not covered by insurance.

5/24/2017 08:00:00 PM

(5/24/2017 07:30:00 PM) - Al

Heh. Nothing the elites hate more than celebs not taking the "right" side.

5/24/2017 07:30:00 PM

(5/24/2017 06:00:00 PM) - Al

The Dems proudly keep throwing out the same idea...ignore it, pretend it never happened, and all will be fine.

Well, their vote totals would go up, because right now, they are pacifist weenies on the subject, and folks that work for a living know it.

Howie Carr hit the nail on the head here...read the whole thing.

Money quotes:

Comrade Chris Matthews speaking over a live video feed from the blood-spattered Ariana Grande concert, the live screams of the terrified young girls in the background, as he says with disinterest:

“We’ll get the latest on that in a minute” — more screams — “but first, the shocking news in Washington tonight, the Washington Post reports that — ”

More fake news! But they can’t help themselves, the alt-left media have to stick to the script...

“It must also be noted in the recent months in Europe there have been a number of false flag plots where, uh, right-wing extremists have tried to frame Islamists for terrorism … .”

Stephanopoulos: “This is also likely to inflame anti-Islamic sentiment across Britain, across Europe.”
Martha Raddatz, whose wedding Barack Obama attended, agreed: “It will likely create backlash.”

When they're killing innocents at the pace they are, the terrorists do not need a bit of "help" from extremists. You can pretend it's not Islam terror, you can even not say the words for 8 years while sending them pallets of cash and sucking up to them. At the end of the day, they're still terrorists, and they still need to be taken care of.

By the way, where are all those people now that insisted Obama did not kick the can down the road his entire presidency?

I told you so.

5/24/2017 06:00:00 PM

(5/24/2017 05:30:00 PM) - Al

OK, this proves it. Chelsea's account got hacked months ago, right?

Because no one is this stupid.

5/24/2017 05:30:00 PM

BA talking about the best catcher he ever saw in the minors never making the majors.

Years ago, Ned Yost IV spent a season playing for the Woodchucks, a summer wood bat league in Wausau. I saw him play in 2 games. He was huge, often 6+ inches taller than the batter, and built like a NFL player. He looked like if the team bus broke down, he could lift it to the side of the road and await repair. Never saw a ball he did not block. Every throw to 2B between innings landed on the bag. He would jump up and fake a throw to 1B, and the runner was dive back in full panic.  Once, a runner was sent home with 2 outs, and was out by 10 feet. Yost stood there with the ball in his glove. The runner came to a complete stop and waited politely for the tag. I do not think he felt a collision would yield a positive result.

He was not just good, he was superb.

Never got past A+ ball.

(5/24/2017 02:35:00 PM) - Al

Got up to pee this morning. See squirrel in bird feeder. Open bathroom window, squirrel jumps to deck, bird feeder tumbles to ground.

Late morning now, go in bathroom to pee. Glance down on ground, chipmunk sitting in bird feeder, happily chomping away. Two birds, one on hook that usually holds feeder, one on deck rail, sitting, appear puzzled and unhappy.

There's a movie to be made here, but I'm afraid the title alone would put me right into therapy.

I am so sick of those who insist that ignoring the problem and being sad accomplishes a damn thing. All it accomplishes is pretending that doing nothing is an effective strategy.

(5/24/2017 02:04:00 PM) - Al

Sardinas almost clears waivers.

O's will likely try and slip him through shortly. Building AAA depth. The Dodgers and Blue Jays each did a lot of this last year. It makes sense, but it has yet to yield results for anyone. Acquiring guys that are not good enough to be on anyone else's 40 man just gives you a lot of guys that are correctly placed in AAA.

Sardinas is still plenty young enough to be a nice pickup, however.

5/24/2017 02:04:00 PM

(5/24/2017 01:55:00 PM) - Al

Why they keep reporting fake news.

The truth hurts the cause.

(5/24/2017 12:30:00 PM) - Al

Bookmark this when they tell you Obama did not ignore the military and do all he could to decimate our ability to do anything except make asinine, destructive deals with our enemies.

The only question is if he was truly that simpleminded or if it was his intention to destroy and weaken the greatest fighting force in the history of the planet.

Or, both.

(5/24/2017 10:30:00 AM) - Al

Hold hands and sing folk songs. That is still all they got.

Their hatred of the military leads them to having a world view that is completely out of step with reality. They keep wanting to "compromise" and discuss it with the terrorists.

Warren Zevon had the right idea, he just forgot about ammo. You can attempt to reason with a terrorist, or you can kill them. It ain't a bad thing to destroy evil.

5/24/2017 10:30:00 AM

(5/24/2017 08:30:00 AM) - Al

First, the budget isn’t being cut. Indeed, Trump is proposing that federal spending increase from $4.06 trillion this year to $5.71 trillion in 2027.--Dan Mitchell

I have seen many "sky is falling," "end of the world as we know it" posts already on social media. The author of said posts are either lying, or being misleading. Feel free to mention this. In some cases, they will be angered, but if they are allowed to get away with untruths, it will lead to continued untruths...see "if you want to keep your doctor" followed by "if you want to keep your plan." When we insisted that was not the case, we were called racists. We were right. Stand firm in your beliefs.

In this "gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme" cultural shift, where "someone else" pays and "everything should be free," "cutting the budget" almost always means "not getting as large an increase as we would like."

This is why the debt doubled in 8 years of Obama, despite his best efforts to suck every dollar from those who earned it through "revenue enhancements."

5/24/2017 08:30:00 AM

Haven't heard a whole lot of folks today saying we should welcome those from terror ravaged nations with no background check or worries at all. Because we're just so damn nice.

They said that a lot in the past few months though. We will not forget. The ads will not either. "Just politics" is a tough one to explain when you're talking about dead kids.

Wrong side of history once again. Soon, the rewriting will begin.

ABC incredibly concerned about anti Islam thought after radical Islams kill and injure innocents at concert.

If only they were a fraction as concerned with the anti freedom methods terrorists display.

Brewers "normal lineup" except Perez in CF for Broxton.

Also, Guerra looks like he will return FRI, a move will have to be made, barring injury, Franklin would be the favorite, with one of the bullpen guys as a possibility.

(5/23/2017 05:30:00 PM) - Al

You can't buy this kind of positive marketing.

5/23/2017 05:30:00 PM

(5/23/2017 04:45:00 PM) - Al

I'm still waiting to find a side by side comparison of Obama's and Trump's speeches after a terror attack. Obama all but blamed the victims, asked for understanding and peace, and used several words that many (including small town boys like me) would have to look up, if only we cared enough about what he said.

Trump called them evil losers.

The difference is striking. The elites will look at them and think Trump is a darn dope. Middle America will say "It's about damn time," and feel better about their vote.

The problem for the left? There ain't nearly enough elites.

5/23/2017 04:45:00 PM

(5/23/2017 04:14:00 PM) - Al

The four certainties of USA politics
1. Trump has no chance of winning. Pence, Carson, and Palin are fools for endorsing him.

2. Hillary is not only healthy, but will be the most qualified president ever. And, she is beloved by all.

3. Trump did not really win. It was all Russian hacking. I mean collusion. I mean influence. Proof? No, none at all. What's your point?

4. The GOP is falling apart. The Dems have never been so motivated.

I do not understand why so many folks are hesitant to believe the old media's version of events. And what's this fake news I keep hearing about?

5/23/2017 04:14:00 PM

(5/23/2017 01:58:00 PM) - Al

I was just reading on a message board about 3 weeks ago how badly Corey Ray was doing. Given how only casuals concern themselves with small samples that early, I did not even look at his numbers. Looks like he has overcome any supposed issues, and given he was drafted a year ago and is at A+, appears to be doing fine.

As a high first round pick, he's expected to move "fast," but he does not have to be protected on the 40 until after the 2019 season.

5/23/2017 01:58:00 PM

(5/23/2017 01:52:00 PM) - Al

Sounds like John Hammond might be on his way to Orlando to be their GM, as his former Pistons' buddy was named president.

Bucks seem to not be worried, and rumor has it they will promote from within.

Braun and Thames are both workout warriors. They should focus far more on flexibility and stretching than the weights at their age and length of season.

5/23/2017 01:50:00 PM

(5/23/2017 01:46:00 PM) - Al

Somewhere in the northeast USA, the elite left rolled their eyes and said "This is why Trump won."

The funny thing is, the Rambling son had a 6-8 foot round inflatable pool until he was 7 or 8, and we enjoyed it together for hours all summer. At some point, I even learned how to "shock" the pool and keep it from being green and algae filled. We'd hit a beach ball back and forth, and it would fly out every 30 seconds or so, but before it would hit the ground, the Rambling son would be out running after it.

A tank would be far more sturdy, but they often get holes in them...they are just like an aquarium, they have to be perfectly level or they spring a leak right away, as water is very heavy and puts all the pressure on the lowest point.

5/23/2017 01:46:00 PM

(5/23/2017 11:30:00 AM) - Al

You mean it isn't free?

I hope they do it, it fails (well, that isn't even a question), and they have to come begging to the feds for cash. The federal government informs them to live within their means and figure it out themselves. In the meantime, many Californians "vote with their feet," leading to booming economies in Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and maybe even Colorado. And a bankrupt, failed, well gosh darn, how did that happen Golden state.

We've seen what happened in Detroit, what is currently happening in Chicago, and so on. It's not a debate, it's only a matter of when.

5/23/2017 11:30:00 AM

(5/23/2017 11:00:00 AM) - Al

I am thrilled to see someone finally admit these entitlements, which make up about half the federal budget, are a problem and have to eventually be taken care of.

However, note the hatred and attacks the mere idea of taking less money from those who earned it generates. It's all they got.

5/23/2017 11:00:00 AM

(5/23/2017 09:30:00 AM) - Al

Yep.

They only have negativity. They haven't had a new idea in at least 20 years. Obama only won because of his speaking ability and the fact no one could point out how stupid his slogans were without being called a racist.

Why are they so anti everything? No alternative means you either stay silent or complain.

5/23/2017 09:30:00 AM

(5/23/2017 08:00:00 AM) - Al

Well, they have no sense of humor.

Ignorant folks aren't gifted in some ways and lacking in others. They are often deficient in every single area.

5/23/2017 08:00:00 AM

(5/23/2017 06:30:00 AM) - Al

Amen.

Nothing is more cowardly than these random acts of terror, designed to maim, kill, or injure whoever happens to be in the vicinity. You are never going to reason with or appease terrorist cowards.

Mike Moore said years ago fighting such attacks are just a waste of time, because there will always be losers with a ideology that feel they will be martyrs for eternity. He was partially correct, there will always be terror attacks.

Cowards tend to sour quickly when they see cohorts and buddies getting thrown in prison and shot through the head. Some will be shot, some will be captured. The harder you go after them, and the more freedom you give law enforcement and the military, the more will slink away, as they are timid, meek, and fearful by nature. When the going gets tough, they act a lot like the Occupy losers and other "protesters" in the USA...when you're out camping, doing drugs, and assaulting coeds, it's easy to "believe in your cause." When the weather turns mildly uncomfortable, the fun lessens considerably...even moreso when painful death is a high probability. The only difference is, one tries to create havoc, one tries to execute trusting souls.

One dead terrorist saves scores of innocents. It also frees the good guys to move onto to the next one, and is a huge deterrent to the wannabees. Not to mention, being aggressive is always far better than sitting back and justifying the dead by insisting "well, more people die in bathtub falls than from terrorism."

There's a reason that leading from behind BS looks an awful lot like not giving a damn.

5/23/2017 06:30:00 AM

(5/23/2017 02:30:00 AM) - Al

Because their war on white men worked out perfectly.

I just had someone on Facebook a week or two ago argue with someone that white women voted for Trump. Her response?

"You can't believe CNN! They are right wing."

When the next dozen people laughed and asked if CNN was right, which outlets were left?

Her response? "I need to clean out my friends list."

Heh.

5/23/2017 02:30:00 AM

(5/23/2017 01:00:00 AM) - Al

(5/22/2017 07:59:00 PM) - Al

Brewers will make a decision with Blazek soon. He has a 2.53 ERA in a tough pitcher's park and is striking out just short of a batter an inning, while only allowing 1 HR in 21 frames.

His walks are high, but many pitchers start nibbling when at altitude. If Blazek was still on the 40, it'd be tough luck for him, as teams don't "owe" players on the 40 anything. But, he's not, and he's 28...Stearns won't let him sit down at AAA as a nonroster player if he has multiple teams interested in him to pitch in the majors. His peripherals are not as good as Espino's, not even close, but his end results considering his home park are outstanding.

5/22/2017 07:59:00 PM

Not only is it unusual for a journalist to admit they were wrong (he's not old media), the fact Trump opened up China to US beef (in a few months mind you) is great for those who raise cattle.

We buy most of ours from the Rambling in laws, but don't get over to their place often enough. We also buy frozen ground beef patties from Aldi and Wal Mart for the grill, because they are really good and do not fall apart.

I googled up beef futures and found this chart, which shows beef is up 0.5-3% since they opened this morning.

Just for asking. Or, looking at it another way, why didn't anyone ask before?

(5/22/2017 03:00:00 PM) - Al

I forget who said it, but one of the guys on Outnumbered last week summed it up perfectly:

If President Trump cures cancer this week, they'd say, yeah, what did he do last week?

Pull a Governor Walker, hold your head up, and keep fighting. Negative people are gonna be negative. The hell with them. Don't worry about them making stuff up...they're making stuff up because they know they're losing. Being called Hitler is a compliment...that's all they got.

Never forget, Republicans opposed Obamacare because they knew it wouldn't work. Dems oppose Trump's tax cuts because they know they will work. Same reason Dems loudly opposed Act 10. If they wanted to be fiscally responsible and let people keep the money they earn, they would not be on the left.

5/22/2017 03:00:00 PM

(5/22/2017 02:00:00 PM) - Al

We also have way too many car lots, sandwich shops, and excuses to take money away from the person who earned it.

But he's right...churches are dropping like flies, because they refuse to imitate the successful ones.

By the way, new churches would be far more successful if they stopped trying to go after the "unchurched" but those that are not completely happy with their current church.

Why? Think about it. You started a movie theater. Who do you try and get to patronize your theater?

1. Those that never go to movies.

2. Those that go to movies regularly.

If you go after #1, I wish you lots of luck. The Rambling parents never went to a movie the last 40 years of their life. They had no interest. They were perfectly happy not going to the movie theater.

Most people that do not go to church are perfectly happy not going to church. The fact people think they are unhappy, or the fact some people think they should go to church are probably much or all of the reason they don't go to church.

The folks to go after are the ones who go to movies, but are not completely happy with the experience. I know I say this often, but you know who does this? Successful, growing churches. The others? Doing the same stuff that made them unsuccessful and stagnant. Doubling down.

Next time, I'm telling you, it'll work.

I am far from a political expert, but I have been right often in the past 8 years...of course, I just predicted Obama's course of action would be devastating to the Dems and the economy.

That said, watching from afar, nowhere near the northeast USA, being a Midwestern boy, not part of the beltway elite, this past weekend has the potential to be one of the best for Republicans in ages.

1. Trump is still not President Hillary.

2. Pence spoke to a bunch of spoiled millennials at Notre Dame and about 100 of the 2000 graduates got up and left, because they are such incredible wimps they cannot even stand to hear an opinion that differs from their own about anything. This display was called "heroic" and "the resistance" by many in the old media. How will it play in Peoria?

Buncha rich snowflakes walked out on the vice president? The hell with them. Good luck with that first job wussy boys and girls.

3. The left will proudly look at this and insist the sky is falling. Most moderates and independents will look at this and insist it's a good start, and that next time, they should get serious about cutting them.

{For those keeping score, since Election Day, when a hated candidate ran a horrible campaign and lost to a very beatable candidate, this is the 11,475th time we have experienced the end of the world as we know it.

The irony is that we all feel fine.}

4. What the old media claimed the tea party was, the Dems have become.

That's the most accurate summary of the hypocrisy of the left that I have ever read.

Chanting profanities against the president? Burning American flags? Public threats of violence toward politicians?

Our president actually said the word "terrorism." Can you imagine? I think this is a classic case of twisting the numbers to prove a point you want to prove.

K's are a negative, but a very tiny one. And, they're being dishonest as far as results.

APR--9.7K per game, 5.4 runs a game.
MAY--8.6K per game, 5.4 runs a game.

At first glance, any improvement is microscopic. And, let's not forget, Thames, Shaw, and Braun have missed time in May. That could well be the reason for fewer K's, as their PA's have mostly been taken by guys who aren't as good, but K less.  Some pitchers do not miss bats as much either, but that would involve far more research than I care to invest.

(5/20/2017 09:05:00 PM) - Al

As is the case with Arizona, Milwaukee has easily outperformed expectations thus far. The Brewers entered Saturday having posted the same record as Arizona (25-18, with a plus-34 run differential), and their success is a “potential nightmare” for general manager David Stearns, one executive told Rosenthal. It’s doubtful Stearns believes the franchise’s rebuild is complete, yet owner Mark Attanasio might push to add, not subtract, if Milwaukee hangs around the playoff race in the coming months, per Rosenthal. To their credit, the first-place Brewers currently rank among the majors’ top 10 teams in runs scored (second), wRC+ (eighth) and pitching fWAR (eighth).--MLBTR

I don't think Rosenthal or the other executive understands "nightmare," to say the least. If Stearns feels the team's success is a fluke, he can just continue to build as he has been. If the roster and winning percentage were the same as it is now and the date was AUG 20th, the most obvious additions would be a 2-3 bullpen pieces (a loogy for sure), a bench bat with some pop, and maybe a spot starter/long man. That would cost them nothing of merit, certainly no top 30 pieces in the organization. Or, they could easily just deal guys like Jungmann, Rivera, and Aguilar, players who are out of options anyway. If they would pick up a RH hitting 1B/LF/RF for example, Aguilar would be a duplicate.

As Stearns said a month ago, trimming the 40 man is already damaging, as every time a move is made, it seems, that player is claimed. Next season, they will have 6-7 more youngsters that have to be added. Sure, they'll have a few FA's contracts expire, but those scenarios have already been gone over.

You never hear a crack dealer saying "What am I gonna do with all this crack?" --Chris Rock

Much of the media acts like nothing has ever been planned for. I promise you, there's a list or spreadsheet or some document with a 2018 40 man roster and a 2019 40 man roster. When they traded Jeffress and Lucroy, they happily accepted a couple players who had to be protected on the 40 before the 2017. When they traded for Shaw, they knew they had to have additional kids who did not have to be protected. It doesn't take much to figure out the Crew has far more OF's in the system than they will ever use in MIL. Some of them will wash out and some will be traded. There's no such thing as too much talent.

I'm not 100% sure how MLB salary works, but I do know players are credited with "days of service," not games. I assume Espino will receive 2 days (FRI/SAT) but Cravy will receive 3 days (SAT-MON) for just a single game (SUN).

He may well stay up longer, but Cravy could not have wished for a better situation service time and pay wise.

If you google up Cubs' game or Cubs' weather (for some reason, it will not link), many complaints from Cubs' fans about why the game was postponed today. It rained 0.13 inches in Chicago today, and was far warmer than yesterday, low 60's all day. They are saying the game was postponed because the Cubs' bullpen is in such bad shape and they were afraid to have delays.

At best, it would appear some gamesmanship was involved, as the makeup date is right before the all star break, so they can play some roster games at that time to have extra pitching on hand.

With the off day MON, the Crew could choose to do any of several things, though the weather looks near perfect for tomorrow. Adam reported the Cubs did not want to play a split doubleheader tomorrow because they could not have broadcast the late game (ESPN exclusivity), so they chose to reschedule it on a THU afternoon in JUL...thousands of fans who paid $40-200 for tickets on a SAT in May will either be unable to attend or have a very tough time doing so.

The Cubs might as well just announce the game was rescheduled because they don't give a monkey's crap about their fans and simply do not want to refund any TV money.

(5/20/2017 07:16:00 PM) - Al

BUMPED, update near bottom.

Espino down, Cravy up.

It's a puzzler why this did not happen yesterday after the game. I am surprised they didn't have Paolo and Tyler fly in together on THU with this in mind. Paolo was not going to pitch today or tomorrow regardless. What if they would have played 22 innings today with 3 rain delays?

By the way, Cravy thinks it is unfair Espino only got 1 start...

ADDED: Adam reports Cravy may have been available for today's game, as the team usually waits until the player "physically arrives" in the city before announcing it.

That makes more sense. I'm certainly not more alert on roster construction that the braintrust.

I was hoping Adams would end up in MIL last offseason before they signed Thames. He hits RHP almost as well as any 1B in the game. He did so well with SL until they started nitpicking on him. He's the perfect case of a guy who does the big things well and the little things not so much. By going to ATL, he'll almost certainly be available next offseason as well.

Brewers rained out today, game will be made up July 6th, a THU, at 1:15.

Brewers finish a 3 game series with BAL at Miller Park WED night 7/5, play in Chicago THU, and then fly to NY to play a 3 game series before the all star break.

5/20/2017 12:30:00 PM

(5/20/2017 10:00:00 AM) - Al

I found it odd no Brewers were mentioned, and then it occurred to me...they won't be sellers if they continue to win at this pace.

Of course, we do not know if they will. Also, Billy Beane made some trades even when his teams were in the winning part of the success cycle...he would say he could not afford to let a veteran player leave for nothing, and the youngsters he received helped him fill the gaps when he lost the vets.

When you looked closely though, he always dealt from depth, and often traded relief pitchers and bench bats...players other teams tended to overvalue at the time far more than today.

Billy Beane had a lot more success before he had 29 other Billy Beane types as his peers.

I can understand wanting to give your kids something to do in the summer, but giving them 14 hours of activities a day? Pathetic. Kids should have plenty of time to be kids; whether than means reading, biking, mowing lawns for spending money, whatever.

About five years ago, we asked the Rambling son what he did one June day. The Rambling wife and I were both working full time, and other than occasional swimming trips or bike rides with the neighbor kid his age, and a week at his grandparents, he was on his own. He said he had decided he was going to teach himself how to code. We kind of scoffed at him, asking what he would do when he got stuck. He said he already had been a couple times, but just googled it until he figured it out. Sure enough, while he is not a master, he knows how to code better than almost anyone who is not in IT or has taken actual coding classes.

(5/19/2017 09:02:00 PM) - Al

Braun eligible to come off DL SUN, but I would assume the Crew will take advantage of the off day MON before activating him TUE. Giving him an extra couple days and avoiding him playing LF on a wet track seems wise.

No word tonight about replacing Espino, though I assume he'd be unavailable until at least TUE, so keeping him around seems like an odd choice. Bringing up someone for the rest of the Cubs series, then replacing that player with Braun, and then activating Guerra before his scheduled start on THU would be the best way to maximize the active roster.

One would think Espino and Franklin would be the bottom men on the totem pole, though as I have pointed out, Franklin long term is better than Sogard long term in my opinion. I believe I read Eric still has an option remaining, so when/if he cools off, he can go down this season...he was not on the 40 and was on a minor league deal this year, so he has not used one yet in 2017.

If they stay in contention, losing Franklin is just one of those things. However, if they go back to where we expected, it's a shame to lose him.

(5/19/2017 08:38:00 PM) - Al

The offense keeps getting the attention, and at 2nd in runs scored in the NL, it should. However, 5th in runs allowed is impressive too.

Considering 5 teams make the playoffs, 2nd and 5th is almost certainly good enough to be in contention and usually make it. While I doubt they will stay at those levels; their ability to withstand injures to Braun, Shaw, and Thames, plus a longer stretch by Guerra, is pretty impressive.

Jhan Marinez claimed by Pirates. Won't find out if he has right to be a FA or not.

If it was 10-2, we'd probably see Peralta on the mound when the game resumes. Assuming Scahill will not return, we might well see an inning at a time guys; though one could wonder if Barnes and Knebel are available...both have been worked heavily of late...I think Jacob has pitched 5 of 6 days and Corey 4 of 5 (though I could be wrong, I did not look it up).

I'd like someone to explain to me why they allowed play to continue for an inning or two with standing puddles on the infield and pouring rain.

Embarrassing.

If Schwarber catches that ball, you know they're still playing too.

Weather Underground has the rain ending between 4:30 and 5 with very little rain accumulation to come. Probably be good to go by 5:30 or so, maybe even earlier...with the prerequisite "unless a storm develops out of nowhere."

Forgot to mention Brent Suter was sent down to make room for Espino.

Espino takes the final spot on the 40 and 25 man. I would think there is a very, very good chance Espino will return to Colorado Springs after the game and be replaced with a bench player or reliever, likely depending on how good of shape the pen is in after this contest.

No word yet if Tyler Cravy was unhappy that Suter was called up and did not get a chance to pitch.

Just like those Wausau folks a few years ago that allowed their child to die of a very treatable ailment because they "believed they knew better" than modern medicine...because stupidity has no limit.

As Jeff Foxworthy correctly pointed out a decade ago, if you did that to your dog, you would be arrested and charged, and deservedly so. The idea we've allowed ourselves to make so many excuses for irresponsibility and despicable behavior has made us far worse off and instead of looking for the gray area, we study the gray until our eyes get blurry, and we see gray everywhere.

The idea these buffoons will probably do less time than someone knowingly writing a few bad checks is a disgrace and an embarrassment.

This is why I shed no tears for those who insist their loved one's sentencing was "unfair" or "too long." If it were up to me, that time in a tiny concrete box would be so lengthy that they'd only have vague memories of a gigantic star that heats the planet. The hell with them.

Funny, not a one has seemed a bit concerned about the country or markets. Drudge mentioned yesterday Soros has been short in US stocks for months...it's almost as if he WANTS things to tank by pushing out hyperbole and gossip...if we did not know what a patriot he is, of course.

Anyone wondering why players fight so hard to get a non roster invite to spring training or will accept a 40 man spot instead of a sizable signing bonus on a minor league deal?

Eric Sogard.

Sometimes, a couple dozen PA's can make all the difference in the world. Even if he's DFA'd or optioned back to the minors, he's garnered so much attention for his hot streak, teams are far more likely to consider him if they need an upgrade to the middle infield or a utility role.

The concept of rounding does not exist in that world.

That may be why I'm often surprised by Fangraphs "average velocity." We are seeing that as 99, when the pitch is 99.0-99.9. In other words, we are seeing the minimum, which over time, will likely average out about 0.5 mph higher than our minds are thinking.

Knebel reminded me of Axford today...no one could hit him, but he walked enough to make it tense. Broke off a curve 3-2, that's an Axford thing too.

I assume Espino is already in Chicago, though he'll probably have trouble getting a good night's sleep anyway. Rest of the team will probably get in about mididnight for the 1:20 start tomorrow. I'd say the Cubs planned it that way, but I know they always play FRI/SAT/SUN day games..,not to say that is not beneficial to them though, as they are used to that and other clubs only do it once a year.

I read years ago the Rangers won about 2/3rd's of their SUN night games over the years too, probably for the same reason...before ESPN's SUN night package, no one played SUN nights except in Arlington.

The main thing Ailes did is the one thing the left will never forgive him for...he made us realize how biased and fictional the other networks were.

Many of us never even noticed until we had an option to compare them to. And, many have never went back.

(5/18/2017 02:00:00 PM) - Al

Al,

I don't want to jinx it, but you were not only the first, but the only person I have seen who said Espino was more than filler. I glanced at his minor league stats this morning and could not believe how solid and consistent he's been, for his entire career. Estrada went from a journeyman minor leaguer to a decent bullpen piece to a rotation member to a guy making $14 million a year.

Matt

Nothing gets you space quicker than insisting I'm not as dumb as folks say. I'm still grumpy that when I spoke to Justin on WTMJ, he had mentioned talking about breakout candidates. I put down 3 names...Santana, Knebel, and Espino. He asked about Broxton and Santana, we discussed Knebel, and then we moved onto the next topic.

Espino is a victim of a bias against average velocity and sub 6 foot RH SP's. That stereotype is there for a reason...there are very few successful pitchers of either ilk, never mind both. Estrada had one plus pitch, his change up. Espino has one, a devastating curve, which, almost miraculously, has even been effective at altitude in Colorado Springs. Looking forward to seeing what he can do, even if it is just a single start.

He has parts of 8 seasons in AAA, and has a career 3.54 ERA with a 4.5-1 K/BB. If he was 6-3 and his fastball averaged 94 instead of 89, he'd have received his chance a half decade ago.

It's tough for me not to see his height and one very good pitch and not see a future as a reliever. He gets both lefties and righties out almost evenly. However, best of luck to him versus a loaded Cubs' lineup tomorrow.

You're lucky to find 1 of 10 items on Amazon that are cheaper than Wal Mart, and if they are, it's pennies. Meanwhile, WM is $1-5 cheaper on most staples, though you either have to order $35 to get free shipping or pick it up at the store. We always have an order open and just click "check out" when we hit $35.

Amazon Prime, however, is $99 a year, though you do get their streaming content too.

For those keeping track, the sky is falling moment from about 72 hours has now become a near laughable farce. The "classified info" was in the NY Times on numerous occasions in the weeks prior.

Luckily, we've moved on to the next moment, which was best summed up by retired law professor Ann Althouse:

But let's assume the memo exists and says what you read quoted in the post title. How bad is it to say Flynn is a "good guy" and to express "hope" about the outcome?

{snip due to length}

The asking is at most only implicit in what is a declarative statement: "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go." That's just Trump revealing what he hopes for. There's no question at all, let alone any pressure or threat.

The bolded is Ann's, not mine.

I realize I'm a bit of as simpleton, but I have no patience for any type of bad behavior or lack of ethics from elected American leaders. Ask me how I feel about sending billions in cash to a terror sponsoring, evil, we'd be better off if the hellhole of Iran simply imploded one day, for example, despite the fact paying for hostages is unethical, illegal, and really, really stupid. Heck, I manage to work it into totally unrelated rants.

{Check.}

The fact is, we have a  lot of accusations. Tomorrow, we'll probably have more.

That said, as of yet at least, there's no meat on the bone, even from made up anonymous sources. It is difficult for me not to compare this to Governor Walker's recall, and the months leading up to it. His opponents lied, fibbed, and misled. They pretended their dislike for his proposals and fiscal sanity somehow equaled legal problems for him. We heard, over and over, a "bombshell" was soon to come as to ethics violations. Heck, we still do.

We're still waiting. And, by the way, Walker's agenda, his conservative agenda, his fiscally responsible agenda; worked. And it's still working. Not a single one of the "end of the world as we know it" scenarios have come true. And while CA and IL suffer from incredibly shortsighted, but very predictable shortfalls from their tax and spend economic "plan"...WI has not.

We had a new roof put on last week. As part of the redo, we had them put up rain gutters, which we never had before. Since then, it's rained about 3 inches, and we have yet to hear the sump pump run. Also, we have a large puddle in the backyard that we have had before in the spring when all the snow melts, but never any other time.

I guess that water which in the past would have gone into the rocks around the house and some would eventually settle into the pit and drain before being sent out by the sump pump...3 inches of rain onto 1000 square feet of roof space equals 1870 gallons of water, per Google. That's an astounding amount in just a few days.

5/18/2017 10:42:00 AM

(5/18/2017 10:23:00 AM) - Al

About midnight last evening, I heard a noise out on the deck. I assumed the wind had knocked something down or loose, as we had rain, wind, and the like all day yesterday.

I waited until the half inning was over, walked over, turned on the light...a raccoon was staring back at me, having knocked the suet hook and holder down. He was just a little guy, but was as unscared of me as any animal. I keep a plastic cup of water on the counter to throw at squirrels and chipmunks who are eating sunflower seeds from the feeder, so I grabbed it and went to throw it, but I did not want to open the door and have the little fella run into the house in confusion and have a Xmas Vacation type moment. I waited for him to start down the steps before opening the door and threw it in the general vicinity, as it was too dark to see anything. I saw about 3/4th of the suet block sitting there, and I thought I'd get it later, hoping the deck would dry off a bit.

This morning, no suet left. I can only imagine the symptoms he's going through today, being a 10 pounds and having eaten a pound of pure fat. It ain't pretty, I'm sure.

Peralta to bullpen. Will be ready to pitch FRI. No announcement on rotation spot until THU or FRI.

That said, very likely to be Espino. One would assume Suter may get work if games are not close.

5/17/2017 08:07:00 PM

(5/17/2017 06:04:00 PM) - Al

Much of the speculation on Espino involves Peralta. Wily has 4 years of service time, but 5 is needed to refuse a minor league assignment. Wily's choices (if I am reading this correctly) would be to be a FA (and give up his guaranteed money) or agree to be outrighted and continue on his current contract.

This is assuming he clears waivers, as a claiming team would take over his  contract.

Of course, there could be another pitcher that is not 100% and the team is "saving" Espino in case they need him, as wins and losses in the minors are meaningless.

I don't have any skin in the game, but a year or two ago, I discovered Weather Underground, a peer based service that uses info from local, personal weather stations and combines it with the National Weather Service info which is free to all to utilize. The nicest thing about WU is two features:

1. They provide an hourly forecast for 10 days ahead.

2. They also predict how much precipitation, as opposed to the generic "chance of rain tomorrow," which might mean a light shower or a day long deluge.

He's 25, so he's not a baby anymore, but he has nice versatility and guys that don't get out 40% of the time in the pitcher friendly International League are few and far between. He might still be highly thought of and his demotion is just a temporary thing, but it never hurts to ask.

I am certainly not an expert on classified intel, but imagine W flying around after 9/11, going from one military base to another, chatting with the leaders of France, Great Britain, Japan, and so on; and saying "I can't share anything with you. Why? Well, because I might offend who told me. Are your citizens in danger? Maybe. Sorry, can't share."

Open spot on the 40 for the time being. Marinez throws plenty hard, so time will tell if he is claimed. Not sure if he's ever been outrighted or not, so not sure if he can become a FA if he passes through waivers.

I was just thinking this morning, of that season when Trevor Hoffman was so bad the Brewers called up Axford to close and Hoffman all but disappeared for a couple weeks, supposedly "working on his delivery" in private. When he returned, he was pretty much back to his old self (scroll down for monthly splits), but continued pitching in the 8th and 9th innings in a set up/mop up role, until AUG/SEP when he got his 600th and 601st career saves.

At some point, it leaked out Hoffman had been pitching through an injury early and had struggled with his command, especially with his patented change up.

Years ago, a fantasy expert wrote whenever you see a dramatic decline in production from a veteran with a proven track record, it's almost always due to injury. His suggestion was to claim player and simply bench them until they returned to past production levels. He said the 4 steps were almost always the same:

1. Written off as a "slump."

2. Rumors he is washed up, or going through some sort of personal crisis. Fans insist player who has been very good for several seasons and making/owed millions of dollars simply be released.

3. Player goes on disabled list. Fans insist player is not really injured. Team insist injury is very minor.

4. Player returns, usually after longer DL stay than expected. While it often takes a week or two, player returns to similar production as in years past. By end of season, many fans will not even recall injury or struggles.

I was thinking of this with regards to Neftali Feliz, but it also applies to Chapman. As Schroeder said last night, it seemed like a perfect game to put Feliz in, even just to face a hitter or two, and then let Scahill or Barnes or whoever finish the inning(s). The fact he did not appear makes me think he is probably injured and undergoing treatment.

But I've been told by many Dems we no longer have to spend money on defense, because they want to spend it on free stuff for themselves.

Why do they spend some much money on ammo? Because there's plenty of pure evil that needs killin'.

(5/13/2017 03:00:00 PM) - Al

As I have pointed out many times, the most shameful part of the Obama lunch menu is not the high cost, tons of waste, or even the off the charts righteousness of it. Look how tiny the servings are, especially the proteins. One ounce of turkey on a sub? That's close to a starvation diet, very low on calories and very high on carbs.

{And that's coming from a guy who's been eating 800-1500 calories a day for 3 months. I know hunger.}

It uses nutrition info that's 50+ years old. All the popular diets since the 90's are light on carbs and heavy on lean proteins. Obamacare was not passed for health care, it was passed to gain control of the economy and get the pawns used to deferring to government. This is the same thing. It's meant to be politically correct and not meant to make children happy, full, or anything else. It should have been called the "we know better, you stupid rubes" lunch program.

Look, I'm 48 years old, and without using Google, I have no clue what "jicama" is. None.

ADDED: To save you time, jicama is a Mexican turnip, which means not only is it nothing but a disgusting vegetable, it's also racist.

Don't forget, the left does not think anything of saying with a straight face the two biggest problems today are childhood obesity and childhood hunger. When I point out the hypocrisy of that, I am always met with the same reply.

Because shut up.

Free market capitalism has made us so wealthy, even the poor people are fat. Venezuela dreams of such troubles.

(5/13/2017 01:41:00 PM) - Al

Consider this fact, even though you know some people after named their kid AFTER Caitlyn Jenner, because of her "bravery" and "courage." This also explains the exact moment ESPN jumped the shark into irrelevancy.

The same thing happened with Hillary back in the 90's, of course, and while the left insists she's loved and admired by all, she ain't.

I'm not saying they're out of touch...but the results are. Remember Meghan McCain's friends, insisting the 3 biggest issues were abortion, climate change, and LGBT rights? To most of the country, none of them are in the top 10-20, never mind top 3. The country takes one look at the women wearing lady part hats and thinks they are a group of single issue fools they refuse to be associated with.

But please, don't change a thing. In fact, it's all Russia. Next time, you'll win easy.

After all, there's no way Walker will ever win his recall, never mind a 3rd election. He has no chance. Neither does Trump.

As Friedman said, if you put the government in charge of the desert, in 10 years, there would be a shortage of sand.

Why does it cost more to build "affordable" housing than it does a mansion? Because the government is in charge.

But don't worry, with health care, they'll be as efficient as the DMV!

Brewers really have several relievers now for lower leverage situations...Feliz, Marinez, and Barnes working his way down the chart too.

Knebel, Torres, Drake, Hughes, with Scahill somewhere in the middle.

It was almost certain in my mind that Espino would be the next non roster player added to the 40 he pitched 5 shutout frames tonight at altitude, 2.54 ERA, 5 walks, 39 K's).

Didn't see Sogard happening. Surprised to see them fill the 40 man, though they can always drop someone if they see someone they want to claim.

Avocados are one of those things people insist are hellishly popular, like kale and baked sweet potatoes. The problem? They're not.

Meanwhile, no one ever writes an article about steak, shrimp, heavily buttered potatoes, or pizza. Amazingly, those things continue to sell despite this.

It's almost like some folks have an ulterior motive.

I get a Twin Cities City Pages email sent to me every week. Their "food critic" is as transparent as they come, always writing up the "new most popular happening spots" when in reality, they are just friends of hers. They are inevitably followed in a few weeks or months by the "it's a shame they went out of business, but it was due to high rent or too small of a seating area" obituary, insisting they'll be back soon and better than ever. Recently, one of my favorite articles ever was printed, "Why Restaurants Closing Is Not A Bad Thing." She talked to chefs, owners, and foodies who insisted restaurants often closed as a "natural evolution" of things. Owners would decide to move to Chicago or elsewhere. They'd just get "burnt out" of running a successful, profitable establishment.

{What's wrong Fred?

My hands keep cramping up from counting mountains of cash! I'm also going to have to purchase more of those burlap bags with dollar signs on the outside. I guess I'm on success overload.}

She also pointed out that every time a place closes, wait for it, it creates a new possible home for a new startup! How exciting.

I read the whole thing, stopping a couple times to make sure it wasn't April Fools or a parody/satire. When I got to the comments, the first two were by cooks who were both owed salary by closed restaurants, including one she had just written about. Both pointed out a simple fact...successful places do not close, they get sold. A place "closing" pretty much always means it was losing money and simply ran out of cash. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, 6 of 7 small businesses fail, and restaurants are notoriously tough to get off the ground, as start up costs are high, margin is low, and it is tough competing against franchises, consumer habits, and proven winning formulas.

The fictional self importance of these glorified sports guys is simply off the charts. They simply don't get it.

1 .Fans want to see scores and highlights.

2. ESPN wants to talk about their liberal viewpoints. They tried to make Kaepernick a hero, completely missing the fact he was despised by all but the extreme left.

3. ESPN's ratings are in a freefall.

Those facts are not coincidental. The longer they deny them, the more problems they will have in the future. They fired lots of people, and the ones remaining act as if it's a complete mystery as to why that happened.

Denial ain't just a river.

(5/12/2017 03:03:00 PM) - Al

Eric Sogard added to the 40 and 25 man rosters. Sogard is a 2B, and has played SS and 3B as well. Sogard hits LH, and hits RHP quite a bit better than LHP, though he is not nearly an automatic out versus lefties like Nieuwenhuis basically was.

He has never played OF in a real major or minor league game, though he may have this past spring.  If he is able to do that, he may have a better chance of sticking around for more than a couple weeks.

I should also note Sogard is a plus defensive 2B and 3B, while being slightly below average at SS.  This probably means Perez will play LF 4-5 games a week, while Franklin picks up occasional PA's in LF/RF, and maybe at 2B/3B

I love the fact Devos got booed and it was so embarrassing that the university president had to step in and chide the students. It's too bad for Devos, who handled it with dignity and class, but it was good for the cause.

Considering school choice benefits mostly poor urban kids stuck in crappy districts, the idea students at a historically black college disliking the concept shows their ignorance better than my words ever could. Spoiled, privileged college students are going to act like spoiled, privileged college students. Meanwhile, hard working Americans shake their head and look for ways to not be associated with such nincompoops.

5/12/2017 10:00:00 AM

(5/12/2017 09:05:00 AM) - Al

Counsell said Feliz simply is not sharp at the moment. He has two big issues, walks and home runs, and as the Beane count has shown, those two stats alone are a good sign of effectiveness. Both are directly related to his lack of being able hit his spots. His velocity is actually up from last year (96.7-96.1), but 97 down the middle is not as effective as 95 on a corner.

Of course, casuals forget what a tiny sample 16 innings is. Almost every pitcher on the staff, except possibly Anderson and Knebel, have had their rough outings. Greinke and Chapman have had crappy outings. Guys get paid a lot of money to hit these guys, and sometimes they do.

(5/11/2017 06:54:00 PM) - Al

As I have pointed out before, it's probably still too early for many of Trump's economic policies to have had much of a real impact. However, his constant positive attitude, America first talk, and insistence that many industries Obama took pride in running into the ground, like coal, manufacturing big heavy metal stuff that looked dirty, sweaty, and icky, and so on; have spurred many companies to either delay lay offs or increase seasonal hiring (FYI, Reagan was president in 1988...just coincidence, I'm sure).

The apology tours are over. The days of being proud to be a capitalist have returned. While the effect may be exaggerated, nothing hurts more than constant negativity. It's exhausting and accomplishes nothing.

(5/11/2017 06:40:00 PM) - Al

Braun probably headed to DL, per JS. Ryan admits he can't really run or throw, which is a bit of a hindrance to an effective baseball resume.

If it wasn't, damn near all of us could be a big leaguer.

With Perez's versatility (and in a lesser sense, Franklin and Thames), one could argue for almost any position player, as even without adding anyone, they have 3+ people able to play every position except catcher. However, the odds on pick would have to be Lewis Brinson, who would probably play LF about half the time, though Phillips, Cordell, and Rivera may also be considered.

I asked the pretty woman who picks up all the nails and stuff as they get thrown down if I could throw our old deck screen door into the dump truck full of old shingles and lining. I carried it out (it's been under the deck for about 5 years...we're just a few hound dogs and auto carcasses without tires on cement blocks from being rednecks)  and set it on the lawn next to the truck, and as I was doing so, I heard the guys talking that only had one more box of lining left. Sure enough, one of them just got back. The truck that brought the shingles must not have had enough lining on it.

That might be the first time anyone has ever had to use algebra since leaving high school.

In this story question, I guess X=3 more boxes.

In the future, it may be difficult to find anyone who does not feel the Russian accusations were not just a play action pass so no one would notice the actual illegal activity was the administration's penchant for spying on American citizens.

I admit, the funniest thing was how anyone with a 3rd grade education noticed how clumsily the supposedly ultra cool and suave Obama worded his "denial" so he would not end up having to take the 5th later.

"I did not order it," is just like saying "I knew about it and didn't think we'd get caught." The irony is, anyone who is not in the old media pointed this out within seconds.
