Al's Ramblings

(8/31/2017 11:47:00 PM) - Al

Astros trade 3 good prospects for Verlander, supposedly approved by JV with a minute to spare.

I like the idea, as HOU is trading to improve their playoff chances, not make the playoffs, something I have long advocated. That said, DET paid about $10M of salary, and they got 3 prospects that would probably get $15-20M if they were free agents...and got out of Verlander's long term obligation.

To me, that is HOU turning a 5 year run of success into a 2-3 year run. Of course, if they win in that span, they won't mind a bit.

8/31/2017 11:47:00 PM

(8/31/2017 10:43:00 PM) - Al

Several reports have the Bucks "stretching" Spencer Hawes, which means they will release him, but can pay him over more years than his contract says. This will save them money on the salary cap for the 2017-18 campaign.

8/31/2017 10:43:00 PM

(8/31/2017 10:08:00 PM) - Al

Taylor Williams and Jorge Lopez are both on the 40 man, but both pitched tonight in Biloxi, so neither of them appear to be on their way to MIL. However, I would think they might move up to AAA for the playoffs.

8/31/2017 10:08:00 PM

(8/31/2017 10:00:00 PM) - Al

Why do liberals hate women? Why are they so negative?

The irony here is, anything Trump has said or done pails when compared to guys like Keith...who are very, very unhappy with his behavior.

It's called being a hypocrite. At least they are good at it.

8/31/2017 10:00:00 PM

(8/31/2017 08:28:00 PM) - Al

Phillips not in the lineup in AAA tonight. I would assume those joining the team tomorrow are very likely already at the Pfister, or traveling right now.

Suter is already in MIL, and Susac is playing in Appleton tonight, and will drive down after the game or tomorrow. My guess is, add Wong to the mix, Guerra, and maybe Rivera (also not playing), and that's probably it for now.

8/31/2017 08:28:00 PM

(8/31/2017 08:04:00 PM) - Al

Jungmann starting in Colorado Springs tonight, so he is likely to not be reporting tomorrow, probably not until their season is over, barring injury, of course.

8/31/2017 08:04:00 PM

(8/31/2017 08:01:00 PM) - Al

Isan Diaz will miss the rest of the season with a broken hand. Top 5 prospect, had a 710 OPS as a 21 year old SS in A+, good pop, walked in about 15% of his PA's.

8/31/2017 08:01:00 PM

(8/31/2017 07:09:00 PM) - Al

This is why the old media doesn't understand flyover country.

By the way, today VP Pence and his wife toured part of the flood zone, and she was called "the Second Lady." Is it me, or have others not heard that term before?

8/31/2017 07:09:00 PM

(8/31/2017 06:54:00 PM) - Al

Adam reports Pina still has a sore hip, more tests tomorrow.

Vogt catching tonight versus a LH SP.

8/31/2017 06:54:00 PM

(8/31/2017 06:40:00 PM) - Al

Sure enough, Counsell announces Garza wil not start SUN, will be in the mix in SEP. I would assume when the 5th SP pops up, it will be a matchup situation, and/or who is hot.

As he points out, the SP doesn't have to get the most outs. Depending on the situation, you could see the SP used for a couple innings, followed by Hader for as long as he can go, and then the bullpen.

Craig also says Stearns is "working the phones" as they speak.

8/31/2017 06:40:00 PM

(8/31/2017 06:23:00 PM) - Al

Suter started at Appleton last night and feels good. Will be activated soon, not at liberty to discuss plan. I would assume that probably means he will start SUN, in place of Garza.

Susac and Bandy are both at Appleton for rehab, Susac went 1-3 with a HR and a walk last night, so he looks to be activated first, as early as tomorrow.

8/31/2017 06:23:00 PM

(8/31/2017 05:56:00 PM) - Al

This is far from a big deal, but the Cubs could have easily asked for this exemption months ago when the Pirates said they were playing a night game. For a team that won so easily last season, they sure are a panic infested group this year, searching everywhere for minute advantages here and there.

8/31/2017 05:56:00 PM

(8/31/2017 04:38:00 PM) - Al

Diaz has been excellent in AAA for several years, and hits 93-94, I doubt he'll clear waivers, even though he is "older" now at 28.

8/31/2017 04:38:00 PM

(8/31/2017 04:34:00 PM) - Al

I know we discussed this back when it happened, but it's worth pointing out. They often have the whole fake news written before the event, and just fill in the blanks.

It's also why everyone knows they are full of crap.

8/31/2017 04:34:00 PM

(8/31/2017 04:20:00 PM) - Al

A surprise only to those who have an expense account and have yet to spend one moment in flyover country.

It's funny because it's true.

1. It's OK to punch nazis.

2. A nazi is anyone I disagree with.

When your system is broken, everyone you do is wrong. And they never seem to even ponder the fact eventually, their ignorance will be used against them.

8/31/2017 02:46:00 PM

(8/31/2017 02:36:00 PM) - Al

Mean girls. Bullies.

And the left wonders why no one wants to come over to their side.

(8/31/2017 02:29:00 PM) - Al

Siegrist was one of the best LH relievers in the game in 2015-16 and is not just a loogy. Another strange move by the Cards.

Many online asking for the Uecker call of the Broxton take away.

8/31/2017 02:06:00 PM

(8/31/2017 02:02:00 PM) - Al

Nicasio does not get past a single team, claimed by Phillies.

PIT may have 40 man issues or possibly a really tight payroll cap for next season, but tough to be a Pirates' fan when they're giving away a player several teams would have adored. There's no doubt that Stearns did not expect Gennett to have a year like he has, but neither did 29 other teams, who had no use for him at $2M per.

8/31/2017 02:02:00 PM

(8/31/2017 01:57:00 PM) - Al

Verlander is the headline here, but Greene and Wilson are both very solid relievers with years of team control left. I looked at the Brewers' 40 man roster situation last night and if the Brewers do add nonroster players, I only see a couple "easy, painless" removals.

8/31/2017 01:57:00 PM

(8/31/2017 06:00:00 AM) - Al

They continue to think they can win back voters and change minds by insisting they are a bunch of stupid rednecks, many of which are Christians and even worse, conservatives.

I wish them luck with their strategy. Trying to change minds with ridicule and refusing to even pretend to update their platform and ideas? Lotsa luck with that.

(8/31/2017 03:00:00 AM) - Al

We had the Rambling dog 15 years, and at least we didn't have to go through the pain of losing him because a car hit him.

8/31/2017 03:00:00 AM

(8/31/2017 01:30:00 AM) - Al

Just floors me that Joel Osteen gets criticized.  Left simply can’t be happy either way.  It’s either “you suck because you didn’t open” or “you suck because it took you so long to open."  Had it opened immediately, according to the hilarious but also left-leaning Houstonian Ralphie May, people would have died trying to get there, so he would have been criticized for that, too.
You hit the nail on the head—nobody protests the bankrupt church for not opening.  Punishing success is what the left enjoys most of all.

In one of the stories on Osteen, I see he has not taken a salary from Lakewood since 2005. While I'm sure he's a wealthy man, he has done so by being immensely popular, selling tons of books, audio books, and planners. As I point out often, I have no jealousy of the successful for one simple reason...I figure they are probably better than me at what they do, work harder than me, or have just been luckier than me...I certainly can't fault them for any of those things. And, I have no reason to punish them by taking more of their legally obtained success.

To paraphrase Warren Buffet, we should cheer them on, as if there were more of them, our government would have more funds. Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway funds 36 hours of our insanely high federal budget. If only we had dozens of companies that profitable.

(8/30/2017 07:11:00 PM) - Al

I'll go ahead and guess that other than Suter and Susac coming off the DL FRI, I'll guess Phillips, Lopez, Wang, and Guerra will return right away when the rosters expand.

I am not predicting any players not on the 40, but they do have a couple guys they could easily remove...recently added Aaron Brooks and Yadi Rivera being the most obvious, though Rivera is a plus defender at all the infield spots, and could be added as well.

8/30/2017 07:11:00 PM

(8/30/2017 06:32:00 PM) - Al

I assume Fox had to wait X amount of days after she was "released" by Glenn Beck for having the nerve to have another political opinion than him. Who knows, she might have still getting paid by Beck, as he likely would have lost in arby or court.

Good luck to Tomi...if nothing else, she'll bring some good looks to Hannity.

8/30/2017 06:32:00 PM

(8/30/2017 04:15:00 PM) - Al

Remember a while back when everyone insisted Trump was wrong that violence was coming from both sides?

Not anymore.

The irony is, there's a few dozen white supremacists, and there's hundreds of these clods on every college campus. No jobs, plenty of spare time, money from grants and parents...they have plenty of funding.

8/30/2017 04:15:00 PM

(8/30/2017 04:00:00 PM) - Al

To be honest, I never thought much of him either.

And especially now.

8/30/2017 04:00:00 PM

(8/30/2017 03:30:00 PM) - Al

Please, please keep talking.

Never be quiet, not even for a second. In fact, go to college campuses and beg them to continue.

8/30/2017 03:30:00 PM

(8/30/2017 02:22:00 PM) - Al

This is why no one pays attention to the old media. They are never happy, and ALWAYS negative. Barring more rainfall in Houston and a levee breaking in Louisiana, the damage and loss from this biblical storm will be minimal, and the response from the feds was solid, while the response from the people of Texas was historical.

As a wise man said, if Trump cured cancer today, the old media would ask what he was doing yesterday.

8/30/2017 02:22:00 PM

(8/30/2017 02:00:00 PM) - Al

I'd love a dog like this, but I also enjoy the Rambling wife...

8/30/2017 02:00:00 PM

(8/30/2017 01:25:00 PM) - Al

Starting to see open disgust for all the good deeds and lack of whining we're seeing in Texas.

As the public sends money and donates supplies, nothing will turn the tide quicker than seeing a far left site tell them the world is going to hell because they represent America's charitable spirit.

8/30/2017 01:25:00 PM

(8/30/2017 12:30:00 PM) - Al

I'd sure hate to walk that distance. Or drive it.

8/30/2017 12:30:00 PM

(8/30/2017 11:00:00 AM) - Al

Note the response of Lakewood folks (and a few neighbors as well), probably not the least bit happy about being called selfish for not opening up their flooded building.

Meanwhile, the ones doing the criticizing? Out looting.

8/30/2017 11:00:00 AM

(8/30/2017 10:00:00 AM) - Al

Starting to see and hear whispers from the left on social media that the old media needs to "find some stuff wrong" with Houston and the surrounding rescue effort.

Just when you think they've hit rock bottom, they manage to dig a little more dirt out of the hole.

In a reply on my Facebook feed, I read this:

I don't know if we need to hope for more rain, a tornado, or what? But at the moment, Trump looks competent, the governor too, yet the Dem mayor says something dumbass every day. If this is how it ends, they need to find some mistakes and point them out. Right now, all we have is his ugly wife wearing heels like a whore.

I fixed the half dozen spelling and punctuation errors...whore was "hoar," and governor was...wait for it..."govnar."

You can just feel the independents moving to the other side with that hatred, can't you?

8/30/2017 10:00:00 AM

(8/30/2017 09:30:00 AM) - Al

Bread, basically flour, water, and yeast, is cheap; but notice Black Lives Matter and antifa haven't been donating any.

Too busy looting.

8/30/2017 09:30:00 AM

(8/30/2017 07:30:00 AM) - Al

Pelosi's response sounds an awful lot like Trump's.

However, this will not be pointed out by the old media, because it does not fit the narrative. And shut up.

Anyone who insisted antifa and other liberal groups were not violent have seen that silly stance destroyed by oodles of recent violence, even as the old media tries to excuse it. If only they would use it to kill terrorists instead of injure bystanders.

8/30/2017 07:30:00 AM

(8/30/2017 05:30:00 AM) - Al

8/30/2017 05:30:00 AM

(8/30/2017 03:00:00 AM) - Al

That's different, because shut up.

They wonder why no one trusts the old media. Because they don't report what they don't want you to know.

8/30/2017 03:00:00 AM

(8/30/2017 12:30:00 AM) - Al

Fake news?

But I've been told that isn't really a thing.

Note that it's CNN. They could have easily released this along with other photos from Houston and just let people assume.

(8/29/2017 07:41:00 PM) - Al

Showed a clip on the news that while Trump and his team were doing the presser at a fire station in Corpus Christi, which is now pretty much back to normal a couple hours south of Houston, hundreds of people showed up there and began chanting pro Trump slogans across the street. They were well behaved, not wearing masks, and obviously, deplorable human beings.

I, of course, didn't believe it, because I have it on good authority no one likes him.

TV team says it's sunny and dry in Houston. Weather Underground has no rain through the weekend, just a day or two ago, they had 3-4 inches a day until FRI.

Even Mother Nature loves Texas.

Who knows, they might be able to play their weekend series there if the water goes down fast enough, mainly off the main traffic arteries.

Years ago, we took the ceiling fan blades down in the Rambling son's room, because he had a raised bed and it would have hit him.

So, that room has reverted back to the Rambling wife's office, for her college studies. She told the Rambling son to put the blades back on. Found the blades in the storage area under the stairs...can't find the nuts and bolts.

Funny how you can lose something that fits in your hand in a decade.

The irony is, they keep saying it because it's 100% true.

Pretending to be outraged by folks telling the truth while your mask wearing supporters are beating photographers with baseball bats because they dare to take pics of you beating people with bats while while wearing ain't gonna play well in flyover country.

Keep it up, please, keep it up.

Trade interest in Justin Verlander has increased this week; a team other than Astros has emerged as possible suitor, source

Almost every contender makes sense. He has been lights out in the last 6 weeks. DET will get a prospect or two if they eat enough money. He's worth nothing otherwise, as that's why no one claimed him, for fear DET would just let him go.

8/29/2017 04:19:00 PM

(8/29/2017 04:14:00 PM) - Al

This happened at Occupy too.

I recall a reporter writing that a parent had brought their hoodlum a garbage bag or two full of their stuff, and told them if they had enough money to do drugs and sit around all day, they could find another place to live. It was reported others threw bottles and cans of beer and pop at their car as they drove away.

Because they were all misunderstood, fine upstanding citizens.

Snowflakes and other such derogatory terms are not only completely accurate, but perhaps far too kind.

8/29/2017 04:00:00 PM

(8/29/2017 03:55:00 PM) - Al

Any moves before the deadline? Maybe a hard throwing reliever that can go multiple innings or a loogy?

Probably not, though I would say you are accurate on what Stearns would like to add. A LH hitting 4th OF too, depending on if they want Phillips to play everyday until the playoffs are done and/or how many spots they can clear on the 40 man. They do have Wang and Webb on the 40, and Wang has been very good in AAA, while Webb has struggled since his trade to MIL (though, many pitchers have a tough time at altitude).

Aoki makes sense, though he is not a perfect fit (few are).

One of the lefties will be up, as will a couple others (Jungmann, Guerra, Lopez all on the 40; Peralta is not) if, for nothing else, to pitch the 7th and 8th innings when the team is down 9-3 and no one else needs the work. Suter will be activated too, Woodruff also and added to the rotation.

8/29/2017 03:55:00 PM

(8/29/2017 03:00:00 PM) - Al

I suspect Amazon may be as despised by anti capitalists as Wal Mart soon, because, simply put, they always go after the successful.

Whole Foods was kind of a grocery cult, they really only catered to the wealthy or the deeply in debt that either didn't care they were overpaying or used it as a status symbol.

8/29/2017 03:00:00 PM

(8/29/2017 02:00:00 PM) - Al

They find it far easier to fight stuff that is only dangerous in their own minds, and especially so, that won't shoot back.

When you keep losing the real battles, you make up imaginary ones.

(8/29/2017 01:46:00 PM) - Al

All they have is bullying. As I have said often, their inability to do anything about bullying in schools except posters and cliches is probably directly related to the fact they are the worst offenders.

Do what I say, not what I do is a rather weak debate.

8/29/2017 01:46:00 PM

(8/29/2017 09:00:00 AM) - Al

Two thoughts, both of which I have said before.

1. If they wear masks, they are criminals and thugs. We all know it, but...

2. The left is never asked to take responsibility. Pelosi proudly said Occupy thugs were "her people," and we all know antifa is Occupy in black that haven't stopped selling drugs and got real jobs.

The hell with them. The fact they will not denounce a word because they love what they are doing...and somehow still stupidly feel it brings common, everyday folks to their side...shows why they lose. They misread what the Obama election meant, and 1000 seats later, they keep insisting they didn't and keep doubling down.

Keep doing what you're doing.

Aoki DFA'd by Blue Jays. Similar to Granderson, minus the power and CF defense. Doubt if he'd be a much better choice than Phillips, though it would allow Brett to play every day in AAA.

I don't think I've ever been so unsure who the Brewers would bring up when the rosters expand, at least in the internet, high information age; and when I actually had some understanding of the 40 man roster.

Brett Phillips will be back, though it may not be on SEP1. Woodruff will return, and probably go right into the rotation when needed. Suter will be activated. Susac and/or Bandy will as well, when they are physically able. I would assume Yadi Rivera will either be brought up, or be taken off the 40 man to make room for a nonroster player to be added.

I'm not sure if MLB is actually holding out hope the Astros can play at home this week or if they are just delaying the inevitable announcement until they have all the details.

They can't move them to MIL this time because the Crew is at home. I would assume they will either play in Arlington or move them to a dome of a team that's on the road.

Why do people hesitate to say how they feel? Because for 8 years, you were a racist if you disagreed with any policy of the president. Now, you're a nazi.

Is it any wonder why many stay quiet and smile as they stand in the voting booth and are finally able to vote for lower taxes and a strong defense?

One of the best series outcomes for the Crew in years.

Funny, I do not recall Bernie bragging about this.

We have socialized medicine's called the VA, and it was broken so badly the new administration basically fired everyone and started over. Reports from vets say it is getting better, but in a "sucks less" type of way.

Nowhere to go but up. It isn't about health care, it's about power.

Any momentum they had has been killed by their most common problem...they never know when to quit.

This is how you lose 90% of the electorate. So, is any film that has slaves or Civil War references now unwatchable? How about a TV show which discusses sexual assault or the murder of children?

SVU and Criminal Minds better watch out...the Big Brother of PCness will soon be after you.

Soon, every show or movie will be in which the villain wants to open a coal mine or, heaven forbid, an oil refinery; who will be fought tooth and nail by unemployed socialists who live with their parents and have advanced degrees in European Transgender Literature.

Espino traded to the Rangers for cash.

I've about given up trying to figure out who will be get through and who won't...Blazek's younger, has far better numbers at AAA, and watching both pitch, appears to have far better stuff.

At least Paolo was claimed by a couple teams so the Brewers got something. Be interesting to see who they try to sneak through waivers if they add any non 40 players to the roster in SEP. The pitfalls of having a good system are few, but losing guys on waivers is a negative. We'll see if Espino is a minor league FA again this winter or if TEX or another club keeps him on their 40.

The lack of drama from Texas folks in the hurricane is refreshing. Many reports of heavy drinking and grilling in the garage on social media.

(8/25/2017 11:57:00 PM) - Al

Make sure you label those staying.

I have a pair of thoughts.

1. As proven over and over, no one gives a rip when the Midwest has an 18-24 inch snowfall. It barely makes the evening news.

2. Those ones that refuse to leave will be the same ones who run out of supplies and are upset FEMA only lets them have 2 bottled waters and a pack of pop tarts. Because they know better.

At the end of the day, I feel the same way about them as I do when rich guys on their 2nd midlife crisis, 7th beer and 3rd trophy wife hop in a hot air balloon, float for 1000 miles, and then hit a strong breeze and a massive rescue effort is launched. When you know better, still behave irresponsibly, and then put the lives of EMT's and others at risk, I can't say I'm going to shed a tear. I'll save that for those that deserve it, like our military and law enforcement.

As I point out often, my pantry has more in it than 95% of those who are attempting to "ride out the storm." No one cries louder and longer than the unprepared.

Corbin Burnes will not be summoned in SEP.

Burnes does not have to be added to the 40 man until after the 2019 season. Adding him would mean you would have one less prospect to protect. For a few innings, it would be very shortsighted.

All the best people I worked for were never locked into a way to do things, they just got the job done.

The worst? They insisted you do things a certain way; no matter how slow, ineffective, and painful.

Obama, for example, kept firing his top military advisors because they kept telling him his way would never work.

Guess what? Having all yes men didn't work either. He was so caught up emulating Neville Chamberlain, he never figured out he had the same amount of success as Neville Chamberlain.

They will both be mocked in the history books, despite the continued attempts to glorify their failed legacies.

(8/25/2017 10:00:00 AM) - Al

This is not surprising to anyone except the casuals.

Drake has been very effective save for a bad outing or two. He's a bit limited due to his mediocre numbers versus RH bats, so it'd be great if they could sign him to a minor league contract this offseason, as he's a risk to keep on the 40 without options.

8/25/2017 10:00:00 AM

(8/25/2017 09:21:00 AM) - Al

Pirates sign Johnny Hellweg.

(8/25/2017 08:30:00 AM) - Al

Oh, without a doubt. Most of the silliness about Katrina was pure fiction. The Red Cross would not let their people in due to unsafe conditions, and the old media blamed W for not getting supplies in...because that's the narrative they wanted to sell.

If you have 3 days worth of food and water in your home, you are more prepared than 90% of Americans..including those that are in hurricane zones. Many folks are shocked that power goes out during a storm, making their freezer full of food not only unable to be cooked, but only good for a few days...if you're smart enough not to keep opening the door.

8/24/2017 11:19:00 PM

Domingo Santana has slowed a bit, but he’s drawn considerable interest elsewhere, and considering the Brewers’ great outfield stash, could be a winter trade candidate.--Heyman

A wise man has been saying that since the beginning of this season. Difficult not to see Santana having a lot of suitors, given the dearth of RH power.

His legacy, in a single paragraph.

The irony? I pointed this out while it was happening, while others were fawning and bowing to his greatness.

Imagine, if you will, if President Trump said, over and over, that you could keep your plan and your doctor, while knowing full well you could not. That he would end the war in Afghanistan, and then that he did...and it was still going when he left.

Instead, they shrugged and covered up.

Blake Wood DFA'd by Reds. 96 mph fastball, 90 mph slider...if that sounds like Barnes, you are correct. I like him far more than Aaron Brooks, though Wood is 32, so he might be a year or two away from being done.

Nice guy to keep in mind as far as a minor league contract over the winter. You can't teach velocity.

8/23/2017 11:10:00 PM

(8/23/2017 10:30:00 PM) - Al

No way.

I'm afraid they may be onto us. That said, they're too stupid to stop overreacting and exaggerating. No sooner did Trump ask what statue were off limits, that folks suggested blowing up Mount Rushmore.

Hard to believe that did not play well.

8/23/2017 10:30:00 PM

(8/23/2017 08:31:00 PM) - Al

8/23/2017 07:03:00 PM

(8/23/2017 06:42:00 PM) - Al

Nothing wrong with a 3-3 beginning to the road trip, especially given what a cheap hit lost the game today. Nothing that could have been done.

The negative is, the Dodgers are the best team in MLB, and probably for the past 20 years. They are 51-14 at home, and have outscored their opponents by 219 runs total, and would be 13 games ahead of the second best team, the Astros, if they were in the same division. Any math guy worth his salt would say the most likely scenario is LA winning 2 of 3...and the 2nd most likely scenario is probably LA winning all 3.

8/23/2017 06:42:00 PM

(8/23/2017 05:30:00 PM) - Al

This is how they got Trump.

They just can't help themselves. This continues the "you're all deplorable and we hate change sides and vote for us" strategy.

How's that working out?

8/23/2017 05:30:00 PM

(8/23/2017 04:30:00 PM) - Al

If you notice, every story begins with "peaceful protest turned violent."

When they bring bottles of pee and rocks to throw, it was never designed to be peaceful. And the old media knows it.

(8/23/2017 03:30:00 PM) - Al

Rick Sweet, who manages AAA Colorado Springs, said the other day he expects to lose 5-7 players in SEP.

I did not predict that many, but you would think he would know. He said he has been in contact with Brewers' brass about minor league players playing in Mexico, as their season will be over before the minor league playoffs begin. He said it's especially strange because often times, teams just bring up players from AA to fill out the AAA team, but Biloxi might make the playoffs too.

Trending in Milwaukee...blacks for Trump.

Just imagine the totals if he'd manage (or, any Republican) to get 25% of the black vote. It would not be Reaganesque, but it'd be close.

Crew picks up Aaron Brooks on waivers.

Must be a "stuff" pickup, as Brooks has not had success in AAA or the majors to speak of, and none since 2015. He does have very good BB/K ratios, though not the low HR/9 we're used to seeing from Stearns' fellas. He does generate a lot of ground balls...I wonder if the Crew sees him as a reliever who has been miscast as a SP.

A 40 man roster spot will have to cleared for Brooks, though Susac could be put on the 60 day DL (or possibly outrighted).

I agree on both counts. Pakistan is a troublemaker, and have been for ages. And more trainers are needed.

I would assume more air and possibly sea support will be given too...those have little danger to the military and usually only cost money, rather than casualties.

And yes, it is difficult to talk about that part of the world and not discuss how stable it was in 2009, and what a disaster it is today. He could not have done a worse job if he had went in with that goal.

I have it on good authority cows often lie down during the day.

This has not been a good couple weeks for the big city old media, proving how out of touch they are with all things in flyover country.

When I turned on the TV today, it was on eclipse coverage, because the channel had changed when it had DVR'd a show. The gent said the football stadium in Carbondale IL, home of Southern Illinois University, held 50K, and it was full. Knowing they do not have a BCS football team, I found that shocking, so I googled it...Saluki Stadium holds about 18K with standing room. They could not even be bothered to do basic research on the venue they were reporting from.

8/21/2017 02:22:00 PM

(8/21/2017 02:05:00 PM) - Al

This is much like the fake news earlier about how expensive a Trump trip to FL was...for comparison sakes, they used an Obama trip to FL which first had him giving a speech in IL. It's not just that they know they're lying, it's that they report said lies as fact. This is why the old media's approval rating compares to Congress'.

These faux concerns about fiscal responsibility are quite rich after pretending not to notice Obama doubling 236 years of debt in 8 years in office.

As pointed out, the Secret Service is overburdened, and it is not helped by having to investigate liberal buffoons who keep wishing the president dead, or counterfeiters. Considering government is layers of bureaucracy, they'll get it fixed in a few dozen years.

Brewers 2 back of the Cubs, and 2.5 back of the DBacks in the wildcard race.

Why do those on the left fail to see that the public wonders why they refuse to admit their "peaceful protests" are full of violence.

Brewers sign speedster OF, likely for SEP and possible postseason PR duties.

Berry is a Charles Emerson Winchester of baseball...he does one thing, and he does it very well. His major league numbers include 27 stolen bases versus only one caught stealing...a mind boggling 96% success rate, plus 5 out of 5 in the postseason.

His minor league stats include 387 steals at an 80% rate. Since 2010, he has 208 SB's with an 83% positive outcome.

If you are thinking the Brewers had someone like this before, you are right, they signed minor league veteran Mel Stocker to steal and run in 2007-8.

Scott Adams is doing some really, really good work.

His description of mass hysteria is near perfect. The complete realization that folks had/are having that they had completely misread the situation is obvious to most of us, who were surprised, but looked at the facts, and the exit polls, and understood what had happened. Others...did not.

They began blaming racism (my personal favorite, as the ignorance that a white man defeating the same white woman a black man had defeated was racist remains the epitome of stupidity), every other ism under the sun, and most of all, started saying how stupid everyone was other than themselves.

If any of you are looking for a healthy summer snack, and I'm sure many of you have a whole bunch of zucchini either from your garden or from a friend that has a garden; slice them thin, put on any spices you enjoy (I like salt/pepper/garlic/parm cheese).

400 degrees, 15-30 minutes, depending on if you like them a bit moist like me, or really crunchy and dry, like a real potato chip.

And if you think you don't like zucchini, they basically have no flavor, especially if you bale them half an hour. They just take on the flavor of the add ons.

Blazek clears waivers and outrighted to AAA.

As good as his numbers were outside of his bad start in DC, especially at altitude in Colorado Springs, this is a surprise to me. The Reds, for example, could certainly use him as an upgrade.

It makes you wonder too about scouts in the stands and all the taping on TV. Blazek was outstanding in his MLB relief outings, batters barely making contact, throwing hard too. He's cheap, under team control. Makes you wonder what teams want.

A car guy I worked with at the pizza place 25 years ago told me synthetic oil would last twice as long as regular. By the looks of this, he was correct, as the used synthetic appears identical to the brand new.

One thing to keep in mind though, he said to still change the filter every 3K miles, even if you used synthetic.

Rambling son just started mowing the lawn. Despite us having put gutters on the house in May, he has yet to remember to remove them before beginning. He always starts the mower, mows for 5 minutes, and then shuts it off when he remembers.

FYI, our sump pump has not run once since we put those up. We have tested it a couple times before heavy rains were forecast, and it seems fine. All that water that used to go straight down is now diverted. I found a site online that tells you how much water falls on an area, and I figure that when it rains an inch, we used to have about 1500 gallons the sump pump needed to get rid of.

Imagine 25 gallons of water filling your trunk...that's 60 times that.

Hoops Rumors lists Hawes as a candidate to be "stretched."

Hawes is a serviceable player, and I'd prefer him to Henson, but Henson's contract is a burden unless he's a starter or playing 20+ minutes as a reserve, and no team wants to take that on, apparently, as he's been readily available since last season.

If my math is right, the Bucks need a roster spot for Jason Terry too.

Go an email from Pizza Hut today that had "study break?" in the subject line. You forget that in many parts of the country, school is already started, both K-12 and college. They might get out earlier in the spring, or just have longer/more frequent breaks. That's also why it seems like school supplies go on sale so early here.

The strange thing is, back when I was a boy, my average start date was about AUG22. We started a couple weeks earlier...but we usually went until the first few days of June. We certainly did not have long breaks...never had a fall break, just 4 days at Tgiving, and we often went on DEC23 and returned JAN2. It seems like I rarely had a full week of spring break either...often, we just had THU/FRI of one week and MON the next...we often called it Easter break. Not sure if we went more days or not.

I think a "survival income" is far better than what we have now...which is giving the money to only the least motivated (and a small amount of the disabled). As I have pointed out a couple other times, a basic income provides people with the freedom to either work part time or use their time in other ways, studying to better themselves, or just for the enjoyment of learning.

The problem is, with our dependent and entitlement mentality, there is no way they would ever NOT give extra money to those who insisted they were worse off...which defeats the idea and morale of a basic income.

The left keeps complaining about everything except the fact they are driving their voters out in droves.

What's that wise man say often? They vote with their feet. IL is broke, driving businesses and individuals to WI by raising taxes and fees while removing services...of course, they never saw it coming. Those rubes are too stupid to even notice...hey, where are they going?

Meanwhile, WI is happy to accept them, being in its fiscally sound position because of fiscally responsible policies enacted by a fiscally responsible governor.

Who could have seen that coming? If only we would have paid certain folks more because they have to pay union dues because they have to funnel it back to the's that working out?

Gallo now has 7 450-footers. Most in MLB. Weakling Stanton is second with 6. Nobody else has more than 3. Via Statcast.--Evan Grant

Many casuals insisted Gallo was terrible last summer and they did not want him, when in reality, it is not a coincidence the Rangers never made him available.

The #1 sign of casuals is they ignore a player's age when evaluating them. They will say a 27 year old at AA is great and a 22 year old at AAA has no future. You can't fix stupid.

Brewers have 3 in the top 36 in lowest hard hit rate for pitchers.

That's very impressive.

It also gives those wondering if they will pick up the $5M option next season for Garza a quick answer. He's been unlucky, though he does not pitch out of the stretch very well, and he has his quirks, though they rarely hurt him like you would think they would.

But at $5M, he's a bargain if he gives a team 75-100 average innings.

Hanson sums up what I have been saying for 9 months now.

Trump's approval is what it was or higher than when he won the election. Given the way polling is done, it's probably well higher than being reported.

The economy is booming, and while most of it is psychological, wait until the changes kick in.

Immigration is way down, and the laws are being enforced.

The victories are not reported, but they are many and huge. North Korea all but cried and bowed out of fear (it reminded myself of Obama foreign policy, but hence, I digress) to the USA's tough talk.

If this would have happened a year ago, it would be hailed as a Cuba missile crisis like win (much like the Iranian "deal" which was worthless and gave the USA nothing); while today, it is being mentioned in passing.

Read the whole thing. Those that read the tea leaves incorrectly last NOV are doing so again. The funny thing, they have doubled down on their volume, as they know they get more attention if they are loud.

That doesn't make them right.

As Glenn has pointed out, when they call him Hitler, they're never going to like anything he does. If he cured cancer tomorrow, the old media would run a defense of malignant tumors by the weekend and call anyone that disagreed "idiot science deniers."

Luckily, he doesn't need their votes. You can win a lot of elections by making conservatives and independents happy...that's how he won last time, actually.

Got an email yesterday asking about SEP callups. After thinking how early it was, I realized today is the 15th.

First of all, many of the guys on the DL will be back by then...Vogt is probable, as is Anderson, and Suter (I have my doubts if Brent is suffering from anymore than a tired arm). Assume the players they replace will be back, so that would be 3 (or 28).

close to Definite
Bandy/Susac  (assuming Vogt is the backup by then, not sure how long Bandy is out)
a pitcher or two (Jungmann, Espino, Webb, and Wang are the favorites on the 40, though others can be added...all fit the criteria of either specialists or innings eaters)

Longshots, but fun to talk about
Dubon (has to be added to the 40 this offseason, I would expect him to be limited to PR duties)
Wren (also have to be added to the 40, but a prototypical PR/5th OF type...could be added in place of Phillips or Brinson if they are worried about their service time)

Crew has a day off MON and one THU, giving them the option of sending a SP down, as they will not need a 5th SP until TUE22. That may well be the 25 man move they make, Suter has, of course, used his option for this season on numerous occasions.

Heck, Anderson could pitch on that TUE, if they keep his 3rd rehab outing brief.

May be trickier getting Walker a 40 man spot.

Mets paying part of Walker's $5M he is owed the rest of the season.

Buying a prospect, so to speak.

Vogt threw out a base stealer in Kane County tonight, so he is all set to go.

Jerry Crasnick just tweeted he is standing outside the clubhouse waiting to talk to Neil Walker, so Walker is still in Philly. Won't be making it tonight, to say the least.

Reports are the Crew have acquired Neil Walker from the Mets.

Strange timing, with Villar getting hot, although because of paperwork, it probably took 24-48 hours to become official.

Of course, we kind of forget Villar can play other spots than 2B. I would assume Walker would take Sogard's 25 man spot, assuming a prospect was dealt. If a player not on the 40 was dealt, they'll have to open up a spot on their as well.

The slight irony about the 40 man is that Susac might be one of the lowest on that totem pole, but, of course, he is in MIL and will be the backup C for another week or so. Yadi Rivera and Paolo Espino would be my guess for lowest man on the 40, though you could make an argument for others. I believe they have to place Walker on the 40 as soon as the trade is made, but not the 25 until he reports, which given the off day MON, may well be TUE.

EDIT: NY Post reporting it is a PTBNL for Walker. That could be anyone not on the 25 man.

It could even be a player on the 40 that has been or may be claimed on waivers...this way, they can wait until after the season to make the swap.

Notice how there are no riots or idiots blocking traffic about this

Those folks only care about criminals, not law enforcement. I'm glad they are not on my side.

Because shut up.

The one thing that is rather apparent today? A few days ago, Trump was "Too mean" but today, he was "not mean enough."

What does that mean? Some people are hypocrites, and will never be happy. The hell with them.

It's almost as if they change their mind often because they don't really believe in anything. Keep kicking that can down the road, eventually, someone will clean up your mess.

If I didn't know better, I think this is what they call "building a coalition."

We haven't seen much of it for a while, since all we did was cower and apologize.

Only the old media could make a couple dozen white supremacists in Virginia into a national issue. Press coverage is the only reason they are there. If TV and internet would not give them the attention they crave, they would have already packed up and driven home.

The odd thing is, no matter how hard they try, those of us who know our history know the KKK's very tight relationship with the Dem party and their leadership...even though Al Gore ran for president and the fact his dad was a leader of both was hidden.

You'd rewrite history too if it was that damaging.

I have pointed this out before, but it remains true.

The public feels the direction of the US has been turned around, but since there's a segment that refuses to admit they "support" Trump, his numbers are artificially low.

Take Trump's name off the question, however, and they happily admit it. I've said it a few times, but if Trump won in 2016 with a 38% approval rating, be wary of him at 45%.

Just because you are easily offended does not make your opinions more meaningful. Politics is tough, get used to it.

When your best argument against someone is "He's terrible and his supporters are deplorable," you are bound to lose.
