I'm sure they never told Hillary about any of us. Just like Harvey's years of bad behavior...she KNEW NOTHING!!!!

Note that Bob Mueller either actively covered it up or completely fell asleep at the wheel.

Who is going to investigate the investigator? We knew he was a party hack, but now it appears he is guilty of a massive crime.

(10/18/2017 11:30:00 AM) - Al

No, I'm not sure why he needs a Twitter account.

Remember how they stopped talking about the Scalise shooting when they found out it was a Bernie supporter? Not a coincidence.

Remember back when I said the first thing they thought of to blame Trump for was Russia because they had actually been working with them? If this keeps up, Scott Adams will be congratulating me.

10/18/2017 11:30:00 AM

(10/18/2017 10:00:00 AM) - Al

A wise man has said something similar often.

The more Hillary speaks out against Trump, the better it is. In fact, she should start complimenting him. Things like, "At least he didn't fall down when he said it," or "I agree he needs to get something done. Too bad the only thing he knows about immigrants is how to get them into bed." Hillary, however, has never had a funny thought in her life, except when she thought she was qualified to run for president (though to be fair, she is "qualified" because she's an American over 35...that's all it takes).

The irony is, in her mind, she thinks the citizens that have voted against her twice while voting for two inexperienced guys instead will somehow say, "You know, she's an awful person who laughs at awkward moments and never smiles, but suddenly, I've had a change of heart. Maybe she was right."

(10/18/2017 09:23:00 AM) - Al

Two things embarrass me about this.

1. They lie. All the time.

2. They're so hopelessly bad at it.

10/18/2017 09:23:00 AM

(10/18/2017 08:55:00 AM) - Al

You stay classy, CNN.

They completely made up a story about Trump having Russian investment connections. They made fun of McCain for not being able to use a computer (his POW injuries make typing impossible or very painful, depending on who you ask). They made fun of Bob Dole because he always carried a pen in his right hand, so people would shake with their left, due to the fact his right hand was damaged in combat.

Just when you think they've hit rock bottom, they manage to get a little more dirt
out of the hole.

10/18/2017 08:55:00 AM

(10/18/2017 08:40:00 AM) - Al

A couple thoughts about calling the families of our fallen heroes:

1. My first thought upon hearing the accusation was "I have to believe they record calls on the official White House line. I bet we will see a transcript eventually." President already hinting that.

2. My second thought? It seems to me that saying someone volunteered to do a dangerous job is a compliment. All of our military take a risk in signing up, as it's a dangerous occupation.

It reminds me of what they say about Army Rangers, how they have to volunteer 3 times...they have to join the Army, then ask (and qualify for) to go to Ranger school, and finally, ask to be a Ranger (anyone can go to Ranger school, if you wish, you can pass and then go back to being a mechanic or any other MOS).

Somehow, if President Trump pointed that out, I assume they would say that was disrespectful as well. Fits the narrative.

10/18/2017 08:40:00 AM

(10/18/2017 07:00:00 AM) - Al

I know I'm in the minority here, but I have no problem with this. Cops don't have to get kicked and hit by anyone, whether it be a 90 year old, 80 pound woman; or a 8 year old, 50 pound youngster.I remember when the Rambling son was a 12 pound baby, and he'd get upset and start swinging his arms and kicking while someone was holding him...guess what? It hurts.

I realize folks insist you can solve every problem with teddy bears and soft voices, but it may not always work that way with infinite amounts of kids. I distinctly recall special ed kids in high school screaming at the top of their lungs and the teacher walking out in the hall followed by the rest of the class. A few minutes later, a principal or male teacher would go in and walk the offending party to the office. What would have happened had the student started punching and kicking? At some point, the police would have been called.

Is the kid going to be scarred for life being told to behave or he will be punished? I know he's "special," but hitting people has consequences. I see this the same way I do when people tell me prisoners in isolation often struggle with it. Well, they ain't there for their health. They are there to protect the other prisoners and the corrections staff.

You can complain all you want if you agree to live in the concrete box with them. Otherwise, it might be time to accept the fact some people are incredibly messed up, and they ain't gonna be fixed by having another felon getting the crap beat out of them by a psychopath.

10/18/2017 07:00:00 AM

(10/18/2017 06:00:00 AM) - Al

They keep wondering why those in the asylum won't stop behaving stupidly.

They have been throughly outsmarted, and now have no way to win. Instead of admitting defeat, they keep calling time out, of which they have an infinite amount.

This is a perfect example of what happens when leaders don't lead.

They think citizens of the USA give a damn where they are assigned to sit. The hell with them.

Oof. Herro reopens his recruiting.

Like most high school kids, they change their mind 20 times a day. I hope he ends up in Madison. One wonders if he simply wants to "just be another guy" at a school a long way away than be "the home state kid."

Remember, he can give a verbal to 100 different schools, all that matters is when he signs a letter of intent. I have no idea how good his grades are, but the academics have scared away a plenty of potential Badgers too.

10/17/2017 07:50:00 PM

(10/17/2017 07:36:00 PM) - Al

Think back a few weeks, how easy it would have been to simply say, "You know, it's controversial to our fan base to protest during the anthem, so we will fine and suspend you if you do. The other 165 hours you can protest how you want, but not during the game."

Remember, no decal was allowed to mourn assassinated Dallas cops (see, that was "controversial" but disrespecting the flag is not). Nothing could be written on cleats in support of 9/11 victims...again, "controversial" to mourn terror victims).

It barely would have made a ripple of news...the NBA effectively did this the other day, pointing out the rule made in the 90's is still in force.

Instead, they decided everything against Trump was genius. If he says it's right, it must be wrong.

They got played. Like many companies based in NYC, they are in a bubble and have no idea how the country thinks.

Payton signs a 2 way deal with the Bucks.

I think he will dominate with the Herd and be ready in case of injury.

One thing I do not know is what happens if another team wants to put Payton on their 15 man, if they have to work a trade with the Bucks or if they will do what's best for the player and release him and allow him to get into the NBA. We'll have to see what happens.

10/17/2017 05:35:00 PM

(10/17/2017 04:38:00 PM) - Al

I know nothing about the Packers' QB they signed to the practice squad, but he went to Air Force before transferring to Virginia Tech, and while they do make exceptions for athletes, they do not allow dummies in. He'll probably have most of the playbook in his head by the time they play after the bye week, heaven forbid he's needed, right Packers' fans?

If it were me, I would have brought in the best running QB out there that can, you know, throw "ok" because teams in the NFL simply do not see enough running QB's to bother coming up with schemes to defend them, other than basically having a "spy."

10/17/2017 04:38:00 PM

(10/17/2017 04:30:00 PM) - Al

They'd have better luck convincing me how darn mean and the like Trump is if they would not have called all around good people W, McCain, and McCain Hitler.

Life comes at you fast.

(10/17/2017 03:38:00 PM) - Al

I wonder why the silence on this? One would almost have to believe they have hidden it because it does not fit the narrative.

The irony? One wonders how much came to the forefront because of the Russia investigation...remember that? The silence is deafening.

(10/17/2017 01:00:00 PM) - Al

See, the humor is when a Dem is in office, and the serious and arrogance is when the GOP is.

Because that's the way it is when you're a hack.

When Obama cut off visas from 7 countries, he was being thoughtful and cautious. When Trump did the identical thing, he was a racist.

Because shut up.

However, I do credit the Supreme Court for not laughing out loud as they told the appeals court they were fools.

Lots of people in the MLBTR comments want Dee Gordon as the 2B. Thoughts?

Positives: Gordon is a good defender, runs well, and has a decent (.330) OBP for his career, would be helped about 5-6% by playing half his games at Miller Park, though he is not a HR hitter, would likely increase his extra base hits.

Negatives: Very "slight" of size, signed for 3y/$39M with an option for a 4th, heavy splits (far better versus RHP, about .310/.340 versus LHP, not a bad option against a loogy, but would probably be platooned with Perez or Villar); 30, probably headed down hill from here, OBP very BA dependent, as he rarely walks (4.5% career, 3.6% LY), good SB man, but just an above average success rate (77% career, 79% LY, comparable to Villar).

I would prefer a Cesar Hernandez type, but Gordon would cost less due to his age and big contract, probably just a single prospect of some merit.

No glaring errors in MLB's Brewers outlook...though they might have asked for some help from a well known Brewers' blogger or the record, of course.

The nontenders and 2B options both seem well thought out, as do the possible extensions. I think there's a chance Vogt returns, but as with Jeffress or Torres, they will probably have to be nontendered and brought back as free agents.

Nunez is a RH bat, but has always hit RHP better than LHP...he has outstanding versatility, though he will probably get 3-4 years due to his very good 2017, which was likely Fenway Park related. He's been slightly below average defensively at 2B, though he might well improve to about average playing there somewhat regularly.

Last week I went 6-8, and lost yet another eliminator pick. I finished tied for 74th out of 114.

For the season, I am 42-35. This is tied for 88th out of 114.

I'm 3-2 in my eliminator choices. No, this is not very good.

Broncos (e)--

3-9 after the late games. Only loss I considered taking the winner was the Saints, who I hate picking against when they are at home, but I thought the Lions would score a lot. They did, and still are down 14 late.

I went back and forth between the Cards and Bucs. ESPN fans and fans also went 3-9 thus far, so it was a good week to go with upsets.

He was wrongly accused, because women insist those that commit sexual assault do not deserve due process.

The irony? That's exactly what the University of Minnesota did last year. Players were all but randomly chosen, and then suspended...they were not even charged with a crime. When anyone bothered to point out how unfair this was, they were ruthlessly attacked, and the coach was fired.

Why is this so difficult for you rubes to understand?

The Rambling wife and son got home from church tonight, and we all decided to fend for ourselves for supper. The Rambling son took his and went down to this room, and the Rambling wife was making a sub on lettuce for herself (she's wasting away!) and was wondering if she could use the last of the salami, which we try to keep on hand for the Rambling son's lunches he takes to school. I had my phone next to me, so she had me call him and ask him if she could finish the salami.

Rambling son--Yeah?

Heh. What a hypocrite.

He only attacks conservatives. He doesn't give a damn except for politics, so if it hurts the Dems, he just ignores it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I better stop, or he may hear about it and start weeping profusely.

It's easy to change your mind when you don't believe in anything.

These fools think if Trump does it, it must be wrong. The public notices the hypocrisy, and does not forget.

Solid, well thought out beliefs do not change as the wind blows.

I can't believe he fired Comey!

Trump ends subsidies to insurance companies, which, by the way, the courts had ruled was illegal, because it was. The president cannot appropriate money, only Congress can. No one cared though, because shut up.

The do nothing Congress keeps getting more dumped in its lap, and they keep wanting to go raise money and campaign.

That's a shame.

I hate Friday the 13th because it gives superstitious neanderthals a reason to insist they are not only far more intelligent than you, but that you are part of the problem for not being terrified of a random day/date combination that happens every few months.

Shorter version...they got played.

Money quote: There were all sorts of unobjectionable means available for players to take a stand of defiance toward Trump, but they allowed themselves to, in effect, get double-dared into disrespecting the flag.

I'm finding it difficult to believe that a bunch of mostly barely literate athletes were fooled by a strategic thinking businessman/politician who has been doing this for decades.

Growth? Tax cuts?

That's everything the left is terrified of.

If the public ever finds out sending less money to DC works...what do the Dems have left?

The Dems’ argument against Trump’s Obamacare EO are laughable. They’re “worried” that the EO will create more cost-effective alternatives?--Dan Bongino

That's exactly what they're worried about. As bad as it has been, the public, for the most part, can't remember what they paid back before it began.

Remember, it had nothing to do with health care, it was all about surrendering power to the government. It was meant to be step one in the radical, unheard of dream of socialized medicine. In their world, competition and the public getting more for their money is a terrible thing.

Been trying to knock out taxes today, so you've seen scheduled stuff.

As a 1099 executive (a term I enjoy saying immensely), ours tend to be hellish to do myself, even with the help of Turbotax, as the business income and business expenses portions, to be blunt, are painful. I would rather tie a barbed wire tourniquet around my groin than do them, which explains why I usually put it off until 6 months after APR 15th, even though we expect a refund. Even though I'm technically never required to file (since they owe me money), WI and the feds can penalize you if you file after the 6 month extension expires.

Funny, I grew up being a white meat person. Then, a few years ago, following advice from The Chew, I tried boneless skinless thighs, and overcooked them, after putting lots of spices (salt/pepper/garlic powder/onion powder/paprika), and sure enough, it made baked chicken resemble fried, and even though you baked it for about 45 minutes, the thighs were fat/juicy enough to come out tasting pretty good, while chicken breast would have turned into jerky after about half an hour.

Now, when we get a rotisserie chicken, we either throw out the drumsticks or save them along with the carcass for soup, as everyone finds them to dry to eat. We often get the half price ones at WM and use it for chicken salad or casserole, though we still pretty much leave the drumsticks, except for the easy to get at big chunk.

NBC--Look, I don't think you understand. He's a liberal, so...

NBC sat on that Trump audio for 11 years, most of which he was employed by them. Considering their Williams' coverup and rehire, they are about as pathetic as any "news group" that has ever existed...except, of course, for Dan Rather lying and making up "evidence" and not being punished for it.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have lost pretty much any respect they have built up over the years in 24 hours of continuing to deny any knowledge about their poor choice of business partners.

For those wondering about Rose McGowan (link is a bit sultry for a conservative workplace), she's a gorgeous actress who has barely worked at all in the past few might think she's been labeled as "troublesome" in the business.

I pondered wondering aloud if the Crew will chat with Lucroy during my position player piece...I would guess he'll get 3y/$36M, maybe a bit more. That said, some team might go 4 years, despite tons of common sense against depending on a catcher in his year of 35.

Would he consider a 1-2 season deal for more than $12M per, with an option for year 3 with a buyout? Pina is a decent enough guy to start 110 games, but he'd be a top of the line reserve. Luc's OBP was missed. Play a few games at 1B when a lefty is on the mound?

(10/10/2017 03:48:00 PM) - Al

Watching the uncomfortable silence from those on the left about Harvey Weinstein has been quite a sight, as pathetic as his actions over the past decades have apparently been.

Of course, it is obvious to those of us without a guilty conscience that the muted reaction and hesitance to blast the handsy and scumbag behavior would have immediately and unabashedly let any conservative have it...imagine one of the Koch brothers suddenly being accused of assaulting and groping women.

My goodness, Hillary Clinton insisted she could save the masses with gun control laws within a few hours of the Vegas shooting (look how well it's worked in Chicago, you rubes!), but took 5 days to comment on Harvey.

SNL ignored it, despite jokes about him getting huge laughs in the dress rehearsal. No late night host would touch it, after insisting they were the voice for the victims, real or fictional, since last NOV at least.

Several Hollywood elites, always furious and all knowing at every tweet and action, have claimed complete ignorance over the past score of bad and criminal behavior. However, those without skin in the game...or any public statements praising HW...or pictures taken with him, smiling broadly, have been nearly unanimous in simply stating a single phrase:

Everyone knew.

This guy visited the White House a dozen times just because he was a big money donor and organizer. Reports that the old media tried to break this story years ago, and were thwarted by Matt Damon and numerous Hollywood elites and high priced lawyers...all of whom are hellishly high and mighty in their dislike for anyone whose name has an R in front of it. Damon has denied it, though he barely remembering any of long ago and all. Alyssa Milano, who has called for a military coup and insisted the electoral college should just ignore the results of the public and vote for the candidate she wants them to (never once, of course, even imagining this could be used against her favored candidate in the future), said she did not comment on sexual assaults because she knows his wife and kids...not even taking the time to come up with a real excuse. Funny, she never seems to consider Melania or Barron before making up attacks against their hubby and dad.

It's almost as if there's a double standard in place here...but that couldn't be.

The best and most honest take comes from Hale Razor.

ADDED: After pouncing on every opportunity to blast the fella cleaning up his mess, Glenn reminds us...not a peep from Obama.

2018 rotation candidates
Locks barring injury
Zach Davies--It's easy to forget Zach just completed his year of 24. He still might grow into a bit more than what he is now, but he's certainly a solid SP as is. If he could increase his average start length to 6+ (5.78 in '17) and get his ERA and FIP down to 3.75 (3.90 and 4.22), that would be a nice start. Most of all, as a petite RH, I hope he stays healthy.

Jimmy Nelson--That step forward he took is exactly what we hope happens with young pitchers, though we forget he was 28, so it should have been more expected. He was the dictionary definition of improvement, fewer walks, more K's, and fewer HR's. Amazingly, he did this despite a .343 BAbip. No one outside the organization knows how much time he will miss, though the lack of a timeframe tells me it's probably longer rather than shorter...if he was expected back in late APR, for example, I would think Stearns would say that. I think his hesitance is so opposing teams are not sure how much he needs a SP, or at least, not for sure. I think DS will pretty much build his pitching staff all but ignoring Nelson. The one thing I could imagine him doing is adding a "swingman" type pitcher, or simply a lesser quality SP, much like a Tommy Milone last offseason. Depth is always good. Thought they had a decent record in those "bullpen" games, having 1-2 a week may have tired the top relievers.

Chase Anderson--Another SP that moved into another echelon in 2017, HR's cut in half, walks down, K's up. A BAbip of .268 says luck may have helped him more than most as well, so I would not expect him to duplicate his sub 3 ERA. Chase will be 30 next season, but has low miles on his arm, never pushed to high pitch counts or innings.

Next level
Brandon Woodruff--Sailed through the minors quickly, and was far from ineffective in the majors, keeping the team in the game in 6 of 8 starts, though many were with a quick hook that is par for the course with a young SP and a contending team.

Brent Suter--His lack of velocity remains troubling, and his success seems like a mirage, even now, after a very good season, as he averaged 5 IP/S despite not being stretched out for several of them. He doesn't have much ceiling at 27, but if he even resemble last year's numbers, he'll make a lot of money in the game. Little doubt he's penciled into the starting 5 right now. In fact, if they have 5 better SP's to begin 2018, there's a lot to be confident about.

Junior Guerra--Easy to look past Junior, but he looked solid in SEP, and to be honest, his 5.20 ERA as a starter was not awful (138th of 168), just below average, and better than Jordan Zimmerman, Matt Moore, Ian Kennedy, Yo Gallardo, and Homer Bailey. He's also out of options, and considering his stellar 2016 and near minimum salary, would never clear waivers. If my oft repeated prediction of Santana for a SP trade ever takes place, JG would be a good piece to accompany DS, as they can always hope for a return to '16 form.

Josh Hader--Thought I forgot him, didn't you? No one knows what his future role will be, and the reason he's not more likely to start is he seems unlikely to go to the minors to be "stretched out" if he does not begin 2018 in the rotation.

Aaron Wilkerson--Comparable to a RH version of Suter, AW will never get the credit or kudos he is due, because he lacks velocity (granted, he throws about 5 mph harder than Suter), was undrafted, has always been old for his leagues, and has achieved the success he has with guile, control, and location. All that said, the guy sure looks like he can get guys out, and since he has all 3 options left, it seems likely he'll be a versatile piece in the next few seasons.

Taylor Jungmann--Easy to forget about him, but he was one of the best starters in AAA last season, including a 2.59 ERA in AAA, including an off the chart 3.14 ERA in Colorado Springs' home ballpark. Was not brought up in SEP, as the Crew chose others, including the somewhat strange choice of Taylor Williams and others over him.

Corbin Burnes--Very young and very inexperienced (drafted in JUN of '16), but his numbers pop off the page. He doesn't have to be added to the 40 man until after the 2019 campaign, unless he pitches in the majors; but as of right now, everyone would bet the under.

Matt Garza--Was actually quite effective until late in the season, and his days as being a 30 start, 175 IP man are probably in the past anyway. I assume he will retire, or at least take a year off. Highly thought of in the clubhouse and for his work off the field too. His option for $5M in '18 did not take effect due to his total starts, so he is a FA.

Luis Ortiz, Freddy Peralta, and Bubba Derby could be considered later in the season, but are longshots to even be considered early.

Brewers' most likely trade targets
James Paxton
Ervin Santana
Jake Odorizzi
Dan Straily
Chris Archer
Julio Teheran
Tyler Skaggs
Tanner Roark
Jerad Eickhoff
Seth Lugo
Matt Andriese
Martin Perez
Adam Conley
Kendall Graveman
Mike Fiers

Of this group, all have at least a pair of years of team control, and most have 3...Santana is the only one I know only has 2.

The 3 most likely, in my mind?

1. Eickoff
2. Straily
3. Paxton

Most likely "upper tier" FA's
Alex Cobb
Tyler Chatwood
Jamie Garcia
Lance Lynn
CC Sabathia

Tough to find quality SP's when a 37 year old who probably will only play one more season is 5th.  Cobb and Chatwood are both young and good when healthy, and do not overlook that Chatwood has been outstanding outside of Coors. Both might get 4+ years. Garcia and Lynn are quite a bit lower, as they are older, but certainly in anyone's rotation, but not top guys.

Most likely "lower tier" FA's
Brett Anderson
Trevor Cahill
Miguel Gonzalez
Tyson Ross
Hector Santiago

These 5 could get anything from a minor league contract or a 1-2 year agreement. Some are recovering from injury, some have simply been mediocre, some, both. The best of the lot is probably Cahill, who minus a couple bad late season outings with the Royals, has been good as a reliever and a starter since 2015...though he was awful away from his home pitcher's parks in SD and KC last year. I think he'd be a fine signing as a reliever with the ability to start if needed. Ross was very good before being hurt in 2016, and would be a good "if healthy" signing. With such a weak FA class, Santiago and Gonzelez may get a 3rd year just because they take the ball every 5th day and don't suck. I know many folks think guys that can put up a 4.50ish ERA and average 5 innings a start grow on trees, but those types  do have value.

Case in point:

Pitcher A--4.10 ERA, 5.39 IP/S
Pitcher B--3.44 ERA, 5.84 IP/S
Pitcher C--5.03 ERA, 4.87 IP/S

As is often the case, these are not players but groups.

A is the 2018 SP's for MIL overall.

B is the total of Davies, Nelson, and Anderson.

C is A-B, or the 2017 SP's without the top 3, including the "bullpen" games.

Plug in SP's who would pick up a couple more outs and give up a half run less per 9 instead of pitcher C's, and we're talking about hoping to build from a playoff appearance. Given the crapshoot of one game and 5 game playoff series, who knows, they might still be playing.

My favorite is "no one needs a semi automatic weapon."

They talk down to people even though they know nothing about the subject. It's embarrassing.

(10/10/2017 08:00:00 AM) - Al

A wise man has talked about this, albeit, in far less wordage.

Why are they so angry all the time? Most people are not angry all the time, and do not want to be. Hence, they are "othering" themselves...well, I don't want to be like THOSE people, they are not like me.

This explains a lot, actually. She writes for Kimmel, because she's so damn intelligent.

That said, she's very sure we should ban guns, unless, of course, you are a celebrity that can afford a security detail.

The Brewers’ David Stearns-led front office has promoted Karl Mueller to vice president of player personnel, Matt Kleine to director of baseball operations and Scott Campbell to special assignment scout, according to a team announcement. Mueller, a 14-year veteran of Milwaukee’s baseball department, spent the past two seasons in Kleine’s new position. Kleine, who’s entering his 12th year with the Brewers, most recently served as their manager of baseball operations. Campbell, yet another longtime member of the organization (he’s entering his 13th year), was the Brewers’ assistant director of video scouting from 2015-17.--MLBTR

Not sure if this was a created position for Mueller or what.

Meghan McCain debuts on The View, though she was barely recognizable.

I wish her luck. It's like working the devil herself.

EDIT: I must admit, it was funny that she said the View folks had contacted her after she left Fox. We all fully realize one does not leave a popular show without already having a deal in place to join another one...heck, The View doesn't have that many more viewers than Outnumbered.

This is how I see it as well.

Dave Obey was a state legislator for decades. He said he would run again. Sean Duffy announced he was going to run against him. Obey "changed his mind."

Veteran politicos hardly ever run if they feel they will lose...there's no shame in losing to an incumbent, but it's embarrassing to lose to some youngster, and even moreso in a primary.

I was on my phone so I do not have a link, but I admit, I laughed out loud yesterday when I read that when the Obama daughter that interned for Harvey Weinstein, she had the "stressful position of reading unsolicited manuscripts."

Goldberg hits the nail on the head...the NRA is "powerful" because the public agrees with them. Even folks who may not like guns, don't hunt, and have no use for guns...guess what? They think people should have that right.

He's right too, as it is embarrassing that folks think $3M is substantial in politics. That GA Congressional dude spent $50M in that special election and lost going away.

$3M? A rounding error.

There were 153 SP's that had 80 or more IP as a starter last season.

The top 30 had ERA's under 3.50; the mean pitcher was 77th, Jon Lester had a 4.33 ERA. Hence, any SP with a 4.32 ERA or below would have to be called "above average" or at least "had an above average ERA in 2017."

Why are they lying? Because they are a money laundering arm of public unions. The truth has no place here.

This is why they don't get it.

Why am I a contrarian?

Because Stossel is correct. The second the disaster ceases to be life threatening, it becomes a huge money grab. And since the feds are not at all concerned about spending money they do not have, they dole it out by the bushel basket.

In the words of former state senator Dave Obey, when asked if there was a lot of fraud in government.

I'm not a fan of using the military for that matter, except the Coast Guard, whose job description is pretty much exactly this kind of thing. The other armed forces should be busy resting, training, and getting ready to do their job, which is defending the country, not loading and unloading supplies.

Let me get this straight:
-Left whines that Trump needs to do something to help the financially struggling Puerto Rico.
-Trump essentially offers to wipe out deficit, an enormous gesture.
-Left whines that middle class America will be impacted due to this heinous act.
Am I getting my hypocrisy correct?

As a wise man once said, it's easy to change your mind when you don't believe in anything.
By the way, I'd be happy to use my powers that be to help them renegotiate their debt from overspending stupidly, but I would never pay it off. They're bankrupt for a reason, and dismissing it invites states like CA and IL to continue doing the same in hopes of a bail out.

2017 Brewers'  offensive rankings and a look at the everyday positions.

OBP--.322, 17th in MLB (of 30), 10th in NL (of 15)...the NL had a .325 OBP, AL .324, as strange as that is.

I actually thought they would be lower. Being about MLB average with the the pitcher batting is not bad at all.

SLG--.429, 16th in MLB, 9th in NL.

It lowered as the season went on. This is rather low considering how homer friendly Miller Park is.

OPS--.751, 15th in MLB, 10th in NL

10th makes sense, as the two metrics that make it up are 9th/10th, as does 15th, made up of 16th/17th.

runs--732 (4.52 a game), T20th in MLB, T10th in NL. 4.5 sounds good, but it was barely in the top 2/3rd's.

home runs--224, T1st in MLB, 1st in NL. Much of this is Miller Park, as they were 13th and 6th in road HR's.

They were 7th in runs scored at home and 10th on the road in the NL, so that seems low considering how many homers they hit, especially in MIL.

walks--547 (3.38 per game), 11th in NL, 6th in NL. I do not ever recall the Crew being above average in BB's, so I'll take it.

stolen bases--128, 2nd in MLB, 1st in NL. They were successful 76% of the time, 7th in MLB, 3rd in the NL, so they did add runs to their total, without a doubt.

simple runs scored--5467 AB's, .322 OBP, .429 SLG, multiply those together, they "should have" scored 755, and they really scored 732, or 97%. MLB as a whole scored 101% of what they should have, so you can blame the difference on baserunning, lack of speed, bad luck, or climate change.

Catcher--.300/.413, 713 OPS, 9th in the NL, 17th in MLB. Pina was brilliant overall, especially picking off runners and shutting down the running game. Average and near league minimum salary is a pretty good combo. Vogt did nice job adding a lefty bat and seemed beloved. Will be interesting is they feel he is worthy of an arby offer, as I would guess he would receive $4-5M. Or, they could nontender him and hope he returns for a lesser amount. Given his 13% caught stealing number, I don't see an arby offer happening. Bandy was passable, and did a nice job in AAA playing regularly. Susac was injured all season, so he was never close to 100%, so it's difficult to gauge him.

First Base--.360/.544, 906 OPS, 5th in NL, 6th in MLB. Both Thames and Aguilar were excellent against opposite handed pitchers, and decent otherwise. Thames' ability to play LF and RF makes him even more valuable, and his contract is team friendly. Aguilar makes just over the minimum. Shaw and Perez can also play there if needed.

Second Base--The funny thing about 2B? I'd feel very comfortable letting Villar/Sogard/Perez play there again in 2018, and as Stearns pointed out at the presser, it's probably an instance of players having down seasons. Dubon will be added to the 40 man this offseason, and Nate Orf might be as well, though as I have pointed out often, Orf's 27 and profiles as a utility player, though the guy sure gets on base in the high minors. His lack of extra base power means he would probably have to have a .375 OBP to be an average big leaguer...though it would not surprise me if he puts up a .350ish number.

Still, one cannot help but notice how poor the production was. .328/.373, 701 OPS was 26th in MLB and 15th in the NL. The fact Stearns went out of his way to mention how weak the position was and that they plan to take a "long look" at the position this offseason...that would not seem to indicate he plans on standing pat. and hoping for the best. Sogard is a FA, and while he said he wants to return, he will go where the money is best and/or he gets the best opportunity to get some plate appearances. It's hard not to love Sogard, he does everything well for a player with limited athletic ability. He's be a great backup at all 3 infield spots. I hope he returns. Villar was due for some bad luck after having a high BAbip last year, but amazingly, he managed an above average .330 BAbip in '17 as well. He is a liability at any and all defensive positions, though his ability to switch hit and play 6 positions does have value. He'll be in arby this year, so he'll go from being cheap to costing $2-3M. Perez has value for versatility as well, though he is a solid defender, though he lacks range at SS. His OBP is below average, but lots of middle infielders lack that. He's a nice example of a guy I would call "correctly placed"...he's a utility player being used as a utility player, with Counsell setting him up for success mainly versus LHP. He will also be arby eligible, but I see him returning.

A couple weeks ago, I looked at the top 2B prospects that were close to the majors, and the incumbents for those teams, to see if any would be a match. Keston Hiura, the Brewers top pick last summer, is #3, while Isan Diaz is #4, but both are a couple seasons away from MIL...though Hiura might move up really fast, especially if he ends up at 1B or LF. #1 is Scott Kingery of the Phillies, who had a great year split between AA and AAA. PHIL is in rebuilding mode, and their current 2B is Cesar Hernandez, who will be 28 and in his first year of arby. Since 2015, he has a .360/.393 line, is regarded as an above average defender, runs well, and is a switch hitter. He also has versatility, having played SS/3B/CF in the bigs, in addition to 2B.

If Dave Stearns was a mad scientist and had to build a 2B in a lab until either Hiura or Diaz makes it, he might well end up with Hernandez. Is that a trade that makes sense? Of course, but time will tell if it works out. It almost makes too much sense to ever happen.

Another trade option would be Ian Kinsler, who the Crew tried to acquire at the deadline, who has just a single season left on his contract, though he would have to approve any trade. Neil Walker on a 1-2 year stopgap FA deal would be attractive also. Howie Kendrick would as well, though he has been more of a LF/utility player the past couple campaigns.

Shortstop--Arcia ain't going anywhere, and vastly improved his offense this past year. The .339/.421, 760 OPS line was 8th in MLB, and 4th in the NL. He'll just be in his year of 23 next season, so he may well end up being an above average offensive player overall, never mind a middle infielder, which he already is. I have to think he'd be a candidate for an extension in the next year or so.

Third Base--Shaw was outstanding, and even was plenty OK versus southpaws. .339/.511, 850 OPS was 5th in MLB and 4th in the NL. Amazingly, he won't be arby eligible until the '19 season. He did all this despite personal stress.

Left Field--.312/.429, 741 OPS. 18th in MLB, 11th in NL. However, Braun had a .336/.487 line, which would rank 5th/ the problem with LF was when Ryan was not out there.

I keep hearing about a dropoff in Braun's offense, but I admit, I fail to see it. Let's look at his numbers the past 3 seasons:

2015--.356/.498, 854, .322 BAbip
2016--.365/.538, 903, .326 BAbip
2017--.336/.487, 823, .292 BAbip

Any loss of production would seem to be simply bad luck, or I suppose, more teams shifting and being aggressive in doing so.  His drop off in OBP may well be related to being pitched around less because of Shaw hitting behind him (he was walked intentionally twice in '17, 10 times in '16).

Braun is not likely to play in 150+ games in the future, but his offense is not real high on my worry list either.

CENTER FIELD--.304/.405, 709 OPS. 24th in MLB, 15th in NL, Broxton played about 2/3rd's of the time in CF, with 6 others (mostly Phillips and Perez) getting time there. Keon hits LHP very well (823 career OPS), is a plus defender, and runs extremely fast. He walks a lot too, meaning he takes a lot of pitches. He does seem to run a bit more extreme hot and cold than most.

Obviously, Brinson and Phillips are on the cusp of the majors, as both had spectacular seasons in AAA, though it's good to remember it was at altitude, and even most of the road games were in the very offensive friendly western PCL ballparks. But, considering both are 23, 4 years younger than Keon, it's easy to imagine them being the future, with Keon moving on elsewhere. The thing is, while Broxton is a great athlete and has good pop; he is a 27 (28 next year) year old below average offensive CF, and his trade value would not be high. With those 2 youngsters in the mix, never mind Corey Ray probably a couple years away, any CF the Crew would bring in would almost certainly be a stopgap, a veteran on a 1 year contract. I see them hanging onto Keon and trying to use him in a manner that accentuates his strengths. Perez and Villar (if JV remains in MIL) could also be utilized, at least in the short term, if Phillips and/or Brinson start '18 in AAA, or struggle.

RIGHT FIELD--.370/.498, 868 OPS, 4th in MLB, 3rd in the NL. Santana broke out in '17 (my guesses of Santana and Knebel on TMJ with Justin were, dare I say, some of my best work), and he just turned 25. While not overly speedy, he stole 15 of 19 bases, and while he's never going to be confused for a Gold Glover, he catches the ball and has a plus arm. He will not be eligible for arby until '19. Two ways to look at this...he's a keeper of mammoth proportion, or his trade value will never be higher.

The Brewers are loaded with OF's in the bigs and in AAA. Stearns has proven himself to like athletic, versatile players. The current trend in MLB is to have more than one OF on the field that qualifies as a CF...many teams even have 3. I have suggested so many times I see Santana being dealt, it's almost become a mantra. The thing is, I like Domingo, a lot, actually. He walks plenty, works the count, and smacks the ball (40% of his hits were for extra bases). I just think RH hitters with power are a bit overvalued, because they are in short supply. Every team can afford him, and he is under team control for 4 more seasons.

Without him, the Brewers still have Braun/Brinson/Phillips/Broxton/Perez/Thames for '18. Stearns dealt Khris Davis not because he thought Davis was not a solid player and likely to improve...but because he had a replacement...his name was Domingo. Finally, everyone seems to agree the Brewers will add a SP of some merit this offseason. Seriously, Keon Broxton is not going to bring back anything resembling that. Santana might, especially if paired with a cheap SP.

Allow me to add this thought, as it has kind of has become what I am known for. I am a contrarian by nature, because people are usually wrong. That's oversimplified, but it's pretty accurate.

---For decades, I have insisted a "closer" is simply overvalued, as pitching the 9th inning is no more difficult than the 7th or 8th. The pendulum has swung over to me, as many baseball people (including Stearns, who seems to like nothing more than dealing a middle reliever after picking up a few saves to others). He's had the job 2+ years, and has happily traded KRod, Jeffress, and Thornburg (and highly thought of set up man Will Smith), and arguably won all 3 (or 4) deals by wide margins.

On that tangent, a year ago, I said I did not feel Braun would be traded. I was almost the only one. Why? Because he HAD to be traded before he gained his 10/5 rights. I disagreed, saying he already had a very limited no trade clause; and that held down his value so much, along with his good relationship with Mark A; he would stay.

Fast forward to now. No one thinks Braun will be traded. I am wary. I think he would only agree to go to one team...the Dodgers, who he was almost traded to late last AUG (or was in JUL?) as it just fell through at the last second. Everyone is so confident, it truly makes me wonder. Also, no one but me has Santana being dealt either. many guys you going to have in CF? Brinson, Broxton, Phillips...even with a platoon or time share, there's an extra guy there, and Keon is really the only one you can justify not playing every day, or most days, at some level.

I just think either Braun or Santana will be traded. The OF depth will be taken advantage of, and dealing young players with 6+ seasons of team control is not Stearns' MO.

Not sure if the youngsters are ready, you say? A quick glance at the FA OF's shows Curtis Granderson, Matt Holliday, Cameron Maybin, Jayson Werth, Carlos Gomez, Seth Smith, Melky Cabrera, and John Jay available...several of which may well sign one year contracts; due to age, injury concern, and so on. Several others will probably be nontendered. Seriously, Adam Lind hit nicely and played a respectable LF for the Nats...filling an OF opening is not like filling a rotation spot.

Back with the pitchers later...

The funny thing is, I was called names by both sides when I suggested a 24 week compromise a year ago or so. It just makes so much sense. It gives plenty of time to decide, yet it avoids the stigma of ripping a child that could easily survive out of the womb.

When people who purport to start a conversation begin it by telling me that I suck, that they want me dead, that my views are utterly evil and that I should shut up, I'm not particularly inclined to engage in a conversation, other than to suggest they go fuck themselves.

The same people who want to take away our right to keep/bear arms also want to limit our speech, limit our ability to practice our religion and eliminate our basic due process rights. Funny how the problem is always - always - normal Americans having rights.

We should totally disarm ourselves at the behest of these loving, sane leftists who feel comfortable publicly wishing death on us and our families. I'm sure they'll be much nicer once we're at their mercy.--Kurt Schlichter

I can't say I care a whole lot about Carolina, but I sure would like to see them buy or get a deal with a AAA club that has a neutral field and is somewhat close and near an airport to ease travel concerns and get guys up quickly when needed.

I found this while looking for something else. I wish they still these, though we would have to have them sent electronically to phones and tablets. 10 cents is a bit over a $1 today, but I'm sure they could make them 59 or 79 cents due to the lack of paper needed.

Many insist that today's population lacks the attention span to read, but many folks would love to sit down and read for 15-30 minutes, but have no desire to read a novel or textbook. And, even better, if it is brief, most people would be willing to sit down and learn about a topic. For example, I have no desire to read a book on Physics or Chemistry...but if you just focus on basics and the interesting parts, I'd read about it for 20 minutes before going to sleep.

These were similar, and another great idea.
