Counsell spouting the company line, says he can split 4 spots by 5 guys and it's no problem. In reality, he's right, as he'll have to manage the roster he's given as best he can.

The one thing I would really hate to see is the Crew lose Aguilar for his market value, which is what you would expect from a guy in his season of 28, weak half of a 1B or DH platoon, with no options left and a passable option as an everyday 1B. The Crew picked him up as a waiver claim, and they could easily lose him the same way.

Right now, Counsell is on record as saying he'll have a 4 man bench most of the season. One will be a backup catcher, and unless traded or injured, two will be Perez and Sogard, and in the scenario CC alluded to, the final spot would be Santana.

Of course, a dozen things could happen between now and then; FA signings, trades, injuries, and so on.

Obama used an alias to email Hillary's unclassified gmail account 20+ times (and then insisted he knew nothing about it) and Lynch used an alias to conduct official business.

We were in the best of hands.

Scott Adams is even smarter than Trump.

That said, Trump is an absolute master at getting people to think exactly how he wants them to. Anchors have been caught on several occasions saying "crooked Hillary" even when the teleprompter reads "Hillary."

I never read about it until long after the election, but the day one of the lefty alphabet networks hosted a roundtable discussing whether Hillary was more "crooked" or more "heartless" was the day we should have known he was going to win.

It also makes Christian Bethancourt's role as AAA C with major league experience (Nottingham may be there or at AA) more important...though it would be after they released one anyway.

Bandy is cheap and good defensively, so I doubt he'll clear waivers.

(2/28/2018 11:10:00 AM) - Al

There's 2 ways to look at may make it very difficult for Vogt to make the team, and be very good for Bandy.

Or, it could allow the Crew to start Vogt on the DL and when he's close to 100%, go down to AAA for "rehab" and, after a few weeks, make the final decision.

There's nothing wrong with Amazon, we use them too on occasion. That said, WM all but bends over backwards to get stuff to you incredibly quickly, and has free shipping if you hit $35, which is easy as pie (we always have an order "open" and often end up adding cookies for the Rambling boy or Atkins bars for myself to get it to $35).

Bob Nightengale of MLBN reports Brewers' execs told him they'd love to add 2 more starters, and talk to Cobb and Lynn regularly, while hoping Arrietta somehow falls in their lap, or possibly once again trying to work a trade.

That is almost word for word with what friend of Ramblings High Heat 19 told us a couple weeks ago.

155 games on FSW, 7 on FS1.

I never thought I'd see the day when every single Brewers' game was televised. Good golly.

I recall living in Eau Claire in the early 90's, and while the flagship station carried 40-60 games on TV, the EC/Lacrosse channel, which was a ABC affiliate (if memory serves), only carried about 15-20, many on weekend afternoons. After a softball game one night, I was invited to a get together, and I had to decide whether or not to go or just stay home and watch the Brewers play the A's (it was such a hard decision, I still recall the opponent, about 25 years later). I grumpily decided to attend, and while I'd like to say I met the Rambling wife or something, I went, and only a couple people showed up, to go along with the 2 that were having the party, so we ended up playing cards and ordering Dominos.

This is one of many examples why when someone tells me they're single, I feel sorry for them.

This, of course, is why there's no female policemen and FBI agents. That said, I do hear a few have even started venturing outside the kitchen and wearing shoes, though I can't say I'm a fan*.

That and the fact their "ladies' time" prevents them from being able to comprehend the difference between a school shooter from say, a meanie that took more than one piece of candy from the big bag at Halloween*.

The irony about CNN is, they can put their foot in their mouth every minute of every day (and they do), but the old media and the left (hence, I repeat myself) still acts like they are a legit source.

"Those who defend the easy accessibility of assault weapons should meet these families and explain why that makes sense," President Obama tut-tutted last week. But the moralizer-in-chief failed to make sense himself, calling for the outlawing of a category of devices that doesn't really exist.

"The term assault weapon itself, of disputed origin, is a thorn in the side of gun enthusiasts, who point out that the differences between 'assault weapons' and other semi-automatics are largely cosmetic and don't increase the gun's lethality," explains Slate senior editor Rachael Larimore, in a piece taking the media to task for reporting and editorializing on guns without getting the facts straight.

"Because these guns are really just ordinary rifles, it is hard for legislators to effectively regulate them without banning half the handguns in the country (those that are semiautomatic and/or have detachable magazines) and many hunting rifles as well," adds UCLA law professor and gun control advocate Adam Winkler, who has actually done his research.

I don't think the left realizes it, but this is pretty much how much of the country sees it.

Calling for a gun ban and using terms like assault rifle, which has no legal definition, kind of cement it. Also, note how quiet they've been on Trump saying we need a better background check system. They don't want to even talk about solving that, they want to excite their base and talk about banning guns.

Remember, the Chelsea Clinton gaffe...she proudly told a liberal group in California they needed to elect her mom so Hillary could appoint far left justices to the Supreme Court. The applause was deafening.

The old media pretended it never happened, because they knew it was a disaster in much of the nation. Whenever it was brought up, they would use words like "misquoted" or "taken out of context."

Of course, they have no idea they are selling guns and NRA memberships. The funniest quote was to "boycott the NRA" they own grocery stores or a lawn service.

Notes from the first 2 days of spring:

--Hiura, all he does is hit. I told Justin on WTMJ last fall I would not be surprised to see him up in SEP of this season, especially if the Crew is in contention.  Errors may delay his eventual everyday status, at least as a 2B.

--Remember the name Shane Opitz. He's not going to make the team, but has played 6 non battery positions and is athletic, runs well, takes walks, and is a lefty bat. If they end up trading Perez or Villar (I think Sogard is all but guaranteed a spot) and then have an injury, a guy like Opitz could be brought up to fill a bench spot in MAY/JUN.

--Orf could well be the competition for said bench spot in that case, but is not much of a SS, to say the least

--Broxton is kind of a forgotten man, but given he can play every spot and hits RH, would be my pick for 4th OF if Santana is dealt. I assume they will want Phillips playing every day, at least in the first half. Brett is 5 years younger than Keon, and his ceiling is vastly higher.

--Wren won't make the team going north either, but might make it up as a LH reserve during the campaign. He has speed and a contact bat which would make him a nice fit.

--Dubon keeps being overlooked by many due to his lack of pop and overall offense, but he's very good on D, very young, and very athletic. He's closer than many think. I've heard several say he was one of the 3-4 the Crew all but refused to discuss in trades, along with Hiura and Burnes. Middle infielders are always very much in demand.

--Taylor Williams seems likely to begin the year in the minors, but might be one of the mix that bounces up and down to keep guys fresh.

It ain't about preventing anything. It's just like Obamacare, everyone knew it wouldn't work. It was all about getting the rubes to give up more of their rights. Since OC was a complete failure (unexpectedly, of course), they have moved onto the next topic of the day, and decided that the only way to fix it is more laws, more regulations, and more government (because, they're doing such a good job on everything else).

At some point, you will hear that, surprisingly, it turns out all this extra intervention has a lot of "unexpected" costs involved, so that will mean more money will need to be taken from those who earned it, in the name of "protecting" the children, the elderly, and those other poor souls. And what happens when the next incident takes place?

More. More cash needed. More rules needed. More benefits for those government employees that are failing to help anything. More employees needed, because those in house are overwhelmed, because nothing is more exhausting than coming in late, leaving early, long lunches, and 4 day weekends.

Pushing papers to the next overworked and underpaid overqualified comrade in the next cubicle often leads to carpal tunnel syndrome and other hard to prove they don't exist maladies that, miraculously, did not exist until the exact moment disability payments began.

The result? More cash needed.

Just a quick thought...I just looked at the Pirates' new roster and depth chart. If they can get some young pitching, that might be a .500 team. Even if they don't, they're not bad, in that 75-78 wins.

The players they lost were overpaid and their best days were in the past. They should probably just go "all in" and send Harrison, Freese, Marte, Polanco, and Mercer off for younger talent...none of them are franchise worthy or huge fan favorites.

Al, I don't know why you keep insisting the old media is completely out of touch?

I had a friend on Facebook say this week that while many of his friends were in tears or depressed about Billy Graham's death, several used it as an opportunity to say BG was a horrible person, because he was a Christian conservative.

The irony? My friend is also a Christian conservative. He said, "It was as if they were all so happy with Graham's demise, they forgot they were insulting me and many others by association."

Why are the awards shows ratings in the toilet? It's because about half the country realizes when some singer or actor calls the president a name, they are really calling Trump voters a name.

I drove over to Menards (save big money at Menards!) to buy 3 bags of ice melt, since most places are out, and if there's one thing I enjoy, it's throwing a chemical onto the sidewalk and driveway so I can do less manual labor.

As I tossed 3 bags in the cart, another gent was doing the same, and a friend of his walked up. One asked the other what he was doing this weekend, and the other said, "When the wife gets done with work at noon, we're gonna go buy a couple more guns at Fleet Farm before they ban them, and then we're heading up to the cabin. Finally got enough snow to snowmobile, sight in our new guns, and relax. Staying until Monday night." When the other guy asked how business was, the reply was "Jesus. Booked up through the summer. I don't know, maybe fall, I haven't checked lately. My God, barns and houses are going up faster than I've ever seen."

I paid for my salt like product and wandered out to the car. While throwing them in the trunk, I thought to myself, if I was left of center, my whole day and weekend would be ruined. It's everything they hate in a single paragraph.

Badgers win versus a closely matched Northwestern team. Playing their best ball of the season, and could probably have a nice run in the NIT, with some good game experience for their young team. Just lost a couple too many coin flips early on.

I sure hope the team returns nearly intact next season, as they only lose Moesch, who's a solid role player, but certainly not a difference maker.

2/22/2018 08:36:00 PM

(2/22/2018 06:03:00 PM) - Al

They're doing the exact opposite of what they should be doing.

This is why they keep losing. They just can't help themselves. I read today that CNN is going to accomplish what many of us thought was out pace Obama as the greatest gun salesman in history.

Giving students slanted questions to ask. Cheering about banning and confiscating weapons. Randomly yelling out violent threats to the beautiful Dana Loesch (who, as many pointed out today, was the only adult in the room for much of the evening). Asking why anyone needs a semiautomatic weapon, apparently, not realizing any gun that does not require reloading after a single shot; is semiautomatic.

And, as I have pointed out many times before, the insistence that guns be banned because they "look scary" is an embarrassment that makes them look like complete fools.

As Miller said, it was better and more effective than any ad the NRA could ever hope to put together.

I will end with the past few days, we have never seen more proof of a simple statement:

If they say "I'm not talking about banning guns," or "I'm not talking about confiscating guns," that's exactly what they want to do. The one good thing about a tragedy like this? People get emotional and mistakenly tell the truth. How many people have you seen on social media say, "Who cares about the 2nd Amendment? Who cares about the Constitution?"

It never occurs to them, even for a second, mind you, that if it can be changed or ignored on the spur of the can be changed or ignored again.

Out of the cliches and muddle, the most interesting note to me was Counsell saying the team will carry 13 pitchers and 12 position players *most* of the time this upcoming season.

That's not a surprise at all, for a couple reasons:

1. They did last season.

2. This year, they have added Boone Logan, who is maybe not a traditional loogy, but is somewhere between a loogy and a middle reliever who can get hitters from both sides of the plate out. Hence, it makes perfect sense that they will not carry fewer arms after adding a guy expected to usually only pitch to a single batter or two.

3. This is why the Crew has stressed versatility. 4 bench spots means 1 backup catcher. That only leaves 3 more, to cover the other 7 positions on the diamond and PH/PR.

Of course, *most* of the time is not all the time. There will be times when they have a MON/THU off, or a THU/MON off, in which it is possible the 5th SP will be skipped and added to the bullpen (or, depending on who the 5th SP is, sent down to the minors). Other times, the bullpen will be well rested, due to days off and long starts.

An armed guard or 2-3, depending on the size of the school, would eliminate 90% of them. Remember, these guys are cowards. The mere chance they'll get shot just by walking in with a gun will make most of them cower in fear and spend more time on their fantasy Dungeons and Dragons team.

Santana being traded before opening day 0-10%
Walker being 2B 10%
Brewers getting Archer 15%
Brewers getting Cobb 100%

Brewers getting Cobb before Monday 80%
Brewers getting Lynn 20%
Brewers getting Arrieta on a 5 year deal 15%
Brewers getting Arrieta on a 1 year deal 20%--High Heat 19

By the looks of this, HH19 seems to think the Crew's deal that fell through with ARI for Drury was the main one they were working on, and have now decided to hang onto him, barring a much improved offer.

Walker not expected back. I still feel this number is higher. In fact, I assume the sticking point is length of contract. If Neil would agree to 2 years, this may be done in 5 minutes.

Surprised to see Archer so low. Burnes must have been a key sticking point.

He has been all but sure about Cobb for a week now. Is it possible he's looking for a place in Milwaukee, or scheduled to do so soon?

Note the chance they end up with both Cobb and another SP. That would shock the world, wouldn't it?

KC almost certainly about Merrifield and/or Duffy.

TB...Archer? Other young SP's?

OAK...they have been said to be interested in Santana, makes sense for young pitching...they also have one year left of Jed Lowrie, who is very versatile.

MIN? Hmm. I do not know. They have been actively looking for pitching since last season ended. Dozier? Seems odd the Twins would deal him when they're looking to contend.

Friend of Ramblings High Heat 19 reports:

Brewers made it clear to the Rays. Burnes will not be part of a package for Archer.

I missed this yesterday...Counsell says Braun will only play LF and 1B. Yelich will get reps at all 3 OF spots this spring.

Yelich is not known for having a strong arm, to say the least (the Fans Scouting Report gave him a 31...Khris Davis ranks an 8, for comparison.

Other than Davis, I can't find a Brewers' OF that scored that poor of an arm for the last several seasons, except for Eric Thames, who scored a 43.

That would certainly be 5 players for 3 OF spots and 1B, and all but leave Aguilar, who was a very inexpensive, effective and productive last year (albeit, one who may be a bit limited because of his splits) out of the mix.

Friend of Ramblings High Heat 19 reports today:

--The concept of trading Santana has just hit 0.

He said they have been talking to the DBacks the past couple days, so I assume acquiring Souza from TB has eliminated their want of Domingo. Now reporting Brandon Drury almost became a Brewers' player today. Drury is young and versatile, so he certainly fits the Stearns' model of desirability.

Broxton and Aguilar are being shopped. Listening to Phillips as well.

I doubt Aguilar has much value, and Broxton's is limited also, cdertainly compared to Santana. However, to a team that is in need of a 1B/DH with pop and/or an athletic CF/4th OF, it might be a perfect fit. Both inexpensive too, with years of team control.

Santana as a backup would be clumsy, as he would obviously not play CF, and make Yelich bounce back and forth, but Counsell did not have a problem with that, saying Yelich would play CF and a corner spot while Cain would be the everyday CF.

HH19 also reports the Crew will probably wait until later in the spring to deal from their surplus, as they protect themselves against injury and also possibly have other clubs suffer injuries to create a need.

Rays continue to unload vets. Archer, Kiermaier, Colome left.--Heyman

Very unlikely, of course, as it would demand Braun move full time to 1B, and Thames and Santana be dealt, but an OF of Yelich/Kiermaier/Cain might well be the best defensively in many of our lifetimes.

An Archer/Kiermaier package would take about 5-6 young players/prospects, as both are signed long term for less than market value. Broxton could fit right in, as Kiermaier is a lefty hitter who is far better versus RHP, meaning Phillips could easily be included.

Dude B, career-----------.353/.468, 821, 25

---end of gap

Hosmer signed for $144M guaranteed last night.

Dude A is Corey Dickerson, who was DFA'd last night.

Dude B is Domingo Santana, who is certainly available on the trade market, for a price.

So, is Hosmer overrated, or is Dickerson underrated? Or, is the answer yes to both?

Guerra would have to be awful this spring to not make the team, as he is out of options and would be claimed by a half dozen clubs out of pure principle.

Josh Harrison complains more today. As I always point out, if you want to ensure you don't end up on a rebuilding or retooling team, just sign 1 year contracts. If not, shut the hell up.

My admiration and desire to add him is well known, but I have to wonder if the Crew prefers Walker or Kipnis because they are LH hitters. Counsell not only does not mind a platoon, he has said southpaws have a huge advantage in his mind because 75-80% of SP's are RH.

Brewers still "Hot" on Cobb. Possible Popcorn by the end of next week. Brewers want to see Archer pitch before "upticking" pursuit.--High Heat 19

I expect Cobb to end up in MIL, and do does friend of Ramblings HH19.

The pursuit for Archer would seem to be very limited, as probably only 3-4 teams are in a position to both have the young players the Rays would want and be in a time of contention in the success cycle. The estimated deal HH19 said before; Santana, Phillips, Burnes, and Peralta, is not just incredibly painful, but many clubs have no way of putting together a package that involves 3 top 150 prospects and a pre arby, everyday starter.

2/18/2018 01:47:00 PM

(2/18/2018 12:05:00 PM) - Al

That's what I assumed would happen.

I doubt if the Brewers will increase their offer much, as supposedly, they were very close to their max. That said, they might "rework" it, as TB appears to be entering a rebuild mode, and may prefer younger prospects to Santana.

Santana being flipped for prospects, or a package with prospects and a veteran (like Jason Kipnis); or some type of 3 team deal, may be needed to make it work.

Nick Franklin has an opt out on June 15th if not in the bigs.

I would assume he has a "handshake agreement" that if a team calls the Crew and says they want him in the majors, the Crew will either bring him up or trade him. He's past the point where he's a real prospect, at this point.

Franklin will make $700K if he plays in MIL. That seems like a lot, until you realize the minimum is $545K.

1. Rare to see a knee issue like this in such a young player. The 82 game grind at such a young age, when he was still growing, is likely to blame.

2. I don't think he should probably be practicing at all. Do sets and walk throughs, then treatment and medically approved weight and pool work.

Meghan McCain's hubby relinks to one of his essays on guns from 5 years ago...still the same things being said. Obama didn't even try to fix it, as the problem is one of mental illness.

The irony? The folks trying to fix it don't even understand the AR15 is identical to hunting rifles, except it has plastic grips which look scary and military like to some, but do not help kill. Banning them would effectively ban all rifles...and last time I checked, handguns are far, far more often used in homicides.

Might just depend on if Vogt is throwing better. He hinted very strongly late last offseason he was not healthy, so hopefully, he will be better. This reminds me of the Rambling son losing cheeseburgers from his school lunch because it made "too much protein" in the meal, per Shelly Obama's strict nutritional standards (because, as all us rubes know, no one understands pediatric subsistence better than a middle aged lawyer).

Note that they can still choose a cheeseburger, but since it's not listed on the menu, most folks won't bother asking. I assume many will substitute a hamburger in its stead, meaning Mickey D's will save 5-7 cents in the short run, though possibly upsetting both parents and child customers in the long run.

Brewers sign Wade Miley to a minor league contract.

I liked Santiago's signing by the White Sox, and Miley is even better. Very good pitcher to bring in on a minor league deal.

Miley struggled with his control last year, but has pitched into some bad luck (and likely, bad Orioles' OF defense, as they always build offense first), as his FIP has been lower than his ERA all except in 2017.

Excellent depth piece, in case the team struggles with injuries and some Wilkerson/Suter types are ineffective. He has better numbers versus LH bats, but not good enough you'd expect him to be effective as a loogy.

EDIT: Miley did get incentives put in for games started, games pitched, and innings, so he feels the bullpen is an option for him.

I took it to work and hung it up on our supply cabinet, and as I did I asked one of my department heads if my head was really that big. She replied, "No," very quickly, and you could tell, she had no idea I was joking. Apparently, she thought I was serious in wondering if my head was 4 feet long.

Brandon Jennings signs with the Bucks' G League team, the Herd.

Jennings just finished his season overseas, I think in China. The Bucks are unlikely to bring him up, as they do not really have a spot on the 15 man roster, which also makes them unlikely to take part in the buyout market.

Cobb is more likely to be a Brewer than Arrieta......but don't rule Arrieta out, just yet.--High Heat 19

As I have said, I prefer Cobb.

The Astro blueprint is the Brewer's blueprint. 5 tool position players who "know" how to handle a bat. 5 "B" rated starters > than the 2 "A" starters and hope. Also having a spectacular bullpen. See Hader.--HH19

We have seen Stearns look for athletes who can hit, especially versatile ones able to play several positions. I have always been a believer in having SP depth rather than a couple top guys.

Must be High Heat 19's presence.

This is why I don't chase away folks, except of course, with my cold heart.

Just a quick reminder to bookmark Ramblings while you are here. If you could, please turn off your ad blocker for the site too. I get a fraction of a cent for every visitor, but only if you turn that off. For example, yesterday, I "earned" about $0.0005 per visitor. I'll let you do the math, but it's a quantity business (hence, why the quality is so low). The ads are minimal and not intrusive, are safe for work, and are never for adult oriented sites.

If you don't, you are part of the problem.

(2/13/2018 01:20:00 PM) - Al

Let's take a look at High Heat 19's rumors (and follow him, you morons).

--Has been talk for Broxton for Cotton. Brewer's value talent over stats.
That is Jharel Cotton, a young SP for the A's, who was rumored a while back by Rosenthal. At this point, he'd probably enter the battle for the bottom of the rotation, or as a swingman.
I really like Broxton as a reserve OF, as he's a RH bat who hits LHP at a plus level, so he can give Yelich a day off, and is very capable of playing all 3 OF spots. He's a decent option as a PH, and a terrific choice as a PR. Perhaps the reason I'd like to see him stay the most? Have you ever seen a better defensive OF than Yelich/Cain/Broxton late in the game? Cain and Braun are likely to miss plenty of games, due to injury and rest (casuals have not yet noticed that Lorenzo has missed almost as many games as Braun, because they're too busy being casual). Of course, as of today, Santana and Phillips are still in the picture as well, not to mention Perez and Thames. Kyle Wren is not on the 40, but was invited to spring training and while he lacks power, seems to possess all the qualities of a bench OF.

Boston has been keeping tabs on Santana. Boston wants to be notified before any trade involving Santana to another team. Santana's inquiring suitors since Nov. have been Boston, Cleveland, Oakland, Detroit, Tampa, Texas and Washington. In no particular order.
I expected BOS and PHIL to be the top suitors, though the Phillies interest has been minimized by signing Carlos Santana as a FA. Ironically, the Tribe is probably looking to replace him, at least partially, with Domingo. We've heard about the A's, as we often do, were in the mix, as they are for any bargain cheap bargain. He's been mentioned as fodder for Archer (and even Odorizzi). TEX? DC? DET? Not so much. Probably not a surprise 6 of the 7 clubs are in the DH league.

Brewers and other teams feel Archer will be dealt before opening day. Rays playing keep away and want best possible deal. Brewer's will not sell farm for Archer. Staring contest as of now.
Supposedly, the Rays asked for a huge package of Santana, Phillips, Burnes, and Peralta for Archer (though, perhaps another player(s) may have come back with Archer); so there are probably only a few teams that could stand to lose that much talent, never mind have such a group to give. There would seem to be plenty of room for compromise there, but as of yet, we have not seen it. The Rays are right on the brink of borderline contention, so at some point, we may them become more willing sellers.

Don't buy the "Rebuild is Over". Buy "We purchase talent at a discount".
Small market teams are perennially looking in the discount bargain bin to fill roster spots, and no one did it as well as Doug Melvin did. Stearns has continued the habit, though he has lost many of them as he tried to sneak them to the minors (part of this is because the 40 man is far more full of prospects than it was for most of Doug's tenure, little room to wait for the perfect time to outright them). Of course, not all discount talent is on the waiver wire, sometimes you can find a player available because his team is looking to cut payroll (earlier this offseason, I saw David Robertson of the Yankees as a possibility, but at $13M and signed only through 2018; given Stearns declined to offer arby to Jared Hughes for about $2.5M; that makes little sense, it would appear).

There's a false sense that when a rebuild is over you overpay a multitude of players to win this year. Brinson was not viewed high in the Brewers FO. Cain was a bargain, as he turned down a higher offer, which has never been reported.

Stearns has shown no desire to pick up players only under team control for a season, except at the deadline last year, with Swarzak and Walker. Cain told writers he wanted to return to MIL as soon as he became a FA, but he did not think they would have interest. He said as soon as the Brewers called, he told his agent to "make it happen." Think how disappointed the team that apparently offered more (SF?) must have been when they found out they lost him to Milwaukee, an unglamorous city in flyover country.

Some Brewer's FO feel that Yelich could be the next Robin Yount going forward. They will never say it as it may take away from Yount's legacy. But they see a similarity in Yelich's and Yount's skills and even their personalities are scary similar.

Never heard that before. Yelich is that type of player though, sort of an "easy athlete," as it appears everything comes easy for him, while guys like me always had to be at the top of their game to be mediocre in beer league softball.

No one will ever say it, of course, but part of the appeal of Yelich and Archer are they are already signed to below market deals. Very few pre arby players would even consider signing such a contract with the Brewers (Braun and Lucroy are the only ones I recall in 2 decades).

Brewer's have a plan for Arrieta, and it's not what you think. Just know that Stearn's is extremely methodical. I will no longer divulge further into Arrieta until he is signed. He may or not be a Brewer. Speculating will give you a headache. So don't do it.

I have hoped for Cobb and I continue to do so. He's younger and will come cheaper, both in annual average salary and in length of contract. He won't be projected to pitch as many innings, but that's why he'll sign for less.

Of course, the left continues to rail on about how "hateful" the right is; but it sure seems that...including what certainly appears to be a genetic by marriage attack on a mom of 5...might be a bit of an exaggeration.

One industry source said the market conditions are now ripe for the Brewers and Twins to each land one of Arrieta, Cobb and Lynn. HH19 emails to point out others agree with what he has heard.

So much discussion on the FA SP as well as possible SP trade targets, one gets the feeling there is a move or two soon to take place.

ADDED: This was the full email HH109m sent earlier.

Brewers knew from half way thru that the Cubs and Dodgers were Darvish first choices. And if the Crew wasn't getting Darvish which they knew, they were going to make sure the Cubs paid dearly. Decreasing the Cubs chances of acquiring significant mid summer acquisition in particular pitching. Where as the Brewers look to big players this summer and have already talked to teams about a big midsummer trade.
