Counsell said Knebel was unavailable tonight after pitching in the first 2 games of the series. Craig willing to punt a game early to keep Corey healthy. In that case, I'm surprised someone else did not pitch the 8th with Albers for the 9th, though I did not notice id Matt may have pitched to the heart of the order.

Aaron Wilkerson injures his non throwing shoulder swinging the bat, will miss about a month.
Seriously would consider having minor league pitchers at AA and AAA (pitchers do not hit in A ball and below) take 2 strikes and then sac bunt even with no one on base. The injuries the organization has sustained is ridiculous.
Bubba Derby will take his spot on the AAA roster.

You'll have to trust me, but I guessed the lineup 100%. Just figured with a RHP going, Thames and Sogard would start, and Bandy would catch game 3.
I got who they would sub in for; confident for Thames, lucky with Sogard. After only 3 games, every position player has started a game except Jesus (insert your own Easter joke here).

Everyone was too afraid of being called a racist to point out it was the exact opposite of what might have worked.
You don't lower premiums and cost by eliminating competition. You don't help unhealthy folks pay less for coverage by making insurance companies assume everyone is unhealthy.
Of course, the fact it failed miserably means it worked perfectly. The sad thing is, the best plan the left could come up with was to make a plan so bad it would fail miserably and the public would welcome a socialist style health plan...because the VA has been such a roaring, unquestioned success.
The GOP voted against it because they knew it would not work. The Dems voted against tax cuts because they knew it would work. The fact one party openly roots against the country they represent, well, you can decide for yourself.

By far the best part of Braun's HR from last night is watching the faces of the Padres' fans behind the plate when that ball is hit, in a no doubt whatsoever manner, as everyone in the ballpark knew it was long gone.

Many moons ago, I was a person that respected law enforcement and the military.
At some point, like those that proudly stand for the national anthem, love the Constitution, and believe strongly in capitalism, my beliefs are often mocked; many would say they are small town, or kind of hokey.
So be it. Roseanne Barr recently said something I've been saying for 2-3 decades, but for some reason, it was considered far more profound when she said it, "I still believe in the same things I always have...everyone else moved far out, you lost everyone."
Police officers are not perfect. They make mistakes, just like the rest of us. Those errors are replayed over and over, but they are very rare. I'll take my chances with law enforcement every day of the week.
Thank you for your service, sir.

Fox is like McDonald's or Best Buy...they are a brand, and a successful brand. People don't eat at McDonald's because they enjoy their apple pies. They eat there because they enjoy the taste, the service, and their cleanliness. That's good, because in the TV biz, that apple pie might leave, or behave poorly.

Jennings signed in ML, in part, due to the fact he lives in West Des Moines (DM is one of the most underrated cities in the midwest, by the way, a nearly perfect midsize city), Iowa. Due to his improved splits the past few years, Tom considers him mainly as a loogy.
Also in the Jennings piece, Nick Franklin is going to go to Biloxi to get some innings in as a catcher, to be a more all around utility player. If Nick can be even a below average C defensively, he could easily find a job as a team's 25th man, even moreso on a team in which the #1 backstop will catch 130+ games a season.

As with most 1 run games, I'd much rather be lucky than good. Not sure if Choi scores on that base hit if Myers doesn't misplay it.
Even moreso, anytime you can get a DP with the bases loaded, you're living well.
No one even remembers them, but the Crew probably wins 3-1 or 4-1 if the Padres don't turn a pair of ridiculous DP's in the 1st and 2nd innings.
I was surprised Braun was left in to play defense the entire game, given his lack of experience at 1B. Looked like he got a glove on that ground ball hit that Knebel allowed in the 9th. Once he gets more comfortable, in 40 games or so (I would assume Ryan will get about 10-15 games there by then), he probably makes that play.

Over a decade ago, legendary investor Jim Rogers said he was buying farmland by the thousands of acres in South America, the USA, wherever he could find it. He said to buy mutual funds that focused on agriculture; food, commodities, machinery, fertilizer, and do on. In some places in the world, food is like gold.
In the USA, we have many people who insist Monsanto and other companies that help grow food with less water, less fertilizer, and so on; are evil. Of course, they say that with a full stomach, in a incredibly wealthy, free land where you can buy a decent meal at Taco Bell or McDonald's for $2-3, and almost stuff yourself to feeling ill for $6-7.

Currently reading Scott Adams' book on President Trump, Win Bigly. One thing is he says often is "I didn't really predict it, but since people say I did, I'll use the word prediction just for simplicity."
Today, I have received several kudos on Twitter and email that I correctly forecast the Crew signing Dan Jennings. Thing is...I didn't. I believe I said, "If they sign a reliever, as they have in previous seasons, I'd say Jennings would be the guy."
Already seeing 40 man issues, as Choi's addition makes it full, while Jennings still has to be added. They would not have done that without a plan in place, so obviously they are not worried about losing that 40th player. Or, possibly Nelson will just be placed on the 60 day DL...but if he was going to be, you'd think he would have been already.

As I have explained, the "top sheet" was used back when the blankets were wool and uncomfortable. Now that we have comforters and other silky things, that top sheet is unnecessary. In fact, that extra layer makes many of us sweat, as we already have a ceiling fan on over the bed 365 days a year,

High Heat 19 checks in that the Brewers are looking at former Cardinals reliever Josh Lucas, who I mentioned I liked when he was DFA'd.
Also, he says not to be so sure Choi is removed when Jennings is added, could be another player, such as Aguilar.
I'd hate to lose Aguilar for nothing, but realistically, he's out of options, is 28, and he can only play 1B. That's not a description of a player to regret losing.

Stearns acts as if Choi's stay will be brief, said he is aware of roster situation and he does have an option. If he's only there for a day or two, they might as well keep another bat...the odds of them needing more than 7 relievers in the first game or two is extremely slim.

The problem with not telling the truth? You gotta have a really good memory, or you get confused later.
Consistency is not their strength.
EDIT: Now...let's try again. The story currently being sold is he was there during the shooting, went home, and then returned to the school later. I'm not saying that's not the case, but eventually, they should find one that sticks.

Jennings will be available.
I do not remember if the Brewers were rumored to have chatted with the White Sox last year at the deadline about Jennings (they traded a hard thrower at AA for Swarzak, if you recall), but again, he makes the most sense if they are going to pick up anyone. Equally effective versus both lefty and righty batters, and while similar to Oliver Drake vs. LH's, he is far better vs. RH's, interestingly.
Leathersich has shown promise as a loogy as well, but basically throws batting practice versus RH bats.

I am at a rooftop wedding. I should have just realized this was a dream because unless it's the Rambling son's, I doubt if I'll ever go to another wedding, because I not only dislike almost all people but also despise joyful gatherings, but hence, I digress.
Somehow, I get separated from the Rambling wife. I lose my phone. I start looking for it. I get hopelessly lost, and cannot call the wife for help, because my phone is lost. I keep asking people for help, they keep giving me directions that lead me to a maze like creation of hallways, not a one of them go up, which I assume I need to do at some point, because, you know, it's a rooftop wedding. Finally, after what seems like hours of wandering, I am told the white staircase goes up to the roof. It's a white staircase that has a 90 degree bend halfway up, and isn't really attached to anything, it's just in the middle of this giant room, filled with waitstaff in suits, and guests in suits and fancy dresses, along with a pudgy middle aged guy, who is feeling very out of place.
The stairs are hellishly crowded, people going in both directions, many holding drinks. It's nothing not to move for a minute, just packed. Suddenly, I look up, and my Uncle Jay is walking down the stairs as I am headed up. He has it even rougher than me, because he is carrying 3 long, skinny boxes, and struggling to hang onto them. After some idle chatter, he asks if I can grab these boxes, he'll sneak by me, and then he'll welcome them back. I say certainly, so I take them. The stairs are so crowded, I almost drop them right away. I look around and Jay is gone, as he has vanished like a thief in the night.
To make sure I avoid the crowd, I am forced to go over the side of the staircase, hanging onto the railing with just my left arm, the boxes all in my right. Of course, this being a dream, not only does no one seem to care, no one even notices me as they walk up and down the stairs, which have suddenly cleared, as I dangle several stories above the floor. Using gravity and my apparently well above average balance and strength that have never before shown their existence prior to this sudden predicament, I rearrange the boxes to get a better grip. Seeing an opening, I swing back over the railing feet first; like a chimpanzee that weighs, using a ballpark comparison, about as much as one of my big toes, and make it back onto the stairs.
A couple minutes later, I finally arrive at my destination. The Rambling wife is very unhappy, asking me where I've been, and asks why in the world I'm carrying boxes, adding something to the effect that the next time I tell her I can't hang onto her purse while she uses the restroom, I can go straight to hell. I begin to tell her about Jay, and lo and behold, he's standing right next to her. I ask what happened to him, and he says, "Some guy in the lobby asked me if I was going to the wedding on the roof. I said yes, and he asked if I could take the boxes. I was just about to give up when I saw you. I didn't care about them at all, but I knew you were too stubborn to let them go, and you'd get them here, so I gave them to you." After a slight pause, he smiled and added, "I walked down a flight and took the elevator up here."
I woke up, not at all sure if Jay had given me a great compliment, or basically called me an over persistent moron. I also woke up so exhausted, I needed a nap.

Adam discusses the pitching situation. I'm surprised at Guerra's demotion, but to be honest, it seems like they pretty much just ignored the spring stats, which is a wise move.
Also, I bet there 12-15 teams that have asked if Junior is available, and it's always good to have a 6th SP that is better than many club's 5th.
The bullpen could go in any direction, and considering we've seen many well known names already told they will not make their team, I would not be at all surprised to see a reliever added.

Broxton, Guerra, and Phillips optioned.
I thought Junior would be in the rotation, so that's a surprise to me. Looks like Woodruff and Suter have the #4 and #5 spots, barring an acquisition of some sort. Unless, of course, they plan to bring up Junior to be the 5th SP in game 8.
Looks like Anderson/Chacin/Suter, then Davies.
Gallardo has been informed he will not be making the team. I assume they will allow him to talk to other teams before giving him the option of signing a minor league contract.
C Christian Bethancourt, INF Nick Franklin, INF Nate Orf, OF Kyle Wren, and RHP Radhames Liz have been informed that they will not be on the Major League team. They will join the team in HOU for the exhibition games MON/TUE.--Brewers PR
None really had a chance to make the team barring injuries/trades. Excellent depth in AAA, however. None are on the 40 man, but all 5 might play a part in the 2018 campaign.
Have not seem it officially yet, but it appears Woodruff will be the 5th SP but make the 25 man opening roster as a reliever.

It's unlikely for a variety of reasons, but Zack Wheeler may be a name to keep in mind. He has a terrible ERA this spring, but excellent secondary numbers, lots of K's, a great K/BB ratio, no HR's allowed. I did a quick back of the envelope calculation, and it shows him having a .500+ BAbip.
In yesterday's game, he allowed a infield hit the 3B bobbled, then ZW fielded a bunt and no one covered 1B. The Mets announced today Seth Lugo might open the season in the rotation, in place of Wheeler. Miley with a slight groin tear, Logan has a slight bicep strain. Good news on both. Miley hopes he can reach agreement with Brewers to stay. Neither has a timeline, but seems likely neither will be ready for next week's opener.
Very likely 2 spots opened up on 25 man, but none on 40 man. That's especially good for Williams, Drake, Suter, and Guerra. Might be very positive for Drake, who is probably as close as they have to a lefty specialist.
That said, Drake and Gallardo cannot be sent down, so if they fail to make the 25 man, their 40 man spots could be used on a guy like Hoover.

Nothing on injuries until tomorrow. Brewers will have to decide whether or not Miley is worth keeping AND whether he is worth keeping with an injury.
They can simply inform him he will not be going north with the team, and Miley will have to decide whether to become a free agent or remain on his minor league contract. If they keep him, he will have to be added to the 40 man first, and then possibly DL'd, if his injury is serious enough.
Logan is on the 40, and has a guaranteed MLB deal, unlike Miley. If his injury is serious, he can be put on the 60 day DL, and he will not count against the 40 man roster limit (MIL may well do this with Jimmy Nelson).

If I'm reading this properly, this means the Bucks will likely have Plumlee and Mumford available, if they wish, until the end of the regular season. Not sure if they will begin giving players some rest days or if they will go hard after a higher playoff spot.
As is, they are in 8th, and while only a game or two out of 7th and even higher seeds, the play a very tough schedule compared to the teams they are chasing. And, for whatever reason, the Bucks match up well and have had good results against the #1 and #2 Eastern seeds, the Raptors and the Celtics.
I would ease up on the minutes, especially on the road, for the main guys, maybe 30-32 a game rather than 38-40, and also give the star players the option of taking some games off.

Starting to see plenty of recognizable players released and DFA'd. Many on minor league deals are coming up on opt outs, as is Wade Miley for the Crew...if they either have to be promised a 40 or 25 man roster spot or they have the right to ask for their release.
If they have had good springs, it really can't hurt to be released, as they can pretty much play AAA ball for anyone.

Abad, on a minor league contract, might be a safety valve the Crew looks at.
He's a loogy, but he's been a consistent loogy for half a decade. Since they've already committed to carrying 8 relievers, it's easier to find room for a pure loogy as well.

Even after Cobb to Orioles, Archer is currently not an option at this time for Milwaukee. However, that may change come the trade deadline. Brewer's were not going to budge on their 3 years/48 to Cobb.
I have little doubt the Orioles overpaid, as I would think the max innings anyone could optimistically project from Cobb would be about 480 frames over 4 years.
That said, I wanted him in Milwaukee. I think he's primed for a breakout. Having to face TOR/BOS/NYY extra will keep his ERA higher too.

With a move to a new arena around the corner, the Bucks may want to make a big splash with their next head coaching hire. League sources tell Stein that Jeff Van Gundy and Kevin McHale are among the names on the Bucks’ list of potential candidates, while Monty Williams and David Fizdale have also been mentioned. Rick Pitino could even get an “exploratory look,” says Stein.
My list begins and ends with Van Gundy, barring a current coach being willing to take it (a couple have supposedly expressed interest, probably due to Giannis). I am fond of McHale, but his back prevents him from coaching full seasons, for the most part.
The only other name I would love to see is Eric Musselman, who has won wherever he has gone and is currently with Nevada; who is the son of legendary coach Bill Musselman.

Alex Cobb close to signing with Orioles, per Rosenthal.
The guess is 3y/$50M, though he was told he is "off" and presumably high.
I still expected him to end up in MIL. As of now, Guerra, Miley, and Suter look to be the favorites for the final 2 spots, and there would appear to be 2-3 spots in the bullpen open as well, depending on whether or not they ignore Barnes' spring struggles and just go by what he did last season.
Junior and Brent seem to have "won" if they go by their results in Arizona, as has Taylor Williams in relief, along with Liz and Hoover. Whether they will, time will tell.
EDIT: Believed to be 4y/$50-60M. He got that extra year, it would appear. As long as holding out helps, guys will keep holding out.
EDIT 2: As some are pointing out, Orioles' physicals are notorious for being ridiculously not routine, so this, moreso than most, is not official until it is official.

Friend of Ramblings HighHeat19 shares the Brewers slightly increased their offer to Alex Cobb recently. Also said some clubs would like to see Cobb throw, as they are concerned about a rumor of a velocity dip or maybe even a minor injury.
He also asked that I share the following:
You can post that I was forced off the bf.net boards by the moderators. They said that they wanted to respect the wishes of the Brewers and I was told that if I gave one more bit of Brewer info from my source they were going to ban me. I did and I was banned in 5 minutes and then they made a spectacle of it by bf.net. Their mods than said they have not 1 but 2 inside sources (2 must sound more credible) that said I had no credibility. So by BF.NET if I had no credibility then why was I asked to respect the wishes of the Milwaukee Brewers??? I'm assuming they felt repercussion from the Brewers. They also created a separate thread when I sarcastically said that I had no source. That was fuel for their fire and ran that piece immediately.
I'm on record as saying HH19 was simply correct too often not to have a source. I'm grateful to have him sending me an email once in a while.
One last note, I have received several emails and tweets that agree with me. Also, one thing has been mentioned...if they have "inside sources"...why do they never have any "scoops?"

As others have pointed out; every day, all over the country, there are thousands (possibly millions) of people who carry a weapon with them from the time they wake up in the morning to the time they go to bed at night, legally of course; either as a conceal carry or an open carry...except for the hours each day when they are at their place of employment...a school, where they are employed as a teacher, principal, custodian, security guard, or as kitchen or maintenance staff.

Don't forget, sometimes players are DFA'd late, and those without options are especially at risk. That said, the Crew has low waiver priority because they use last year's record for a while, so it is probably not all that likely a SP able to step right in would get past 15+ teams.

Brewers announce Anderson in game 1, Chacin in game 2 or 3, and Davies in game 4, which is the home opener. Off day on Easter allows them not to use a 5th SP until game 8. Would allow them to carry an extra reliever or position player the first 7 games*.
It used to be a rule the Opening Day roster could not be changed for 10 days, barring injury, but I assume that is not the case anymore.

Counsell said he expected 6 spots to go to Knebel, Albers, Hader, Logan, Jeffress, and Barnes. However, Jacob has struggled mightily, though I have no idea if he's throwing to get guys out or just getting his arm ready. Meanwhile, JJ Hoover has not allowed a run or a walk in 6 innings, though only a single K makes you wonder if guys are just hitting line outs.
