Brewers finally got their "expected" record down to only 2 wins lower than their actual record.

For those wondering, they have been 3 over since the 2nd week of the season. It's directly related to how many blowouts you have. Today's 11 run victory finally pushed it down a game.

He's right.

The longest journey begins with a single step.

That's why Rand Paul's 1% "penny plan" was so showed they could not even talk about cutting, well, anything. Because they refuse to admit they are taking in record revenue, and that it, very simply, is nothing but a spending problem.

What's funny is, no matter how hard they try to fawn over Obama, one look at history shows how badly his policies worked out.

How's that red line in Syria? His Yemen policy led to the greatest refugee crisis since WW2. You can only ignore reality so long. The facts is the facts.

2018 Brewers record runs allowed/runs scored

3 or less--7-16

4 or more--26-4

4 or less--27-9
5 or more--6-11

Last updated with the games of SAT, 5/26.

With luck, I will try to keep this updated daily.

Years ago, Pete Vuckovich was the Brewers' TV color guy, or one of 2-3 that season, I can't recall. For all of his drunken exploits and overall goofy stories involving him that are brought up; he was a pitching coach, pitching coordinator, scout, or assistant to the GM for a variety of MLB teams for the better part of the past 30 years, so he's not some dumb oaf. He was far from a brilliant analyst, as his knowledge was almost entirely talking pitching and pitch selection.

However, one night, almost in passing, the Brewers scored their 4th run of the game, and went up like 4-1 or 4-2. He called that "the run of victory," or something like that. He went onto say, for all but a team or two, the 4th run was key. In fact, he said, almost every club will have a losing record if they score 3, but a winning mark if they score 4. The play by play guy, who I think was Jim Patchke, all but ignored it.

Vuke, probably pushed on by the guys in the truck, as this was like Twain literature compared to his usual drivel, added the same was true for pitching, if you give up 4 or less, you'll probably win, and 5 or more, you'll probably lose. I have always remembered this and have always found it to be 100% accurate...but have never heard another baseball person say it, even 30 years later.

The other thing I'll add is note how much better of a manager Counsell is when his pitchers pitch nicely and/or his hitters score a bunch. It's not a complicated game.

In Memphis, TN, Alec Asher may be far more excited that Houser is up and ready to come in than his teammates are. Barnes might be too, but he's likely down to "work on stuff" so he is unlikely.

Considering Houser is coming off surgery, even if he only goes an inning, he will not be available tomorrow, and quite possibly MON.

If the Crew feels the relief corps is deep enough, they might bring up a position player instead. Given it cannot be Choi or Arcia (and Nottingham is injured) that would leave Phillips and Broxton on the 40.

EDIT: Asher went 4 innings and 76 pitches WED, so his normal day to start would be MON. If they choose to, he should be ready to pitch in relief tomorrow.

He shared with VICE News his own data showing Trump’s numbers creeping close to a certain dotted line. If they hit it, he claims the president is unbeatable in the Electoral College.

Read the whole thing

It's terrifying to many that Trump won with a 37% approval rating. While the combined one has him at 44%, the most accurate pollster in '16, Rasmussen, has him at 49%. I don't know what that dotted line is, but if the election were held today, I have no doubt he would win easily.

Luckily for the Dems, 30 months is an eternity in politics. He could go down and go back up a dozen times before NOV of 2020.

I heard about this years ago. Still going on.

It's reminiscent of car manufacturers putting the parts that wear out the fastest in the hard to get to parts of the engine...more labor if you take it in, backyard mechanics are more likely to take it to the dealer too, as an hour job takes them all day.

They don't stop to think about what bad PR this is. People like me really do not notice, but handy guys do, and they talk.

With last night’s 4-3, 10-inning win, the Brewers improved to 13-5 in 1-run games and 4-1 in extra innings this season.--Brewers PR
No one will say it, so I'll just come out and do so...the Brewers have experienced their fair share of good fortune this season.

They've also experienced 1 or 2 other team's worth.

As I have said, this is a twofold thing...they tend to even out, but in theory, the games that are over are done, and luck should be split 50/50 the rest of the way.

The Crew tried to sign Kratz to a minor league deal over the winter, per Stearns.

By far, this seems to be an indication the organization does not look at Christian Bethancourt as much of an option to be a part of the big league roster, which is a bit surprising, since he's thrown out 36% of those trying to run on him and, as does everyone, hit well at Colorado Springs. He has also pitched, at least at the Hernan Perez level, with an 8 ERA in AAA in 41 career innings.

Nottingham needs to play to develop, so I'm not at all surprised to see him remain at AAA, and, he's been on the DL the past couple weeks with a pulled side muscle (meanwhile, I'm fine, since you can't pull fat).

I had no idea the Crew played at 3 tomorrow afternoon. It looks like Fox has a 6PM game, so SAT evening must be exclusive to them tomorrow night.

Strange how teams base their schedule around avoiding those windows, so all their games can be televised. Look how few games there are tomorrow night, while usually, 2/3rd's of MLB clubs schedule night games on SAT.

5/25/2018 11:59:00 PM

Mesoraco barely tried to block that 3-1 pitch in the dirt, just gave a feeble attempt and hoped it would bounce into his glove. If Shaw swings and misses, Sogard scores anyway.

Hard to believe.

I know the math does not work this way, but by memory, I'd guess Sogard has a .500 OBP in that situation. Seems like he almost always gets a walk or a single into LF, at least versus RHP.

Back when I played slow pitch softball, we once played in a league in Altoona (right next to Eau Claire) in which all the teams were pretty even, except for maybe 1-2 teams that were way better. It seemed like every game was close late, often like 8-6 or 10-9. I know it always seemed like I got to bat with the game close or tied late, and just by memory, I think I walked about 75% of the time. Even my teammates would notice this. Of course, they just thought it was good luck, they did not realize I never swung until I got a strike (3 ball/2 strike league) and I knew that strike zone almost perfectly...that mat the pitcher aimed for was just not that big, and in that league, only the mat was a strike, not the plate.

I can't tell you how many times I would walk and the next batter (or 2-3) would swing at the first pitch. I was all about OBP long before OBP was cool.

I always remember that league we played on one of 2 fields, and it was mostly the same one, in which the umpire was always the same guy. He would always have a beer or cigarette in his hand(s), and often both. He was pretty good if you had a 6:30 game, but by 9:30, those calls on the bases (always made from behind home plate, he never moved) were a crapshoot. I recall one time in which we gave up a couple HR's to an opponent. When he came up to bat again, the manager yelled at the pitcher from wherever he was on the field to walk him. After the first pitch was about 10 feet over the batter's head (I think it hit the backstop on the fly), the umpire casually said, "You wanna walk him?" The pitcher shook his head yes, and the umpire yelled "Take your base."

1. He was 25 years ahead of MLB.

2. No doubt he got paid by the game, not the hour. Those hour games were almost always done in 45 minutes.

I would often be going to a movie after the game with my girlfriend at the time (not only did she not care, she had no problem saying she did not care), so I always had to go home and shower before the movie, where she would usually meet me, unless she worked until 9. Often, I was home getting clean before the next game was scheduled to start. Always appreciated that.

Yes, the president could have left after his speech and started a holiday weekend early.

No, he didn't.

As many mentioned on Twitter today by many, the difference in tone between Trump's message to the Navy grads and Obama's "how dare ye?" accusatory rhetoric to the Air Force grads is day and night. One was patriotic and all about the greatness of the country, one was negative and depressing.

It's also why Trump's approval rating is higher, despite the old media's insistence that Obama was more loved than the last keg at a frat party. He them.

5/25/2018 02:13:00 PM

(5/25/2018 01:54:00 PM) - Al

MIL continues to fine tune.

Brewers take my advice and option Arcia to AAA. Sogard returns.

Also pick up veteran catcher Erik Krantz while DFAing Bandy.

Also, in a move I expected last night, Lopez goes down and Houser returns, since Jorge would be unavailable for a couple games anyway. They continue to use that last bullpen spot as an optionable mop up man.

Like Sogard earlier, some of Arcia's decline can simply be blamed on bad luck, as his BAbip was quite low. However, getting him back to normal with a couple weeks of playing time is far from a bad idea, especially with Saladino seeing the ball and producing. Expect him to get 2 of 3 games at SS and Sogard to face tough RH's.

Krantz is hitting the ball at AAA, but has a .250 career OBP in the bigs, and at 38 and almost certainly just a short term move. Solid behind the plate, identical 34% CS to Pina. He does have some HR power...but so did Bandy.

As for Jett, I don't know if he'll make it through waivers or not. Backup catcher is a hellishly weak position, and Bandy, on the surface, is every bit as good as Krantz, and far younger. If he does, he'll likely dominate AA or AAA, wherever the Crew sends him.

The Brewers continue to utilize the 25/40 man roster brilliantly and are maximizing the bullpen to keep their big guns (hopefully, no snowflakes were offended by my graphic language) rested and keep them from having to eat up low leverage innings in 7-1 and 9-2 games.

President Trump's commencement speech to the Navy grads today has several quotes in it that are Reaganesque, that we may well be hearing 30+ years from now. He is at his best in moments like these, almost always involving the military and patriotic discussion.

The difference between he and Obama could not be more vast, Trump never fails to speak of the USA in a positive manner, while Obama, well, did not.

I'll add a link when I find one. Right now, I only see ones lasting over an hour, which include news commentaries.

Sure enough, on cue, he got his first college promotion yesterday, an oversized postcard from UW Milwaukee. Today is Thursday before Memorial Day weekend, but as I often point out, people often use their time off to make a 3 day weekend a 4 or 5 day weekend

{There are 2 ways of looking at this...jealousy or admiration, and we all know what many people choose...because they're negative nellies.}

Just wanted to link to a post I made a few years ago. It's part of the PC, "how dare you celebrate a day in a way I disagree with" culture. You can read the whole thing, but I will copy and paste a short recap:

Of course not. Dan Fleyschman, an entrepreneur who has started many tech companies, dabbled in pro poker, and started a charity to help the homeless, had a nice quote this morning:

"The point of Memorial Day is to remember the millions of people that fought for us to have the freedom to do all these fun things."

Yes it is. Don't feel bad about enjoying yourself, and spending time with your friends and family. Thank a veteran if you see one. If you have lost someone, keep them in your thoughts. If you know someone who has, thank them for their sacrifice.

And if you're taking life advice from people who say "don't have fun" or "you should stop enjoying yourself," it might be time for a quick life review. Those folks are only trying to bring others down to their miserable level. Write out a blueprint that does not involve listening to those buffoons.

And, dare I say it, but have a happy Memorial Day weekend.

All I'm seeing is a plethora of people who are wondering why the NFL did not simply do this when the problem first came up. Incredibly slow, and poorly thought out.

Tough not to notice that, once again, Trump has played those with very little knowledge of common sense and PR. They put their money on a fool who wore socks depicting police officers as pigs, because he was so out of touch with the majority of the USA.

Not surprisingly, that turned out poorly for him and the players. They should use JJ Watt and any of many others as role models instead of an idiot who has proven to be out of his league (no pun intended).

I'd give them each a couple pieces of paper each day explaining what it going on that their feeble little minds can't comprehend.

Then I'd explain that my press secretary would not be working with the old media until they stop yelling questions and acting like imbeciles.

The hell with them.

Prison reform? Incomes up?

Unexpectedly, of course.

By the way, where's all that doom and gloom and death the left told me to expect with the tax cuts? I realize the rubes having more money in their pocket is hell, but, why am I not seeing any proof?

(5/23/2018 07:10:00 PM) - Al

Counsell has been giving Saladino an average of 1 start a series at SS (I think he got one at 2B too), but said today that "he may be earning more playing time."

Tyler is hot, and is a very good defensive player. Arcia is off to a slow offensive start, and has been his normal self on defense (he has been +3 in UZR and +9 in DRS in 2018).

Let's be honest, it'd probably be a good idea to send Arcia down for a week or two just to play every day in the minors and work on his swing in a relaxed setting, he could bat leadoff and get 4-5 PA's versus pitchers that are, for the most part, not as consistent and talented.

That said, there are other ramifications in doing so, especially mentally. Part of his trouble is a bad luck induced .248 BAbip. If he had an "average" BAbip of .300, his OBP would be about .273 and his career OBP is .298, so much of this is bad fortune discussion. His .133/.138 line versus LHP is almost beyond math, as that's lower than what pitchers have contributed. That might be a good compromise for the time being, just let Saladino start against LH SP for a couple weeks (there's 2 in this weekend series versus the Mets). That may well help him "focus" in on RH release points as well.

All that typed. Saladino has a .412 BAbip in 2018. If you balance those numbers out, we're probably not having this discussion.

Lahren could not hope to buy this kind of publicity.

The fact she is beloved and hated is far better than being kind of enjoyed and kind of disliked. What's that old clip from Private Parts, the Howard Stern movie? Those that love him listened for an average of 17 minutes; those that hated him listened for 19.

Of course, as usual, the haters do not think before they do.

The FBI is full of good people.

The FBI in DC is incredibly inept and corrupt. They've been discussing that for half a decade. Those who have the desire to push paper and the like are overwhelmingly left and rarely rank in the upper half of agents.

Those that want to work in the FBI usually want to, you know, catch bad guys and do something about crime. Not go after political targets and fictional targets.

Crazy like a fox.

I just read a day or two ago someone saying the "Melanie" instead of "Melania" in the first lady's welcome home tweet, was a rather obvious intentional's a simple auto correct, but also a very noticeable one. Not correcting it accomplishes several things:

--More publicity.

--The left jumps all over it, making them look petty.

--It not only does not cost him a single supporter, it galvanizes their support, as it makes the real estate tycoon look just like a "regular guy" making a texting error, even though it may well not be him.

You know how stupid your kid looks making fun of your tech skills and then coming to you because he's dead broke? The Dems have not figured that out yet. They play right into his hands...every single time.

Having lived through the live version, 8 years of being told I was too stupid to understand Neville Chamberlain foreign policy and an economic plan that ignored ECON 101 because they didn't like the results (premiums will do down $2500 a year, and we'll be able to cover everyone just on paperwork savings!); I have no desire to watch it in fictional form.

I must admit, I always find this hilarious.

The pro choice side (of which I am a part, but neither them or the pro life side will have me, because they're too set in their ways to realize there's many folks that compromise) refuses to admit that they lie in their everyday justification.

For example, they do not do mammograms, but they insist they do. When you have to use deceit to justify your existence, odds are your existence is questionable. They are what they are, and that is the USA's #1 abortion provider. In many areas, they are the only one.

If Lopez does go down when Davies returns, that would make several arms the Crew could use interchangeably....Woodruff, Suter, Lopez, Peralta, Houser, Barnes, Asher, and even Wilkerson, if he gets healthy.

You could include Williams in that too, especially if he needs a week or two off from the rigors of being "on call" in a major league bullpen (which could also be mental as well as physical). The best part of that is, if a pitcher goes 3+ innings one day, or even pitches 2 games in 2-3 days, they can immediately replace them to keep the bullpen full and rested.

As of tonight, every reliever that's been with the team all season; Albers, Hader, Jeffress, and Jennings; are all on pace for more than 70 innings, which is probably what the team would prefer. It's usually okay to be slightly over, as in September, rosters will expand and teams can limit innings a bit...though if a team is contending and playing close games, it can be difficult.

Watching the libs come to the realization that, yes, illegal spying took place, and no, you can't simply justify it because Obama is black or Trump is evil has been very enjoyable. My favorites?

From Facebook #1: So, while we've been waiting for the other shoe to drop, it turns out...Trump has been telling the truth?

#2: I've been a loyal Democrat since before I could vote. I know Hillary was far from perfect, but I blamed it on her age and technical ignorance. You can't blame entire departments for not knowing what they were doing. You can't embed guys in another campaign and say I hit the wrong button.

5/21/2018 08:38:00 PM

(5/21/2018 04:30:00 PM) - Al

I agree. You can only cover up dirty deeds for so long. Spying against the opponent's campaign is as serious as it gets.

Hillary should be at the top of the list, as there is no question she deleted classified files and used a private server.

(5/21/2018 04:24:00 PM) - Al

Suter will start WED, Davies' return looks to be THU.

Anderson tonight, Chacin tomorrow, and Guerra FRI.

That would seem to leave Woodruff out of the mix as well. Maybe he and Lopez can arm wrestle for that last spot...given Brandon's ability to go several innings and spot start, I would give him a large edge.

5/21/2018 04:24:00 PM

(5/21/2018 03:56:00 PM) - Al

They had to spy on Trump because he is/was so dangerous.

Again, let's sum up...

1. They do not like the Trump the person (though his numbers are improving).

2. They do like Trump's policies and economy.

2a. They also like Governor Walker's policies and economy.

3. They did like Obama the person.

4. They did not like Obama's policies and economy.

This is sometimes difficult for those of us who have well thought out views to understand. But, in a world in which WI voted for Walker 3 times, Trump once, and Obama twice; it's the way it is.

A timeline of the spying on Trump and associates.

As one would expect, the names Comey, Obama, and Clinton appear A LOT. However, McCain also seems to show up fra more than one would guess. Susan Rice also pops up often, wanting to hide, bury, or insist she has no evidence.

I said a day or so ago how quiet Obama and others have been. Why? Take a gander. Denying you know anything about Hillary's private server, and then later, emails saying that lie has to be "cleaned up", yeah, you'd be quiet too.

The anger and the disgust are real...they've all been terrified of getting caught. And they can't blame each other, or they implicate themselves.

Oh, what tangled webs we weave...

Chase Anderson will have to be taken off the DL tomorow before he gets the start.

Jorge Lopez or Freddy Peralta would seem to be the bottom 2, and as long as they feel comfortable with Davies taking FP's spot THU, one would think they would keep an extra reliever rather than an SP who would likely not pitch again.

(5/20/2018 02:00:00 PM) - Al

The irony? Those going out of their way not to be outraged are the same ones that insisted even speaking with Russia about an election was very, very damning.

It's all just politics on the left. If Hillary would have shot Trump dead in a dark alley on election night, they would be insisting the cameras were unconstitutional and that meant the popular vote winner should take office.

They don't even pretend to care.

The funniest thing is, the 2nd greatest gun salesman ever Davy Hogg tweeted out "5 more things" they need to do, since none of his original 5 things would have mattered. It was so full of factual errors and stupidity he was forced to delete it, as his own followers told him how dumb they were.

The best part? After insisting they do not want to confiscate all guns, they seem to be retweeting a lot of people who say they should confiscate all guns.

That said, armed security is fine, as long as you can afford it.

The desperation is starting to set in.

Remember about 3 months ago, when a wise man said all roads let back to the only bad behavior being by the Dems? And suddenly, the delay tactics began?

They were hoping the world ended. It didn't.

The irony here is, every network not named Fox News solidly aligned with Obama, and he still complained about Fox, AND used government resources to harass their reporters.

And then they spied on the Trump campaign. Because they assumed Hillary would win and bury the evidence.

Beck is not the only one.

My congressman and his wife say every time they go to an event, a line forms with people embarrassed to say they either didn't vote or did not vote for Trump, and need to tell someone just to get it off their chest and stop feeling guilty.

Those poll numbers aren't going up for no reason. Insisting MS13 is good and tax cuts are bad is not a message that's going to play in Peoria.

(5/19/2018 06:00:00 AM) - Al

This is the same stuff that leaked out months ago, but the old media is being forced to at least mention it. The same stuff that I mentioned that Obama's silence on was deafening.

Those that don't understand Trump's tweeting is either foolish or still believes the old media is unbiased.

No doubt. Lying does not move folks over. Yet, they keep doing it.

Lying about taxes going up (the NYT ran hundreds of simulations and could not find a single instance in which anyone's was higher) was even worse, as it made lots of folks seriously wonder if the Dems were just being untruthful about everything. Do not lie about paychecks.

What I learned today while looking up something else:

--Over half the Grade B milk in the USA comes from WI and MN. Some of this comes from Amish farmers, while much of it is due to farmers not having the well capacity to properly water their herds (or, from what I saw growing up, have creeks and springs flowing through their land and choose to use them instead).

--Only Grade A milk is approved for liquid consumption, but due to the plethora of supply, 60-67% of Grade A milk is used for cheese, butter, and other dairy products.

--Why do we never see Grade B butter in stores? Or grade B anything? Because it's not required to be marked that way. Some producers choose to label their product as Grade A, such as Grade A cheese and Grade A powdered whey (one of the most popular forms of labeling Grade A "nonfluid" products is in products designed to be used by muscle builders and those into fitness) . That means all the milk used was Grade A.

However, cheese using some Grade B is simply sold as "cheese." Some states have stricter requirements regarding Grade B products, so it is very rarely used, since it is legally required to be labeled in that manner.

--Grade B dairies are getting out of the business at a very brisk pace, despite only being about 10% of all dairy farms in WI, about 75% of those that have quit selling milk to plants in the past year were Grade B.

EDIT: The Rambling brother tells ne that farmers can have springs or creeks going throught the pasture, just have to have quality well water for cleaning purposes. I misunderstood years ago, I guess.

I'm not sure if this could have worked out much better. Not only did the old media lie about who Trump was talking about, Pelosi says MS13 gang members are just peaches.

I got an email a few weeks ago from a "close source" that said the naming rights sponsor was done a month ago, but there was some sort of disagreement; the timing of the announcement, the amount of free tickets to each event, or something along those lines, and the Bucks owners said, "OK then, we're starting over!"

No idea how true that was, but it makes sense, considering the timeline of events since.

I thought this was already well know, but since it's a Katie Pavlich byline, I'll just go with the flow.

Of course, much like the IRS targeting of conservative groups, I'll assume this was just a large group of rogue agents working independently...and certainly, had nothing to do with the executive branch.

Now if you'll excuse me, a pig just flew past my window, and my pet unicorn needs to be brushed.

Somewhere, Bob Mueller's getting a text every few seconds that says, "You buffoon, you were supposed to bury this. Can't you do anything right?"

Of course, the texts come from burner phones rerouted through a dozen cell towers...because the senders are innocent, you know.

Let's be honest, he should have resigned when it became obvious he would not return anytime soon. He chose not to...more than likely in a last ditch attempt for publicity. He's in poor health, but the idea he is immune to criticism for his views is just goofy.

I've just always thought it was because they were such arrogant SOB's.

I worked in sales for years, and there was nothing worse than seeing a married pair of successful, educated folks. They always thought they knew more than you, even about subjects I was a specialist in, and they knew nothing about. They would think nothing of taking the info you gave them and telling their broker or union planner do the same thing. I'm not sure if they did not understand how commission worked, or if they just didn't give a damn. Without fail, they were also the ones who would stand you up, not caring if you drove 100 miles on a FRI afternoon, even though they went up to their cottage on the lake WED morning...just because they could. If I managed to get back in with them, I would say that was no problem (after verifying the appointment before leaving the house, of course) and give them extra business cards, so they could keep them in their wallet, purse, cabin, and so on, in case they needed to cancel. They would laugh and say "Oh, we have plenty of your cards. We just never bothered to call. We're retired, you know. WE don't think of that anymore."

I loved working with folks on Medicaid. I would save them money on health coverage, sell them funeral coverage, and some still send me cards. I couldn't stand working with the ultra educated. If you did make a sale, you earned every penny.

Several times.

Six weeks later, I ran into her again.

North Korea is, as they have shown in the past couple months, completely unimportant on the world stage. Trump and South Korea was kind enough to let them participate in the Olympics. As we have seen, it's not about the waterboarding, as they approved Brennan without hesitation. It's because she's Trump's nominee.

You could not possibly nominate someone clean enough. Ben Carson, Pompeo, meaningless ambassadors, all fought; all unblemished records.

McCain chose to look like a fool voting against Obamacare, which he had been saying he would vote against for 7 years. But, his word meant agreeing with Trump, voting against, in his mind, meant embarrassing Trump. Turns out, the wrath came down on McCain, as he is now disliked strongly by both parties, though admired for his military service, at least publicly.

Just a few years ago, McCain called Paul and fellow Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, "wacko birds" for their filibuster blocking then-CIA nominee John Brennan. McCain later apologized.--CBS

Of course, Obama nominated Brennan, and Trump nominated Haslep. Paul is "out there," but at least he's consistent. He knows he's in a safe state and has little to worry about. McCain chooses his battles strangely, almost randomly, and they always seem to be against fellow GOPers.

Jeffress and Braun were unavailable tonight, and Perez could not swing the bat.

That's a beat up club, and they lost by a ground ball that found the hole. Just as easily could have gone the other way. Playing well, nothing a 3 run homer could not fix.

One of the many things I learned from Scott Adams' Win Bigly book was he immediately took Trump's McCain reference as a joke, because, he, like Trump, is a native New Yorker. He did not think it would harm him at all, and it did not. Trump has never apologized, since he doesn't think it was mean spirited, just a joke.

Franken is also a native New Yorker, and he basically said the same thing, only the old media did not repeat it when he said it almost 2 decades ago.

What goes against many of our Midwestern niceties is just another attempt at humor out east. Howard Stern is popular all over the country, but never would have been made the star he is had he brought out his act in Toledo or Des Moines.

Vogt done for the season, and quite possibly he will choose to retire, due to shoulder surgery.

Brewers are in a tricky spot, as Bandy is unlikely to clear waivers, but could sure use some AB's. No doubt Nottingham should be playing 4-5 days a week at his age, and to be blunt, few catchers currently in the minors are likely to outperform Bandy by any sizable amount.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people.

Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck."--Robert Heimlein

It's also an economic policy. It will work "next time."

If only a wise man would have saw this problem existed and mentioned it about 3 dozen times since Trump won.

It was not racism (um, many voted for Obama twice and then Trump), sexism (millions happily voted for Sarah Palin on the ticket), or even Russia (duh).

It was the message. It's the same message that has put the GOP in 70% of the state houses...and it's hellishly simple.

Cut spending, cut taxes, and quit being so damn meddlesome. Peace through strength, not apology tours. Law enforcement good. Criminals bad. Military good. Constitution good. Quit attacking the successful and rewarding the excuse makers.

Why hasn't he fallen off in popularity? Why is he gaining?  They knew what he was when he was elected. If they would have wanted a minister, they would have elected Mike Huckabee. They voted for the tough talking, brash, round around the edges type. The anti Obama if you will.

Miller Park minimizes the weather effect, but the key to this is a good season last year with expectations for being good again this year.

One negative about "rebuilding" is it does not excite casual fans. Most fans are casual, they don't go as often to losing teams. Then there's a bit of a domino effect, as fans no longer have to buy as far ahead. The longer they wait, the less likely they are to go.

{When we lived in the Cities, we were far more likely to go when the Twins sucked. The crowds were in the 12K range, and ticket specials were plentiful (we still recall with great fondness the SAT night bleacher special, had to buy 4 or more...ticket, hot dog, and a pop for $8-11 over the years... because it was just as cheap, even though there was only 2 or 3 of us; as tickets alone were $18 or so if you did not buy the "special"). Simply put, we were not "normal" even back then.

County Stadium had "general admission" tickets for $8, which were usually lower grandstand near 3B. The section next to it was $18-20. What was the incentive to buy ahead?

I swear I linked to this before, but since people keep sending it to me, maybe I forgot.

Heyman says the Crew is the best bet for Chris Archer and Jed Lowrie.

I still covet Archer, though not for the price of 4 young players/prospects (I think the rumored package was Woodruff/Santiago/Phillips/Burnes). Lowrie is only signed through this season, so he has very limited worth, even as one of the best FA to be's signed to a reasonable contract.

Realmuto would probably be a good offseason pickup, due to the catching aspect of it, but I would be willing to give a Yelich like package for him, including a Pina or a Nottingham and adding a top 100 type guy and perhaps another near top 100 type.

I like Colome a lot too, but Stearns has shown little interest in paying big money for relievers.

{Would Nottingham/Ortiz and one of the 3 younger OF's (Ray/Grisham/Lutz) be enough?}

My flight was cancelled, so I needed a room for the night. I went to the hotel I usually frequented when I was in the city. The front desk clerk checked, and said there were no rooms. I told her I'm sure there must be a spot. She double checked, but insisted, every room was either full, or reserved for the night. I asked to speak to the manager, and he looked, but verified, sorry not a single room available. I asked, "Sir, if the president of the United States walked in, would you find a room for him?" The manager smiled, and admitted, well, yes they would give him a room. I looked at him and said, "That's great. I'm sure he's not going to show up, so I'll take his room."--Zig Ziglar, as told by Joel Osteen

According to the reporter following the president, everywhere you look in Jerusalem, there are handmade signs and banners thanking President Trump for finally doing the right thing.

The reporter said, without a hint of irony, "It's funny, this has been on the books since 1999, but each president has delayed the actual move every 30 days to avoid the attention a move would create. However, here at least, nothing but positives."

As was said on Fox today, "This has been put off for years due to the controversy. President Trump said he simply didn't care about that."

There in 2 paragraphs, is a brief rundown of why Trump won.

Even Chuck Schumer can't keep up anymore. I'm sure Bernie and McCain are unhappy, regardless.

Bernie Sanders embarrassed himself on the Sunday shows just like John McCain did last week, saying he's not voting for Haspel because of her role in enhanced interrogations, and then clumsily could not explain why he supported her boss John Brennan in 2013.

If one did not know better, the answer appears obvious. Obama nominated Brennan, Trump nominated Haspel. At this point, neither of the above senators would support Jesus Christ if he was nominated by Trump, citing his religious divisiveness, and his controversial manipulation of seafood at a gathering about 2000 years ago.

The worst thing? Hardly anyone in the old media will press them on it. When someone does, the stupidity and lies that comes out of their mouth can only be described as humiliating buffoonery.

The best answer should simply be, "I'm opposing a very qualified female nominee because the president nominated her, and I don't like him." That would still be ridiculous, of course, but it would not be so dishonest.

Seeing lots of folks today saying Peralta had the success he had because of the horizontal movement. Yelich said from his CF spot, it looked like each pitch moved 5 feet.

Time will tell, I guess. From the CF camera, the Hader comparison still appears closest...time and time again, major league hitters swung and missed at pitches right in the heart of the strike zone. Why? I dunno. If we knew, everyone would coach it.

BUMPED: My phone ate the second half of this post last night. Lesson learned.

I don't talk much about stats or much of anything until the season reaches 40 games. Still a small sample, but not a tiny one anymore.

--Brewers have 24 wins, tied for 1st in the NL with 3 other teams.

--11 of the 15 NL clubs have winning records. I recall many saying only 6 or 7 were not tanking.

--I often say, if you're looking for what is really going on, take a look at what no one is talking about. MIL is 13th in runs scored and 7th in runs allowed. They ahve scored 170 and allowed 169. Their "expected" record is 21-20, so they are 3 wins ahead, with 24 W's. This is most likely due to 3 things:

1. Luck

2. Excellent relief pitching

3. Late inning rallies and wins (when you score a run to win in the 9th, the game any other inning, a team would have a chance to score more).

So, per runs, they are on pace for 81 wins. Per actual wins, they are pace for 95 wins. That's quite a difference, to say the least.

There are a couple ways to look at this, and memory says they are both correct:

1. If they play "to pace" the rest of the season, they should end up with 3 more wins than they "should" have.

2. These things tend to even out over 162 games.

So, to be brief; it's great to be ahead, but things tend to even out. With the many injuries this team has suffered, if they were hovering at .500, I don't think that would be a bad result at all. Anything above that, huge plus.

--What else is no one discussing? The team defense has been outstanding. They are 1st in defensive runs saved, which takes shifting into account, and they are 5th in ultimate zone rating, which ignores shifting.

DRS leaders? Arcia, Shaw, Santana, and Cain.

UZR leaders? Arcia, Braun (in LF), Shaw, and Santana.

Santana and Braun have always seemed passable to above average in the OF (Domingo played some CF the season he came over from HOU and did fine), but their metrics have always sucked. Adam Jones, who has won several Gold Gloves, also suffers from this, as to several others.

Seinfeld is far too intelligent to be critical of half his audience.

Jay Leno, who was once a loyal Dem, but admitted they lost him as he got older as they focused on everything but the working man, understood this perfectly. You make fun of the fat guy for wearing a bright colored shirt, and you make fun of the bald guy for being far less good looking compared to his wife.

With Trump, he'd be making fun of his hair, his tan, and be wondering if Melania needed glasses. The president would be laughing right along with him, as would Trump voters. The current crop are all too stupid to realize this.

I find it strange this article thinks youth ministry is "stuck in the 80's," while never mentioning church services in general are stuck in the 50's and 60's.

If a time traveler from 65 years ago were to land in a church, other than some electronic equipment he'd be puzzled by, he'd notice almost no difference.

Also note how it just skips over the fact the only religion gaining is "other Christians." Heaven forbid (pun intended) anyone realizes that and tries to emulate shorter, more exciting, less dull services.

Aaron Wilkerson returned today in AAA and went 5+ innings in his first start back, 2 runs, 0 walks, 6 K's. Given all the injuries, at this second, he might be the next guy in line.

Barnes jumped right in and got the save, giving up a run in the 9th. With altitude, as we just saw this weekend, you forget how tough it is to pitch there.

(5/13/2018 04:32:00 PM) - Al

Peralta might just have earned himself another start, even if one was not planned. :)

By far the most impressive aspect was he was getting swings and misses on fastballs right down the middle at 92-93, much like Josh Hader does. Without much of a scouting report, at least, he was mighty tough to hit and must have been hard to pick up. Seemed like he threw about 80% or more fastballs too.

And to think some rubes think he will not remain a SP because of his height.:) I'd be delighted to be wrong, and there are always exceptions.

Hey, it's just math...the vast majority of RH SP are 6-1 or taller.

You want to know something? I am "I thought Freddy Peralta's mom was his girlfriend" years old.

When you're my age, everyone looks young, I guess.

Surprised he's only throwing mostly 90-91, but just had a breaking ball that was reminiscent of Thornburg or Axford, dropped about 2.5 feet into the dirt, batter missed it by a foot. He looks every bit as short as he's listed at 5-11. Let's hope he can continue as a SP, but the odds are against him. Just hit 93, so maybe he's loosening up, might be a tad cooler than you think.

Brewers' current rotation

Add in Aaron Wilkerson, who is on the minor league DL (and actually makes a AAA start today), which group would you take if healthy? The DL group is a bit top heavy and drops off quickly after #3, but most fans would take their chances with the unhealthy ones.
