I would compare this to a woman defending her husband who may be a bit of a jerk...he may be a jerk, but he's the one who takes care of the household, so shut the hell up.

Or, put another way...

Concerned Counsell seemed as worried about Cain as he did Shaw. They might well be without one or both for 10 days.

No doubt the depth will be tested.

Last updated with the games of SUN, 6/24.

With luck, I will try to keep this updated daily.

Years ago, Pete Vuckovich was the Brewers' TV color guy, or one of 2-3 that season, I can't recall. For all of his drunken exploits and overall goofy stories involving him that are brought up; he was a pitching coach, pitching coordinator, scout, or assistant to the GM for a variety of MLB teams for the better part of the past 30 years, so he's not some dumb oaf. He was far from a brilliant analyst, as his knowledge was almost entirely talking pitching and pitch selection.

However, one night, almost in passing, the Brewers scored their 4th run of the game, and went up like 4-1 or 4-2. He called that "the run of victory," or something like that. He went onto say, for all but a team or two, the 4th run was key. In fact, he said, almost every club will have a losing record if they score 3, but a winning mark if they score 4. The play by play guy, who I think was Jim Patchke, all but ignored it.

Vuke, probably pushed on by the guys in the truck, as this was like Twain literature compared to his usual drivel, added the same was true for pitching, if you give up 4 or less, you'll probably win, and 5 or more, you'll probably lose. I have always remembered this and have always found it to be 100% accurate...but have never heard another baseball person say it, even 30 years later.

The other thing I'll add is note how much better of a manager Counsell is when his pitchers pitch nicely and/or his hitters score a bunch. It's not a complicated game.

I admit, I think President Trump either made a bad calculation, or he simply went with his family/advisors rather than his gut.

I simply would have said, "I sure hate seeing those kids separated from their parents. That said, most of them are unaccompanied, anywhere from 70-90%. And, damn it, if you break the law, you don't get to keep your kids. Them's the facts. I suggest if they want to keep their kids, they stay on the other side of the border."

The truth is, not only would it have blown the minds of the liberals, his base would have smiled, pumped their fist, and said, "That's my president."

(6/24/2018 07:30:00 PM) - Al

Trump has taken advantage of the fact the left just takes the opposite side. They have now come out against tax cuts, a booming economy, and peace in Korea; and for gangs, a violent dictator in Korea, and open borders.

Crazy like a fox. They have spent the last 2.5 years underestimating him, and being played over and over.

Her's hoping they continue thinking they got him all figured out. Because as of now, they really, really suck at it.

(6/24/2018 04:16:00 PM) - Al

Soda taxes do not work because you're punishing behavior that is, at best, a mild annoyance. People aren't going to change their ways, but they will buy it (and a lot of it) when they're out of the tax zone.

No. No, I am not.

(6/24/2018 03:49:00 PM) - Al

If Shaw is DL'd, be interesting to see who they bring up...could be almost any position or another pitcher, as Counsell felt "short" enough to today to allow Chacin to go at least several batters what CC wanted to.

They did not send Houser down despite him getting 6 outs yesterday, which is either because he's been pitching good enough they wanted him to stay or because they did not have anyone to bring up. It may have been related to the Monday day off also.

I'd like to see Aaron Wilkerson added to the up and down club, as he may well end up as a swingman if he has a career in the majors. AW throws in that 88-91 range where he would be a change of pace from most starters, and then the hitters would have to kick it back up a notch for the relief corps.

I'll throw out another sleeper, Mike Zagurski, who is a 35 year old lefty reliever who has a 1ish ERA away from the altitude of Colorado Springs, and has also been very solid against LH hitters (36 outs vs. lefties, 21 by K).MZ is not on the 40, but with an open spot, they won't hesitate fill it if they think it will help them.

Harrison Bader reminds me of Christian Yelich. Does everything well, Bader has a stronger arm, and I think may develop more power than CY, maybe 25-30 homers per year.

I've a big fan of Kela, and he's under team control for 3.5 more seasons. He would be costly. Diekman is a rental and a wild rental at that, though his K's make up for most of his walks.

Kela is actually a Knebel clone of sorts.

(6/23/2018 06:30:00 PM) - Al

Counsell on Miller's role with team: "What we may ask him is to move around the field more regularly, on a daily basis. Whether it be in double switches or starting role. He is versatile; he's a very good athlete. He has done this before." CC said Miller would play some SS.--JS

Translation: He is a LH hitter that can't hit LHP. Hence, versus RHP, he'll probably be in there, especially if he is hitting the ball. Right now, the middle infield spots will be a bit of a 5 man weave, with Arcia, Miller, Perez, Villar, and Sogard. There will likely be games in which 2 guys start and 2 others finish. We might well see games in which Perez or Miller start, and in the 5th or 6th, will be taken out, since the team is up 4-1.

Go 2 for 3, you'll probably be back in there the next day. Go for 0-4, you probably won't. Hit like Aguilar, you'll be in there 6 days a week. Going with the hot hand is another way of looking at it.

Yep. Me too.

Thank goodness they have been so negative and lacking a plan.

As I have discussed may times, I have a 65+ year old woman friend on FB (I worked with her for years and never heard her raise her voice), who after the election admitted she filled out her entire ballot and then went back to vote for president, thinking about it several minutes, Finally, she said, she went with the person she thought would do a better job running the country, even though she personally disliked both major candidates.

She now proudly posts positive Trump info, while her kids chide her because they hate prosperity. Last time she said, "Why don't you quit reading if you don't like it?" They have not commented again that I have seen since.

Sometimes, you just gotta tell the bullies to go to hell.

6/23/2018 01:30:00 PM

(6/23/2018 01:19:00 PM) - Al

For those wondering, Santana has one option left. If he remains in the minors for 20 days total this season, he will not have any options left. This would limit his trade value, even moreso since he has struggled this year. However, if he spends 19 or fewer days optioned, he will retain that option.

Given the Brewers current state of contention, it's unlikely to be a high priority to save that option.

I'm sure there are plenty of clubs that would love to "buy low" on Santana and Arcia, both of whose value is probably about half what it was last offseason. I actually saw a trade proposal of Manny Machado for Arcia, Santana, and a prospect of note just a few days ago. That would have been ridiculous last NOV, as even Arcia for 3-4 months of Machado would have been an overpay. Suddenly, it makes sense, as Domingo and Orlando have each lost some value, though BAL is as unconcerned about this year's production as any team has ever been. And, the prospect (maybe a top 100 or 150 type) would likely be the most desired addition; but young, cheap players like Arcia and Santana would certainly be welcome in a rebuild.

A perfect scenario would be for DS to go down and rake in AAA, and return when an injury or need comes up, maybe in 10-14 days.

6/23/2018 01:19:00 PM

(6/23/2018 12:25:00 PM) - Al

Miller has played for several years in the majors, been DFA'd, and is now in MIL.

His first thought: Can we go down the slide?

Mine: Gee, he looks so young.

Reminds me of that old joke, you see an old guy walking down the street in your hometown, and then notice he graduated from high school...several years after you did.

6/23/2018 12:25:00 PM

(6/23/2018 12:11:00 PM) - Al

Santana sent to AAA to get some AB's. Brad Miller up, in the lineup at 2B today. I'm surprised Braun is not in the lineup today, nor did he PH last night. If 100%...or even 80%, he seemed like a better choice than Sogard, though Eric getting a base hit makes Counsell look like a genius.

I was right, just early.

Miller played only SS at AAA until last night, when he played 2B. If he has admitted to not being comfy at SS, one has to wonder if they will ask Villar about picking up some time there. To my knowledge, Villar has not played SS or 3B since he was made the everyday 2B, just a few games in CF late last season.

For the moment, I would expect Sogard or Perez to replace Miller late in the game for defense at 2B (if ahead, of course). Always kind of silly, we all know why they do it, but it's like defense doesn't cost a team runs until the 8th inning.

In a bit of irony, one would expect Arcia to perhaps go down for a couple weeks to try and get his offense going, but if JV or Miller or Perez is going to play SS...they might want to keep Orlando around to play the field in late game situations.

Nice of the AAA schedule to work out, putting Miller in Des Moines, allowing him to play last night, instead of catching a flight.

6/23/2018 05:30:00 AM

(6/23/2018 03:30:00 AM) - Al

Actually, this is the exact opposite of what they should be doing.

They need to say, "this is why we disagree and what we intend to do better." That, thus far, is completely lacking.

A better phrase would be, "Vote for us and feel better about yourself, and your future."

The fact that Donny, who has been in marketing his entire life, has no idea what to say to make anyone except far left Dems not want to vote for the president is very, very telling.

(6/22/2018 08:00:00 PM) - Al

The fact Time, a news magazine, put a fictional story on the cover and is now defending it is, quite frankly, a dream come true for conservatives, the GOP, President Trump, and anyone associated with a Republican.

What's almost impossible to believe is just how self important they think they are, making the excuse that "it rings true."

Translation? "We knew it wasn't true. We ran it anyway."

Hillary came up with the term "fake news." Trump has perfected how to use it and how to excite his base by using it. And, perhaps most amazingly, those doing their best to keep the phrase from dying?

The old media themselves.

I preface this with a "if true" because the old media is as reliable as a 88 year old woman on her 3rd bottle of liquor (since breakfast, which was her first bottle), but, IF TRUE, what the hell was McCain thinking?

While I blame many of his recent terrible decisions on his dislike (and jealousy) of President Trump, this, like those pictures of kids of criminals, are from the Obama administration.

EDIT: I would feel better about this if it came from someone other than McCain's communications person, but, it's far better than nothing.

(6/22/2018 03:27:00 PM) - Al

Preach it sister.

Nothing those whiners say makes me do anything but roll my eyes harder. All you have to do is follow the rules, and when they can't be bothered to even do that; the absolute bare minimum and just want to wander their way across the border into a life of luxury (never forget, our lower class is like their upper class), any sympathy I had for them having the misfortune to be living in a hellhole quickly dissipates and they become common criminals.

I've been saying this for 40 years.

(6/22/2018 12:21:00 PM) - Al

If I'm Dave Stearns, I claim Thompson and DFA him immediately. He is close to being able to sneak down to AAA due to his poor numbers this season. Braun is always a risk to be injured, Santana could be traded to a team willing to overlook his below average first 3 months of 2018, and while Perez is a nice, versatile piece; he's well subpar for a corner OF offensively.

They have an open spot on the 40, use it.

I know not it's a nothing burger by the way the left has told the old media (hence, I repeat myself) to focus on this children of criminals being left alone at the border "story" that has been going on for a half decade at least and pretending it's news.

It's not a coincidence the focus shifted to the kids right after the IG report was released. They may not stand for anything, but they're not stupid.

From friend of Ramblings High Heat 19, rumors involving the Brewers at this early date.

--Brewers are currently exploring "ALL" pitching options which is nothing new.

--However, Tyson Ross is a target of interest as is Kyle Gibson of the Twins as they would be cheaper in the Brewers eyes.

--Brewers have interest in Jacob deGrom. More in deGrom than Noah Syndergaard at this moment with a close eye on Syndergaard's strained ligament in his finger.

--Brewers have discussed Manny Machado and would be open to sending Arcia as part of a package along with pitchers not named Peralta.

--Peralta will likely not be traded in any scenario as he is seen as a big component for September. Brewers will NOT offer anything big for Machado but all of the Brewers minor league outfielders are open to be traded.--High Heat 19

Thank you to HH19 for sharing this with us. I was just thinking the other day, before Freddy returned to start TUE, "I wonder if he might have success in a Josh Hader like role."

Imagine seeing Suter on your first PA, Peralta on your 2nd, and Hader on your 3rd. That would be a mighty tough adjustment.

Gibson is a very interesting name to me, as he has "underperformed" a bit, even his secondary stats seem far better than his ERA.

Brewers' rained out game from tonight will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader on SAT, 7/14, game one begins at 11:35 Central time.

The Pirates chose that day despite both teams having the day off SEP20 with the Brewers coming in for a 3 game weekend series SEP21-23, with no problems with playing 20+ days in a row.

They don't seem very good at this scheduling stuff.

Friend of Ramblings High Heat 19 will be checking in tomorrow morning with a newsy update, discussing what the Brewers have been planning and discussing to improve the team.

Thank you very much to HH for making Ramblings his new home for rumors. I might look for that about 10ish. FYI.

6/20/2018 09:39:00 PM

(6/20/2018 08:44:00 PM) - Al

Adam is assuming all the SP's will "be bumped" a single day. With a MON day off, Peralta could be moved back all the way to next SAT. However, if he were to be optioned, he would have to stay 10 days. You can take it back to when he last pitched though, so if TUE counts, TUE/WED/THU/FRI/SAT/SUN/MON/TUE/WED/THU/FRI/SAT is 12, so even without the first TUE and last SAT, it's still 10. However, I cannot recall if that is the case or not.

I'm sure he will be optioned ASAP if that is the case. Time will tell. They could bring up a reliever or a position player...they could bring up Brad Miller as early as tomorrow, or, they could bring up any player in the organization, since they have an open spot on the 40 man, as they did with Nick Franklin earlier in the season.

The fact he hasn't predicted an election correctly since 2008 makes a lot more sense now that we've found out Nate Silver has trouble calculating a blankety blanking tip.

Nate, 10% is moving the decimal over one. Make an easy amount to work with. Double it. Round up, drop change. Done.

1. Example: {$42.76.}

2. Move decimal 4.276. Make into an easy amount {4.25}.

3. Double it  {8.50}.

4. Round up, dropping change {9.00}.

5. Many would "round this up" to $10, to be honest.

I tend to "round up" to an even amount, such as making the total $55 and then making the tip the difference, as that adds up immensely for the tipped employee.

Gee, I hope that wasn't "too much math and stuff" for ya. The key is...don't ever tip low enough so someone thinks, "That guy doesn't know how to tip." As an adult in the USA, that's just embarrassing.

I wondered this last night when I saw he pitched in relief, though I figured he was probably just getting in some innings because Davies or someone was stealing his start.

Burnes is not on the 40 man roster, and would not have to go on until after the 2019 season. Using him this year in the majors, even for a single pitch, means protecting one less prospect this offseason. That would have to be a very tough call for the braintrust, as it would be for Hiura, who is in the same circumstance, but after 2020.

Take the two prospects that you, under no circumstances, would ever want your team to trade. Then, add 2-4 more good pieces to it and you might have a decent framework.--MLBTR chat on what it would take to acquire Syndergard from the Mets.

Peralta activated, Logan DFA'd.

That's a very small sample for Boone, especially when one looks at his velocity returning and his overall bad luck. Obviously, results matter, but as I have discussed before, when you have a .414 BAbip, it's impossible to have success.

Logan will almost certainly revert back to form, or close to form, once he ends up elsewhere, barring some sort of lingering injury. I suppose he could agree to go to AAA, but I assume there's half a dozen teams already contacting his agent, so that would seem unlikely.

I am wondering how much this move had to do with opening a 40 man spot, if any.

Hawks' players will be linked to MIL because of the coaching staff. Bazemore was highly sought after by the Bucks when he was a free agent as well.

I like Schroder as well, but he is very overpaid and he is a Jennings' type, very hot and cold.

Bazemore is basically Khris Middleton light, and the Bucks already have KM, so it'd be a strange marriage.

I only drove 1400 miles in the last 7.5 months, but looking online, all the recommendations say to change the oil once every 12 months regardless of miles (for instance, if it's a classic car), or every 6 months if you live in a cold climate.

Or, if you use synthetic, you can get away with only once a year.

Even though it is mostly luck, and luck should not "even out" so to speak...it tends to do just that. Teams that have a great won loss record in one run games in the first half rarely repeat that in the second half.

Those complaining about losing 10-9 and 1-0 on consecutive days (well, they should have won at least one of them!) have already completely forgotten about winning 2-0 and 1-0 against one of the best offensive teams in MLB last week (well, they easily could have lost BOTH of them...it's just math).

6/18/2018 10:00:00 PM

(6/18/2018 09:31:00 PM) - Al

This is an overly simple take, but Counsell is probably trying to rally some emotion among the rest of his position player group. To be honest, they have been good, but Thames and Aguilar have been better for the money.

Of course, let's be honest here...if a pitcher can shut down Cain and Yelich, they do have a pretty good chance of getting the rest of the order out too. This is the case with any team. That's why teams often pick a player they "do not let him beat you."

The prize of the rental reliever market about to go to the Nats, as they have made a deal for Herrera. This will help set the market for other bullpen help as well as well.

The haul is 3 players: A OF who ranks as a "45" prospect, who would be similar to Troy Stokes or Jake Greenwood in the MIL system, and 2 unranked prospects, at lest on the MLB.com top 30 list. Certainly a lot for 100 games (probably about 40 IP for Herrera), but not cost prohibitive.

On FRI, I called to add the Rambling son to our policy.

Today, I called to add the new Rambling wife's vehicle to our policy. This is why I hate people so.

It's just inconceivable to me that these companies insist on charging more for inexperienced drivers and new SUV's.--sarcasm

{I'm a capitalist, I get it.}

For those curious, adding the boy just about doubled our premium. Adding the vehicle, $50 more a month.

Rambling wife and Al, 2 cars--about $70 a month
Wife, Al, and boy--about $138 a month (would have been $149 w/o good student discount, thank you wife's genetic intelligence)
New vehicle and 2 old cars--about $190 a month

We weren't all that unhappy, as I distinctly recall when one of my department managers added her 16 year old son, their policy went up $2000 for the year. This was about 2006. Ours went up about $1440 adding the son and another vehicle. Comparatively, we were expecting more.

The more far lefties that visit us rubes and realize we're not all racist idiots, the worse it is for the GOP.

We count on that "talking down effect" to steal votes. Obama was an absolute master at it, pushing away his majorities by pretending to know what was best for all and calling the ones that pushed him over the top "bitter clingers" and the like.

Surprised illness doesn't happen more with those pitchers brought up from the minors, they get little sleep, travel commercial early in the AM, eat strange food, get introduced to new germs on plane, taxis, clubhouse, and so on. And when it's 100 degrees, any minor problems are made a lot worse.

Occam's razor.

They thought they would win and shred all the emails, the warrants, and the fibs. They didn't.

I can only continue to say the same thing so many times until the left's "end of the world as we know it," "well maybe it happened like this" goes from an eye roll to the boy crying wolf.

(6/16/2018 08:00:00 PM) - Al

Adam wonders if Lopez will go down after throwing 2 frames today.

He may, but they do have an 8 man bullpen. When Peralta comes up, if they go down to a 7 man pen, they may be more aggressive. Wilkerson just pitched, while Woodruff has not been down long enough. That said, Houser, Asher, and Diplan are all still on the 40 and would be thrilled to fly into MIL.

ADDED: Houser started a game and went 5 innings MON, so I assume he would be the guy.

(6/16/2018 07:38:00 PM) - Al

Boone Logan pitched well today, as a bloop hit, walk that missed by a fraction of an inch from an inconsistent home plate arbiter, and a soft ground ball to 3B is hardly poor pitching.

Being results oriented is fine, though you will embarrass yourself quite often, as one has to understand you're going to be up and down an awful lot, as line drives are often caught while ground balls sneak through. Just the way it is.

Amen.

Notice how Graham is now one of Trump's biggest allies, and McCain would say Trump had no clue about AIDS if he cured cancer. One is looking at the upcoming elections, one is just trying to be a pain.

Sadly, much of that would appear to be McCain's unfortunate imminent demise causing him not to give a rat's ass about the future. Right now, the closest comparison I can make is a pissy ex wife who wants her husband's baseball card collection just because she knows he loves it.

McCain found out he was dying, and immediately hired a ghost writer to pen his autobiography. He won't resign, but says he cannot travel to DC to vote...despite flying to and from treatment and his home in AZ often.

Surprised to see Brad Miller only used as a PH last night in AAA. I thought he would play SS most days, and DH a couple days a week. He does not seem to be on a fast track to MIL.

Nice to see Arcia get a couple hits last night. He's still very young, and he has holes in his swing. Scouts see that, pitchers and pitching coaches take advantage of that. If you swing at bad pitches, you will rarely see good pitches. He's still years from peaking.

Wheaton would be the first one to rip apart a conservative, no matter how baseless the charge.

Wait a minute here. Notice when it's a friend of his, he has to carefully process everything and probably get legal advice before commenting.

Wheaton was a pompous jerk when I used to sit at his table on Poker Stars and he still is. Bad things often happen to bad people.

Over on other side of town. Wife suggests we pick up KFC for supper. Call son and ask him what he thinks. He says that would be ok, but he prefers Lee's, which is only a couple miles from our house. I ask him, well you would eat KFC if we got it?

"I guess."

30 days?

Well, to be fair, Rand Paul is not only a Republican, but a very conservative one.

Quick, if the same assault would take place versus Obama, even today, the sentence would be closer to 30 years...right?

I have a former acquaintance who is accused of telling friends of a house to burglarize. Since the "friends" used a weapon of some sort to hit the resident on the head, this person is being charged with armed robbery, which carries a sentence of 10-20 years. They have been offered 10 years if they plead guilty. Remember, there is no question, from what I can tell at least, that my friend DID NOT actually hit or hurt anyone.

The guy physically assaulted a sitting US senator, breaking ribs. 30 days.

I've only seen heavily edited 2-3 minute versions, but it's wonderful to see everyone on the Republican side of the aisle literally jumping up and down at the President Trump impromptu presser this AM. Classic, vintage Trump, calling out CNN, Comey, and everyone else that should be and deserves to be laughed at and scorned.

If you'll recall, just a short while back, everyone said that he should never do that, and he should never be on Twitter. They were wrong, and they're quickly admitting it. Seeing someone on the GOP side fight back was once so scary, and now, after 16 months of Trump, is being roundly cheered.

Peralta goes 3 effective innings and is pulled early. He would certainly look to be the odds on favorite to get the start TUE.

6/14/2018 10:05:00 PM

(6/14/2018 08:39:00 PM) - Al

Nothing to see here. Carry on. As Maria Bartiromo said this morning, it's become very apparent that "Russia" was just a diversion to try and move attention away from the actual crime and misdoings.

{Imagine that.}

She added, "at least what we've seen so far" to maintain credibility with the half dozen folks still expecting Mueller to find a video of President Trump in overalls with a screwdriver in his hand, fiddling with voting machines in MI and WI, holding a Russian instruction book, giggling like a schoolgirl.

As for this nugget, a Dem on TV tonight actually said "It wasn't missing. It was edited, because it was unimportant.  When the host said how a FBI agent saying Trump would never win because the FBI would stop it, the reply was, "One FBI agent can't get a search warrant. One can't effect an election either."

I, of course, am unsure if Stearns has any interest in any of the Padres' relievers (though, I'm sure DS is doing "due diligence" on every team and every reliever that could improve his team).

That said, if he does, the Pads may well have some interest in Santana or Phillips. While the Crew may not want to move either, one must admit, OF is where MIL has the most depth, and where SD is the weakest.

6/14/2018 02:00:00 PM

(6/14/2018 01:00:00 PM) - Al

I would agree 100%.

Relievers are far cheaper than SP's on the trade market.

You can have 8-10 quality relievers, you can't really have more than 5 starters.

Jeffress is, to be blunt, not going to keep up anywhere near his current pace.

Hader has never pitched a full season of relief in his life.

Knebel, while solid, is nothing compared to his domination last season.

Barnes and Williams, both young and solid, have had outings where they have been one pitch pitchers, because they can't get their breaking ball close enough to the plate to generate swings and misses. I now that's like saying my brilliant  supermodel girlfriend is only a mediocre cook, but you know what I mean.

I knew what was going to happen. He's (President Trump) going to play hardball and they're going to come back to the table. He understands how to do these things.

When I see these pundits say, "Oh, I've been dealing with this for 30 years," hey, for 30 years, you couldn't even get in a room with the guy to have a meeting.

The other side is almost upset we're not in a nuclear war because it means that President Trump was effective, but guess what, what they've been doing for 60 years, since the end of that war, totally ineffective. Someone else comes in, brings a different approach, a business like approach, guess what? More progress in 16 months than they've had in 60 years, yet, they continue to knock it. It was textbook Trump.--Donald Trump Jr.

Let me sum up the past year plus on North Korea policy from the left:

--We're too scared to even pretend to do anything but shudder at the mere mention of a nutty dictator.

--What is President Trump doing? He's going to make him mad.

--We need to do something, but I have no idea what, except it should not be what President Trump is doing.

--We know what will happen at this meeting. Nothing.

--Well, I can't believe we gave up so much in this agreement. Those military exercises that we've never brought up or ever mentioned before are integral to the readiness of the armed forces that we nickel and dime and disrespect every chance we get, because our voters despise them.

I forget who said it, but the lack of a congratulatory statement on North Korea from any of the living presidents pretty much tells you all you need to know. Jealousy is a tough way to live your life.

6/14/2018 07:36:00 AM

(6/14/2018 07:10:00 AM) - Al

Al,

I just finished listening to the "Win Bigly" and I had a couple of comments.

The book was not what I thought it would be about. It was all about the power of persuasion which now that I have finished it, it makes me sit here in awe of Trump and his processes. After Scott described examples of mass persuasion and how Trump uses them, I can't look at anything he does or says now any other way. He has a mastery of the art. The other world leaders don't stand a chance when in the court of public opinion. They have teams of advisers and Trump just goes off the cuff with his gut (amazing how many times he nails it). Like you commented the other day, Trump talks to everyone with basic words (Scott talked about this too in the book). The perfect example is this morning when he said the following:
George S: Did you talk about pulling troops out? U.S. troops out of South Korea.
Trump: We didn’t discuss that, no. But we’re not gonna play the war games. You know, I wanted to stop the war games, I thought they were very provocative. But I also think they’re very expensive. We’re running the country properly, I think they’re very, very expensive. To do it, we have to fly planes in from Guam -- that’s six and a half hours away. Big bombers and everything else, I said, ‘Who’s paying for this?’ I mean, who pays, in order to practice. What are the kinds of security. So one of the things that I suggested and I wanna do is we’re going to stop the war games, unless for some reason, we’re unable to go further.
So he wins no matter how it turns out. If it works, he looks like a genius, if it doesn't he was also right because it goes back to the way its been for 50 years and the blame falls on Kim not Trump (hey at least we tried). Once you listen to the book, it's amazing to see Trump in action and recognize his ability. It was a very insightful book, I highly recommend it.

Adams is not a Trump supporter (I'm not sure your normal readers know this or not, I didn't). Adams' core beliefs and mine are on very far apart.

Please keep up the great work, I check-in multiples times during the day.

Joe

Thank you for writing Joe. I heartily recommend this book to all. On one final note, those folks that insist on saying President Trump is not intelligent, and has somehow lucked into his business empire and life success...keep underestimating him. He's so far ahead, I'm not sure his detractors even know what game they're playing.

I just hope he doesn't remind us what a success Obamacare was, or the Senate is toast.

Let's be honest, saving $2500 on premiums and keeping your own doctor and plan is far better than, you know, supply and demand, free market medical that, you know, worked far better.

That said, he was going to lose WI by 9 points if you believe the Marquette Law poll that was released just a few days before the election.

Unless you're using Rasmussen, you might as well be asking CNN. Those other firms would have Jesus Christ polling at 35% if he was a Republican.

After an offseason of hearing Matt Kemp was worthless, I see he's the leading NL all star vote getter thus far.

Kemp is certainly overpaid, and is a below average defender in either LF or RF. That said, the masses certainly do not understand how much players are worth. As a FA, Kemp would have his choice of offers, probably even some of the 2 or 3 year variety. That's very similar to Ryan Braun...who would have a multitude of interest if he were a FA, but almost none on the contract he is currently on (and, with his ability to veto a trade, would probably only approve a trade to the Dodgers, as of today at least).

I received a very serious email today about what will happen when the "Brewers' wives and girlfriends" have a man in the group.

I'm sure they already have, but that person, and player, have decided against publicizing it. They will just call themselves "Brewers' significant others" or something like that and it will go all but unnoticed. Actually, after the first one, it will go completely unnoticed.

The best part of this to me is, a decade ago, everyone seemed to think all gay people were liberals. The Log Cabin Republicans have been around for ages and are always well represented at GOP functions.

After being brilliant in April and May, Albers had allowed nine hits and eight runs in 3 2/3 innings in June (19.64 ERA). Now, he goes on 10-day DL with shoulder issue.--JS

Jorge Lopez brought up to take his roster spot.

As I talked about a month or so again, when everyone else was talking about having Hader, Albers, Jennings, and Jeffress pitch more often and for longer stretches, I said they were all over a 70 inning pace, and were unlikely to be able to keep that up all season, despite using that revolving door of a last bullpen spot to have a fresh arm available.

The only thing casual fans know is they, in reality, don't know anything.

I just read the transcript, and not only is it explained in very simple, easy to understand terms (no "we may need some revenue enhancement" moments), it is perhaps one of the finest moments any of us have ever witnessed in presidential history.

The irony is, while those on the left; perennially negative, as is their custom, are digging deep to try and nitpick minor items, I don't see any downside at all. If North Korea lied and does nothing, we're in the exact same spot we have been for the past several decades. In 8 years, Obama did nothing, didn't even pretend to want to get involved. He was satisfied, as with all his foreign policy (except sending cash to Iran), just kicking the can down the road.

If this thing holds and in the upcoming months, nuclear warheads start to be dismantled and that process begins...it's one of the greatest political victories anyone under the age of 70 have ever seen.

Easy one.

The minute he ran as a Republican.

When that's all you got, it's obvious. Every white conservative is a racist, while every black conservative is an Uncle Tom.

Hey, when you're against tax cuts and say low unemployment doesn't matter, while coming out in favor of illegals in violent gangs, it's almost as if they really don't have a platform.

I tell you what...being right all the time is just exhausting.

Recycling was never about anything except making people aware of the fact most stuff ain't recyclable. No one buys the small amount of stuff that does get recycled, because it's crap and is not near as good as the fresh, new stuff.

So, what happens? One truck picks up garbage. Another truck picks up "recycling." They use twice as much gas and labor as they should, so the company charges the city 3 times more than they should, because they're not going to take a loss because the city mandates stupidity. The city transfers that cost to the residents, because they're too dumb to even notice, and because they've been working all day and just pay the bills because that's all they can do.

And at the end of each day, the 2 drivers of the 2 trucks unload their crap next to each other at the landfill, and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh.

And by the way Al, quit saying tree huggers are goofballs. They're saving the world. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to weep for the future.

Efrickingads. And they will proudly call me an uneducated rube.

I recall one year they had the state cross country meet the same Saturday as they had an ACT or SAT test, and the old media actually ran stories asking if kids would not show up for the state meet. They have those tests 6 times a year, you know.

I'd say they were out of touch, but I wouldn't want to offend the out of touch.

Many fans seem to be arguing that Miller is not a SS (or has not been for 2 seasons).

Simply put, he certainly is not an upgrade at 1B, 3B, or OF; and minimal at best at 2B. That would seem to leave...

Considering he was all but free, it's worth a shot. If he can hit like he has in Tampa and be just somewhat below average at SS, that's a vast improvement for the team.

6/10/2018 06:39:00 PM

(6/10/2018 06:29:00 PM) - Al

It's funny because it's true.

How dare you want to do what we do because we just do it to help you out but don't you dare do it because it would devastate our economy!

This is EXACTLY how they think, and regardless of how stupid it is, no one has ever challenged them before, so they don't even realize how absurd it sounds.

(6/10/2018 06:00:00 PM) - Al

I would agree 100%. The left argues with emotion, the right with facts.

Obamacare was all about the children. If you can't afford to buy it, it doesn't help the children. We knew premiums would soar because there was no competition, and the insurance companies had to assume everyone was in poor health.

If the choice is to hope for good health, because getting ill will bankrupt you; or buying a policy that bankrupts you, that really isn't a choice at all.

Love Mike Huckabee. Wish he would have talked this tough when he was running for president, he came off as a "aw shucks, aren't I likable?" type. I remember several folks comparing him to Sheriff Andy Taylor (or worse, Gomer Pyle or Goober).

And after 8 years of Obama caving into hellhole terrorist nations, having the toughest negotiator in the room is not a bad thing. Obama just wanted to make a deal so he could brag about making a deal, because they were never made public, because they were so god awful.

{We'll give you billions in cash, and you promise to quit your nuclear program...but we can't check!}

Trump wants to kick ass and then walk out, and then inform everyone he kicked ass.

(6/10/2018 05:31:00 PM) - Al

Brewers land Brad Miller for Choi. MIL gets cash to cover some of Miller's salary.

I talked about Miller here. The Crew probably had a handshake agreement to get Choi in the bigs if a team had an interest, and he's far from a young top prospect. Good deal for all. We'll see how the Crew uses Miller, but I think he'll get some time at SS, though I have no doubt he'll be a noticeable step down defensively from Arcia or Sogard. If he puts up a 750 OPS, they will accept that.

I would assume he will take the place on the 25 man of either Sogard or Arcia, with the other being kept to go in and play defense IF they do play him at SS.

EDIT: For the time being, Miller has been optioned to AAA Colorado Springs, where I assume he'll play SS. He has 4+ years of major league experience, so I do not believe they had to obtain his permission to go down. Also, I assume more than one team claimed Miller, or the Brewers would have acquired with for nothing.

6/10/2018 05:31:00 PM

(6/10/2018 03:42:00 PM) - Al

Bad luck on the bad hop, and a bit of a misplay by both Shaw on said bad hop and Aguilar for going for the out at 3B instead of the "sure out" at 1B allow the Phillies to score a couple more than they should have in the 5th, and that's all it took. Those coin flip games, giving up 3 in an inning instead of 1 is devastating.

Woodruff's error, completely unforced, also hurt, allowed the Phillies to basically score with just a leadoff single.

I was disappointed they did not send Santana with 2 down...a good throw, and even a decent throw gets him, but Yelich probably only has a 35-40% chance of getting that run home, and I'm always in favor of making the defense make the play...an overthrow or if the relay hits the runner, they might have scored a pair.

Domingo looked like he expected to be held as well, so that may have played a part.

Timeline of public's thoughts on President Trump and tariffs
A couple weeks ago--President Trump doesn't know what he's doing. Tariffs are bad, don't understand why the president wants them.

A week ago--Why do these other countries have tariffs on US goods, but we do not have any on theirs?

Last couple days--Canada has 250-290% tariffs on dairy products? We should do that to what they import.

Now--President Trump knows what he's doing.

1. All is proceeding as Scott Adams predicted. More and more you see the same phrase, or a paraphrase of it, "I'm not a fan (or "I don't like him personally"), but he knows what he's doing."

2. Notice the only way he has explained this to the public, 90% of which do not really know what a tariff is, is through Twitter. The old media keeps saying other nations are unhappy he plans to add a tariff, while never explaining they have tariffs or other protectionist entities to artificially hold down US exports. This is why the left keeps insisting his Twitter is awful, because it works. If they actually thought it was awful, they would want him to use it. Hence, the phrase, "thou doth protest too much*" fits perfectly.

*Hamlet, Billy S...get with it you rubes.

EDIT: The milk market is way up so far today, especially a year into the future. One would seem to think they feel a better deal with Canada (and possibly others) will be the end result.

Obama is God, Maher ripping on Reagan, Couric telling everyone the NRA is responsible for school shootings, Ellerbee wondering why anyone would want to come to the USA.

It's timeless. You can't tell if these were said yesterday or 40 years ago. Same slanted anti American gibberish, same bias, same everything.

You want to know what's scary? Republicans and independents are hoping the summit in Singapore goes well to make the world a safer place, now and in the future. Dems are hoping it goes badly do they can say "Told ya so."

(6/10/2018 10:45:00 AM) - Al

As I said the other day, it's pure genius. The players, the vast majority at least, are not smart enough to have any idea what to look for. They are "protesting" nothing, so they do not have any recommendations, and most are far too busy partying, abusing women, and partying to find anyone. Sure they can have "their people" do it, but, for the most part, most of them will never think of it again. And if they do, great. If they fit any minimal criteria, they can be pardoned or have their sentences commuted. There are no negatives for President Trump.

They got played...again. They're way, way out of their league.

Bought a bunch of those little solar lights at Menards the other day. They cost $1.50-2 and usually wear out in a year or three, so we just treat them as disposable.

Told the Rambling son to check which ones out along the driveway now were the brightest about 10PM (it's only dark from like 10-4, it's like we live in Fairbanks) last night, so we could replace the dimmest ones. He reported one of them was completely dark, but that was because we never pulled the tag. He did so, and it went from the darkest to the brightest.

This is a throwaway topic to me, legal pot has proven to be more of a DUI booster with hardly any rise in even minor crimes (I expected more petty vandalism and the like, but thus far, have been incorrect, or as I like to say, early).

However, President Trump handing it off to the states (which is correct if you read the Constitution as I do) is a huge win for those of us who believe in tiny government and only worrying about the big things (defending the country, lowering taxes, and eliminating needless regulations).

Something left mostly unsaid is how the Republican party under Trump, and even in the last year or two under Obama, has moved well to the left on social issues, which is one reason the Dems are having such a tough time cementing a platform. Even those on the right, such as a Mike Pence, don't dislike gays, or even care about what they do among consenting adults in their home. There may be a small disconnect on using the words "married" or "civil union" or "legal union," but it's a minor quibble.

The bible ain't the law. To those who do not worship or do not believe, it ain't no more meaningful than Aesop's Fables or Mother Goose. Those looking to make the government a nanny state don't seem to understand how unsuccessful the nanny state has been.

Woodruff will start SUN. Not sure if it will be a one start and down situation or not. Brandon has also pitched very well in AAA, a 2.10 ERA in 6 starts is excellent, and even moreso in Colorado Springs.

If it is a one start and out scenario, might well see Choi out replaced by Woodruff, and then Thames replace Woodruff.

If not, one would assume Williams or Barnes will head out, as they have this year's option available to use as often as needed.

Why?

To make their legacy look less embarrassingly bad. The Iran deal was never about limiting Iran's access to nukes. All about a fictional "agreement" that we never would have known was complete fiction had Hillary won.
