(6/30/2018 11:10:00 PM) - Al

Ersan signs a 3y deal with the Bucks.

A year longer than I would have preferred, but so be it. That's the price of adding quality, in demand players.

Ersan and Joe Harris would have been my top 2 adds in the whole league, so Ersan alone is a nice win.

6/30/2018 11:10:00 PM

(6/30/2018 11:00:00 PM) - Al

A wise man said a couple weeks ago it was far from coincidental that the old media suddenly became very unhappy about kids being held even though it had been going on for the better part of a decade.

Turns out, that wise man was right

6/30/2018 11:00:00 PM

(6/30/2018 10:56:00 PM) - Al

Jorge Lopez pitched 2 meaningless innings tonight on AAA, so he will not be up. Houser can return only if a player is DL'd.

6/30/2018 10:56:00 PM

(6/30/2018 09:00:00 PM) - Al

That's funny, I've been told by the elite left us rubes want to abolish ICE and just let everyone go if you're caught breaking the law.

In their rush to disagree with the president, they've forgotten they are disagreeing with the public.

Let us hope and pray they go into NOV insisting ICE sucks ands illegals should be heralded as heroes.

6/30/2018 09:00:00 PM

(6/30/2018 08:54:00 PM) - Al

Interesting notes.

We forget, when Braun/Cain/Yelich are out, your first thought is offense, as well it should be, but Thames is, at best, an a mediocre defender. Far from a routine fly ball, but it wasn't a double either.

Braun being back being Yelich tells me Christian should probably take a week and be DL'd. They could use an OF and a reliever...heck, maybe a reliever tomorrow and then an OF MON.

Hey, I've hurt my back numerous times. It's hardly ever better in a few days.

6/30/2018 08:54:00 PM

(6/30/2018 08:32:00 PM) - Al

The irony is, if true, the bombs and missiles may already be in the air.

It's almost as if the left would rather have nuclear war than peace under President Trump.

6/30/2018 08:32:00 PM

(6/30/2018 07:15:00 PM) - Al

Zagurski sure deserved a better fate. He struck Votto out twice, but did not get any calls. Thames got turned around on a fly ball to the warning track. After an intentional walk, the next batter hit a soft grounder...but in the 5/6 hole. Darn shame, he was throwing 94-96 on and just off the corners.

6/30/2018 07:15:00 PM

(6/30/2018 05:49:00 PM) - Al

Santana and Phillips both in the AAA starting lineup tonight.

6/30/2018 05:49:00 PM

(6/30/2018 04:30:00 PM) - Al

President Trump makes everything an event.

There are fantasy leagues and pools wondering and betting who the justice will be. And to think how close we came to having a complete grump as POTUS.

6/30/2018 04:30:00 PM

(6/30/2018 02:39:00 PM) - Al

Hamels is said to be on the move, but I was fooled by a fake Rosenthal account in my rush to get it posted.

6/30/2018 02:39:00 PM

(6/30/2018 01:56:00 PM) - Al

You side with the criminal all you want when they refuse to put their hands up or get down on the ground. And think it's "mean" when the officer tackles some thug without first putting pillows and bubble wrap on the ground.

The hell with them.

I choose to stand with law enforcement

6/30/2018 01:56:00 PM

(6/30/2018 10:12:00 AM) - Al

Slept in today. Grabbed phone to look at news.

88 degrees. Feels like 99.

At 9:30am.

Good night.

6/30/2018 10:12:00 AM

(6/30/2018 09:00:00 AM) - Al

Math is a bit of a challenge when you feel the need to lie nonstop.

Speaking of lies and math not working out, how'd that Obamacare saving ya $2500 a year work out?

I'm not saying he lied and had no idea...he said those words all by himself.

6/30/2018 09:00:00 AM

(6/30/2018 07:00:00 AM) - Al

Why do we say fake news?

Because they lie. A lot.

6/30/2018 07:00:00 AM

(6/30/2018 03:30:00 AM) - Al

Also in the news, Max Walters is stunned to hear that talking badly about a certain group sometimes leads to others talking badly about you.

Shocker.

6/30/2018 03:30:00 AM

(6/30/2018 01:30:00 AM) - Al

Because that's exactly what the left thinks.

6/30/2018 01:30:00 AM

(6/30/2018 12:00:00 AM) - Al

I defended Hope Solo for years, because, well, she looks like Hope Solo.

Since her time on the soccer field is done, her musings and statements leave a lot to be desired.

She's like one of those gals your friend is dating, and someone says, "She sure is pretty," and you can only reply, "She has to be."

(6/29/2018 10:30:00 PM) - Al

I do not claim to understand the details of the NBA salary cap, but reading tonight that Jabari Parker's $4.3M qualifying offer results in a $20.9M "hold" on next year's cap is mind boggling, and beyond mathematics.

6/29/2018 10:30:00 PM

(6/29/2018 08:11:00 PM) - Al

Santana and Phillips both in the lineup tonight in Round Rock, TX; so it does not look like a move before tomorrow's game was expected.

With Braun out of tonight's game, in the intense heat, we'll see if that changes.

6/29/2018 08:11:00 PM

(6/29/2018 07:08:00 PM) - Al

Brewers to "strongly" pursue DeGrom in the coming weeks.--email from High Heat 19

Bonus info from friend of Ramblings HH19.

6/29/2018 07:08:00 PM

(6/29/2018 06:17:00 PM) - Al

So did Republicans.

As Bill Bennett said yesterday on Outnumbered, "This president moves at a different pace than previous officeholders."

The irony is, while the old media is trying to lie about something from 2 days before, the president is 3 topics past that.

6/29/2018 06:17:00 PM

(6/29/2018 06:09:00 PM) - Al

Yelich's back is a mystery and a conundrum.

So is mine, and yours. It's just no one gives a damn about ours.

6/29/2018 06:09:00 PM

(6/29/2018 03:00:00 PM) - Al

Amen.

As I have said on many occasions, the president should walk right over to those scumbags and tell them he will never, ever answer a damn thing they ask if they choose to yell at him as he tries to get on a helicopter or plane.

The hell with them.

6/29/2018 03:00:00 PM

(6/29/2018 01:51:00 PM) - Al

An hour long celebration of capitalism, tax cuts, and a booming economy in place of Outnumbered today.

Not a single Democrat voted for them. Not one. Every single one decided you and me would be better off with less money in out pocket, and more in the government coffers.

6/29/2018 01:51:00 PM

(6/29/2018 01:46:00 PM) - Al

Fake news knows no limit.

Nothing they hate more than being called on it.

6/29/2018 01:46:00 PM

(6/29/2018 01:00:00 PM) - Al

They were too busy being self important attention whores to actually notice the big picture.

There's nothing wrong with being an independent, who votes somewhat mindlessly, jumping from party to party, race to race, like a child in a room of new toys.

Those of us that, you know, believe in something and work to see it happen say hi.

6/29/2018 01:00:00 PM

(6/29/2018 11:00:00 AM) - Al

I admit, this almost brought a tear to my eye.

That paragraph is some of the best work TRU has ever put forth also. They needed a few more things like that from the heart over the past...sigh...30 years.

I was a Toys R Us kid for 7 years, and they took me from a PT storeroom guy who sucked at building bikes (I was, and remain living proof, that sometimes you get promoted because you weren't any good at your job) to management, from Eau Claire to the Twin Cities.

I met the greatest woman in the world there.

{And, coincidentally, that's also where I met the Rambling wife.*}

It's a shame it's gone, but they can't take away the memories.

*Proof I will sell out any poignant moment for a cheap laugh. Hey, I ain't working on a cure for cancer in the attic. This is all I got.

6/29/2018 11:00:00 AM

(6/29/2018 08:30:00 AM) - Al

I've heard this several times over the past few years. At some point, there was a long discussion in the comments asking what position JFK had taken 50+ years ago that fit in with today's Democrat party.

About 250 comments in, someone had written, "Well, he did cheat on his wife."

Game, set, and match. Well played.

6/29/2018 08:30:00 AM

(6/29/2018 07:00:00 AM) - Al

CNN lets the lefty justice have it, even though they think they complimented her.

(6/29/2018 02:00:00 AM) - Al

Yesterday, the Rambling son went to his new workplace to type his needed days off into the scheduling computer (I'm so old, back in my day, we used a pen and scratch paper, but hence, I digress). He had taken my car, and called to ask if I wanted him to fill it with gas. I had not turned on my ringer yet, so I did not answer. He filled it up anyway (don't get too excited, he has his own credit card on our account).

When he returned home, I told him in the future, that question never needed to be asked...just fill it up.

6/29/2018 02:00:00 AM

(6/29/2018 01:00:00 AM) - Al

I believe I saw that President Trump is the first president in a while to personalize autographs, as Obama and others would just scribble their name (or use a stamp) on thank you type photos and memorabilia.

(6/28/2018 10:05:00 PM) - Al

Yelich does not seem overly concerned about his back, hopes it's just a day.

6/28/2018 10:05:00 PM

(6/28/2018 08:13:00 PM) - Al

Cole Hamels may be on the move soon, per Morosi.

6/28/2018 08:13:00 PM

(6/28/2018 07:37:00 PM) - Al

Billy Hamilton as a trade target, as a late inning PR and defensive replacement, continues to fascinate me. He's one of the few players in the game that has actual value with a .280 OBP.

6/28/2018 07:37:00 PM

(6/28/2018 06:42:00 PM) - Al

When you can't tell the parody account from the real thing...

6/28/2018 06:42:00 PM

(6/28/2018 05:27:00 PM) - Al

The old media just doesn't get it...there's nothing legal immigrants to the USA hate more than illegal immigration.

The old media's insistence on acting as if all immigrants are the same is biased and why they are fake news.

(6/28/2018 04:45:00 PM) - Al

Friend of Ramblings High Heat 19 checks in with end of the month rumors and gossip.

---The Brewers do not want to part with Hiura. And definitely do not want to part with Peralta. The Brewers liken Hiura to a Yelich/Cain type player except in the form at second base. Hiura would only be sent to the Mets for DeGrom or Syndergaard and no one else. Peralta is pretty much untouchable at this point.

---Brewers focus is on Happ and/or Hamels. Brewers feel that Machado could be had and that it doesn't include Hiura or Peralta.

---Brewers are also looking at middle infield help. Asdrubal Cabera, Jed Lowrie, and Brandon Crawford if the Giants sell have been discussed.

---Brewers brass had a little bit of confrontation with Lucroy when he left. So don't look for a Brewers/Lucroy reunion.

---Brewers would love Realmuto if they can pull off a trade that does not involve Hiura or Peralta.

---Also, Arcia, Santana, Woodruff and Houser are available from the Major League roster

---Brewers are especially open to trading Burnes, Ray, Phillips, Erceg, Nottingham and Ortiz.

---The Brewers will make at least 1 big acquisition before July 31st.
High Heat 19

Thanks again to HH19 for sharing these with Ramblings.
Only name that surprises me is Burnes, and maybe Phillips a bit...though as much as I like Brett, I don't see him as a building block. I would add Lopez to the "could be had" group, as both he and Houser have shown potential, but are out of options. Houser has outperformed him as well.

(6/28/2018 03:12:00 PM) - Al

I'm telling you, I'm not sure how anyone could look at the situation and see any bias.

(6/28/2018 03:00:00 PM) - Al

We don't have a diversity problem!

Classic.

(6/28/2018 12:38:00 PM) - Al

The Brewers have gone from having 3 more wins "than expected" based on their run differential a couple weeks ago to being right on...having 54 more runs scored than allowed means they should have 46 wins...which they do.

And yes, the Cubs have a far better run differential. Not even close.

6/28/2018 12:38:00 PM

(6/28/2018 12:32:00 PM) - Al

The TSA reports Friday may be the busiest US airline travel day of all time. If not, it will be close.

That, my friends, is the result of what some people call "crumbs."

I was surprised to hear that because July 4th is next WED, which means one would assume the long weekends will be spread out in both directions. However, for whatever reason, the booming economy has led to tomorrow being huge.

I admit, I think it's hilarious that liberals follow her, comment on her posts, and basically complain about the fact she's using her beauty to sell her 2nd Amendment beliefs and, probably, make a pretty good living...seem to fail to realize that by following her and commenting, are making her Twitter account far, far more valuable.

Of course, I just follow her for the articles.

6/28/2018 11:30:00 AM

(6/28/2018 09:30:00 AM) - Al

I met the Rambling wife at TRU, and spent 7 years there, starting as a part time storeroom guy and eventually moving into management. They were a poorly run company then (if you have any doubt, consider how easily I moved up), and after ignoring the advice they paid for, will soon cease to exist. I met some great people there and still often think back to those years, which were some of the best of my life.

The Rambling wife and I had our first date at Chi Chi's, which has been gone for decades. We just recently bought our first vehicle ever that was not a Saturn, of which we still have 2 on the road. It's not quite as obvious as how every product mentioned on Seinfeld either went out of business or is now just a shadow of what it once was...but it ain't a pretty sight.

(6/27/2018 11:00:00 PM) - Al

If only there was something they could have done to avoid this backlash.

Carry on.

6/27/2018 11:00:00 PM

(6/27/2018 09:07:00 PM) - Al

Trade for deGrom?

No way they'd give that package, though with a couple minor changes, you could come up with a similar one that is not as painful, though not as close to the majors. Also, Peralta has moved ahead of Burnes, to be blunt.

Peralta and Hiura, I would be shocked to see included.

6/27/2018 09:07:00 PM

(6/27/2018 08:00:00 PM) - Al

It's easy to change your mind when you don't really believe in anything.

By the way, it's a good thing Hank Reid changed the rules on that filibuster, or President Trump would have to choose a moderate justice.

And then I laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed.

6/27/2018 08:00:00 PM

(6/27/2018 06:42:00 PM) - Al

I saw his name a day or two ago and wondered about a fit in MIL.

I cooled down a bit when I saw he has not played SS. In fact, he's pretty much limited to 2B/3B/LF, which for the Brewers, isn't even that versatile. I also hope this does not mean they are worried about Shaw long term. That said, he does hit LHP well, so he would not require a platoon partner.

6/27/2018 06:42:00 PM

(6/27/2018 06:34:00 PM) - Al

Houser sent to minors. Woodruff just pitched today for several innings, so Lopez would be a good bet.

6/27/2018 06:34:00 PM

(6/27/2018 06:18:00 PM) - Al

I feel the president will choose a woman or a black man (or, a black woman). However, should he choose to go with a boring white fella, Senator Mike Lee has been a defender of freedoms and the Constitution for as long as he has been on the planet. He would be my choice.

6/27/2018 06:18:00 PM

(6/27/2018 06:00:00 PM) - Al

This has been rumored, right down to the timing (summer of 2018) since the election. Why are they surprised?

Classy

6/27/2018 06:00:00 PM

(6/27/2018 05:14:00 PM) - Al

A wise man predicted this. It also coincides with the rise in the president's approval rating.

Keep it up, please.

6/27/2018 05:14:00 PM

(6/27/2018 04:30:00 PM) - Al

This is because conservatives are more patriotic than liberals.

If you doubt it, ask a liberal. They brag about it.

6/27/2018 04:30:00 PM

(6/27/2018 04:24:00 PM) - Al

Have to see if Houser survives another 2 inning outing, this time without a day off upcoming. He has pitched very well, so he might.

6/27/2018 04:24:00 PM

(6/27/2018 03:30:00 PM) - Al

This is just like the "they don't want to confiscate your guns!"

Except, of course, for those that do.

6/27/2018 03:30:00 PM

(6/27/2018 02:00:00 PM) - Al

Heh.

Like being named Adolf. One day it was fine, and then, suddenly, you had to shave your mustache and go by Adi.

6/27/2018 02:00:00 PM

(6/27/2018 01:00:00 PM) - Al

They've done it to themselves.

Move a little further left, boys.

6/27/2018 01:00:00 PM

(6/27/2018 12:41:00 PM) - Al

I should mention the Crew released Kyle Wren yesterday so he could find a better opportunity. This is often done when a player has a contract awaiting them in Japan or in another foreign land, but we have not heard that in Wren's case, nor does he fit the usual slugging profile that is usually sought after overseas.

I have said on a few occasions I like Wren as a potential cheap reserve, and Nate Orf as well, though Wren lacks Orf's ceiling and versatility. Simply put, Wren was behind many other OF's in the system, not only at AAA, but as for being added to the 40 man as well, he was probably behind several AA OF's in that regard.

Wren also lacked the versatility so beloved by Stearns and Counsell, as not only is he naturally hindered by his lefthandedness; his arm is weak, so he is all but unplayable in RF. A singles hitter that can only play LF/CF, despite being fast and having a good eye, is limited.

6/27/2018 12:41:00 PM

(6/27/2018 12:00:00 PM) - Al

The cries of outrage were always fiction to me.

Always blame the other side for doing what you do best.

I believe it failed to mention that the Republican House would have been massacred by a Bernie supporter had not Scalise had armed security to blow them away, as good guys with guns are trained to do to evil...much to the left's disgust.

(6/27/2018 10:50:00 AM) - Al

Why you are hearing a lot of made up jibber jabber about the SCOTUS decision not to force workers to join a union...it costs them money.

Most estimates have only about half of WI teachers choosing to pay union dues now that it's voluntary, as I've seen 40-60% cited regularly.

6/27/2018 10:50:00 AM

(6/27/2018 10:03:00 AM) - Al

Broxton gets the start versus the southpaw, but will play CF, with Yelich in RF.

Given they would normally just have Perez play in the OF, except for the Shaw injury, I have to wonder if Keon was brought up solely for today's matchup.

If so, his stay may be very brief, as RHP's are scheduled to start all 4 games for the Reds.

6/27/2018 10:03:00 AM

(6/27/2018 09:30:00 AM) - Al

To be fair, to call this group "men" is probably a bit of a stretch, to say the least.

(6/27/2018 08:00:00 AM) - Al

It used to be racist to question the president or one of his failed policies.

Unexpectedly, it has become patriotic to do so.

What changed? Well, there's an R in front of his name...

6/27/2018 08:00:00 AM

(6/27/2018 06:30:00 AM) - Al

About time someone mentions Ellison's anti Jewish tendencies.

6/27/2018 06:30:00 AM

(6/27/2018 03:30:00 AM) - Al

That's a shame.

6/27/2018 03:30:00 AM

(6/27/2018 02:00:00 AM) - Al

With luck, someday, we conservatives will be as polite and civil as the left.

And please, please, let's hope they keep this up. This plays as well in Peoria as Max Waters kicking puppies. Thank goodness for her ignorance. She called for the Rodney King riots too, you know.

Dems are speaking out against this it looks so bad. I beg them to continue. Walters lives in liberal la la land, she's even more out of touch with us deplorable rubes than most.

(6/26/2018 09:24:00 PM) - Al

Much to the chagrin of the "defense first" brigade, Brad Miller started his first game at SS for the Crew tonight.

1 for 2 with a pair of walks. Caught a pop up. No ground balls, no force outs at 2B, no throws to 1B.

Remember what Davey Johnson always said...lots of games, they just get a couple routine plays. But they ALWAYS get 3 or 4 plate appearances.

Cain placed on DL, Broxton called up.

This is about the 3rd time I would have expected Phillips, the first 2 over Choi. Perhaps, with Braun and Thames expected to get more time in the OF mix, they wanted Keon to be a defensive replacement...though Phillips is a good defender as well.

No, I am not sure when this took place, or if Keon will be in town for the game.

EDIT: Keon expected in during game.

EDIT 2: Cain got extensive treatment yesterday and today, unable to go tonight. That seemed to be some sort of deal made by he and Counsell.

Saladino will be going on rehab soon, will be ready to return about a week later, per Counsell. Brad Martin (or anyone else) probably has that long to get hot.

(6/26/2018 02:15:00 PM) - Al

--Cain expected back in the lineup tonight. Has been receiving treatment regularly, missed an appearance this AM due to said treatment.

--One person said Santana is back in MIL, which would probably mean Shaw will be DL'd.

--If Shaw is out, will we see Aguilar at 3B?

--Dan Plesac said this morning on MLBN that he think Manny Machado will be traded to the Brewers. That's one of those things that will not die down until Machado is dealt elsewhere (or signs an extension with the O's).

I would hate to deal for Manny unless the Crew has all but assured themselves of a playoff berth.

How much could Machado help MIL realistically?

Arcia forecast rest of 2018----.291/.363, 33 simple runs created, +6 defense, 39 runs
Manny forecast rest of 2018--.349/.526, 57 simple runs created, (10) defense, 47 runs

I had no idea Machado had such trouble in the field at SS using advanced metrics, as he was all world at 3B. He may improve slightly with more experience, and playing in meaningful games, but, -10 runs in half a season is awful. Using the simple numbers above, Machado is worth a win in just the 80 or so games the Crew have left, a testament of his astounding offense. However, giving up 10 runs in the field in half a season makes his value minimal, to say the least.

Here's the irony:

Five minutes ago, Trump is a meanie! I can't believe he gets away with it!

Now, we're gonna make Trump look like a choir boy. Double down on the bad behavior!

It's easy to change your mind when you don't believe in anything. The difference, of course, is at a personal level...President Trump is a fighter and a winner. He's been a top level businessman for decades, and despite being an average looking guy, has married nothing but beautiful, intelligent women. As Scott Adams has made famous, his brilliance is off the charts.

Those that are suddenly doing the same thing on the left just wanna figure out a way to get more of your tax money so they can spend it on magic beans that their voters might like.

This is probably the best explanation I've seen. Even moreso, the left is angry BECAUSE of the good times.

The economic satisfaction is at record levels, and nothing upsets the left more. Chaos, hard times; that is their treasure chest. Therefore, they are very, very unhappy. Bernie Sanders campaigned, and campaigned hard mind you, that we should only have one deoderant, because anything else is, you know, comfortable and nice.

Well, he singlehandedly saved Obamacare after saying 53 times while running in 2016 we needed to get rid of it. He clumsily said we needed a bipartisan solution, while apparently forgetting he was in the Senate and could have put together a bipartisan plan at any time

This is the most Hollywood thing ever.

Back when I worked at the toy store in Eau Claire, we had a young man who had to work SAT during the the day once every year, because he did this exact same thing, it was called like 24 hours of fasting. They'd get a group of kids together, feed them a big meal at 6PM, and then have them sleep in, go to church in the morning, and then only drink water, coffee, and juice until 6PM SUN night.

For those of us that do not eat breakfast anyway, it was basically like skipping a sandwich.

(6/24/2018 08:22:00 PM) - Al

I admit, I think President Trump either made a bad calculation, or he simply went with his family/advisors rather than his gut.

I simply would have said, "I sure hate seeing those kids separated from their parents. That said, most of them are unaccompanied, anywhere from 70-90%. And, damn it, if you break the law, you don't get to keep your kids. Them's the facts. I suggest if they want to keep their kids, they stay on the other side of the border."

The truth is, not only would it have blown the minds of the liberals, his base would have smiled, pumped their fist, and said, "That's my president."

6/24/2018 08:22:00 PM

(6/24/2018 07:30:00 PM) - Al

Trump has taken advantage of the fact the left just takes the opposite side. They have now come out against tax cuts, a booming economy, and peace in Korea; and for gangs, a violent dictator in Korea, and open borders.

Crazy like a fox. They have spent the last 2.5 years underestimating him, and being played over and over.

Her's hoping they continue thinking they got him all figured out. Because as of now, they really, really suck at it.

(6/24/2018 03:49:00 PM) - Al

If Shaw is DL'd, be interesting to see who they bring up...could be almost any position or another pitcher, as Counsell felt "short" enough to today to allow Chacin to go at least several batters what CC wanted to.

They did not send Houser down despite him getting 6 outs yesterday, which is either because he's been pitching good enough they wanted him to stay or because they did not have anyone to bring up. It may have been related to the Monday day off also.

I'd like to see Aaron Wilkerson added to the up and down club, as he may well end up as a swingman if he has a career in the majors. AW throws in that 88-91 range where he would be a change of pace from most starters, and then the hitters would have to kick it back up a notch for the relief corps.

I'll throw out another sleeper, Mike Zagurski, who is a 35 year old lefty reliever who has a 1ish ERA away from the altitude of Colorado Springs, and has also been very solid against LH hitters (36 outs vs. lefties, 21 by K).MZ is not on the 40, but with an open spot, they won't hesitate fill it if they think it will help them.

Counsell on Miller's role with team: "What we may ask him is to move around the field more regularly, on a daily basis. Whether it be in double switches or starting role. He is versatile; he's a very good athlete. He has done this before." CC said Miller would play some SS.--JS

Translation: He is a LH hitter that can't hit LHP. Hence, versus RHP, he'll probably be in there, especially if he is hitting the ball. Right now, the middle infield spots will be a bit of a 5 man weave, with Arcia, Miller, Perez, Villar, and Sogard. There will likely be games in which 2 guys start and 2 others finish. We might well see games in which Perez or Miller start, and in the 5th or 6th, will be taken out, since the team is up 4-1.

Go 2 for 3, you'll probably be back in there the next day. Go for 0-4, you probably won't. Hit like Aguilar, you'll be in there 6 days a week. Going with the hot hand is another way of looking at it.

Yep. Me too.

Thank goodness they have been so negative and lacking a plan.

As I have discussed may times, I have a 65+ year old woman friend on FB (I worked with her for years and never heard her raise her voice), who after the election admitted she filled out her entire ballot and then went back to vote for president, thinking about it several minutes, Finally, she said, she went with the person she thought would do a better job running the country, even though she personally disliked both major candidates.

She now proudly posts positive Trump info, while her kids chide her because they hate prosperity. Last time she said, "Why don't you quit reading if you don't like it?" They have not commented again that I have seen since.

Sometimes, you just gotta tell the bullies to go to hell.

6/23/2018 01:30:00 PM

(6/23/2018 01:19:00 PM) - Al

For those wondering, Santana has one option left. If he remains in the minors for 20 days total this season, he will not have any options left. This would limit his trade value, even moreso since he has struggled this year. However, if he spends 19 or fewer days optioned, he will retain that option.

Given the Brewers current state of contention, it's unlikely to be a high priority to save that option.

I'm sure there are plenty of clubs that would love to "buy low" on Santana and Arcia, both of whose value is probably about half what it was last offseason. I actually saw a trade proposal of Manny Machado for Arcia, Santana, and a prospect of note just a few days ago. That would have been ridiculous last NOV, as even Arcia for 3-4 months of Machado would have been an overpay. Suddenly, it makes sense, as Domingo and Orlando have each lost some value, though BAL is as unconcerned about this year's production as any team has ever been. And, the prospect (maybe a top 100 or 150 type) would likely be the most desired addition; but young, cheap players like Arcia and Santana would certainly be welcome in a rebuild.

A perfect scenario would be for DS to go down and rake in AAA, and return when an injury or need comes up, maybe in 10-14 days.

6/23/2018 01:19:00 PM

(6/23/2018 12:25:00 PM) - Al

Miller has played for several years in the majors, been DFA'd, and is now in MIL.

His first thought: Can we go down the slide?

Mine: Gee, he looks so young.

Reminds me of that old joke, you see an old guy walking down the street in your hometown, and then notice he graduated from high school...several years after you did.

6/23/2018 12:25:00 PM

(6/23/2018 12:11:00 PM) - Al

Santana sent to AAA to get some AB's. Brad Miller up, in the lineup at 2B today. I'm surprised Braun is not in the lineup today, nor did he PH last night. If 100%...or even 80%, he seemed like a better choice than Sogard, though Eric getting a base hit makes Counsell look like a genius.

I was right, just early.

Miller played only SS at AAA until last night, when he played 2B. If he has admitted to not being comfy at SS, one has to wonder if they will ask Villar about picking up some time there. To my knowledge, Villar has not played SS or 3B since he was made the everyday 2B, just a few games in CF late last season.

For the moment, I would expect Sogard or Perez to replace Miller late in the game for defense at 2B (if ahead, of course). Always kind of silly, we all know why they do it, but it's like defense doesn't cost a team runs until the 8th inning.

In a bit of irony, one would expect Arcia to perhaps go down for a couple weeks to try and get his offense going, but if JV or Miller or Perez is going to play SS...they might want to keep Orlando around to play the field in late game situations.

Nice of the AAA schedule to work out, putting Miller in Des Moines, allowing him to play last night, instead of catching a flight.

They need to say, "this is why we disagree and what we intend to do better." That, thus far, is completely lacking.

A better phrase would be, "Vote for us and feel better about yourself, and your future."

The fact that Donny, who has been in marketing his entire life, has no idea what to say to make anyone except far left Dems not want to vote for the president is very, very telling.

The fact Time, a news magazine, put a fictional story on the cover and is now defending it is, quite frankly, a dream come true for conservatives, the GOP, President Trump, and anyone associated with a Republican.

What's almost impossible to believe is just how self important they think they are, making the excuse that "it rings true."

Translation? "We knew it wasn't true. We ran it anyway."

Hillary came up with the term "fake news." Trump has perfected how to use it and how to excite his base by using it. And, perhaps most amazingly, those doing their best to keep the phrase from dying?

The old media themselves.

If I'm Dave Stearns, I claim Thompson and DFA him immediately. He is close to being able to sneak down to AAA due to his poor numbers this season. Braun is always a risk to be injured, Santana could be traded to a team willing to overlook his below average first 3 months of 2018, and while Perez is a nice, versatile piece; he's well subpar for a corner OF offensively.

I know not it's a nothing burger by the way the left has told the old media (hence, I repeat myself) to focus on this children of criminals being left alone at the border "story" that has been going on for a half decade at least and pretending it's news.

It's not a coincidence the focus shifted to the kids right after the IG report was released. They may not stand for anything, but they're not stupid.

From friend of Ramblings High Heat 19, rumors involving the Brewers at this early date.

--Brewers are currently exploring "ALL" pitching options which is nothing new.

--However, Tyson Ross is a target of interest as is Kyle Gibson of the Twins as they would be cheaper in the Brewers eyes.

--Brewers have interest in Jacob deGrom. More in deGrom than Noah Syndergaard at this moment with a close eye on Syndergaard's strained ligament in his finger.

--Brewers have discussed Manny Machado and would be open to sending Arcia as part of a package along with pitchers not named Peralta.

--Peralta will likely not be traded in any scenario as he is seen as a big component for September. Brewers will NOT offer anything big for Machado but all of the Brewers minor league outfielders are open to be traded.--High Heat 19

Thank you to HH19 for sharing this with us. I was just thinking the other day, before Freddy returned to start TUE, "I wonder if he might have success in a Josh Hader like role."

Imagine seeing Suter on your first PA, Peralta on your 2nd, and Hader on your 3rd. That would be a mighty tough adjustment.

Gibson is a very interesting name to me, as he has "underperformed" a bit, even his secondary stats seem far better than his ERA.

Brewers' rained out game from tonight will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader on SAT, 7/14, game one begins at 11:35 Central time.

The Pirates chose that day despite both teams having the day off SEP20 with the Brewers coming in for a 3 game weekend series SEP21-23, with no problems with playing 20+ days in a row.

They don't seem very good at this scheduling stuff.

(6/20/2018 08:44:00 PM) - Al

Adam is assuming all the SP's will "be bumped" a single day. With a MON day off, Peralta could be moved back all the way to next SAT. However, if he were to be optioned, he would have to stay 10 days. You can take it back to when he last pitched though, so if TUE counts, TUE/WED/THU/FRI/SAT/SUN/MON/TUE/WED/THU/FRI/SAT is 12, so even without the first TUE and last SAT, it's still 10. However, I cannot recall if that is the case or not.

I'm sure he will be optioned ASAP if that is the case. Time will tell. They could bring up a reliever or a position player...they could bring up Brad Miller as early as tomorrow, or, they could bring up any player in the organization, since they have an open spot on the 40 man, as they did with Nick Franklin earlier in the season.

The fact he hasn't predicted an election correctly since 2008 makes a lot more sense now that we've found out Nate Silver has trouble calculating a blankety blanking tip.

Nate, 10% is moving the decimal over one. Make an easy amount to work with. Double it. Round up, drop change. Done.

1. Example: {$42.76.}

2. Move decimal 4.276. Make into an easy amount {4.25}.

3. Double it  {8.50}.

4. Round up, dropping change {9.00}.

5. Many would "round this up" to $10, to be honest.

I tend to "round up" to an even amount, such as making the total $55 and then making the tip the difference, as that adds up immensely for the tipped employee.

Gee, I hope that wasn't "too much math and stuff" for ya. The key is...don't ever tip low enough so someone thinks, "That guy doesn't know how to tip." As an adult in the USA, that's just embarrassing.

I wondered this last night when I saw he pitched in relief, though I figured he was probably just getting in some innings because Davies or someone was stealing his start.

Burnes is not on the 40 man roster, and would not have to go on until after the 2019 season. Using him this year in the majors, even for a single pitch, means protecting one less prospect this offseason. That would have to be a very tough call for the braintrust, as it would be for Hiura, who is in the same circumstance, but after 2020.

6/19/2018 05:48:00 PM

(6/19/2018 05:33:00 PM) - Al

Take the two prospects that you, under no circumstances, would ever want your team to trade. Then, add 2-4 more good pieces to it and you might have a decent framework.--MLBTR chat on what it would take to acquire Syndergard from the Mets.

Peralta activated, Logan DFA'd.

That's a very small sample for Boone, especially when one looks at his velocity returning and his overall bad luck. Obviously, results matter, but as I have discussed before, when you have a .414 BAbip, it's impossible to have success.

Logan will almost certainly revert back to form, or close to form, once he ends up elsewhere, barring some sort of lingering injury. I suppose he could agree to go to AAA, but I assume there's half a dozen teams already contacting his agent, so that would seem unlikely.

I am wondering how much this move had to do with opening a 40 man spot, if any.

Hawks' players will be linked to MIL because of the coaching staff. Bazemore was highly sought after by the Bucks when he was a free agent as well.

I like Schroder as well, but he is very overpaid and he is a Jennings' type, very hot and cold.

Bazemore is basically Khris Middleton light, and the Bucks already have KM, so it'd be a strange marriage.

I told the Rambling son I'd change the oil in "his car" and check on getting the AC repaired for him (you realize, I did not bother even checking it for the past 5 years). I only drove 1400 miles in the last 7.5 months, but looking online, all the recommendations say to change the oil once every 12 months regardless of miles (for instance, if it's a classic car), or every 6 months if you live in a cold climate.

Or, if you use synthetic, you can get away with only once a year.

News some of you can probably use.

(6/18/2018 10:00:00 PM) - Al

Even though it is mostly luck, and luck should not "even out" so to speak...it tends to do just that. Teams that have a great won loss record in one run games in the first half rarely repeat that in the second half.

Those complaining about losing 10-9 and 1-0 on consecutive days (well, they should have won at least one of them!) have already completely forgotten about winning 2-0 and 1-0 against one of the best offensive teams in MLB last week (well, they easily could have lost BOTH of them...it's just math).

6/18/2018 10:00:00 PM

(6/18/2018 09:31:00 PM) - Al

This is an overly simple take, but Counsell is probably trying to rally some emotion among the rest of his position player group. To be honest, they have been good, but Thames and Aguilar have been better for the money.

Of course, let's be honest here...if a pitcher can shut down Cain and Yelich, they do have a pretty good chance of getting the rest of the order out too. This is the case with any team. That's why teams often pick a player they "do not let him beat you."

The prize of the rental reliever market about to go to the Nats, as they have made a deal for Herrera. This will help set the market for other bullpen help as well as well.

The haul is 3 players: A OF who ranks as a "45" prospect, who would be similar to Troy Stokes or Jake Greenwood in the MIL system, and 2 unranked prospects, at lest on the MLB.com top 30 list. Certainly a lot for 100 games (probably about 40 IP for Herrera), but not cost prohibitive.

BUMPED: Travis has an injured wrist and was scratched from the original starting lineup, per TV team.

On FRI, I called to add the Rambling son to our policy.

Today, I called to add the new Rambling wife's vehicle to our policy. This is why I hate people so.

It's just inconceivable to me that these companies insist on charging more for inexperienced drivers and new SUV's.--sarcasm

{I'm a capitalist, I get it.}

For those curious, adding the boy just about doubled our premium. Adding the vehicle, $50 more a month.

Rambling wife and Al, 2 cars--about $70 a month
Wife, Al, and boy--about $138 a month (would have been $149 w/o good student discount, thank you wife's genetic intelligence)
New vehicle and 2 old cars--about $190 a month

We weren't all that unhappy, as I distinctly recall when one of my department managers added her 16 year old son, their policy went up $2000 for the year. This was about 2006. Ours went up about $1440 adding the son and another vehicle. Comparatively, we were expecting more.

The more far lefties that visit us rubes and realize we're not all racist idiots, the worse it is for the GOP.

Surprised illness doesn't happen more with those pitchers brought up from the minors, they get little sleep, travel commercial early in the AM, eat strange food, get introduced to new germs on plane, taxis, clubhouse, and so on. And when it's 100 degrees, any minor problems are made a lot worse.

I've been saying this for 2 years, and considering they leak everything the minute they find it, and thus far, have nothing, and Strok texted his girlfriend "there is nothing there," I remain uncertain what folks think is going to suddenly be found. It was reported days after the election it was simply a diversionary tactic by the left, and we have no proof that it wasn't.

Occam's razor.

They thought they would win and shred all the emails, the warrants, and the fibs. They didn't.

I can only continue to say the same thing so many times until the left's "end of the world as we know it," "well maybe it happened like this" goes from an eye roll to the boy crying wolf.

I think a more interesting question is, will they choose to add controllable players like Chris Archer? Or FA to be SP's like JA Happ.

Adam wonders if Lopez will go down after throwing 2 frames today.

He may, but they do have an 8 man bullpen. When Peralta comes up, if they go down to a 7 man pen, they may be more aggressive. Wilkerson just pitched, while Woodruff has not been down long enough. That said, Houser, Asher, and Diplan are all still on the 40 and would be thrilled to fly into MIL.

ADDED: Houser started a game and went 5 innings MON, so I assume he would be the guy.

Boone Logan pitched well today, as a bloop hit, walk that missed by a fraction of an inch from an inconsistent home plate arbiter, and a soft ground ball to 3B is hardly poor pitching.

Being results oriented is fine, though you will embarrass yourself quite often, as one has to understand you're going to be up and down an awful lot, as line drives are often caught while ground balls sneak through. Just the way it is.

Found this link while looking for other things...written in 1959, on how to improve your dairy herd. I was skimming it, and stopped when I saw that testing your cows cost 45 cents a head...that seemed really inexpensive, and that's when I noticed the date.

Of course they did.

IL is broke, and will almost certainly have to beg the feds for cash. If they get it, it may well be the beginning of another American civil war.

If one penny of our tax dollars is used to bail out the idiot spending of shortsighted liberal states, I might just lead the pack with a pitchfork in one hand and a flaming stick in the other.

Amen.

Notice how Graham is now one of Trump's biggest allies, and McCain would say Trump had no clue about AIDS if he cured cancer. One is looking at the upcoming elections, one is just trying to be a pain.

Sadly, much of that would appear to be McCain's unfortunate imminent demise causing him not to give a rat's ass about the future. Right now, the closest comparison I can make is a pissy ex wife who wants her husband's baseball card collection just because she knows he loves it.

McCain found out he was dying, and immediately hired a ghost writer to pen his autobiography. He won't resign, but says he cannot travel to DC to vote...despite flying to and from treatment and his home in AZ often.

Next TUE, the Crew will likely activate Peralta to be the 5th SP until he struggles a time or two (or until Davies returns healthy). I'm going to once again predict Santana goes down to get some AB's (unless Villar is not healthy at that time).

Of coursed, that way I wasn't wrong, I was just early.

Surprised to see Brad Miller only used as a PH last night in AAA. I thought he would play SS most days, and DH a couple days a week. He does not seem to be on a fast track to MIL.

Nice to see Arcia get a couple hits last night. He's still very young, and he has holes in his swing. Scouts see that, pitchers and pitching coaches take advantage of that. If you swing at bad pitches, you will rarely see good pitches. He's still years from peaking.

Why the Dems (and John McCain) are so desperate to paint the meeting as a failure. The public, overwhelmingly sees a sit down between the madman and the US president as positive.

Obama had 8 years and never even tried, which is especially bothersome considering the possible risk to Hawaii and Alaska

Over on other side of town. Wife suggests we pick up KFC for supper. Call son and ask him what he thinks. He says that would be ok, but he prefers Lee's, which is only a couple miles from our house. I ask him, well you would eat KFC if we got it?

"I guess."

30 days?

Well, to be fair, Rand Paul is not only a Republican, but a very conservative one.

Quick, if the same assault would take place versus Obama, even today, the sentence would be closer to 30 years...right?

I have a former acquaintance who is accused of telling friends of a house to burglarize. Since the "friends" used a weapon of some sort to hit the resident on the head, this person is being charged with armed robbery, which carries a sentence of 10-20 years. They have been offered 10 years if they plead guilty. Remember, there is no question, from what I can tell at least, that my friend DID NOT actually hit or hurt anyone.

The guy physically assaulted a sitting US senator, breaking ribs. 30 days.

I've only seen heavily edited 2-3 minute versions, but it's wonderful to see everyone on the Republican side of the aisle literally jumping up and down at the President Trump impromptu presser this AM. Classic, vintage Trump, calling out CNN, Comey, and everyone else that should be and deserves to be laughed at and scorned.

If you'll recall, just a short while back, everyone said that he should never do that, and he should never be on Twitter. They were wrong, and they're quickly admitting it. Seeing someone on the GOP side fight back was once so scary, and now, after 16 months of Trump, is being roundly cheered.

Peralta goes 3 effective innings and is pulled early. He would certainly look to be the odds on favorite to get the start TUE.

6/14/2018 10:05:00 PM

(6/14/2018 08:39:00 PM) - Al

Nothing to see here. Carry on. As Maria Bartiromo said this morning, it's become very apparent that "Russia" was just a diversion to try and move attention away from the actual crime and misdoings.

{Imagine that.}

She added, "at least what we've seen so far" to maintain credibility with the half dozen folks still expecting Mueller to find a video of President Trump in overalls with a screwdriver in his hand, fiddling with voting machines in MI and WI, holding a Russian instruction book, giggling like a schoolgirl.

As for this nugget, a Dem on TV tonight actually said "It wasn't missing. It was edited, because it was unimportant.  When the host said how a FBI agent saying Trump would never win because the FBI would stop it, the reply was, "One FBI agent can't get a search warrant. One can't effect an election either."

Peralta starting tonight as well, if Davies is not ready, one would expect Freddy may well get the start next TUE when a 5th SP is needed.

(6/14/2018 03:17:00 PM) - Al

I, of course, am unsure if Stearns has any interest in any of the Padres' relievers (though, I'm sure DS is doing "due diligence" on every team and every reliever that could improve his team).

That said, if he does, the Pads may well have some interest in Santana or Phillips. While the Crew may not want to move either, one must admit, OF is where MIL has the most depth, and where SD is the weakest.

I'm so old, I remember when this was not a controversial statement.

6/14/2018 02:00:00 PM

(6/14/2018 01:00:00 PM) - Al

I would agree 100%.

Relievers are far cheaper than SP's on the trade market.

You can have 8-10 quality relievers, you can't really have more than 5 starters.

Jeffress is, to be blunt, not going to keep up anywhere near his current pace.

Hader has never pitched a full season of relief in his life.

Knebel, while solid, is nothing compared to his domination last season.

Barnes and Williams, both young and solid, have had outings where they have been one pitch pitchers, because they can't get their breaking ball close enough to the plate to generate swings and misses. I now that's like saying my brilliant  supermodel girlfriend is only a mediocre cook, but you know what I mean.

Unexpectedly.

Damn it, the world is going to hell in a handbasket, if only the results would just match the left's fictional concerns.

If Obama would have brokered a peace deal with North Korea and had had a booming economy, they would have got rid of that rule and he'd be in his 3rd term.

(6/14/2018 07:36:00 AM) - Al

I knew what was going to happen. He's (President Trump) going to play hardball and they're going to come back to the table. He understands how to do these things.

When I see these pundits say, "Oh, I've been dealing with this for 30 years," hey, for 30 years, you couldn't even get in a room with the guy to have a meeting.

The other side is almost upset we're not in a nuclear war because it means that President Trump was effective, but guess what, what they've been doing for 60 years, since the end of that war, totally ineffective. Someone else comes in, brings a different approach, a business like approach, guess what? More progress in 16 months than they've had in 60 years, yet, they continue to knock it. It was textbook Trump.--Donald Trump Jr.

Let me sum up the past year plus on North Korea policy from the left:

--We're too scared to even pretend to do anything but shudder at the mere mention of a nutty dictator.

--What is President Trump doing? He's going to make him mad.

--We need to do something, but I have no idea what, except it should not be what President Trump is doing.

--We know what will happen at this meeting. Nothing.

--Well, I can't believe we gave up so much in this agreement. Those military exercises that we've never brought up or ever mentioned before are integral to the readiness of the armed forces that we nickel and dime and disrespect every chance we get, because our voters despise them.

I forget who said it, but the lack of a congratulatory statement on North Korea from any of the living presidents pretty much tells you all you need to know. Jealousy is a tough way to live your life.

6/14/2018 07:36:00 AM

(6/14/2018 07:10:00 AM) - Al

Al,

I just finished listening to the "Win Bigly" and I had a couple of comments.

The book was not what I thought it would be about. It was all about the power of persuasion which now that I have finished it, it makes me sit here in awe of Trump and his processes. After Scott described examples of mass persuasion and how Trump uses them, I can't look at anything he does or says now any other way. He has a mastery of the art. The other world leaders don't stand a chance when in the court of public opinion. They have teams of advisers and Trump just goes off the cuff with his gut (amazing how many times he nails it). Like you commented the other day, Trump talks to everyone with basic words (Scott talked about this too in the book). The perfect example is this morning when he said the following:
George S: Did you talk about pulling troops out? U.S. troops out of South Korea.
Trump: We didn’t discuss that, no. But we’re not gonna play the war games. You know, I wanted to stop the war games, I thought they were very provocative. But I also think they’re very expensive. We’re running the country properly, I think they’re very, very expensive. To do it, we have to fly planes in from Guam -- that’s six and a half hours away. Big bombers and everything else, I said, ‘Who’s paying for this?’ I mean, who pays, in order to practice. What are the kinds of security. So one of the things that I suggested and I wanna do is we’re going to stop the war games, unless for some reason, we’re unable to go further.
So he wins no matter how it turns out. If it works, he looks like a genius, if it doesn't he was also right because it goes back to the way its been for 50 years and the blame falls on Kim not Trump (hey at least we tried). Once you listen to the book, it's amazing to see Trump in action and recognize his ability. It was a very insightful book, I highly recommend it.

Adams is not a Trump supporter (I'm not sure your normal readers know this or not, I didn't). Adams' core beliefs and mine are on very far apart.

Please keep up the great work, I check-in multiples times during the day.

Joe

Thank you for writing Joe. I heartily recommend this book to all. On one final note, those folks that insist on saying President Trump is not intelligent, and has somehow lucked into his business empire and life success...keep underestimating him. He's so far ahead, I'm not sure his detractors even know what game they're playing.

I just hope he doesn't remind us what a success Obamacare was, or the Senate is toast.

Here's a strange take on the fact Republicans tend to not do as well in special elections as President Trump...perhaps, the people running aren't as popular as President Trump. But Al, Trump's popularity numbers aren't that high.

That said, he was going to lose WI by 9 points if you believe the Marquette Law poll that was released just a few days before the election.

Unless you're using Rasmussen, you might as well be asking CNN. Those other firms would have Jesus Christ polling at 35% if he was a Republican.

After an offseason of hearing Matt Kemp was worthless, I see he's the leading NL all star vote getter thus far.

Kemp is certainly overpaid, and is a below average defender in either LF or RF. That said, the masses certainly do not understand how much players are worth. As a FA, Kemp would have his choice of offers, probably even some of the 2 or 3 year variety. That's very similar to Ryan Braun...who would have a multitude of interest if he were a FA, but almost none on the contract he is currently on (and, with his ability to veto a trade, would probably only approve a trade to the Dodgers, as of today at least).
