(12/31/2018 09:46:00 PM) - Al

I blame the National Knife Association and the 2nd Amendment of the British Constitution...which is well over 200 years old.

12/31/2018 09:46:00 PM

(12/31/2018 04:30:00 PM) - Al

Heh.

The truth is stranger than fiction.

12/31/2018 04:30:00 PM

(12/31/2018 03:30:00 PM) - Al

Unpossible!

12/31/2018 03:30:00 PM

(12/31/2018 02:00:00 PM) - Al

These rubes don't realize that taking more of their money and giving it to others is not a great thing!

12/31/2018 02:00:00 PM

(12/31/2018 01:01:00 PM) - Al

Limited updates today. No one is reading anyway, I just looked at the stats.

Happy New Year my friends.

(12/30/2018 07:59:00 PM) - Al

The jokes just write themselves.

12/30/2018 07:59:00 PM

(12/30/2018 04:00:00 PM) - Al

Math is their worst enemy.

12/30/2018 04:00:00 PM

(12/30/2018 03:00:00 PM) - Al

This has been discussed for ages, but there is no doubt JFK's platform is far more reminiscent of today's GOP than the Dems.

12/30/2018 03:00:00 PM

(12/30/2018 01:00:00 PM) - Al

Heh.

Think what a disaster Canada's health care would be without the USA picking up the slack.

12/30/2018 01:00:00 PM

(12/30/2018 12:00:00 PM) - Al

They choose their heroes badly.

12/30/2018 12:00:00 PM

(12/30/2018 10:00:00 AM) - Al

I've never seen the left pretending to be so upset over...peace.

I wish they would have been so fictionally unhappy about the previous administration sending real pallets of money to a real terrorist harboring nation.

Because he knew better, you know.

12/30/2018 10:00:00 AM

(12/30/2018 08:30:00 AM) - Al

18 minutes of 2018 Brewers' calls.

12/30/2018 08:30:00 AM

(12/30/2018 05:30:00 AM) - Al

Also in the news, water is wet.

12/30/2018 05:30:00 AM

(12/30/2018 02:00:00 AM) - Al

51st again.

(12/29/2018 07:30:00 PM) - Al

If she didn't exist, we'd have to invent her.

Reminds me of the endangered species dinner in Ace Ventura.

12/29/2018 07:30:00 PM

(12/29/2018 05:30:00 PM) - Al

I'm not saying AP is a bunch of scumbags.

I would not want to offend bags of scum in that manner.

The hell with them. A painful, torturous death is too good for them. If I worked for them, I would resign and find a job with an actual news organization.

12/29/2018 05:30:00 PM

(12/29/2018 03:30:00 PM) - Al

Ew. White people...they're the worst.

You can imagine my disdain when I realized that not only was I Caucasian, but I married a fair skinned gal as well.

Oof.

In my defense, Lisa Turtle was not available...

12/29/2018 03:30:00 PM

(12/29/2018 02:00:00 PM) - Al

I seem to recall plagues and flu years that wiped out half the population.

But, of course, when one must feel self important, everything important is happening today.

12/29/2018 02:00:00 PM

(12/29/2018 01:30:00 PM) - Al

The unpatriotic always hope for their country to fail.

Why? Because they're unpatriotic.

12/29/2018 01:30:00 PM

(12/29/2018 01:00:00 PM) - Al

When they have to lie about where they are from, it's usually a sign they will lie about anything.

12/29/2018 01:00:00 PM

(12/29/2018 12:00:00 PM) - Al

The shock that a tycoon understands business better than bureaucrats is about as funny as it gets.

12/29/2018 12:00:00 PM

(12/29/2018 11:00:00 AM) - Al

We can hope.

12/29/2018 11:00:00 AM

(12/29/2018 10:00:00 AM) - Al

The self importance is off the charts.

12/29/2018 10:00:00 AM

(12/29/2018 05:30:00 AM) - Al

John Banner lives on in the old media.

12/29/2018 05:30:00 AM

(12/29/2018 02:00:00 AM) - Al

Notice how all these elites bragging about Venezuela have one thing in common...they do not and would never live in Venezuela.

(12/28/2018 11:30:00 PM) - Al

Unpossible!

I, for one, am shocked.

12/28/2018 11:30:00 PM

(12/28/2018 07:40:00 PM) - Al

Brewers still talking to Yankees about Sonny Gray.

12/28/2018 07:40:00 PM

(12/28/2018 07:30:00 PM) - Al

...because they do not like what it says.

12/28/2018 07:30:00 PM

(12/28/2018 03:30:00 PM) - Al

My Girlfriend is always eating chocolate, and she likes to joke she’s got a chocolate addiction. "Get me away from those Hersheys bars. I’m addicted to them." So I drove her downtown and I pointed out a crack addict. I said, "Do you see that, honey? Why can’t you be that skinny?"--Anthony Jeselnik

Be offended all you like. He is hilarious.

12/28/2018 03:30:00 PM

(12/28/2018 02:30:00 PM) - Al

Heh.

You can hear the gasps in the room when they announce they're closing immediately already.

The irony? They'll never see it coming. Grand opening...grand closing.

12/28/2018 02:30:00 PM

(12/28/2018 01:30:00 PM) - Al

A quick recap of Obamacare.

Higher premiums, fewer benefits...and people dying because of pencil pushers with platinum benefit packages funded by taxpayers making medical decisions.

If only someone could have foreseen this dilemma.

12/28/2018 01:30:00 PM

(12/28/2018 12:30:00 PM) - Al

The irony?

They're too dense to understand they are insisting the military should stay in Syria infinitely...after Obama drew a red line there and after Syria crossed it; he chickened out sending troops there anyway.

Because he was so much smarter than the rest of us.

12/28/2018 12:30:00 PM

(12/28/2018 11:30:00 AM) - Al

The facts are the left's worst nightmare.

They always are.

12/28/2018 11:30:00 AM

(12/28/2018 11:00:00 AM) - Al

Saying the Brewers' current rotation consists of 3 #5 SP's and 2 rookies is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever seen written at MLBTR.

That's embarrassing, very ignorant stuff.

12/28/2018 11:00:00 AM

(12/28/2018 10:00:00 AM) - Al

This is exactly what they want.

12/28/2018 10:00:00 AM

(12/28/2018 09:00:00 AM) - Al

receipts, funny receipts, funny photos, funny pics, funny pictures, funny vids

The odds of anyone over 25 admitting this is zero.

12/28/2018 09:00:00 AM

(12/28/2018 06:00:00 AM) - Al

Heh.

If only this was an actual law.

12/28/2018 06:00:00 AM

(12/28/2018 03:00:00 AM) - Al

More tornadoes! More hurricanes! More death!

What?

Never mind.

If I didn't know better, I'd think this was all an incredibly poorly planned out ploy to take more money from the successful...

12/28/2018 03:00:00 AM

(12/28/2018 01:00:00 AM) - Al

They are a parody of themselves.

They only want the riff raff to vote. Not to, you know, muddy up the villa.

12/28/2018 01:00:00 AM

Thursday, December 27, 2018

(12/27/2018 06:54:00 PM) - Al

I have been assured this never happens.

12/27/2018 06:54:00 PM

(12/27/2018 06:50:00 PM) - Al

Their inability to read the public is legendary.

12/27/2018 06:50:00 PM

(12/27/2018 04:00:00 PM) - Al

I always giggle at how the old media insists Latinos will vote Dem because Dems support illegal immigration.

Nothing bothers legal immigrants more than those than jump the line. And the old media is clueless to it.

Because we're stupid rubes.

12/27/2018 04:00:00 PM

(12/27/2018 03:30:00 PM) - Al

This has been the case for a decade or more.

Public servants like to think the taxpayers owe them more pay and better benefits. In reality, they should try working for themselves if they want to make more money.

12/27/2018 03:30:00 PM

(12/27/2018 02:56:00 PM) - Al

Brewers will be on SUN night baseball this season.

12/27/2018 02:56:00 PM

(12/27/2018 02:00:00 PM) - Al

McDonald's has almost all store managers and execs that started as part time associates too.

Funny how those are 2 of the most respected companies in the USA, yet others are so hesitant to promote from within.

12/27/2018 02:00:00 PM

(12/27/2018 01:20:00 PM) - Al

Brewers talked to Sanchez. Doubt if they wanted to go more than a single season.

12/27/2018 01:20:00 PM

(12/27/2018 01:00:00 PM) - Al

Note that the original tweet was sent while the president was on the ground with the troops.

That's a sly way to spit in the face of our military, which, of course, was a common trait of the left in the past.

Because they know better.

12/27/2018 01:00:00 PM

(12/27/2018 12:30:00 PM) - Al

It's easy to change your mind when you don't really believe in anything.

12/27/2018 12:30:00 PM

(12/27/2018 12:20:00 PM) - Al

I've liked Harrison for years. He might well take a one year deal too, which is what the Crew is looking for.

12/27/2018 12:20:00 PM

(12/27/2018 12:15:00 PM) - Al

Heh.

A common trait among those that make excuses why they missed class is they did not really care to go to class anyway.

12/27/2018 12:15:00 PM

(12/27/2018 12:08:00 PM) - Al

Heh.

That's because they are not bothered by actual terror. In fact, if it's during a GOP administration, the deaths are well worth it.

12/27/2018 12:08:00 PM

(12/27/2018 10:00:00 AM) - Al

Remember those silent but respectful responses the military used to give Obama?

Not so much now.

It's a mystery that may never be solved.

The military is overwhelmingly Republican. That makes me feel very good about my beliefs.

12/27/2018 10:00:00 AM

(12/27/2018 06:30:00 AM) - Al

You mean hardened criminals are not deterred by a background check?

The hell you say.

12/27/2018 06:30:00 AM

(12/27/2018 01:00:00 AM) - Al

I wonder how in the world this fella is so blind to his whining and incorrect assessment of the situation.

Small dairies are simply not as efficient as larger ones. It's the same reason family groceries and one screen movie theaters are all but extinct. They cannot compete in a free market with larger, better versions of the same thing. 100 years ago this dude would be bemoaning the fact his buggy whip factory is failing, and insisting the government should set a higher price and an annual quota. You know...for the good of the people.

As long as there is demand for milk, cheese, butter, and other things that come from dairy, we will have farmers milking cows. The price will rise and fall with supply and demand, and the best will make money doing so. There will be a survival of the fittest type scenario, without a doubt. Many have already left the business...but the amount of cows has not gone down, or maybe just barely. Improved genetics means you do not need as many animals to produce the same amount of product.

The old media insists on reporting on the number of operations, but in doing so, embarrasses itself, as is often the case.

(12/26/2018 08:57:00 PM) - Al

They played themselves.

I love it when they prove themselves to be the idiots we all know they are.

12/26/2018 08:57:00 PM

(12/26/2018 07:54:00 PM) - Al

Very nice of the president and first lady to do this. Leaving on Xmas night was especially noteworthy.

And then the WSJ destroys the old media and their fake news

12/26/2018 07:54:00 PM

(12/26/2018 04:30:00 PM) - Al

It's almost as if they are finally figuring out there's an element of showmanship involved in politics.

12/26/2018 04:30:00 PM

(12/26/2018 03:30:00 PM) - Al

I guarantee you, we will soon see "confiscate wealth" as the way to pay for boondoggles such as this.

12/26/2018 03:30:00 PM

(12/26/2018 03:00:00 PM) - Al

The Rangers “are not done acquiring” catching help this offseason, MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan writes in his latest Rangers Inbox column, though he indicates that the team isn’t expected to be in the mix for J.T. Realmuto as the Marlins look to move him. Texas could add some more veteran depth to pair with defensive whiz Jeff Mathis, it seems, but a high-end acquisition doesn’t appear to be in the cards. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is the other option atop the Rangers’ catching depth chart at the moment, but he’s still developing and has more experience at both second base and third base than he does at catcher.

I have to wonder if the Rangers will pick up a backstop from the Brewers if the Crew improves the position in a trade or free agent signing. They have talked extensively about Mike Minor and possibly others.

12/26/2018 03:00:00 PM

(12/26/2018 02:30:00 PM) - Al

It's colder because it's hotter.

12/26/2018 02:30:00 PM

(12/26/2018 01:30:00 PM) - Al

Putting a label on everyone is exhausting.

This is what happens when you stop treating everyone the same like I do. Because, you know, I don't get it.

12/26/2018 01:30:00 PM

(12/26/2018 01:00:00 PM) - Al

Somewhere in a board room, the left is cursing loudly and brainstorming reasons why this happened.

Most common reason noted?

Well, it's because the public's holiday shopping wore out and they had to buy new ones. It's not because of a stronger economy, damn it!

Because they know better than us stupid rubes. Nothing hurts the left more than facts and math.

When people get to keep more of the money they earn, it seems they spend more.

Funny how that works. I never would have guessed it...

12/26/2018 01:00:00 PM

(12/26/2018 11:47:00 AM) - Al

It’s no secret Chicago wants to move Jabari Parker, who was an expensive free agent addition over the summer. Parker was pulled from the rotation shortly after Boylen took over and hasn’t played at all since December 13.--Hoops Rumors

Many Bucks' fans wanted to give Parker near max money.

Defense is half the game. And he sucks at it.

12/26/2018 11:47:00 AM

(12/26/2018 10:22:00 AM) - Al

Today marks the first day of the little known, week long festival I like to call, "What the hell day is it today anyway?"

Best known for thinking the majority of the time it's a Sunday...

12/26/2018 10:22:00 AM

(12/26/2018 09:30:00 AM) - Al

Attention whores don't have much consideration for others, to say the least.

My college years, to be honest, were not overly spent in the library. I did go to the 24 hour quiet study room on occasion, just to be able to plop down and not be tempted by distractions.

However, if on the occasion I would have been trying to get something done, and the choir would have shown up, with camera crews in hand to record it, I would have been a mighty unhappy camper.

12/26/2018 09:30:00 AM

(12/26/2018 07:00:00 AM) - Al

Heh.

That would be different. Because shut up.

Tuesday, December 25, 2018

(12/25/2018 01:00:00 PM) - Al

Next time.

That darn bad luck.

Funny how those that ignore basic economic rules have such a difficult time having economic success. And fail to admit how well following them have worked for the past 2 years.

Never underestimate the hatred those feel that openly root for a bad economy so fellow Americans can suffer.

Because they're better than us.

12/25/2018 01:00:00 PM

(12/25/2018 11:00:00 AM) - Al

Taping the Bucks game to watch later, as the Rambling family movie and Chinese lunch are at the same time.

12/25/2018 11:00:00 AM

(12/25/2018 11:00:00 AM) - Al

This is a perfect example of what Obama did for 8 years...all show, no results.

12/25/2018 11:00:00 AM

(12/25/2018 09:21:00 AM) - Al

Ted Nugent decks the halls.

(12/25/2018 09:00:00 AM) - Al

Merry Christmas from the Ramblings' team.

Me, myself, and I.

12/25/2018 09:00:00 AM

Amen.

12/25/2018 06:00:00 AM

(12/25/2018 03:00:00 AM) - Al

Irony.

That said, it will work perfectly next time. The rubes are just too stupid to understand that.

(12/24/2018 05:00:00 PM) - Al

How do they find these scoops?

12/24/2018 05:00:00 PM

(12/24/2018 03:30:00 PM) - Al

Heh.

They lie because the truth is too painful to admit.

12/24/2018 03:30:00 PM

(12/24/2018 03:00:00 PM) - Al

I'm so old, I remember when the left insisted this was racist.

It's easy to change your mind when you don't really believe in anything.

Don't like our core beliefs? Don't worry, they have others.

12/24/2018 03:00:00 PM

(12/24/2018 02:30:00 PM) - Al

We were laughing yesterday that our movie theater have movies starting at 7AM Xmas Day with the last showing of one movie starting at 11PM.

So, we thought maybe we better buy in advance, since Xmas is such a popular movie day. The 10AM show...3 tickets remaining...none together.

We don't talk during films anyway.

We laughed because they add a $1.70 convenience fee on if you buy in advance, but waive it if you are a "rewards club member"...which means you gave them your email and got a plastic card several years ago.

12/24/2018 02:30:00 PM

(12/24/2018 02:00:00 PM) - Al

The irony is, wildfires are a natural part of a forest's cycle. They clear out the undergrowth and most all the healthy mature trees survive.

The left doesn't always worry about stupid things. But they do so enough to make me ignore every one of their petty concerns.

12/24/2018 02:00:00 PM

(12/24/2018 01:28:00 PM) - Al

We can only dream.

A couple weeks ago, I paid the post office $25 to deliver an envelope overnight. They missed the guarantee by 25 hours. The postal workers were unapologetic, unconcerned, and rude.

Well, to be fair, that's only $1 an hour.

Last night, we ordered our friend in GA some groceries, since she had $4 to her name and little food in the apartment.

Publix delivered them, on time and as promised, between 10 and 11 this morning. Cost? $3.99.

One is run by the government.

The other one is efficient.

Early favorite for drama queen article of the year.

Less than 1% of gift card credits do not get spent or go to fees. This is like complaining your supermodel girlfriend is only a mediocre cook.

Ramblings will not be posting filler the next couple days.

If something happens, I'll post. If not, I won't.

FYI.

(12/24/2018 08:00:00 AM) - Al

Amen Rand Paul.

He's right you know. And, shockingly, the left is/was 100% wrong

12/24/2018 08:00:00 AM

(12/24/2018 07:30:00 AM) - Al

Pretty much no one working today except those in retail and a limited few in the service sector. Other than that, it's pretty much just the self employed (farmers, plumbers, HVAC) and police/fire/medical.

I remember the last few years I ran a store, I always gave all the full timers off (unless they said they wanted the hours) and had my assistant open the store, while I "closed" it with a skeletal staff (though we only stayed open until 5 or maybe 6).

After working 10+ hour shifts for a couple months, that little 5 hour shift seemed like a day off.

I must admit, the fact some think actors cannot play roles that involve...acting...is one of the stupidest things I have ever witnessed.

(12/23/2018 12:00:00 PM) - Al

The science is settled.

8 years of foreign policy that might as well have been determined by a Magic 8 Ball. Hoe bad was it? The embarrassing red line incident in Syria was probably not even in the top 10 debacles.

Since then? Success. Peace. Open relations with previously hostile regimes.

That's why they hate it. The results speak for themselves...and they are devastating.

$615...a month.

Universal/DreamWorks’ Welcome to Marwen at 1,911 theaters is on course to crash with $927K today and $3M over FSS. From a distance, this adaptation directed and co-written by Robert Zemeckis of the 2010 documentary Marwencol looked like Forrest Gump in its fantasy drama, an awards season destination. Both the doc and this film follow the true story of Mark Hogancamp (here played by Steve Carell) who was brutally attacked, and healed his PTSD through art therapy, constructing miniature WWII scenes of mostly female dolls. Hogancamp’s intent is that these figures would have his back should he ever be attacked again. Hogancamp wound up creating a successful art show out of this project.

However, the doc didn’t necessarily translate to screen via Zemeckis’ prism. A cut was shown to the awards media back in November, and they largely rejected it, which unfortunately spells death for a feature such as this.  Marwen cost around $40M and it will no doubt lose money. What’s bad here is that it’s a back-to-back disaster for Uni after Mortal Engines last weekend. However, if you’re going to release a bomb, do it here over Christmas, because it’s probably the only time of the year when a studio will an 8x multiple or more off a pic’s opening.--Deadline

This reminds me of how Hollywood insists they can make a movie about our troops in which everyone is a terrible person and then they return home injured or mentally ill and truly believe patriotic Americans will flock to it.

Each studio needs to introduce an executive with the title of "flyover country liaison."

I was just about to past last evening that I assumed most teams will begin their holiday hiatus when the Santana trade was announced.

So, I would not expect to see much, if any activity today thru Xmas Day, and probably not a whole lot until after 2019 begins. I recall Doug Melvin used to take a vacation that ended just after the new year, though he would check in each morning and occasionally, Gord Ash would make a minor trade or signing anyway.

(12/21/2018 09:58:00 PM) - Al

Just thought I would mention I am seeing several folks saying Gamel is a poor defender. Well, he's not slow and he has an arm good enough for RF, so I don't think he's bad. His UZR is average, but his DRS is poor...of course, Yelich's metrics were below average as well.

One thing about OF defense, and it seems especially corner guys, is the ballpark plays havoc with those numbers. I can't say I have a grasp on why, but often, it just doesn't pass the eye test. That's why teams employ scouts and grade their own players.

12/21/2018 09:58:00 PM

(12/21/2018 08:13:00 PM) - Al

Dodgers acquire Homer Bailey to balance out salary in trade, will release him and eat his salary.

Some crappy team will pick him up and hope he rebounds enough to get something for him at the deadline.

(12/21/2018 07:39:00 PM) - Al

I seem to recall DJ Wilson being called a bust by many...even though he had never really played minutes until the past week. Of late, he often appears to be the best player on the court, if Giannis is not in.

It's amazing how quickly people give up on young players that are still developing.

12/21/2018 07:39:00 PM

(12/21/2018 06:18:00 PM) - Al

Santana headed to the Pacific Northwest.

Ben Gamel and a young pitcher coming back. I assume Gamel will be penciled in as the 4th OF, and I have mentioned him as a possible target for several years.

Gamel has at least one option left too, meaning he can go down if the OF's are healthy and they need an extra arm. Santana (and Broxton, for that matter) can not. Given Gamel's baserunning and defense prowess, that likely makes up for the lesser power. Gamel is also pre arby, so he will be significantly less spendy.

And yes, Ben is Mat's younger brother.

Because of the holidays and the fact physicals have to be done before this trade is completed, this deal may well not be official until after Xmas, or even sometime in 2019.

EDIT: Heh, about 5 minutes later, trade is official. No physicals apparently, just a medical review.

EDIT 2: JS has quotes from Stearns

I still think LaMahieu makes the most sense. He's a plus defender and baserunner coming off a down season. It makes sense for him to sign a 1 year contract and reestablish value. And to prove he can hit outside of Colorado, though most major league teams understand the thin air effect far better than casuals, who look at his road numbers and think he'll suck.

It's tough to get used to hitting breaking balls than actually break after a homestand at Coors. That adjustment is mental and physical.

My 2nd choice would be Derek Dietrich. He's a lefty bat that could platoon with Perez for the most part.

Crew signs Spangenberg.

754 OPS versus RHP. If the season started today...

1. It would be really cold in many ballparks.

2. 2B would probably be a Spangenburg/Perez platoon.

I would guess this is a major league contract, based on the wording, but am not sure.

The fear among the left that wars Obama insisted on pretending to care about for 8 years with restrictions that left our military with no chance of winning are ending is hilarious.

The current administration gave generals permission to kill bad guys at will. Astoundingly, this has worked so well both Syria and Afghanistan are in far better shape. Fittingly, troops are coming home.

It would have worked a decade ago too. Obama was too concerned about being politically correct than giving a damn about the lives of our soldiers and protecting the USA. He never understood if you tell folks not to go into churches and temples, evil bastards will hide out in churches and temples.

His ignorance was off the charts on most everything. It was almost as if he had never been in charge of anything his entire life.

If I remember right, this was "the end of the world as we know it."

Turns out, I feel fine.

If I didn't know better, I'd think the left was creating fictional problems that are actually just minor policy disagreements. Of course, if you had to admit all your economic platform was just voodoo designed to bring successful people down and the opponent's ideas had created more wealth in 2 years than the previous administration's did in 8, you might stretch the truth often as well.

Robert Murray of The Athletic writes that the Brewers sent three representatives to watch Troy Tulowitzki’s audition for MLB clubs yesterday (subscription required). Murray spoke to multiple scouts in attendance who had positive things to say about how Tulo looked on that given day, though obviously the primary question isn’t whether the 34-year-old is healthy right now, but whether he’ll be able to hold up over the course of a full season. The Brewers could utilize Tulowitzki at either third base or second base, with Travis Shaw manning the other spot. Given Shaw’s experience (and proficiency) at the hot corner, second base would be Tulowitzki’s likeliest position in Milwaukee. There were at least 11 other clubs on hand at yesterday’s showcase, however, so Milwaukee is but one of many possible landing spots for the former Rockies star. Any team that signs Tulowitzki would only owe him the league minimum of $555K in 2019.---MLBTR

Troy would be a very good addition for anyone, as he really only takes up a 40 man spot. If injured, he's only making the minimum.

This is a very good case of the player picking the opportunity he wants, be it playing time, geography, or contention.

A while back, I started my semi once in a while Ramblings' donation drive. As I have mentioned in the past, Ramblings will always be free, because, to be honest, most days, that's exactly what it is worth. However, I know some of you are big fans. You email to tell me of something I missed, no matter how minute the importance. So, if you wish to make a contribution, you can do so in one of these ways:

1. Hit the PayPal button in the sidebar on the right.

2. Send me an email or Twitter DM (addresses also in the sidebar), and I will give you my address where you can send a check, money order, or a pile of stock certificates or gold bars.

If you do not wish to donate, no problem, just continue to check out the site and be mildly annoyed by the nonintrusive requests. Hurry, I've grown weary of updating this.

Again, thank you to those who have contributed and to all Ramblings' readers.

Heh.

Life is tough for the left.

Every year, Wal Mart sells out of meatballs at Xmas time, I assume because so many parties and families make them for appetizers. One year, they still had turkey meatballs in stock, and while the Rambling son and I would happily enjoy them, the Rambling wife despises turkey in all forms, except freshly roasted.

As I double checked to make sure no random bags of beef meatballs had fallen to another spot, a lady came along and grabbed 2 bags and tossed them in her cart. A child told her they were turkey, and she disgustedly put them back while saying, "Turkey meatballs? They should call them turkeyballs." She and all the kids burst out laughing and were still laughing when they left the aisle.

If I had an audience like that, Seinfeld would quote me.

Scroll to bottom for updates.

BUMPED: So allow me to get up on my soapbox a few minutes. Grab a beverage, sit back, and enjoy the pain of me telling you we have the most incompetent public sector in the history of the planet.

Yesterday, I drove from the Wausau area to Juneau, WI, to Neillsville, WI to Wausau. I drove for about 9 hours. When I returned, I put the things I had picked up in a NEXT DAY GUARANTEE envelope and paid $25 to the United States Postal Service for them to deliver it today by 3PM. The gent gladly took my money and proudly informed me it would be delivered by 3PM today.

Note that at no time did anyone refer to this as a maybe, possibly, if everything goes well next day guarantee. So, at 4PM today, imagine my surprise when the tracking number showed that the envelope had left Wausau at 9:41PM last night...with no further updates. Puzzled, I called the 800 number, and after working with a computer designed by untrained seals, the recording informed me the estimated wait time would be "over an hour."

I hung up the phone and drove down to my local post office, the exact same place that smiled and guaranteed next day delivery by 3PM. The exact same person was behind the counter. He typed in the tracking number and proudly informed me that the last update was that it left Wausau at 9:41PM last night. I told him I had learned that before I had left my residence, but that my question was, "Why was it not delivered by 3PM? And, for that matter, where is it right now?"

He went back, and I was hoping he was going to use a computer with actual answers. He returned in a few minutes, and told me this other gentleman would assist me.

I went back into the postmaster's office (Though I have no idea who it was, they never introduced themselves. That would be customer service friendly.) and the gentleman was, wait for it, putting the tracking number into the computer. He informed me that the package in question had left Wausau at 9:41PM last night. And that it had not been updated since. I told him I was well aware of that nugget of information, but I wanted to know why it had not been delivered by 3PM today. I asked him why it said NEXT DAY GUARANTEE if there was, in fact, no guarantee it would reach it's destination the next day.

He chuckled.

Yes, I said he chuckled.

He then told me he had no idea, but thought that "the bad weather in the southeast may have grounded some planes." He said he would look at the computer tomorrow and give me a call if I wished.

I told him I was well aware of how to use a computer and could do that myself. He asked me if I wanted to give him my phone number. I asked him why no one had any idea where my package was. I did not receive even an attempt at an answer. I asked why no one had updated the system to explain where my package was. I asked why no one had any idea where my package was (yes, I think I said that twice). I asked why no one seemed to care that no one had updated the system on this package since 9:41PM last night.

I decided my time would be better spent elsewhere.

So, to recap:

1. The package did not arrive by 3PM today.

2. There's a very good chance it left Wausau at 9:41PM last night.

3. There may have been some weather in the southeast USA in the past 24 hours.

4. The NEXT DAY GUARANTEE is as real as unicorns, Bigfoot, and people I do not hate.

I will continue to update this until I receive my money back, an apology for incompetence, an apology for having a fictional NEXT DAY GUARANTEE. I will also be filing a claim to receive my $100 in insurance, because those papers being late may well delay an important moment in a friend's life.

But, you know, it did leave Wausau at 9:41PM last night. At least, we think it did.

The pain. I cannot stand the pain.

UPDATE: More thoughts as my package was still not delivered.

A. I did not give them 10k things and only 9999 were delivered. Not 5k. Not even 100. I gave them a single package. They did not deliver it.

For those keeping track, that's no packages delivered as promised. Zero. One package not delivered. One.

B. At no time did anyone offer an apology. At no time did anyone even pretend they cared.

C. I can only imagine that, if indeed there was "weather" in the SE USA, a rather large geographic area mind you, not every single airport was closed. If the package was scheduled to be flown to Jacksonville, or Tallahassee, or any other town in generic northern FL/southern GA, it seems to me a rather simple solution would be to, wait for it, reroute it to another airport, allow me to throw Atlanta out there as a possibility. Of course, this would mean giving a damn.

D. I could have driven the package there. It would have taken 17 hours, so if I'd have left at 4, I would have got there about 10AM Eastern time. Maybe 10:30, I would have had to pee and fill up with gas. Of course, I would have known where the package was at all times. I would have got the package there before 3PM.

That's something I cannot say about others.

UPDATE, STILL MAD: My friend is staying at a hotel tonight. No one will be at home where the package will be delivered tomorrow. If it does get delivered (a day late) it will be sitting outside, unprotected and completely stealable. This is because someone was there yesterday, to wait patiently for an important package. A package that left Wausau at 9:41PM last night, they proudly tell me.

Guess what? The post office does not care. But they have one helluva pension package. Funny how that works.

QUICK UPDATE: Dark thirty FRI morning.

Delivery on my package now scheduled ...by 3pm. Earlier today.

Seriously.

I'm not saying they are worthless and incompetent. They could be 100 times better and not reach those lofty heights.

But the way, it left Wausau at 9:41pm last night.

UPDATE FRI 8AM: Last update...it left Wausau at 9:41PM WED night. I am at the point in which I unlocked all the doors to the house in hopes someone breaks in so I can beat the living hell out of them.

UPDATE FRI 11AM: Went to post office again to ask for help in locating where package is. They offered no help, said they could do nothing, and told me to leave.

Customer service? None. They don't even pretend.

UPDATE 1PM: Package has arrived in city of delivery. Not sure if it will be delivered today or not. I'd call, but, you know...

SATURDAY UPDATE: Package was delivered about 4PM yesterday, about 25 hours past the guarantee. Didn't even make it by 3PM 2 days later. On the bright side, my friend in GA was able to utilize the fact her local DMV was open SAT until noon to walk out with what she needed at 11:45AM this morning. She was ecstatic, despite the one day delay.

I learned the post office has terrible customer service, though that's not really a surprise, given they are overpaid and underworked. A lack of pride in one's work is often directly related to not having any incentive to do a good job. When all you have to do is show up and receive a platinum pension and ridiculously high wage, the idea of being polite and giving a damn about your clientele seems like a waste of time.

I learned they do not take criticism well. Despite me being polite, non threatening, and genuinely puzzled; they told me to leave and walked away. They suck. No retailer I was ever employed by would have tolerated anything like that on their worst day. Bad service starts at the top, like a Xmas tree, and if you have the misfortune to visit the bottom rung, well, it will be almost unbelievably bad. It is.

I learned their technology is, at best, a couple decades behind Fed Ex and UPS. The only thing worse is their lack of pride and how quickly they blame their subcontractors. There's an old saying...a business that blames those who work for them will soon be out of business.

Of course, that would have happened 50 years ago if the post office was not a government entity. They lose $35M every day...whether they are open or not. And instead of even trying to fix it, they brag about the job they do and insist they are some sort of unmatched juggernaut.

They are proof of what happens when government takes over something private business could do oodles better. The downturn is swift and lengthy, and in some cases, never ending.

Think about that next time you think the government should be running the clinic that keeps you and your family in good health.

The White Sox have eschewed the "let's rebuild slowly with youth" model.

I've always liked Alonso more than most, but he is certainly not a bargain given his age and production. They could easily get 90% of his production from a minor league FA or by waiting out the market and signing a player coming off an injury or an off year.

There was love for Mike Moustakas after his short but fun stay in Milwaukee. He is currently working closely with Brewers Ryan Braun and Christian Yelich to raise funds for victims of the fires in Southern California. Decent chance Braun and or NL MVP Yelich bends the ear of owner Mark Attanasio, yet another SoCal resident.--Heyman

Moustakas has value because he's a plus defender, which inflates his value despite a weak OBP.

To compare, Daniel Murphy has value because he hits so well, it makes up for his weak defense.

Brewers to acquire Alex Claudio, LH reliever from the Rangers.

Had an off 2018, but very solid career and peripherals. Bad luck last season it would appear.

3 years of team control left. Under 500 OPSA versus LH bats in his career. Passable versus righties, but I suspect he'll be utilized as a loogy.

Claudio with a career 2.63 ERA outside of the offensive haven of Arlington.

Adding him for a future asset (and not to be overlooked, saving a draft bonus of about $2M, that might be added to the current payroll).

Stearns said yesterday that a Rule 5 pick would have to ready to contribute next season. Now, could that mean contribute as a mop up type reliever? Possibly.

My guess is they have a half dozen names and will take one if they fall. Also, if a team above them does not have a player to take, many are open to taking a player and trading him immediately. The Crew did that for the Cubs 2 years ago.

No idea what the weather is going to do tomorrow, but 100% certain what killed a few animals 250M years ago.

By the way, we've had dozens of ice ages, all before the Industrial Revolution. It is actually miraculous how stupid their drivel sounds.

By the way, amazingly, we overcame this, ahem, "disaster," and now have cars that drive themselves. Meanwhile, Venezuela, which was the richest country in the world a decade ago, has pissed away a bijillion dollars because they embraced the exact same socialism the NY Times does.

Why? Because standing in line for toilet paper keeps the peasants from, you know, developing technology and coming up with ideas to join the elite class. People that are afraid of competition love socialism. People that could not care less if others work harder, smarter, or get luckier than they do...do not.

Heh.

Only liberal hacks are saying anything. No one cares about figurehead positions. The only downside is dealing with the old media, who between them are all buffoons that lie.

It's just to avoid them having to discuss the booming Reaganesque economy. Obama would have accomplished this to, except he was an economic know nothing.

I'm a big Yandy Diaz fan, as he's an OBP machine. The Tribe acts like they're unsure if not making outs helps the team score runs.

Counsell says the Crew would like to pick up an infielder, which to me, may mean a 2B or a 3B.

Jon Heyman says they would like to clear up 2B and add a SP.

Not very newsy on MLBN.

When free speech is limited, free speech no longer exists.

That's why Amy Schumer can call gays whatever offensive word she wants and I can't.

The difference, of course, being that I do not call them an offensive word, but Schumer, but the left would insist I'm a far worse human being, because I believe in capitalism, free markets, and not spending tax money on stupid crap.

Because shut up.

Think how tough it would be to be Cortez's publicist, and the fear she lives under pressure knowing the mockery that would avalanche onto her if she misses correcting a single press release that talks about "the Jooz."

(12/10/2018 01:00:00 PM) - Al

Al,

A lot of people think I'm nuts when I say this, but one of the favorites part of my week is sitting down at my Dilbert cubicle at 6:07 AM on Monday morning. The phones have not started ringing or flashing. The only ones around are folks like me that want to enjoy their 4:30 until bedtime enough to suffer the pain of a 4 darkthirty alarm clock ringing. With my first quart of coffee in hand, I peruse my favorite bookmarks, mostly unseen since Thursday afternoon. I enjoy the sarcasm, the catchphrases repeated so often I often predict them (that's a damn shame, consistency is not their strength), and how it all just kind of spills out, with little direction. I chuckle softly, with an occasional LOL, though I may try to cover those up with a throat clearing. The current events and links are usually old news to me, but I still skim them, so I can then understand what you said about them.

Keep Rambling. I appreciate it. I hit the tip jar and hope others will as well. I would miss it if it was gone.

TG

My work here is done. Thank you TG, I should be tipping you.

Ramblings will return after a long weeping break.

(12/10/2018 09:30:00 AM) - Al

I have said this before, but when no one wants you, you really do not "retire."

If that was the case, I "retired" about 31 years ago, when I went undrafted in the June draft and I did not accept any of the nonexistent free agent offers before me.

12/10/2018 09:30:00 AM

(12/10/2018 09:03:00 AM) - Al

Funny, I never once thought of Harold Baines as a Hall of Famer.

I once suggested Ryan Braun would probably choose to finish his career in Milwaukee, unless he thought he could DH a couple seasons and make the HOF. I was chided by many who said Braun had no chance.

If Baines is a Hall of Famer, the only thing keeping Braun out is not playing long enough.

Beautiful speech and national anthem before the Army/Navy game SAT.

My only regret is they forgot to mention our true heroes...the old media.

And just for good measure, allow me to add, Colin Kaepernick is a slimeball SOB. The hell with him.

(12/10/2018 03:00:00 AM) - Al

Most just simply cannot afford it. It was set up to punish successful people who are either independent contractors or small business owners.

The old media is envious of them, so they will not point out the fact that someone making $60-70K a year has a policy that they pay $2500 a month for that requires them to pay the first $10k anyway, in effect paying $40k a year that only covers them on health care dollars from $10001 and up.

If the choice is go broke paying for something that's nearly worthless or pay a tiny fine for not going broke; it really isn't much of a decision to make.

12/10/2018 03:00:00 AM

(12/10/2018 01:00:00 AM) - Al

The thing is, the fact Hader, Donte, and others were simply quoting rap songs is rarely reported. The irony is, the rap songs that harbor said offensive lyrics are never mentioned or criticized because, you see, that would be racist.

If one did not know better, one might think the old media is only interested in covering that up.

A man was driving around a full parking lot for a long time. Could not find an open spot. Frustrated, he said out loud, "God, if you give me an open parking spot, I'll start going to church every Sunday." A split second later, a car backed up right in front of him, and he pulled into the open spot. Immediately, he said, "Never mind God, I found one."--Joel Osteen

Heh.

Yes, the main thing a AG should do is make himself impotent on important decisions. Sessions pretty much said since I can locate Russia on a map, I better recuse myself. He's a perfect example of the old Republican "mother may I" attitude that resulted in losing to a guy who couldn't lead a hooker into bed (hat tip Bob Knight on Steve Alford) because everyone was afraid if they pointed out he was a stoned loser in college, and a pencil pusher who hung out with terrorists in adulthood; they'd be called a racist.

(12/07/2018 05:53:00 PM) - Al

Bucks make huge trade, acquire George Hill and Sam Dekker from Cavs for Delly, Henson, and a future 1st and 2nd round pick.

The link treats Dekker like a throw in to even out salaries, but anyone that saw him play for the Badgers knows he has the potential to be an impact guy. I'm the first to admit he may never reach that level. I certainly like the idea of getting potential like that in a throw in.

Hill is a very solid combo guard who shoots 3's almost incredibly well, 38% for his career and 41% since 2015. His defensive metrics have slipped, but that is often related to teammates and effort. He only has a guaranteed salary for this current season, so this could probably be considered a "go for it" type move, as he is unlikely to be retained for next season at his Monopoly money like $18M number.

I've always been a Delly fan, as it's difficult not to watch him and enjoy his defense and hustle, but am the first to admit he's been an overpaid role player. Henson continues to work himself into a passable NBA center, even adding a 3 this year, but will miss most of the season and possibly all of it. The Bucks have been going small a lot since Henson's injury, and some before that, so that will probably become more common...a lineup of Bledsoe/Hill/Brogdon/Middleton/Giannis might become common if they are able to rebound and defend.

As with all NBA trades, the salary cap plays a large part. This clears tons of money off next season's cap, and with Middleton having to be resigned or lost, I assume clears some room for him to be a very wealthy man, perhaps within a few million each year of the max.

EDIT: Bucks then trade Dekker for Wizards' big man Jason Smith, who looks like a tough, gritty stretch 4/5 who shoots 3's and bangs inside the paint. That does provide more "balance," especially if Lopez goes down to injury.

(12/07/2018 04:00:00 PM) - Al

Why so violent?

Don't forget, Sanders' supporters were caught starting fights at Trump rallies to try and make negative headlines. They got caught, and the old media pretended it never happened.

That's because the old media does not root for a side.

Heartbreaking and gutwrenching...

Drama much? A couple former utility players were killed in a car crash. Compared to a child's death from cancer or a baby dying because their drug addicted parents were too busy getting high to feed him, it's hardly a tragedy; just a sad thing that happens hundreds of times a day in the USA and all over the world.

It's the cost of modern technology. The human body was not designed to go from moving at a high rate of speed to not moving in an instant. I feel for their families and friends.

I never saw a single episode of Kiana in which she wore more than 15% of the clothing she has on here.

Quick note to the Rambling brother, just got 3 texts from you. Dated up to a couple weeks ago. Will not reply now in case you are sleeping. FYI.

I am actually a native of East Virginia.

I hope the Brewers are talking to him too, though I doubt he'd accept a 4th OF job even if paid more.

Light reading sent in by James.

I'm so old, I remember when it was sexist to say this.

You know...a few weeks ago.

If you don't like their principles, don't worry, they have others.

Notice, despite the fact the old media insisted the president was a racist and terrible person for telling it like it was, in less than 60 days, the old media has decided he was right all along.

Consistency is not their strength.

Heh.

I see what he did there.

I've been known to get dog gone angry about this fictional outrage as well. They don't understand that when people hear crap like this, they automatically ignore everything PETA says.

Schoop gets $7.5M from the Twins. With the plethora of 2B out there, that figure seems high to me. I would have guessed $4-5M.

Rather jumps on the "a dead Republican ain't as bad a living one" bandwagon.

The irony here is this clown reported fake news for decades and no one blinked an eye, even after he was caught forging documents against W.

Hopefully, no clowns were offended by the previous comment.

Because lying and being mean is not funny.

The Babylon Bee is an equal opportunity offender, and is hilarious. The Onion used to be, and is now not smart or funny, because they only skew one side. Ditto for SNL.

Far too attention whoreish and "look at me" for my tastes.

That said, the little witch deserves what she got.

By the way, we've had 10 degree weather here several times this year and I wear shorts outside. When you're a northerner, it ain't cold until it gets below zero.

2 years from now, the revisionist history will read, "most observers realized right away that a $68M commitment to a pitcher with a history of injuries and only a single really good season was shortsighted."

Trevor Anderson out for the season with a knee injury.

Not a devastating loss for the Badgers, but it could be if Pritzl, Trice, or Davison go down later. Anderson has already redshirted a season when he transferred from UWGB, but sometimes, the NCAA does give athletes a 6th season of eligibility, though he may have played too many games for that to be a realistic hope. Best of luck to him as he recovers and rehabs.

Every time I write about my friend who is in a GA jail, I get a few emails that tell very heartfelt stories about a relative or themselves who spent time behind bars. Several have said it is fine to print them, but I choose not to...they seem a bit too personal for public viewing. It is a very emotional subject for many.

I will not delve into details, but she did get the penalty she was hoping for, and seems thrilled about it. She insists this is a new beginning and she will be a new person when her penalty is complete.

Thank you to those who have messaged and emailed. I have learned not to expect too much, but am hopeful, of course.

These are the good old days. Some folks are just too busy wishing the streets were paved with gold to enjoy the good times.

Whatever strikes me as interesting, and serious Milwaukee Brewers thoughts. If you are a believer in respecting OBP, throwing strikes, and keeping the ball in the park, you may have found the place you've been searching for. I believe in low taxes, small government, and am not afraid to be labeled patriotic. The Ramblings' manifesto can be found here.

I'm happy to pay taxes to help the helpless. I don't like paying taxes to help the clueless. Look at the Occupy movement...I'm forced to pay taxes to help those whose plight I delight in.--Dennis Miller

If you choose the path of terror, your life will be empty, and your life will be brief.--President Trump

Never have lives less lived been more chronicled.--Dennis Miller

I’m going to plead with you, do not cross us. Because if you do, the survivors will write about what we do here for 10,000 years.--Mad Dog Mattis

I have never understood why it is "greed" to want to keep the money you have earned but not greed to want to take somebody else's money.--Thomas Sowell

Ramblings makes me want to poke my eyes out with a sharp stick.--Marxist sympathizer (one of Ramblings' proudest moments)
